Samsung Galaxy M Series To Receive Android 9 Pie Based OneUI Update Next Month

Samsung introduced a new lineup of online exclusive smartphones called the Galaxy M back in the month of January, replacing the On series. The devices launched in the beginning included the Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 which were soon followed by the launch of the Galaxy M30 in the month of February. The series represented a shift in strategy for the company; and was announced in a bid to compete with the ever-increasing presence and popularity of Chinese smartphone OEMs such as Xiaomi, Honor and Realme. However, all the devices in the Galaxy M lineup run on the slightly dated Android 8 Oreo and the company’s ExperienceUI on top. Now, Samsung has announced all the handsets in the series will receive the OneUI update running on the latest Android 9 Pie soon.

Samsung first introduced its latest OneUI software in the month of November last year. It introduces a complete design overhaul for the User Interface (UI) the company will provide with the Android 9 Pie update on its smartphones. Key features of the OneUI include improved one hand navigation by placing major information in the bottom half of the display. The software also introduces Dark Mode, a feature that has been requested by users for a while now. When activated, it turns certain areas of the UI black in colour, which is easier on the eyes at night; and also gives an aesthetically different look to the software. Other features include bigger, and more streamlined icon designs and a cut down on the bloatware shipped with the smartphone.

  • Redmi Note 7 Pro Vs Realme 3 Pro Vs Galaxy M30 : Specs Comparison

Redmi Note 7 Pro Vs Realme 3 Pro Vs Galaxy M30 : Specs Comparison

With the launch of the Realme 3 Pro, the battle of mid-range smartphones has gotten even intense. With devices like the Note 7 Pro and the Galaxy M30 falling in the same price bracket, it can be perplexing as to which of the three is a better option. In this article, we compare the specifications of all three smartphones so you can decide which device best suits your needs.

    Design & Build Quality

All three smartphones have a solid build with a modern design. The Galaxy Note 7 Pro accrediting to its front and rear glass build looks most stylish out of the bunch. On the other hand, both the Realme 3 Pro and Galaxy M30 have a front glass with polycarbonate rear panel. Both the latter devices have an appreciable design on the back but are not as attractive as the Note 7 Pro.

    Display

The Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme 3 Pro have identical LCD displays that measure 6.3 inch and have a resolution of 2340 x 1080 px. In comparison, the Galaxy M30 sports a Super AMOLED display that measures 6.4 inch. Not only is the display on the M30 bigger than its competitors but the LCD panel on its contenders cannot match the prowess of a Super AMOLED panel. Noteworthy, the smartphones from Redmi and Realme have Corning Gorilla 5 on the front which safeguards them against scratches. While the Galaxy M30 lags any form of scratch resistant technology.

    Performance

This is one area where Samsung’s offering falls behind its rivals. The Exynos 7904 SoC present on the device is not powerful enough to match the processing power of the Snapdragon 710 on the Realme 3 Pro or the Snapdragon 675 on the Redmi Note 7 Pro. The latter pulls ahead of the former in regards to benchmark performance, but the GPU on the newly launched Realme 3 Pro is superior than the one on the Note 7 Pro.

All three smartphones from this banter have worthy camera hardware which is further enhanced with the help of software processing. The Note 7 Pro has a combination of a 48 MP main sensor and a 5 MP depth sensor, the Galaxy M30 has triple cameras, out of which the 13 MP is PDAF sensor, a 5 MP ultra wide sensor and a 5 MP depth sensor. Noteworthy the latest entrant, the Realme 3 Pro has 16 MP sensor and a 5 MP depth sensor. According to Realme, the latter can capture 64 MP resolution images via the 16 MP sensor with the help of software processing. All in all, it is hard to determine the camera performance of the handsets before actually looking at the samples. All three smartphones also have a single front-facing camera which is housed in waterdrop notch above the display. The Note 7 Pro has a 13 MP front camera, the Galaxy A30 has a 16 MP front-facing camera and the Realme 3 Pro has a 25 MP selfie camera.

    Additional Features

The Galaxy M30 has a mammoth 5,000 mAh battery which is considerably larger than the 4,000 mAh battery on the Redmi Note 7 Pro and 4,045 mAh battery on the Realme 3 Pro. Noteworthy, Realme’s offering supports VOOC 3.0 technology which can charge it with 20 W of power which is the highest amongst the three. All three smartphones also have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and run on the latest Android 9.0 which is skinned with custom UI of their respective brands. One simple yet important feature of the Note 7 Pro is the presence of an IR blaster which can be used to control appliances.

  • Samsung Galaxy M30 Vs Redmi Note 7 Pro Comparison

Samsung Galaxy M30 Vs Redmi Note 7 Pro Comparison

Samsung launched the Galaxy M30 on 27th of February in India which was soon followed by the Redmi’s Note 7 Pro. Both newly smartphones are packed with features and carry a lucrative price tag. In this article, we will put both smartphones against each other and discuss their features in detail.

    Display:

The Samsung Galaxy M30 sports a 6.4 inch Super AMOLED display while the Redmi Note 7 Pro sports a 6.3 inch LCD display which is safeguarded with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The Galaxy M30’s display has a pixel density of 394 ppi whereas the Note 7 Pro’s display has a higher pixel density of 409 ppi. Nevertheless, the variation between the ppi is virtually unnoticeable due to the meagre difference. However, Note 7 Pro’s LCD display is no match for M30’s Super AMOLED panel which has better colour reproduction.

    Chipset:

The Samsung Galaxy M30 is kitted with the Exynos 7904 SoC which is designed and manufactured by Samsung. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 7 Pro packs the Snapdragon 675 SoC. The chipsets on both smartphones are comprised of an Octa-Core CPU however their innards are entirely different. The Exynos 7904 has two Kryo 260 Gold cores and six Kryo 260 Silver cores while the Snapdragon 675 has four Kryo 460 cores and four Kryo 460 Silver cores. Even though performance on the Galaxy M30 is honourable, the Exynos 7904 is secondary to Redmi Note 7 Pro’s Snapdragon 675. Furthermore, the Snapdragon 675 is manufactured using 11 nm fabrication technology and the Exynos 7904 is manufactured using 14 nm fabrication technology.

    Camera:

Front facing selfie camera on both the Galaxy M30 and Redmi Note 7 Pro are housed in the notch above the display. The former has a 16 MP selfie camera while the latter has a 13 MP sensor. On paper, the Galaxy M30 is ahead of the Note 7 Pro in this department. Talking about the rear cameras, the M30 has triple sensors while the Note 7 Pro only has two. The Galaxy M30’s rear camera setup consists of 13 MP PDAF sensor, 5 MP ultrawide sensor and a 5 MP depth sensor. In contrast, Redmi Note 7 Pro’s rear camera setup consists of a 48 MP sensor and a 5 MP depth sensor. Though, the latter loses out in number it makes up for lost ground in terms of composition. The 48 MP rear camera on the Note 7 Pro is the Sony IMX586 sensor which is seen on high end devices like the Honor View 20.  However, it is noteworthy that by default the Note 7 Pro’s camera captures 12 MP resolution photos to conserve storage. Additionally, social media platforms including Snapchat and Facebook compress images to a great extent. Therefore, final results from both smartphones will be comparable if not equivalent. Though full resolution images captured on Note 7 Pro will undoubtedly outperform images captured on Galaxy M30 when viewed on a large screen high definition display.

    Battery and Charging Speed:

The Samsung Galaxy M30 is powered by a massive 5,000 mAh battery while the Note 7 Pro is powered by a 4,000 mAh powerhouse. Even though the Galaxy M30 packs a larger battery, the 11 nm based Snapdragon 675 chipset on the Note 7 Pro consumes less power and strives to make up for a smaller battery. Furthermore, the Note 7 Pro supports 18 W fast charging while the M30 supports 15 W fast charge. Pleasantly, Samsung ships its device with a 15 watt fast charger whereas the Redmi Note 7 Pro is shipped with a 10 watt traditional charger.

    Storage Options, Expandability and Price:

Both the Samsung Galaxy M30 and Redmi Note 7 Pro are available in two storage variants which include 4 GB RAM plus 64 GB ROM and 6 GB RAM plus 128 GB ROM. Both devices also support memory expansion via a microSD card. Distinctively, the Galaxy M30 supports microSD cards of upto 512 GB while the Redmi Note 7 Pro only supports card of upto 256 GB. Furthermore, the Galaxy M30 has a dedicated slot for the microSD card whereas the Note 7 Pro uses SIM slot 2 for memory expansion. The price for different variants of the handsets are as follows:

    • Samsung Galaxy M30 (4 GB + 64 GB) – Rs. 14,990
    • Samsung Galaxy M30 (6 GB + 128 GB) – Rs. 17,990
    • Redmi Note 7 Pro (4 GB + 64 GB) – Rs 13,999
    • Redmi Note 7 Pro (6 GB + 128 GB) – Rs 16,999
    Design and Software:

Both Samsung Galaxy M30 and Note 7 Pro have a plastic chassis with a waterdrop notch display. Though the bezels around the display are slightly thinner on the M30. The rear panel of the Galaxy M30 is made out of plastic while the Note 7 Pro has a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 back panel. Placement of ports and connectors on both devices is alike. The right side of both smartphones is occupied by volume rockers and power button while the bottom side of both handsets accommodates the USB Type-C port, 3.5 mm jack and loudspeaker grille. Both devices also have a rear mounted fingerprint sensor and also support facial recognition. In terms of software, the Galaxy M30 runs on the older Android 8.1 Oreo OS which is skinned with Samsung’s custom UI. Inversely, the Note 7 Pro runs on the latest Android 9.0 Pie which as well is skinned with the company’s custom MIUI.

  • The Samsung Galaxy M30, All You Need To Know

The Samsung Galaxy M30, All You Need To Know

Succeeding the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy M10 and M20, Samsung’s Senior Vice President, Asim Warsi made a statement about the Samsung Galaxy M30. The third smartphone in the much anticipated series by Samsung, the M30 will release soon, as Asim said. Needless to say, Samsung fans are flipping out about it. Let’s have a look at the probable specifications which the Samsung Galaxy M30 will have to offer, because Samsung will definitely step the features up a notch

    Design

The Samsung Galaxy M30 will be comparatively slimmer than the Galaxy M20. At 8.4 inches of thickness, it isn’t going to be the slimmest phone around. Hopefully, it will be still sleek enough to implant an impression. Sporting the same waterdrop notch as the other two models, the Galaxy M30 is expected to look like a premium smartphone.

    Display

The Samsung Galaxy M30 is rumoured to have a 6.38 inch IPS LCD screen, with a high screen-to-body ratio. The resolution of the screen may be 2280 x 1080 px, but we can say nothing for sure as there have been some rumors of Samsung using Amoled panels for the M30.

    Under The Hood

Though we have not confirmed the specs yet, the Samsung Galaxy M30 will run on the Samsung Exynos chipset, and will boast an octa-core processor. By the time the Samsung Galaxy M30 will be released, it will probably run Android 9.0 out-of-the-box.

    Memory And Storage

The Galaxy M30 may be rolled out in two variants, a 4GB RAM version and a 6GB one, both with different storage options. MicroSD support will be present, of course, with expandable memory up to 512 GB.

    Camera

The primary camera of the Galaxy M30 will support 2K video recording, according to rumours. We are yet to see the features that Samsung will bring to the camera, the front camera is most likely to be a 16 MP camera with HDR support.

    Battery And Connectivity

We believe the Samsung Galaxy M30 will pack a non-removable 5000 mAh Li-Po battery with fast-charging support. It will have a Type-C 1.0 reversible connector, with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, just like the Galaxy M20.

    Price And Availibility

Currently, we can make no speculations on the price of the device, but it is most likely to be priced below Rs. 20,000. It might be available in the same two colours, Ocean Blue and Charcoal Black.

Samsung Galaxy M20 Will Feature A 5000 mAh Battery

Samsung’s plan to reshuffle it’s entire line up of phones is coming to fruition slowly and the M series’ first phone will launch soon. Several leaks have surfaced since the knowledge of the Galaxy M20 phone’s existence. However, most of the rumours have been mostly about the cosmetics and nothing was really known about the internals. But it seems that now new leaks have surfaced that details the phone and camera specifications. The phone will feature a 5000 mAh battery.

    The Leak

There are very few phones currently in the market that have a 4500 mAh + battery. Some of these include the Motorola One Power, Honor 8X Max, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Moto E5 Plus. These phones generally sell quite well since battery is a huge issue for people in India. Bigger screens also require bigger batteries which is why most phablets and bigger screen phones have bigger batteries. The phone will feature a tear- drop notch and will have a dual camera setup at the back. The front camera will supposedly be 8MP and the two cameras at the back will be 13 and 5 Megapixels. The Galaxy M20 measures in at 156.4 x  74.5 x8.8.
