Apple iPhone To Launch Next Year With Triple Camera Setup

Huawei launched the P20 Pro on March 27th making it the first smartphone with a triple camera setup on the rear. The smartphone borrowed a couple of design cues from the iPhone X like its notch and placing the cameras vertically on the back. However, it appears that Apple might take a hint or two from Huawei for its 2019 iPhone lineup.

    iPhone X

According to Taipei Times, Apple is likely to launch a new iPhone with a triple-camera setup in the second half of next year. The report cites a research note from Yuanta Securities analyst Jeff Pu that does not mention any other details about the cameras. A report from the Economic Daily News last month suggested the camera setup will have a 6P lens design with up to 5X zoom and at least one 12MP lens.

This means that the camera setup might be very similar to the one found on the Huawei P20 Pro. The third lens’ addition would mean that the user will have the ability optically zoom in up to 3X without losing any data. Optical zoom means that users can zoom in without seeing any graininess or blurriness in the image, as opposed to a digital zoom. The iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X can optically zoom up to 2X.

    Huawei P20 Pro

The P20 Pro, on the other hand, already has these features and has been grabbing the headlines ever since its launch. It has a 40MP primary sensor, which supports 5x hybrid zoom. There is a secondary 8MP sensor, which offers 3x optical zoom, which also helps to create portrait mode. Similarly, there is a third sensor with 20MP resolution. Unlike the other two sensors, this is a monochrome sensor which helps to capture contrast and sharpness. Another mindboggling feature of this camera setup is a maximum ISO of 102,400.

It is still early to predict the details of the 2018 lineup, let alone the 2019 iPhone lineup. However, it will be interesting to see if Apple does go the same route as the Huawei P20 Pro or put their own spin on it.

  • Huawei P20 Lite, Huawei P20 Pro Launched In India Starting Rs 19999

Huawei P20 Lite, Huawei P20 Pro Launched In India Starting Rs 19999

Three weeks after launching the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro in Paris, Huawei has launched the Huawei P20 Lite and P20 Pro in India. The P20 Lite is priced at Rs 19999 and the Huawei P20 Pro will retail for Rs 64999. Both the smartphones will be exclusively available online via Amazon from the 3rd of May.

The Huawei P20 Pro is the flagship smartphone from Huawei that has grabbed a lot of headlines recently. Apart from the striking design of the device, it is also the first-ever smartphone with a triple-camera setup on the back. The Huawei P20 Pro will also be available in the new Twilight colour which, so far, is one of the most interesting colour variants of a smartphone.

The Huawei P20 Pro has a 6.1 inch RGBW full-colour OLED display with a 2244 x 1080 px resolution. This translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio which has its advantages. The Huawei P20 Pro also has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

The Huawei P20 Lite has a smaller 5.84 inch LTPS IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. The 19:9 aspect ratio will come in handy when users decide to hide the notch. Once hidden, the device moves to a more conventional 18:9 aspect ratio as the screen real estate on either side of the notch is blackened out.

The Huawei P20 Lite runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 659 Octa-core chipset while the P20 Pro runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset with NPU (Neural Processing Unit). Huawei has talked a lot about the integration of AI within the Huawei software. A lot of AI features can be found in the camera app like scene detection, portrait lighting etc. The Huawei P20 Lite has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage while the P20 Pro has 6GB RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

On the back of the smartphones is where the two differentiate the most. The Huawei P20 Pro has a 40MP primary sensor, which supports 5x hybrid zoom.

The Huawei P20 Lite has a 16MP RGB sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. In fact, this dual camera setup is similar to the one found on the Honor 7X. The Huawei P20 Lite and P20 Pro have a 24MP front-facing camera with 3D Portrait Lighting effect. This is very similar to the Portrait Lighting effect found on the iPhone X.

At a price of Rs 19999, the Huawei P20 Lite is a solid offering. The Huawei P20 Pro, on the other hand, will go toe-to-toe with the likes of Galaxy S9+ and iPhone 8 Plus. The registrations for both the smartphones have started and the smartphones will go on sale on the 3rd of May via Amazon.

  • Huawei P20 And P20 Pro Will Be Amazon-Exclusive

Huawei P20 And P20 Pro Will Be Amazon-Exclusive

The launch of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro in India is just a few days away. The company has sent out press invites for a launch event on the 24th of April. Both the smartphones were launched globally on the 27th of March in Paris. Now, according to a listing on Amazon, the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro will be sold in India via Amazon exclusively.

So far, the Huawei P20 Pro, with its triple camera setup, has been well-received. It is the first-ever smartphone with a triple-camera setup on the back and offers a great build quality with an all-glass design. The Huawei P20 Pro has the same build quality and design albeit, a smaller display and a dual-camera setup on the back. Both the smartphones also sport a notch which houses the front camera, earpiece and the necessary sensors. Huawei, however, has included an option to hide the notch via software but, that also means that you lose a bit of screen real estate.

The pricing of the P20 and P20 Pro will be key for the Indian market. The P20 retails for a starting price of 649 Euros (Rs 52800 approx.) and the P20 Pro is priced at 899 Euros (Rs 73000 approx.). Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has been very competitive with its pricing in India especially with the Honor 9 Lite, 7X and View10. Hence, it is fair to assume that the price of the Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro won’t be a direct conversion of their European prices.

The launch of the P20 and P20 Pro will reveal the most important aspect of the Indian market, the price. If priced competitively, the Huawei P20 and P20 can do very well in the India smartphone market.

  • Huawei P20, P20 Pro To Launch In India On April 24th

Huawei P20, P20 Pro To Launch In India On April 24th

Three weeks after the global launch of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, the company is now all set to launch them in India. A few days ago, Huawei India’s Twitter account teased a possible launch of the new smartphones and now, the company has sent out press invites for an event. The invite does not explicitly mentions the P20 smartphones but, has the tagline, “See Mooore.” This is the same promotional tagline that was used during the global launch of the Huawei P20 series.

The pricing of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro will be key for the Indian market. The Huawei P20 retails for a starting price of 649 Euros (Rs 52800 approx.) and the P20 Pro is priced at 899 Euros (Rs 73000 approx.). Huawei’s sub brand Honor has been very competitive with its pricing in India especially with the Honor 9 Lite, 7X and View10. Hence, it is fair to assume that the price of the Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro won’t be a direct conversion of their European prices.

The Huawei P20 Pro is definitely the bigger star of the two smartphones.

In the coming days, another highly anticipated flagship device will launch as well, the OnePlus 6. This time around, it could be priced higher than its predecessors and could cross the Rs 40000 mark for the first time in India. If so, it will be more comparable to the Huawei P20 which is also expected to be priced around Rs 45000.

How the Indian consumers perceive the P20 and P20 will largely depend on the pricing of the two devices. If priced competitively, the two phones have enough features to make a mark in the Indian smartphone market.

Huawei P20 Pro India Launch Teased By Huawei On Twitter

On the 27th of March, Huawei launched the Huawei P20 Pro and P20 at an event in Paris. The smartphones were subsequently listed on Huawei India’s official website but, there was no confirmation about their launch in India. Now, Huawei India has posted a teaser on Twitter which hints at the launch of the Huawei P20 Pro and P20 in India.

The Huawei P20 has a starting price of 649 Euros (Rs 52000 approx.) while the P20 Pro costs 899 Euros (Rs 72000). In India, however, the smartphones are expected to be priced much more competitively. For reference, we expect the Huawei P20 Pro to be priced closer to the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Huawei P20 Pro: A Triple-Camera Flagship Like No Other

The Huawei P20 Pro, months before its official launch, started gaining attention for its possible camera implementation. The rumours were confirmed at the launch when the P20 Pro was unveiled with a triple-camera setup on the back. Moreover, the camera implementation is not just a gimmick and every sensor solves its purpose. The Huawei P20 Pro has a 3X optical zoom compared to the 2X zoom found in most smartphones.

The smartphone has a 6.1 inch OLED display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone has the HiSilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The P20 Pro also has a notch on the top portion of the display. However, Huawei has included an option for either enabling or disabling the notch via software which should please everyone on the “notch spectrum.”

    Huawei P20 Pro

Powering the smartphone is a 4000 mAh battery with SuperCharge technology. The smartphone, however, misses out on wireless charging despite its all-glass build. One more thing that is unique about the Huawei P20 and the P20 Pro is the design. Just like most of the flagship smartphone these devices have an all-glass design with a one of a kind Twilight finish, which makes the smartphone alter colour in different lighting condition.

  • Huawei P20 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S9+ vs iPhone X Vs Moto Z2 Force: Camera Shootout!

Huawei P20 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S9+ vs iPhone X Vs Moto Z2 Force: Camera Shootout!

Huawei recently launched its 2018 flagship Android smartphone, the Huawei P20 Pro. Apart from its design which is inspired by the iPhone X, the most exciting feature of the device is its camera capabilities. The P20 Pro is the first-ever smartphone to have a triple-camera setup on the back. Its global price is EUR 899 (Rs 71000 approx.) but, it is expected to have a lower price tag in India.

Over the years, camera performance of a smartphone has taken precedence over other features. A crappy camera can be the downfall of an otherwise great smartphone. The Essential Ph-1 is a great example of that. Similarly, a great camera can uplift a smartphone with other visible flaws. The 2016 Google Pixel smartphones did not have a great design, add-on features like wireless charging or water resistance. However, they had the best camera on the market which overshadowed much of their flaws.

So, we took the top flagship smartphones on the market right now and put their cameras through the paces. The smartphones in question here are the Huawei P20 Pro, the Galaxy S9+, Apple iPhone X and the Moto Z2 Force.

  • Unboxing The Huawei P20 Pro

    Unboxing The Huawei P20 Pro

Huawei’s P20 Pro may be a flagship for the company if you ignore their glossy limited edition Huawei Mate RS, but for a lot of others, it is a direct stab at flagship Android phones. The Huawei P20 Pro also makes a unique proposition with a triple rear camera setup which makes it unique for the flagship market too.

[section label=”Initial Impressions”]While we had leaks aplenty the phone managed to live up to expectations with the design and feature set. The design is extremely close to that of the iPhone X. While the notch is smaller the metal frame sandwiched between the glass front and back looks extremely good.

The company wanted to retain the fingerprint sensor on the front which means that you get a large chin. But, at least a very usable fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor also allows for the navigation to be moved off the screen.

The three cameras on the Huawei P20 Pro are, however, the most naturally noticeable feature of the phone. A massive 40 MP shooter makes for the primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture with an additional 20 MP (f/1.6) camera. The third 8 MP 3x optical zoom, telephoto lens equipped, shooter makes a good mix for excellent portraits and zoomed in shots. The camera gets a natural 3x zoom and a 5x hybrid zoom which allows for lossless zoomed in pictures. The front gets a 24 MP wide selfie camera.

    [section label=”Unboxing”]

The unboxing experience is not very special for the Huawei P20 Pro, however, you do get a complete set of accessories

    • Huawei P20 Pro
    • Documentation
    • USB Type C Earphones
    • USB C to 3.5mm Adapter
    • Sim Ejector Tool
    • SuperCharge Wall Charger
    • USB Type C Cable

The software experience of the phone is what makes the P20 Pro an interesting product. For starters, you get Android 8.1 out the box, with a promised update to Android 9 soon after release. The notorious notch can be hidden in software by making the status bar black, something which “no notch nazis” would like a lot.

You can customise the OS quite a lot, from removing the navigation keys to duplication of commonly used apps. The camera app is also quite extensive with lots of shooting options. The phone also shoots and records H.265 video at 4k which is good as most phones still use dated codecs.

The Huawei P20 Pro will come to India in April. Pricing is expected to be lower than the Euro 899 price it was launched for globally. The launch of the P20 Pro will also mark the return of the brand Huawei into India which stopped sales mid-2016.

  • Huawei P20 Pro, P20 Will Soon Launch In India

Huawei P20 Pro, P20 Will Soon Launch In India

On the 27th of March, Huawei launched the P20 and P20 Pro at an event in Paris. At the launch, the company announced their global prices but, skipped the availability details in India. Now, the official website of Huawei India has listed a teaser of the Huawei P20 Pro. The teaser, however, doesn’t mention any date of launch or pricing details.

It looks like Huawei will host a separate event in India to launch its marquee smartphones for 2018. For a price sensitive market like India, it will be interesting to see how Huawei prices their smartphones. The Huawei P20 Pro’s official price is EUR 900, which translates to about Rs 72000.

The Huawei P20 Pro is the first-ever Android smartphone to have a triple-camera setup on the back. The three sensors are used for zooming in, taking bokeh shots and the monochrome sensor helps in better colour reproduction. The Huawei P20, on the other hand, has a dual-camera setup but, identical design to the Pro model.

Both the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro also sport a notch. At the event, Huawei boasted about the fact that it has a smaller notch than the iPhone X. While we have criticised companies for blatantly copying the notch but, not getting rid of the chin, a recent Carl Pei interview has given us better insight on the subject. Interestingly, Huawei decided to take advantage of the necessary chin and housed a fingerprint sensor on the front.

    Huawei P20 Overview

The device has a 5.84 inch FHD+ 2244 x 1080 px LTPS IPS LCD display with 423 ppi.

Under the hood, the device has a HiSilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core chipset with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Additionally, the storage is expandable using a micro SD card (up to 256GB).

The phone has an AI-powered dual Leica camera setup, with a 12MP wide angle lens and a 20MP secondary sensor with an f/1.6 aperture on both the lenses. The device has 1.55 microns pixel size, which is bigger than the 1.4-micron pixel lens found on the Galaxy S9.

The phone has a 24MP front-facing camera with 3D facial enhancement, to improve the selfie-taking experience.

    Huawei P20 Pro Overview

    The Huawei P20 Pro has a 6.1 inch RGBW full-colour OLED display with a 2244 x 1080 px resolution.

Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset, a 2.2GHz octa-core processor along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Powering the smartphone is a 4000 mAh battery with support for SuperCharge, a proprietary fast charging technology. Interestingly, the Huawei P20 Pro also has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

The Huawei P20 Pro has a 40MP primary sensor, which supports 5x hybrid zoom.

  • Huawei P20 Pro Vs Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s

Huawei P20 Pro Vs Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s

27th of March was one of the busiest days in the smartphone industry. Huawei and Xiaomi launched their flagship smartphones and Apple launched its most affordable iPad. Huawei in total launched three new smartphones. The P20, P20 Pro and the Mate RS Porsche Design. Similarly, Xiaomi launched its flagship Mi MIX 2s. These devices have top of the line specifications with premium build quality. The Huawei P20 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s are those devices, which offers the best camera, best design and best hardware without a premium price tag. However, the 899 Euros price tag of the P20 Pro is much more than the 3299 Yuan (423 Euros) price of the Mi MIX 2s.

The display is one of the most important parts of a smartphone. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s has a 5.99 inch IPS LCD screen with FHD+ 2160 x 1080 px resolution. Similarly, the Huawei P20 Pro has a 6.1 inch 2244 x 1080 px OLED display. The OLED display always has an advantage over an IPS LCD display in colour reproduction and offers higher contrast ratio. However, an OLED display is also known for the infamous pixel burn issue, which degrades the quality of the display.

    Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s
Huawei P20 Pro with a notch

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6/8GB RAM, which will feature in most of the Android flagship smartphones of 2018. The chipset scores record-breaking benchmark scores and offers a great set of features with latest LTE standards and Bluetooth 5.0. On the other hand, the Huawei P20 Pro has a HiSilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core chipset with 6GB RAM. This is an in-house chipset from Huawei with a dedicated neural engine. When it comes to day to day usage, these chipsets will perform like a pro. However, some of the games might work better on a Qualcomm chipset powered Mi MIX 2s due to better optimisation.

The camera is one more department where these smartphones will excel. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s has a dual primary camera setup with a 12MP wide-angle and a 12MP telephoto lens. This camera has AI capabilities with features like bokeh mode, 4K video recording capability. The Huawei P20 Pro has a triple camera setup with a 40MP RGB, 20MP monochrome and an 8MP depth sensor. The smartphone offers 3x optical zoom, 4K video recording and super slow motion 960fps video recording. Due to larger pixel size, the smartphone can capture high-quality photos even in low lighting condition.

  • Huawei P20 Pro Officially Launched At 899 Euros

Huawei P20 Pro Officially Launched At 899 Euros

After months of constant leaks, Huawei has launched its flagship device for early-2018, the Huawei P20 Pro. Up until a few weeks ago, there doubts over what moniker this phone will carry, many believing that the P10 successor will be the P11. However, at the Paris event, all the doubts have been put to rest. The Huawei P20 Pro will start retailing at a price of 900 Euros. There is no word on the pricing and availability of the smartphone in India, as of now.

Two of the most striking features of the Huawei P20 Pro lay on the front and back. The front of the smartphone houses a very iPhone X-esque notch which houses the earpiece, sensors and a front camera. That being said, the device also has a front-facing fingerprint sensor. Unlike the P20 Pro, the iPhone X has nearly zero bezels on the other three sides of the device. The fingerprint sensor also doubles up as a single navigation button if you don’t like on-screen navigation buttons.

The iPhone X reminiscence doesn’t end there, as the P20 Pro has a vertically place camera setup, much like the iPhone X. However, where it differentiates is the hardware and implementation of the camera setup. It is the first ever smartphone with a triple-camera setup on the back.

In an appreciable move, the P20 Pro will run on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The caveat here is that EMUI 8 will be on top of the Android Oreo, which means no stock Android OS experience. Then again, Huawei has never launched stock OS smartphones.

In the optics department is where this smartphone will grab all the headlines. The Huawei P20 Pro has a 40MP primary sensor, which supports 5x hybrid zoom.

On the front of the smartphone is a 24MP sensor. Apart from the selfies, this camera will also be responsible for Face Unlock, a feature that has become increasingly common with Android devices. The front-facing camera also has a new 3D Portrait Lighting feature, which sounds very similar to Apple iPhone X’s Portrait Lighting effect.

Huawei is one of the few brands to still make a Special Edition variant of its smartphones.
