  • Samsung Tops J.D. Power Tablet Customer Satisfaction Survey, Beats Apple

Samsung Tops J.D. Power Tablet Customer Satisfaction Survey, Beats Apple

J.D. Power and Associates is an American-based marketing information services firm that’s highly regarded for its research on customer satisfaction. Apple loves to quote their surveys, and does so at media events and on earnings calls.

But this is one report Tim Cook and company are probably not going to be mentioning. In J.D. Power’s latest tablet customer satisfaction survey, Apple was bested by Samsung on overall satisfaction and in particular areas like device cost.

“Samsung showed particularly strong improvement in the cost factor (25-point increase),” the firm said in a statement. “Apple ranks second scoring 833 and performs particularly well in performance and ease of operation.”

Apple scored 5 out of 5 stars for Overall Satisfaction, Performance, Ease of Use, Physical Design, and Tablet Features, as shown in the chart below. For Cost, apple scored 2 out of 5. In comparison, Samsung scored a 5, 3, 3, 5, 4, and 4 in those same categories, losing to Apple on four of categories, tying in one, and winning on the sixth, Cost.

Samsung tablets received 835 points on a 1,000 scale, with Apple (833), Amazon (826) and Asus (821) right behind it. This is commendable, seeing as in its April study, J.D. Power’s survey ranked Samsung under the study average, with a score of 822, while Apple took the top spot with 836. The surveyors from the marketing firm also note that Samsung is the only manufacturer to have improved in all five areas that are being examined since the last study. These include performance, ease of operation, styling and design, features and cost.

  • Apple iPad Market Share Plunges Below 30%

Apple iPad Market Share Plunges Below 30%

Just 15 months ago Apple commanded 70% of the global tablet market, but according to the latest figures from research firm IDC, the iPad has slipped to less than 30% market share. The reason is the growing threat from Android tablets from the likes of Samsung, Lenovo and Asus.

Apple’s decision to shift its iPad launches to the fall from earlier in the year appears to have undermined its standing versus rival tablet makers.

Even with that seasonal factor, the numbers don’t look great for Apple because its sales in Q3 2013 are just 100,000 iPads higher than the were in Q2 2013, and that’s with the new and cheaper iPad mini in the market. Also unwelcome is momentum for arch-rival Samsung, which managed to more than double its shipments from 4.3m to 9.7m. Lenovo also did well, pushing 2.3m ‘slabs out the door, up from 0.4m a year back.

Despite the stuttering Apple sales figures, the tablet market as a whole grew by 36% year-on-year and was up 7% compared to the second quarter of 2013.

The tablet market is starting to look like the smartphone market. Apple defines the industry, then watches as a bunch of low cost competitors eat up share. Apple is still the most profitable of the bunch.

Google sees the tablet market as a fresh opportunity to control personal computing. It has no chance of taking desktop computing away from Microsoft, so it’s attacking tablet computing, which eats into Apple’s market share.

  • Apple sold 33.8 million iPhones and 14.1 million iPads last quarter

Apple sold 33.8 million iPhones and 14.1 million iPads last quarter

Apple’s earnings report is out and the Cupertino based computing giant has exciting numbers to show. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $37.5 billion and quarterly net profit of $7.5 billion, or $8.26 per diluted share, compared to revenue of $36 billion and net profit of $8.2 billion, or $8.67 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 37 percent compared to 40 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 60 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple also sold 33.8 million iPhones compared to 26.9 million along with 14.1 million iPads during the quarter, compared to 14 million in the year-ago quarter. Comparing Smartphone sales Samsung Sold 86 million in the same quarter, but this number includes far more models than Apple offers including many a budget phones that don’t directly compete with iPhones. Samsung sold 16 million Galaxy S4 in what it calls “orders placed” that includes shipments to dealers and retail outlets, where the actual sale number remains low. Samsung also managed to snag 10 million tablet sales compared to the iPad’s 14.1 million, again however, the range Samsung offers is a lot more than that offered by Apple with the iPad.

The quarterly earnings didn’t include the iPad mini with Retina display or iPad Air, which were announced last week, and only included one week’s worth of sales for the latest iPhones, the 5c and 5s.

“We’re pleased to report a strong finish to an amazing year with record fourth quarter revenue, including sales of almost 34 million iPhones. We’re excited to go into the holidays with our new iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, iOS 7, the new iPad mini with Retina Display and the incredibly thin and light iPad Air, new MacBook Pros, the radical new Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks and the next generation iWork and iLife apps for OS X and iOS.” Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO

  • Rumoured Specs Of iPad 5 And iPad Mini 2 (In Gold) Leak

Rumoured Specs Of iPad 5 And iPad Mini 2 (In Gold) Leak

The iPad Mini 2 is rumored to come in the same colors as the new iPhone 5S, we have already seen a photo of the Space Gray version, and now it looks like we have some photos of the gold version of the iPad Mini 2.

    ipad

Sonny Dickson, the Australian blogger who revealed most of the details about Apple’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c before it was launched, has just revealed a ton of details and shared leaked photos of the next generation iPad mini.

Dickson also mentioned that, according to his sources, the iPad mini 2 would include Apple’s new A7 64-bit chip, the M7 motion coprocessor we’re seeing in the iPhone 5s, along with 1GB of RAM. As for the 9.7-inch iPad 5, Dickson’s sources revealed that it will pack 2GB of RAM under the hood, presumably sporting the same specs as little brother. He also claims that iPad mini 2 will come in Space Gray, Gold and Silver. The iPad mini 2 will also include Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which was introduced with the launch of iPhone 5s.

If Apple wants Touch ID to be taken seriously and gain mass appeal, it makes sense to have it on as many devices as possible. With that in mind, we’d say it was likely that the iPad 5 will get the same fingerprint scanner, although we can’t say for definite.

Rumour has it that Apple is hosting a media event on Oct 15, which likely will serve as the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 release date and Apple fans are crossing their fingers for the prayer to become real.

The event 2013 will likely see the official announcement of the next generation iPhone (5S) and possibly the much humored budget iPhone 5C. If the leaks and rumors become true, we may see an iPhone 5S with a fingerprint sensor (Touch ID) on the home button, a 12- or 13-megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash, and a gold-colored model. iOS 7 is been in Beta for months now, so we expect some news for the final release of iOS 7. Other rumored products that may be launched are the updated iPad and the iPad mini with retina display.

No matter what happens, we will be there to bring you the latest updates below:

  • Bloomberg : Retina iPad Mini Will Come Out By Year End

Reports of a retina display for the iPad mini aren’t aren’t new, but an end-of-the-year release date is. And according to Bloomberg, Apple is looking at a very busy holiday season, with a new iPad mini as well as a new, redesigned iPad, both available before the end of year.

The next version of the iPad will be adapted to look more like the current iPad Mini, with rounded corners and thinner sides, one source told the news organisation.

Details on the new iPad mini were sparse apart from the addition of a Retina display, as featured in the current iPad.

A Retina display would also bring the new iPad Mini in line with other Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPod Touch and MacBook Pro. The current iPad Mini comes with a lower-resolution 132ppi screen from LG and Taiwan’s AU Optronics.

Retina display is a brand name used by Apple for their liquid crystal displays, in which pixelation is imperceptible to the human eye. Other brands also offer higher resolution screens, marketed simply as high definition.

With no firm confirmations, however, the iPad mini with Retina may only be a product refresh rather than the iPad mini 2, which was rumoured to have been pushed back to a 2014 release.

As The Verge reports, the Bloomberg News article makes no mention of the larger, 12.9-inch iPad that’s been rumored previously, and it’s not clear whether we’ll see an iPhone 5S or a new, cheaper model at September 10th event. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  • WSJ : Next iPad To Be Thinner, Will Use iPad Mini’s Light Touch-Panel Technology

WSJ : Next iPad To Be Thinner, Will Use iPad Mini’s Light Touch-Panel Technology

Various sources have been mulling for months that Apple’s fifth-generation 9.7-inch iPad will adopt the overall appearance of the iPad mini, including its skinnier side bezels and thinner, lighter enclosure. And as if you ever needed more proof, now the credulous Wall Street Journal is finally out with its own report :

The same touch-panel technology that made the iPad mini thin and light will likely feature in the next iPad, which is currently being produced by Apple Inc.’s Asian suppliers, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

What many consumers generally call a “screen” consists of multiple layers, and the “touch panel” specifically refers to the layer equipped with touch sensors, between the liquid-crystal display and the outermost cover glass. The iPad mini, according to a teardown report by research firm IHS iSuppli, uses a film-based touch panel, which is thinner and lighter than the glass-based touch panel that the current full-size model uses. Following the iPad mini’s success, Apple plans to use the film-based touch panel in its next regular-size iPad, the people said.

Apple’s next iPad is expected to take other design cues from the iPad mini, including a thinner bezel on the sides of the device, allowing the overall frame to become smaller while still offering the same 9.7-inch display. It’s also possible that the fifth-generation iPad will include stereo speakers, like the iPad mini.

In the second quarter, Apple was still the largest tablet vendor accounting for 32.4% of the market by shipments, but its share had declined from 60.3% a year earlier, according to research firm IDC.

Apple’s next big event is scheduled for September 10th.

  • Can’t Login to Twitter on an iPhone, iPad or iPod ? Twitter knows it, Here is How you Fix it!

Can’t Login to Twitter on an iPhone, iPad or iPod ? Twitter knows it, Here is How you Fix it!

Many iPhone / iOS device users are facing issues logging into Twitter from their iOS devices, so much so that some people cant even open the twitter website on their browser. Twitter is aware of this bug and claims that it is working on a fix.

If you can’t login to Twitter on your iPhone, iPad or iPod you may be one of the many who are affected by this bug.

[box type=”notice” title=”Bug Alert:  ” message=” Some users are having trouble sending a Tweet with photo. Some users report seeing the following errors when logging into Twitter for iPhone: Unauthorized / @(null) / Error Loading Tweets (400 or 401) “]

Twitter Recommends the following steps to attempt to reinstate your iPhone / iOS Twitter access to your Twitter account .

Remove your account from the app and log back in

If clearing your phone’s cache or turning your phone off and then on again didn’t work, you should try removing and then re-adding your account to the app. This is essentially the same thing as logging out and back in again, but since there is not “log out” option on the app, you’ll need to remove the account from the app entirely and then sign back in.

Note: The instructions for removing an account from the app are different for iOS4 and iOS5 (and higher). If you don’t know which OS version your phone is running, you can check by going to your iPhone’s Settings > General > About > Version.

To remove your account from the Twitter for iPhone app:

    1. Go to your phone’s System Settings.
    2. Tap on Twitter.
    3. Tap on the account that needs to be removed.
    4. Select Delete Account.

To add your account back to the app:

    1. Open the Twitter for iPhone app.
    2. Tap Sign in.
    3. Enter your username and password.
    4. Tap Done.

If you’ve forgotten your account’s password, follow the troubleshooting steps below to recover it.

How to send a password reset from your mobile device:

    1. If you’re using a mobile device to access Twitter, you can send yourself a password reset via Twitter for Android, Twitter for iPhone, or mobile.twitter.com.
    2. On the welcome page, select Sign in and then Forgot password?
    3. Enter the email address or username that you are trying to request a password reset for. If you have a phone number associated with the account, you can choose to receive a reset via SMS.

    Uninstall and reinstall the app

If above troubleshooting steps didn’t resolve your issue, you can try deleting and reinstalling the app on your iPhone.

    To uninstall the app:

    1. From your home screen, press and hold your finger on the Twitter for iPhone app icon.
    2. The icon will begin to wobble and an x will appear in the top left corner of the icon. Tap the x.
    3. Your iPhone will ask you to confirm your decision to delete the app. Tap Delete.
    4. The app will disappear from the screen and has been deleted from your phone.

    To reinstall the app:

    1. Go to twitter.com/#!/download/iphone and click Download now.
    2. Open the App Store app on your phone and search for Twitter.
    3. Tap Install.

    Try clearing your phone’s cache

    1. Tap the Settings app icon on your iPhone.
    2. Tap Safari in the list of applications.
    3. Scroll down and select Clear History and/or Clear Cookies and Data
    4. If you’ve cleared your cache but are still experiencing the issue, try turning your phone off and then on.

Check that your time zone settings are set to update automatically

If you’re seeing “Unauthorized” or “Invalid username and Password” when you try to sign in, this is likely caused by incorrect time zone settings or an outdated version of the Twitter client application. Please make sure your Twitter client is up to date with the latest version and that the date, time and timezone settings are set to update automatically.

To check your time zone settings:

    1. Tap the Settings app icon on your iPhone.
    2. Tap General.
    3. Select Date & Time.
    4. Make sure the option to Set Automatically is enabled.
  • iOS 7 For iPad Screenshots Leak

Apple showed off iOS 7 to the world last week and promised its release to consumers sometime ‘this fall.’ The developer community have been busy working through the many changes, but Apple only made it available on the iPhone and iPod Touch, missing is an optimized version for the iPad.

    iOS 7

However, if you’re on of the millions who are wondering exactly how iOS 7 will look on your iPad then these leaked screenshot will give you an indication. These images are from an iOS 7 emulator and carried over to iPad, but a notable change brings a full screen Notification Center to the forefront. Overall it seems that Apple is still working things out as important features like the Control Center and calendar aren’t in sync with how the iOS 7 beta looks on the iPhone.

    ios 7

On the iPad, iOS 7 looks largely the same as it does on the iPhone, but more spread out. As is the case with iOS 6, Apple leverages the increased screen real estate the tablet affords it in order to improve certain areas of the OS’ functionality.

Apple’s iOS 7 will come to the iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4 and iPad mini this fall, and an iPad iOS 7 beta is reportedly coming in the weeks ahead.
