Xiaomi Discontinues The Mi Max And Mi Note Lineup

Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has announced that it is discontinuing two of its iconic lineup of smartphones. The CEO of the company, in a post on Weibo, the country’s major social networking website has officially declared that Xiaomi will discontinue the Mi Max and Mi Note series; as it has no new plans of releasing a device under the name this year. Notably, While the original Mi Max was released in the year 2016, the first Mi Note was introduced a year before, in 2015.

    About the decision
    Mi Max 2

As mentioned above, the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun has officially confirmed; that the company has no intention of releasing a smartphone under the Mi Max or the Mi Note lineup this year. In his post, he has explained the variation between the Xiaomi and Redmi brand of handsets. According to Jun, while the Xiaomi brand focuses on the higher, more premium end of the market with the Mi series and the MIX lineup; the Redmi brand is centred towards value. With product lineups such as the Redmi A series and the Redmi Note and K series, the brand focuses more on the value and e-commerce market.

While the company has not specified the reason for the cancellation of the Mi Max and Mi Note lineup of smartphones, it is being speculated there are many. With the humongous size of the Mi Max series, it catered to all but a niche of people who wanted a giant device. Additionally, the Mi Note series was continually overshadowed by other flagship devices of the company. While it is not certain, it is completely possible that the aforementioned reasons led the company to take the decision.

Also, it is not explicitly said that the next generation smartphone in the series, in this case, the Mi Max 4 or the Mi Note 4 will never make an appearance. Xiaomi has just said there will be no device launch this year, which may mean that if it deems it worthy, it may launch a handset in any of the series starting next year.

Xiaomi Mi Note 4 To Launch With Transparent Back

The first Xiaomi smartphone to enter the Indian market was the Xiaomi Mi 3. The company launched the smartphone in July 2014. Since then, Xiaomi has produced smartphones in all the price segments. From budget-oriented devices to flagship smartphones.  A TENAA listing suggests that the company might soon launch the Mi Note 4. We expect that the device will first be launched in China and then the company will organize a global launch if it does well in the Chinese market.

The TENAA listing of the Mi Note 4 suggests that smartphone would have both LTE and GSM capabilities. The specific model number which the TENAA listing certified is M1807E8A. Also, the images for the device reveal that the smartphone may feature a transparent rear-panel. This rear-panel is similar to the one on the Xiaomi Mi 8 – Explorer Edition. We speculate that the Mi Note 4 could sport a notch display with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. According to rumours, the smartphone may also sport an OLED panel and a 3,100 mAh Li-Ion battery.

The trend with Xiaomi smartphones is that they run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. Regardless of whether the device belongs to the flagship or the budget segment. We think the trend of using a Snapdragon chipset will continue with the Mi Note 4 as well. The smartphone may either run on the Snapdragon 660 or the new Snapdragon 710 SoC. We can also see from the leaked TENAA images that the smartphone has a triple camera setup. Although not much is known about the specification of these sensors. We speculate that there will be three storage variants of the device. The smartphone may be available with 6/4GB RAM and 32/64/128GB storage.

The Mi lineup has always been competitively priced. So, the Mi Note 4 should also follow the same trend. The price we expect the smartphone to launch at is CNY 1,999 (Rs. 20,115.94 approx). We will keep an eye out for further development on this story so stay tuned.

Xiaomi Beats OnePlus, Brings Out a Bamboo Version of the Mi Note

One of the most awaited features of the OnePlus One were the multiple textured back panels which were called the StyleSwap Covers by the company. But citing technical issues during production, the company said last year that they were stopping production of the covers as they didn’t meet the standards. That news disheartened a lot of users who wanted to customize their devices with those innovative covers. OnePlus’s compatriot, Xiaomi though has raced ahead of OnePlus in this regard and has brought out a new Bamboo edition of the recently launched Mi Note.

Details of Xiaomi Mi Note Plus Revealed

It’s safe to say, Xiaomi has been on a roll. It has unveiled several new smartphones in the market, which are undoubtedly remarkable and are gaining fame for being reasonable priced. The Chinese smartphone brand showcased a new smartphone line back in January called Mi Note, which comprises of Xiaomi Mi Note and Mi Note Pro. It appears like the firm has one more device in the Mi Note series to offer which is being worked on secretly.

A new premium device showed up on GeekBench that speaks of the high specifications of the forthcoming device. It also illustrated the benchmark scores of Mi Note Plus, along with Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9. According to the cross-platform processor benchmark, Xiaomi Mi Note Plus sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and 4GB of RAM, just like the Mi Note Pro. The Mi Note Plus, on the other hand, scored 1235 and 4039 in single-core and multi-core score respectively.

We doubt Xiaomi’s new offering will give th Galaxy S6 tough competition, but given the price range of the Galaxy S6, the Mi Note Plus is expected to attract more customers. Recently, Lin Bin, Co-Founder and President of Xiaomi also hinted that a special edition of Mi Note would be coming out soon. The fresh device is expected to release today. It is uncertain if Xiaomi is pointing to the Plus version as the special edition, but once the firm makes the announcement, things will come to light.

Xiaomi smartphones have been well received world over. The company has expanded itself to various sections with Mi purifiers, power banks and pen drives. The Chinese electronics producer had not shown any inclination to smartwatches till now, but the rumour mill suggest another story. Xiaomi seems to have taken the recently launched Apple Watch as a challenge and according to a report, the China’s Apple is working furiously to gain a foothold in the smartwatch segment.

Xiaomi isn’t only known for its smartphones, the company recently unveiled a super affordable action camera.

For the time being, these are just reports and there’s no solid proof of its authenticity. Very scarce details are known about the watch, but from the little information, it can be said that Xiaomi is prepping to answer back to its competition. The company is renowned for providing superior specs at affordable prices like the new Mi Pad, Mi Note, and most recently, a super cheap action camera. It’s an easy conclusion, if the news turns out to be real, Xiaomi’s first smartwatch will be priced lesser than the other wearables in the market.

Xiaomi Invests in Gaming and Software Giant Kingsoft

After gaining huge success in India and overseas through its impressive smartphone line-up, the Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi has plans to expand further. Seems like the company is now eyeing the games and software market.

Xiaomi recently acquired 3% of Kingsoft’s share and the deal was finalised at approximately $68 million. The partially acquired company is a Chinese games and software giant, which started by developing PC games and is now a renowned name in security, entertainment and enterprise products. With this buyout, Xiaomi seems to be laying the ground for dedicated a gaming experience and improved services for its loyal customers.

Until now, Xiaomi was inking deals in hardware only – a whopping $203.7 million investment in home appliance maker Midea Group and a strategic funding in wearable start-up Misfit. The Chinese top smartphone manufacturer bought the shares of Kingsoft from the Chinese investment holding Tencent and the deal is likely to finish by January end.

    mi note 1

Last week, Xiaomi amazed everyone with the launch of the 5.7-inch Mi Note. The company still has something in its bag and will unveil it on 20th January; it left its fans longing with an image that speaks of a mysterious new gaming hardware.

Recently, the news cropped up that the smartphone giant has plans to invest in Indian tech start-ups, as well as overseas media content. • Xiaomi Directly Targets OnePlus One With the Launch of 5.7-inch Mi Note

Xiaomi Directly Targets OnePlus One With the Launch of 5.7-inch Mi Note

World’s third largest smartphone maker, Xiaomi took a great leap in order to challenge the likes of Apple, Samsung and OnePlus with the new 5.7-inch phablet called the Mi Note.

Many expected the Chinese manufacturer to launch the second generation Redmi Note or the Mi5, but instead the company decided to take a step ahead and launched the Xiaomi Mi Note. The new device flaunts a 5.7-inch 1080p display and seems to be Xiaomi’s contender against the OnePlus One (with a price to match.)

The device is powered by a Snapdragon 801 processor and comes with 3 GB RAM. The phablet will be available in 16 and 32 GB variants. The company has also launched a Pro version of the Mi Note which is powered by 64 bit Snapdragon 810, comes with 4GB of RAM and has a 64GB version only. The pro version flaunts an enticing 2560×1440 at 515ppi screen (2k display.)

Both are powered by a 3000mAh battery. The devices also sport a 13MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a 4 MP front facing selfie camera. They run on MIUI 6, which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The Mi Note and Pro are 7 mm thin and weigh 161 gm.

    mi note 2

Mi Note is protected on both sides with 2.5D + 3D curved Gorilla Glass 3. According to the company, it’s highly resistant to scratches and shattering.

Xiaomi has become the world’s fastest growing smartphone manufacturer swelling its shipment three times last year. The new Mi Note will compete head to head with OnePlus’ One which was launched last year.

There is no doubt the company has a strong hold on the tech market, however, Xiaomi is still struggling with the idea of breaking into the western market. With the launch of Mi Note, we can expect the Chinese smartphone giant to break free from the Asian market and focus on a more global scale.

The Xiaomi Mi Note will retail for 2,299RMB, which is about $371 or Rs. 22,893, while the Mi Note Pro is priced for 3,299RMB, which is about $532 dollars or Rs. 32,800.
