    Earlier this month, Xiaomi’s subsidiary, Redmi launched two new budget-oriented smartphones which include the Redmi 7 and the Redmi Y3. Like other smartphones from the company, the newly launched devices pack competitive specs at a lucrative price tag. Even though smartphones were announced previously they were not available for purchase then. The Redmi 7 will go on sale for the first time in India today.

    The Redmi 7 will be available for purchase from Amazon.in, Mi.com/in and offline Mi stores. The smartphone is offered in three colour options which include Lunar Red, Eclipse Black and Comet Blue. It is available in two storage options for which the price is as follows:

    • 2 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM – Rs 7,999
    • 3 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM – Rs 8,999

    To recall, the Redmi 7 measures 158.65 x 76.43 x 8.47mm and weighs in at 180g. It features a polycarbonate body with the “Aura Smoke Design” at the back. The handset sports a 6.26 inch LCD display with a resolution of  1520 x 720 px. To maintain the maximum screen real estate, a waterdrop notch is present on the top of the display. Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front ensures the display stays protected against scratches and accidental drops. For biometric security and rapidly unlocking the handset, it features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and supports face unlock technology.

    The Redmi 7 features the Snapdragon 632 SoC which is manufactured using the 14nm fabrication process. The chipset consists of an Octa-core CPU and the Adreno 506 GPU. In terms of optics, the smartphone has a dual rear camera setup comprising of an f/2.2 aperture equipped 12 MP sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor. For selfies, an 8 MP camera is housed in the notch on top of the display.

    The Redmi 7 has a polycarbonate body with an attractive “Aura Smoke Design” on the back. The front of the smartphone is dominated by a 6.26-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1520 x 720 px. It is shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 to protect it from scratches and drops. Back of the device has the dual rear cameras placed vertically on the top left corner with the LED flash beneath the module. The rest of the back panel is clean except the fingerprint sensor in the middle and the Redmi branding on the bottom of the handset. The right side of the Redmi 7 houses the volume rockers and the power button while the left side is devoid of any buttons, but has the hybrid SIM card tray. On top of the device is the 3.5mm headphone jack and the IR blaster and the bottom of the handset has the micro USB port.

    The Redmi 7 measures 158.65 × 76.43 × 8.47mm and weighs 180g. The smartphone has a 3D gradient design at the back and minimal bezels on the front and a waterdrop notch which the company calls ‘Dot Notch’. It has a 6.26-inch display with a resolution of 1520 x 720 px. The device runs on the latest MIUI 10 based on top of Android 9 Pie. There is a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor with support for face unlock technology.

    Under the hood, the Redmi 7 is kitted with the Snapdragon 632 SoC which is manufactured using 14 nm fabrication process. The chipset is comprised of an octa-core CPU and Adreno 506 GPU.     Earlier this year, Redmi separated from its parent company Xiaomi as an independent brand. The company launched its first smartphone the Redmi Note 7 in China in the month of January. On the 28th of February, Redmi launched the Redmi Note 7 and its beefed-up sibling the Redmi Note 7 Pro in India which made its global debut. The company has announced that the latter will launch in China on March 18. Fresh reports claim that it won’t be the only device to be launched then, as the Redmi 7 is also presumed to make its debut at the event.

    The Redmi 7 will succeed the Redmi 6 as a budget smartphone from the company. A few days ago, specifications of the device were leaked online. According to the leaks, it will have an all-new design with a polycarbonate frame and a colourful gradient back. The display will be a 6.2 inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1520 x 720 px. There will be a waterdrop notch on the top with minimal bezels on all sides of the display. The smartphone has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner with support for face unlock technology.

    According to leaks, the Redmi 7 will run on the Snapdragon 632 SoC which is manufactured using 14 nm fabrication process. The chipset is comprised of an Octa-core CPU and Adreno 506 GPU.     The Redmi 7 will launch alongside the Redmi Note 7 Pro in China on March 18. It is also expected to soon make its way into the Indian markets. Unfortunately, the company has not revealed the price of the device but reports claim it will be available starting CNY 700 (Rs. 7,200) for the variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage; the version with 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard memory will cost CNY 800 (Rs. 8,300); and the version with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage will be priced at CNY 900 (Rs. 9,300). Pleasingly, we won’t have to wait for long as the launch of the device is imminent.

A listing on Chinese regulatory website, TENAA has revealed the specifications of the unreleased Redmi 7 which is supposed to launch soon. The smartphone will succeed the Redmi 6 which was launched last year. Going by the placing of its predecessor in companies portfolio, it will be a sub 10k smartphone will

    According to the TENAA listing, the Redmi 7 measure 158.65×76.43×8.47 mm and weighs in at 180 grams. The smartphone sports a 6.26 inch display that has a resolution of 1520 x 720 px. The device has a total of three cameras out of which two are placed on the rear while the third one is placed on the front. The dual camera setup at the rear is comprised of a 12 MP main sensor and an additional 8 MP sensor. The front facing camera of the smartphone uses an 8 MP sensor which is presumed to be housed in a waterdrop notch on the front of the display.

    The Redmi 7 is kitted with an Octa-Core CPU which is clocked at 1.8 GHz. Although the TENAA listing does not specify the precise chipset detail, going by the clock speed of the CPU, it is likely to be the Snapdragon 632 or Snapdragon 636. The smartphone is powered by a 3,900 mAh and runs on the latest Android 9.0 OS which will be skinned with MIUI. Connectivity options on the Redmi 7 include 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G VoLTE, Infrared and USB port. As of now, it is unclear whether the device will have a Micro USB port or a USB Type-C port. It also has a variety of sensors which include Gravity sensor, light sensor, distance sensor and a fingerprint sensor.

    According to the listing, the device will be available in three storage variants which are as follows:

    • 2 GB RAM + 16 GB ROM
    • 3 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM
    • 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM

    Except for the internal storage, it also supports memory expansion via a microSD card. The listing states two different memory expansion capacities, 256 GB and 512 GB. Although previously unheard from Redmi, the base variant might support only 256 GB of memory expansion. The TENAA listing does not provide any insight about the design and layout of the smartphone and it will be publicised once the device is officially announced.

    Going by both the specifications and price of its predecessor, the Redmi 7 is assumed to be a sub 8k smartphone in India. Its launch date is currently unavailable but the company is expected to soon announce it.

    Earlier this week, Xiaomi had sent out press invites for the launch of a new smartphone. The new smartphone is called the Mi Play and it is set to launch on December 24th. The company has shared a few teasers of the Mi Play which provide some information about its design.

    The display of the Mi Play has a high screen-to-body ratio with a small U shaped notch at the top. The rear of the smartphone has a gradient coloured glass back which houses the fingerprint sensor and the dual camera setup. Surprisingly, the design of Mi Play matches to that of a Xiaomi device which was leaked on TENAA. The Xiaomi smartphone with model no ‘M1901F9E/M1901F9E’, was earlier alleged to be the Redmi 7. But the listed pictures look very similar to the teasers of the Mi Play. Therefore, the leaked device could in fact be the Mi Play.
