5 Gadgets That Make Us Feel Lucky to Be a Part of the Future

Those of us who have been born in the 90s are lucky to be in the midst of a technological revolution. In fact, even prior to the 90s and as early as the 70s, cartoons like the Jetsons, depicted the future with video calling, flying cars, mobile phones and talking robots. Who would’ve thought that we were going to be witness to that, thirty years down the line?

We are living in an age where everything is portable, most things can fly and most importantly, everything is convenient. Let’s take a look at just a few gadgets (even though there’s a wide variety) that make us feel lucky to be a part of the future:

    1. Portable Single Line Printer:

The printer was first conceptualised in 1938 and the original laser printer called EARS was developed at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center beginning in 1969 and completed in November, 1971, as reported by inventors.about. However, printers were, until recently, heavy contraptions with wires and plenty of buttons.

    mini printer

Today: We have something called the Mini Mobile Robotic Printer which is just what we needed in this age. It uses a mobile phone to function, and is the size of your palm. A product of Zuta labs, this printer costs a mere 135$ (Rs.8,600 approximately) which is a small price to pay for the large convenience it is.

    2. Oculus Rift:

Physicist Willy Higinbotham invented the first “video game” as early as 1958. It was a table tennis like game and had to be played on an oscilloscope. In 1961, Steve Russell, a student of MIT, created the first computer game called ‘space wars’ after which, there was no stopping the magnanimous evolution that gaming would undergo.

The Oculus Rift headset is tested by attendees at the Eurogamer Expo at Earls Court in London.

Today: We have the Oculus Rift, the HTC vive and other Virtual Reality gadgets that don’t just allow you to play the game but actually make you a part of it. As if the amazing visuals weren’t enough, the Oculus Rift recently collaborated with Pebbles Inc to add the use of hand gestures into your gaming experience.

    3. Clock that writes the time for you:

There used to be  time where our ancestors used to use a sun dial to tell the time and even prior to that, watches were used as an ornament to ward off evil. It was cumbersome and eventually, as early as the 16th century Galileo introduced the concept of using a pendulum to tell time. In 1970, the first digital watch called the Pulsar, was introduced. It had an LED display and was naturally, a hit.

    potclock

Today: In 2014, the Potclock was announced. What is it? it is a clock that writes the time for you with a marker, on a white board. It then erases the seconds and continues to do the same with every passing second, minute and hour.It is powered by an Arduino board and the parts of the clock are 3D printed. Cool, isn’t it?

    4. Garbage bin that catches your waste:

How many times have we chucked a piece of waste paper into a bin, pretending to be Michael Jordan, as it unsuccessfully falls far away from the target? Umpteen number of times. Although, this is a rather amusing invention, one cannot miss its ingenuity. This bin catches your waste automatically so that you never miss. Imagine if India could actually get bins of a larger size that did the same thing, it would truly boost the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan.

    5. Wheelchair that can go up staircases:

    wheelchair

John Dawson of Bath, invented the wheelchair in 1783. It had two big wheels and a small one and outsold all other wheelchairs or systems that assisted the handicapped, prior to this. However, George Klein brought the Klein Drive Chair in 1953, that was the first motor wheel chair that operated electronically instead of manually. However, handicapped people continued to face difficulties like going up and down rocky terrains and even going up the staircase.

Today: Technology has made life much easier for the differently abled. They don’t need to depend on people as the ‘Topchair’ is capable of taking you safely up and down the stairs without any assistance whatsoever.

Obviously, there are numerous other inventions and gadgets that are worth adding on and are even being created as we write this post. This was just a slice of the massive variety of technologies that we are lucky enough to witness, today.

  • Oculus Rift’s Newest Gaming Addition is Set to ‘Explode’ Your Mind

Oculus Rift’s Newest Gaming Addition is Set to ‘Explode’ Your Mind

We all know that the coolest gaming cult to have begun, is the Oculus Rift, that takes virtual reality to another level. Everybody is talking about another world where one can actually be a part of an alternate reality and be the closest to feeling it. If that wasn’t amazing enough, there is more good news for gamers.

Oculus Rift will add a dynamic new game to it’s kitty called ‘Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes.’ As the name suggests, it is a virtual reality bomb disposal game and it sounds insane. The objective is to communicate with your partner(s) and try and diffuse a bomb using codes, well within time. Only one person wears the Oculus Rift and the other person is guided by description and smooth flowing communication. Naturally then, if you snooze, you lose.

Now, imagine if you could use not just your vision, but also your hands in this game? That’s right. Oculus Rift has acquired Pebbles Interfaces, which is an Israeli based firm that specialises in gesture recognition and control. This means that, if combined, the two companies will create gaming history as one might actually see hand gestures being incorporated by games and eventually, we might even rid ourselves of joysticks and consoles. Check out the video below:

Sounds futuristic enough? We can’t wait.

  • Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus Might Now Have Wireless Charging

Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus Might Now Have Wireless Charging

The Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus have already been the talk of the town, in recent times. While everyone anticipates its release into the market, the China based firm has let out yet another secret that will come as an exciting new upgrade to its devices.

Apart from the phones releasing tomorrow, which is good news enough, the Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus are likely to have wireless charging as the company revealed an image on social media sites, asking its fans to ‘take guesses’ on what is going to be unveiled tomorrow.

    mi 5

While it is clear that the Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus will be reasonably priced (not more than 30,000 thousand rupees), this new speculated feature will surely add a competitive edge to the devices as we saw Samsung playing its wireless charging card earlier, this year.

The Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus are touted as the most anticipated phones of the year as there have been many rumours and leaks regarding their specs as well as the release date. Xiaomi released the Mi 4i, this May and sold a staggering 40,000 units within 15 seconds due to its raging popularity.

Hence, we are presumably excited about the launch of the Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus. Let’s see how Xiaomi fares with the coming of these devices.

  • Jott Messenger : How to Text Your Friends Without Using Wi-fi or Data

Jott Messenger : How to Text Your Friends Without Using Wi-fi or Data

Most of us got our first phones when we were 16 or maybe 14 (if you were lucky). A recent study proved that 88% of teenagers these days actually get their phones between ages 13 to 17. Naturally, no teen is spotted without his or her mobile phone today as they are active on social networking sites and are constantly texting their peers, whether in school or outside.

In India, most schools don’t permit phones within school campus but in the US, it’s okay to carry your device and be logged in all day. However, what happens when you can’t text due to limited balance or an improper data plan? You get Jott!

    jott

Jott is the perfect app for Junior high schoolers and high schoolers as it functions without the internet or a data plan. Sounds ideal? Yes, this app lets you chat with anyone within a closed network and within a 100 foot radius of the school campus. This means you can stay connected all day, whether its social or just exchanging notes.

Jared Allgood, creator of Jott has managed to push the app in the top 75 apps being used by iOS and this is no easy feat. Jott already has a huge user base of half a million users, as of March and is growing from strength to strength with 15,000-20,000 users joining the app, everyday. So how does this app work?

    jott 3

It works using the help of a mesh network “that operates on Bluetooth low energy or using a router that can reach within 100 feet of each user,” according to Techcrunch. This is different from sending a normal text messages that uses the help of cell towers to convey your text. Thus, anyone within close proximity, that is, a 100 feet can be easily accessed and spoken to.

Make Friends Within Your School or Any Closed Network

    jott 2

Jott only allows you to be a part of the network, if you share your real phone number. This actually benefits students because a lot of teens find it tough to talk face to face, so they can find out their class mate’s details via the school network and then approach them. Also, even if you don’t want to use it to get a pretty girl’s number or ask someone out, you can use it for studious purposes. You can actually get that one nerdy classmates number who will send you the whole years class notes and thus save you from failing your finals. It does sound very cool, indeed.

    No Security?

    jott 1

The internet is rampant with cyber bullying and teenagers being at the impressionable age they are, can often be harassed through these types of apps. That’s why Jott stands out. It has a strong security and privacy settings where in, those who are a part of school networks (that are closed) must create an account with their actual name and age and verify that they actually go to the school, they’re claiming to be a part of. If you do give a fake ID, other students will call your bluff because they will know for sure and you will be immediately removed from the network.

If this wasn’t enough, Jott also has disappearing messages and screenshot detection just like Snapchat. Therefore, there is no room for disaster and anyone using it is efficiently safeguarded.

Jott had been tested and tried by Allgood, first in a set of schools until it started majorly trending and reached the phenomenal following it has today. According to Niche data, about 87% of teens text daily, compared to 61% of those who say they use Facebook. Therefore, Allgood has actually used this data to his advantage and created an app that will further simplify and revolutionise texting. We suggest you try it out today as it is available on all iOS and Android devices and can be used on your iPods and iPads as well.

  • Android Might be Just What BlackBerry Needs to Get Back in the Game

Android Might be Just What BlackBerry Needs to Get Back in the Game

BlackBerry was synonymous with BBM and had the reputation of being a reliable business phone. This  had loyalists from all over the world, tied to its device, despite all the ups and downs the company went through. However, the market soon saw a wave of smartphone companies like Apple, Samsung and Motorola, which ultimately washed away the resilient giant.

Sales dropped and profits dwindled because let’s face it, there are more options now, that overshadowed BBM and we also underwent a touch screen revolution. Thus, Blackberry has allegedly come up with a solution to get back on track. We might see them collaborating with Android in a bid to increase revenues and turn a new leaf.

    Blackberry Q10 42

BlackBerry is known for its strong security system and that was something that Android was lacking. Therefore, the collaboration will benefit both these parties. Yes, this means that BlackBerry will have to vouch for not just their own platform but also for Android. However, the gain is more than the loss they might go through. Reuters reported:

“From the standpoint of marketing, this is a great way for BlackBerry to get visibility. It really doesn’t hurt them much, and the upside is high,” said Rob Enderle, who runs technology consulting firm Enderle Group.

BlackBerry has been focussing on its software and device management system as its market share dropped to less that 1% due to its low demand of the devices. In order to execute this turnaround then, the company will have to come up with a strong and efficient device, that will be able to collaborate with Android. “BlackBerry doesn’t have much to lose. There’s little downside and they just need one hit phone to justify the handset business,” said Brian Colello, Morningstar analyst.

    blackberry q10

The company has said that it is ready to have a test run with Android. Its upcoming device, the BES12 will be able to secure not just BlackBerry devices, but also others that run on Android, iOS and Windows operating systems. This attribute should impress potential corporate and government clients. Ramon Llamas, an analyst with technology research firm IDC told Reuters:

“In order for BES12 to succeed it has to be viewed by all as platform agnostic, and what better way to demonstrate that other than by doing it yourself.”

BlackBerry has a history of delivering outdated hardware at a premium cost. While the Android partnership will help, BlackBerry needs to ensure it stays with the times and gives customers a product which is worth their money.

Let’s hope this change spells good fortune to the company that once created its own era and revolution.

  • Here’s Why Twitter is Breaking Free From the 140-Character Restriction

Here’s Why Twitter is Breaking Free From the 140-Character Restriction

Twitter had added direct messaging service (DMS) but it was always restricted to just 140-characters. Now, frequent Twitter users will be happy to know that the social network is finally putting an end to the restriction, and making it 10,000 characters as opposed to just 140. Thus DMS will function like any other regular instant messaging service, effective this July.

In a rather smart move, they announced:

We’ve done a lot to improve Direct Messages over the past year and have much more exciting work on the horizon. One change coming in July that we want to make you aware of now (and first!) is the removal of the 140 character limit in Direct Messages.

It is a welcoming change as having a limit over DMS was more of a nuisance than a boon. However, while the DMS will no longer have a restriction, public tweets will continue to be within the 140 character limit.

    twitter-profile-1024x681

This comes as a great relief to the social networking giant because it might finally give them a chance to compete with other instant messaging services like WhatsApp and Facebook and even add to their user base.

In a short span of time, Facebook’s standalone app, Messenger has grown immensely. Recently Facebook announced that the Messenger service already has a staggering 700 Million monthly active user base. It added a 100 Million users in the past three months. While Facebook’s new app’s numbers are growing at an unfathomable rate, Twitter is currently stuck at a mere 302 Million Active users. Back in April, even WhatsApp had announced that it had crossed the 800 Million monthly active user mark.

This change might give Twitter a fair chance to compete. Also, according to Forbes, people spend 86% of their Twitter time via smart phones, this will therefore, be further enhanced as people will now be able to have long chats on the social handle, without even needing to ‘follow’ one another. Naturally, this will increase Twitter’s fortunes as well.

Along with this, Twitter is planning a few other updates and changes that will further improve the performance of the site. We hope to hear more good news soon. Watch this space for more.

  • Xiaomi Announces a Major Price Cut on Mi4’s 64 GB Variant

Xiaomi Announces a Major Price Cut on Mi4’s 64 GB Variant

It seems to be the sale season in the tech world. Recently Motorola reduced the price of its line of smartphones, which has been followed by OnePlus (albeit not for India.) Now Xiaomi has announced that they’re following suit. That’s right, the Xiaomi Mi 4 will now be available for 4,000 rupees lesser. The price will now be Rs.19,999 instead of Rs. 23,999. Which is a substantial drop.

These companies are now getting ready to bring in their fresher 2015 line-up of devices. OnePlus will be launching the OnePlus Two soon, and the 3rd Gen of Motorola devices are also on their way. That brings up the question, which smartphone is Xiaomi planning on bringing to India now? The company is evidently clearing out stock to make room for another smartphone’s arrival. We’d vote for the Xiaomi Mi Note, the company’s current flagship.

Coming back to the Mi4. The smartphone known for its exemplary features and boasts a sleek look. Hence, fans will be happy to hear that the Mi 4, that too 64 GB, is going to be become even more affordable. The specifications includes Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5 GHz, a 3GB RAM and 64GB Flash. • Apple Music Arrives in India on 30th June; Pricing Revealed

Apple Music Arrives in India on 30th June; Pricing Revealed

The world was recently abuzz with the recently held WWDC’ 15 in San Francisco and we now have more great news for Apple fans, especially in India. That’s right, Apple Music is set to launch in India by June 30th. The company at the event had stated that it would be released 100 other countries worldwide, now recent reports claim that India will be included in the list.

We love music, and the new Apple Music service puts an incredible experience at every fan’s fingertips, all the ways people love enjoying music come together in one app — a revolutionary streaming service, live worldwide radio and an exciting way for fans to connect with artists.”

We first brought you the news that Apple Music will be launched and that it will be a universal app catering to three things:

    • Apple Music: We will have access to all kinds of music, whether from iTunes or ripped from CDs.
    • Apple Connect: This is a way for fans and artists to connect by sharing videos, lyrics, backstage videos etc.
    • Apple Radio: We will be able to stream live music and have access to all kinds of tunes, on a global platform.

    apple music

In addition to this, Siri will be synced in with the App and we will be able to ask Siri to play our favourite tracks or even find songs of a particular genre. The statement released by Apple press contact stated:

Siri is also dedicated to helping you enjoy great music and will help you have fun with Apple Music. Ask Siri to, “Play me the best songs from 1994,”  or “What was the number one song in February 2011?”

While all this seemed too good to be true, we in India often read posts like these and felt disappointed with the fact that this might either not come to India at all, or might come in really late. Therefore, you would be pleased to know that this time around, India will have Apple Music by June 30th, at Rs.120 and Rs.180 (family pack) a month.

This spells good news for Indian users as Spotify still hasn’t managed to make its way to the Indian market. This doesn’t matter anymore, though. Apple Music will really change the face of streaming music and will fit in every users requirements. Jimmy Iovine, Record Producer, stated:

“Apple Music is really going to move the needle for fans and artists. Online music has become a complicated mess of apps, services and websites. Apple Music brings the best features together for an experience every music lover will appreciate.”

    We couldn’t agree more and we look forward to June 30th, eagerly.[tw-button size=”small” background=”#07ABE2″ color=”” target=”_blank”]Source[/tw-button] [tw-button size=”medium” background=”#07ABE2″ color=”” target=”_blank” link=”https://twitter.com/jayesh”]Twitter[/tw-button]

  • Apple’s Next iDevice Might Feature a Front Camera Flash

Apple’s Next iDevice Might Feature a Front Camera Flash

The selfie has gained social, political and global recognition in the past two years, given its high popularity and almost contagious qualities, Apple may be coming up with a plan to up the selfie quotient in the next iPhone or tablet.

Hamza Sood, a developer, said that the phone or tablet will have, not just a front facing camera flash, but also the ability to record 1080p videos along with recording slow-motion videos in 720p. Referring to the codes, Sood also derived that one might be able to take panorama shots using the front facing camera.

So far, all the features that we mentioned, are only present in the rear cameras of smartphones. But with the new set of devices, Apple hopes to makes the selfie game, even stronger. Although these reports seem frivolous, Sood was previously right in recognising that Apple was coming out with fingerprint recognition two months before it actually came to the markets. He also identified slow motion shooting, before it finally made an appearance in the iPhone 5S.

    iPhone 6 Plus 0

Even though the iPhone 6s is expected to arrive later this year, we’ve already heard several rumours about the upcoming device.  As reported earlier by an analyst from KGI Securities, the forthcoming iPhone 6s will sport a bumped up camera of 12MP. Powered by a next-gen A9 processor, 2GB RAM will equip the device with newfangled features like Force Touch. Some of the changes the ‘iPhone 6s’ is said to include is a new design using an improved casing material and a newly resurrected inner design. One more microphone is said to be added near the new handset’s speakers in an attempt to improve sound quality. It is also likely that Apple will release two variants of the iPhone 6s.

While we don’t know if the phone camera, that is slated to be bigger and better, will actually succeed, we hope to be clearer in September, when the announcement might be made.

  • What We Can Expect From iOS 9

What We Can Expect From iOS 9

With the much awaited Apple Developers Conference that is ready to kickstart tonight (10:30 pm IST) the world awaits the unravelling of new features and software updates. While we wait for the formal announcements, here is a list of 7 updates that we might get to see in iOS 9.

    Are you ready?

    1. Proactive to Stay True to its Name

    siri-ios-7

Siri and the Spotlight search are set to undergo changes that will make them ‘Proactive,’ which is currently what the update is tentatively named. It is touted to become an extremely efficient personal secretary. According MacWorld, the update will be able to “offer a range of additional information and features based on user habits and intelligent contextual prediction.”

This means that Proactive’s interface will firstly, be able to open from the left of the home screen and will also come in the form of a pull down which is how Spotlight opens right now. Furthermore, it will access information that is most suited to your needs based on the kind of apps you use on a daily basis or depending on what time you use them. For example, if you wake up in the morning and access Facebook or Instagram or if you browse through it, before you go to bed, Proactive will have a small bubble that will appear on your home screen, that will allow you to access a particular app/ contact etc in just one tap. It not only serves as a good reminder, but also keeps a track of your everyday needs.

    2. iCloud

    icloud

[pullquote_right] iCloud Drive syncing should lead to faster syncing between the apps as well as stronger security (thanks to the system’s end-to-end data encryption) [/pullquote_right]

Apple will be syncing all IMAP-based apps from iCloud instead of the IMAP back end. While it hasn’t been clear as to which apps will be synced, one can assume it will include Notes, Reminders and Calendar. Macworld says, “iCloud Drive syncing should lead to faster syncing between the apps as well as stronger security (thanks to the system’s end-to-end data encryption).”

Apple also plans to make iCloud easily accessible by introducing a new iCloud Drive app for users. This app would let you directly get to your stored files and folders and will be a huge convenience. While Mac owners can access the App through its finder, iPhone and iPad users currently don’t have the easier way out, yet.

    3. ‘Rootless’ to get Ruthless

Redmond Pie reports that this system “is aimed at preventing even administrator-level users from gaining access to certain file systems on an iPhone, iPad or Mac

This might be terrible news for jail breakers but doesn’t make a difference to normal users. The security system called ‘Rootless’ is set to become extremely strict and will not allow the device to be easily broken into. Therefore, if you were planning on  buying an Apple device from anywhere outside India and unlocking it in our country, think twice. It’s going to be very tough to do so.

Rootless is expected to be announced at the WWDC 2015 but, it will be a while before it shows up as an update.

    4. ‘Swift’ Language Programming to be Updated

    swift

Although this news is more for app developers, we might eventually benefit from this update too. Swift that was introduced in iOS 8 is speculated to embed code libraries into the iOS itself rather than into Swift based apps. While, this might mean a larger iOS file to install, it will also avoid the duplicating of data and therefore create more space on your device.

    5. HomeKit

    apple home automation

We expect to see the Homekit app which is likely to be called ‘Home’, and will operate on iOS 9. Thus, we will be able to control all our home appliances without looking at them and will be able to turn off our electricity while sitting at work. This is going to turn out to be an extremely useful component to have on your Apple device and we can’t wait for it to be formerly executed.

    6. Public Transport Direction in Maps

    apple maps

After the criticism that Apple maps faced, the Redmond giant has done a lot to try and improve their Maps as well as give tough competition to its daunting rival; Google Maps. Even after that though, directions and durations through public transport have been unavailable. Now, with iOS 9, we are likely to see the inclusion of Public Transport in Apple Maps. This service  will witness a lag in countries other than the USA.

    7. Contact Availability

In the past there has been backlash about the ‘Delivered’ and ‘Read’ option, thanks to iMessage. If that wasn’t enough, we now might get to see a particular contact’s phone status (that is, Switched Off, Airplane Mode) as well as the availability of our friends and families, who also own iPhones. Don’t worry too much, this is said to be optional for both parties.

Along with the updates mentioned above, we also expect to see the iOS 9 to have more speed and stability, a problem which some users previously struggled with with the previous iteration. While we continue to speculate, watch this space for more information and updates on the WWDC 2015.

  • Microsoft Reveals the Much-Anticipated Windows 10 Pricing

It’s official. After much speculation and anticipation, the prices of the new and improved Windows 10 has been revealed, as of yesterday. While we all knew that the Windows upgrade was going to be free, the pricing for people who did not have the OS or the licensed version of it, was unclear.

[pullquote_left] The upgrade from a Windows 10 Home pack to a Pro Pack will just cost $99 [/pullquote_left]

However, Microsoft, through Neowin, finally announced the prices and the date of release. The cost of Windows 10 Home will be $109 while Windows Pro will cost $199. Incidentally, there was been no hike in price since the Windows 8.1 version came out, which is a pleasant surprise. The upgrade from a Windows 10 Home pack to a Pro Pack will just cost $99. The system will be ready for upgrade on the 29th of July.

While there was a lot of speculation over the weekend with Newegg reporting a price leak, it has been confirmed that the prices put up by the website, initially, were incorrect.

    Start-screen-in-Windows-10

Now that we know the price and date, It is important to know a few more things about the Windows 10 upgrade:

    • The upgrade is available for free, for a year, after which all Windows 7 and 8.1 users, will have to purchase the upgrade. So do avail of this offer, soon.
    • You can either download the OS on your Windows 7 and 8.1 versions or buy the new PC.
    • All updates and fixes will come at no additional cost once you’ve downloaded it.
    • They have a ‘reservation link option’ which means you can preload the software and it will install, as soon as it’s ready.
    • All non-genuine Windows users will not get a free upgrade and people using Windows OEM (Other Equipment Manufacturers) will be offered attractive discounts, as per the company’s statement.

With the revelation of prices, the Redmond-based beast hopes to secure its fortunes in what can be the largest sales of PCs and upgrades that will be witnessed. As per Neowin, the company expects users to avail of the free upgrade that is available for one year and hence is targeting 1 billion installs of Windows 10, in the next 2-3 years. While the task seems daunting at the moment, it’s definitely not an impossible feat.

  • Here is Why Uber has Become Uber Safe

Here is Why Uber has Become Uber Safe

It is shocking when one of the largest cab services in the world suffer a blow like Uber did in 2014, in India. The rape unnerved thousands and the company’s fortunes sank in a country where they had the largest following, after the US.

    Uber-card-in-Google-Maps-730x561

A year later, Uber has recovered and has come a long way from having a marred reputation. They recently revised their privacy policies and have resolved to tighten their riders security. There’s no room for worry because here’s why Uber just got safer and hence, cooler.

We care deeply about the privacy of our riders and drivers.  It’s why we’re always looking at ways to improve our practices.

[pullquote_right] the driver can access your personal data and past rides only if you wish. [/pullquote_right] Recently, Uber’s Katherine Tassi, who manages the Counsel of Data Privacy at Uber Technologies, announced that Uber has doubled the size of their privacy team and tightened the leash on their policies. That means three important benefits:

    • Uber will now make sharing background information of the rider, optional. This means that the driver can access your personal data and past rides only if you wish.
    • The texts that have been shared between the driver and rider will be accessible to the company so there is a limited scope of malicious activities.
    • It will also have an option to share your contacts with the app. This means that your friends and family can receive exciting new offers, if you wish to give Uber that information.

With their privacy and security in place, the app is likely to be updated on July 15th.

Unfortunately, India isn’t going to experience the other updates that have taken place. Uber has partnered with Spotify to bring your type of music to your cab ride, when you’re party hopping or just heading home on a regular day. It would’ve been great to have this feature as one can just connect their Spotify account to the music tab of their Uber app and listen to their favourite tracks, instead of balmy item numbers or loud Radio Jockeys. Hopefully, Uber will develop an alternative for their growing number of riders in India.

Lastly, many might not know that one can only book an Uber minutes or half an hour before they want a ride. This is very tricky for nervous travellers who want to be organised and book a cab at least a day in advance. You don’t want to bank on it if you have an early morning flight to catch. Nevertheless, if you do trust Uber showing up on time and if you’re a disorganised traveller, this feature wouldn’t bother you too much.

  • Here’s How to Fight the ‘Bug’ Infestation That Has Taken Over iPhones

Here’s How to Fight the ‘Bug’ Infestation That Has Taken Over iPhones

As of yesterday, the internet was in a frenzy with people saying how fed up they were with a code that shuts down their iPhones, Macs and Apple Watches. The hardy giant that is known for its immunity against any virus, witnessed an obstinate bug take over its OS.

The ‘Unicode of Death’ as it is called, is said to have a code that contains Marathi and Arabic symbols. When sent as a text message, it shuts down your iPhone, causing it to reboot without prior notice and even crashes apps. The bug is so effective that it can even work when the message shows up on your home screen. code

The crashing seems to occur in iOS 8.1, iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3 versions and can be transferred from Android to iOS.

We are aware of an iMessage issue caused by a specific series of unicode characters and we will make a fix available in a software update.

While Apple issued a statement acknowledging the problem, they also gave tips for a temporary solution. The company even promised that an upcoming software update will fix the problem permanently. Until then, here are the official instructions from the company:

    1. Ask Siri to “read unread messages.”
    2. Use Siri to reply to the malicious message. After you reply, you’ll be able to open Messages again.
    3. In Messages, swipe left to delete the entire thread. Or tap and hold the malicious message, tap More, and delete the message from the thread.

9to5Mac, an online magazine dedicated to Apple, also suggested three more ways to combat the bug. Keep yourself armed with these tips:

    1. Tell the offender to immediately send another message thereby cancelling the effect of the initial strand.

    2. Send yourself a message via Siri, the share sheet or your Mac.

    3. Some users said that sending a photo via the photo app can allow them to access the message history and delete the conversation.

Most people are using the code as a revenge tool against their ex-boyfriends and girlfriends and some are enjoying pranking their friends. While the problem seems to annoy some, it’s leaving others amused.
