Top 6 Things We Can Expect from Apple in 2015

With the two new iPhone 6 models breaking sales records, the arrival of iMacs with 4k display, and of course, the imminent release of the Apple Watch; 2014 was an exciting year for Apple fanatics. The Cupertino-based tech giant managed to stay stuck in it position on the front row.

Now we’re waiting for what’s in store for us in the next 12 months. Here are some of the first few rumours indicating the things we can expect:

    1. iPad Max

    ipad mini 3

While Apple has never confirmed the existence of this product, a 12.9-inch iPad is almost a sure bet for 2015. The only glitch, it might not be intended as a consumer product. If Apple goes ahead with this plan, 12.9-inch iPad means that the company will not not just be after the tablet market, but the PC market as well. It’s not always easy to convince businesses to replace Windows PCs with Macs, but adding a large-screen iPad that can work in the office and on the road (and one that can now run Office Apps), may not be as hard.

    2. The iPhone 6s Mini

    iPhone 6 Plus 12

In previous years Apple has been consistent in its approach to upgrading the iPhone. Year 2014 saw a redesign of the casing, and the introduction of the first Apple Phablet, so we’d expect the 2015 models to keep that exterior and instead increase the performance by upgrading key components.

Also, several new rumours making the rounds say that the company is planning to launch a mini version of its iPhone 6 dubbed ‘iPhone 6s Mini’. According to recent reports by Apple Insider, the design of the rumoured mini smartphone will match that of iPhone 5s and the specifications with iPhone 6. In other words, a return to the prior model’s 4-inch display size.

    3. Music streaming

    Beats

It’s been almost six months since Apple bought over Beats, but despite all the new hardware and initiatives like Apple Pay, no one seems to know what Apple’s doing with the company. We expect Apple to launch new service, backed up by Dr. Dre’s team, to combat the decreasing sales of the iTunes music streaming service.

    4. Apple Watch

    Apple watch Features Design 15

The Apple Watch is the only device that Apple has officially confirmed is coming next year. Apple’s newest smartwatch enters a marketplace in 2015, that feels competitive. The Watch will need to prove its worth against the already established range of Android and Microsoft powered alternatives. The new Apple Watch will arrive in three models – Watch, Watch Sport, and Watch Edition, which will also be available in large and small screen size options. Watch apps will be heavily reliant on the iPhone and will deliver information through basic “Glances” or actionable notifications.

    5. Refreshed Apple TV

    Apple TV 1080p

One device that was conspicuous by its absence at the 2014 product launch, was the Apple TV. However, earlier this year, there were persistent rumors that Apple was planning on expanding and improving the capabilities of its media streaming device. While the Apple TV might seem like a forgotten device, it’s worth noting that the company has sold more than twenty million units, making Apple over a billion dollars in 2013 alone. This might seem small when compared to iPads and iPhones, but it’s still a highly profitable area. We hope to see some change in the Apple TV in 2015.  There have been rumours that Apple will open up the App Store to the Apple TV too.

    6. Enterprise Focus

    microsoft-office-ipad

Five months ago, Apple stunned the tech community by announcing a long-term enterprise partnership with IBM. The idea was to bring mobile to business in a way that big businesses, even entire industries, could manage and leverage it to their advantage. It is said that Apple outlined a strategy that takes what’s best about Apple products and, essentially, combines it with skills from IBM. A few that the Cupertino-based company lacks, such as direct sales and integration of custom apps.

Revisiting 2014 : 10 Most Epic Gadgets Released in 2014

    10. YotaPhone 2

    YotaPhone 2_Photo_5

YotaPhone 2 was officially announced earlier this month and is already setting benchmarks when it comes to innovation. The YotaPhone 2 has got some considerable improvements over its predecessor. It features a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED display and a 4.7-inch QHD e-Ink touchscreen, which is way better than the 4.3-inch screen of the previous model. The e-Ink paper display on the smartphone is similar to the e-Ink display we find on Amazon’s Kindle readers. It shows notifications, clock, weather, and is great for reading books and other readables in an eye friendly display.

    9. Google Cardboard

Google Cardboard is a fold-out cardboard smartphone mount that, when combined with lenses, a magnet, a piece of hook-and-loop fastener, rubber band and held against the face, affords a virtual reality experience. Impressive, right? This is a DIY project from Google can can be made right at your place with minimal investment. In order to build it, all you need is a pair of lenses with a 40mm focal distance to keep the phone’s screen in focus some magnets, velcro and a rubber band. Thats it, with this tiny tinkering, you’ll be ready to hit the virtual reality experience. And if you don’t want to take the efforts of making one, you can always find ready made Cardboard headset for just $20-$40.

    8. Vibso headphones

    VIBSO-headphones-by-Renaud-Defrancesco_dezeen_1

Build by designer Renaud Defrancesco, Vibso headband is made of a transparent acrylic glass and sends music vibrations across its surface to the user’s ears. The VIBSO headphones play music via Bluetooth and has a vibrating electromagnet that is hidden under an opaque plastic cover on top of the head and helps create the sound for the wearer. The electromagnet works like a speaker and has a connecting element that causes a membrane to vibrate and create sounds. The membrane, in this case, is made in a two-mm-thick transparent acrylic glass. Defrancesco used acrylic glass because it transmits sounds well and is flexible and easy to form.

    7. Epson Wireless Workforce WF-100

    epson-wf-100-0

Touted as the world’s smallest and lightest mobile printer yet, the WF-100 comes with built-in wireless and Wi-Fi direct capabilities to hook up to your laptop, tablet or any Android phones. The printer uses a rechargeable battery that charges via a  USB port. It can print both A4 as well as 4X6 inch photos. It prints at the speed of 6.7 pages in a minute for black and 3.8 pages per minute for color.

    6. LIX – 3D Printing Pen

    focus_lix_3D

London-based startup LIX created the smallest 3D printing pen in the world, a device that enables users to doodle in the air. Milled from aluminum and measuring 164mm x 14mm, it allows users to make objects in just a few seconds, including calligraphy, accessories and one-off prototypes. With functionalities similar to 3D printers, the USB port chargeable LIX pen quickly melts and cools colored plastic, which enables the pen to create rigid and freestanding structures on demand. Drawing in the air, now its cool or what?

    5.  DJI Phantom 2 Vision+

    dji-phantom-2-vision-quadcopter-[3]-703-p

The DJI Phantom 2 Vision+Quadcopter comes with a GPS based navigation system, flies for up to 25 minutes, and has the capability to take still photos and shoot streaming video. The $1,200 price tag may make you lose the interest, but this drone is known of its exceptional flying capabilities and its powerful camera.

    4. Blackphone

    The Blackphone

The Blackphone is a smartphone developed by SGP Technologies, that provides encryption for phone calls, emails, texts and internet browsing. SGP Technologies is a joint venture between the makers of GeeksPhone and Silent Circle. Blackphone’s Security Center in PrivatOS gives control over app permissions, such as the bundled Silent Phone and Silent Text services that encrypt communications so no one can eavesdrop on voice, video and text calls.

    3.  GoPro Hero4 Black

    GoPro_Hero_3_Black_Edition

GoPro’s latest offering, the Hero4 lineup builds on the legacy and comes with great new upgrades. On the top of the line-up is the Hero4 Black, which comes at a price of $499. It shoots 4K video at up to 30 frames per second, giving you some incredible eye-popping visuals. Apart from that, it shoots Full HD (1080p) at 120 frames per second so you can play with some sweet slow-motion action shots. And of course, it offers 12-megapixel photos for folks who want a selfie at an epic destination.

    2. Oculus Rift Developers Kit

The Oculus Rift headset is tested by attendees at the Eurogamer Expo at Earls Court in London.

The Oculus Rift DK 2 is an amazing piece of hardware, and while it’s far from ready for consumer use, it delivers a highly compelling experience that shows exactly how easy it is to get lost in virtual reality. From a gaming perspective, there’s no doubt that this is one of the most interesting new pieces of hardware. Oculus claims that the display works at 75 Hz, which is above the standard 60 Hz refresh rate. On their website, Oculus calls its display a low persistence OLED display, to eliminate motion blur and judder, two of the biggest contributors to simulator sickness. The 5.7 inch Note 3 display might address the pixilation issue and probably save people from the day long motion sickness they feel after wearing these headgears.

    1. Apple Watch

    Apple watch Features Design 15

Among other things, 2014 marked the return of Apple. Its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus rollout was usual – full of giddy anticipation and excitement. The two models did not just break sales records globally, but they put Apple back on the front row. Apple also launched another product which is probably 2015’s most awaited device called the ‘Apple Watch’ (not iWatch). Apple is entering a completely new market category by bringing out the first Apple Watch. This smartwatch, expected to be out in early 2015, will come in three variations – Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and the Apple Watch Edition. The wearable will be compatible with iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, 6 and 6 Plus.

  • Despite Several Hiccups, Xiaomi Manages to Sell 1 Million Smartphones in India

Despite Several Hiccups, Xiaomi Manages to Sell 1 Million Smartphones in India

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi claims to have sold 1 million smartphones off the virtual shelves of Flipkart, its exclusive retail partner in the country. The company started selling its products in July, which means that in less than 6 months it has crossed the 1 million mark.

Xiaomi India Head, Manu Kumar Jain has announced this news via Twitter, commenting that the company crossed the one million mark this December (without specifying a date). The Chinese manufacturer, which is also known as China’s Apple, entered the Indian market only with its Mi3 smartphone. It was soon followed by Redmi Note and Redmi 1S, along with Mi power banks and earphones.

All the devices have done exceptionally well in the Indian market despite the company’s much-criticised flash sale strategy. The recent ban of the company from India may have affected their sales, however, it seems the company is doing fine considering the latest figures. Recently the ban was lifted, and this saw the company bring back the Redmi 1S on sale along with an announcement about Redmi Note 4G’s arrival.

  • Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Meets PM Modi to Discuss the Digital India Project

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Meets PM Modi to Discuss the Digital India Project

Narendra Modi has a long list of high-profile guests flying over to India to meet him. The recent addition to the list was Microsoft’s Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella.

Nadella after meeting the PM at his office on Friday commented, “it’s always fantastic for me personally to be in India and the conversation I had with the minister was wide ranging,”

Nadella is the third major tech executive to meet PM Modi, after Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. While it is largely being dubbed as a personal visit for the India-born chief executive of the American software giant, he was also supposed to address Microsoft’s employees in India on Friday.

Earlier in the day Nadella met PM Narendra Modi and communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. “I have an aspiration that in this mobile and cloud world, we can empower every individual citizen of India and every business organization and institution in India to be able to try with new technology. So, I am looking forward to be a part of both the Digital India and Make in India,” he said.

One of the major highlight of this high-profile meeting was the talks between Nadella and telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad where he urged the telecom minister to allow Microsoft to pilot its ‘White-Fi’ technology to provide internet connectivity in remote villages in the country.

Microsoft India, since last month, has been seeking approvals to deploy a project that will enable Internet connectivity using ‘White Space’ spectrum that is currently used for television transmission by Doordarshan. White space technology has previously been deployed in South Africa, Ghana, and the UK, although to this point, white space broadband hasn’t been deployed at a commercially meaningful scale.

This was the second courtesy call of the Microsoft CEO to PM Narendra Modi. Nadella met the Prime Minister earlier during his first India visit after taking charge as boss of the top software company.

  • Revisiting 2014 : Top 10 Social Media Highlights of the Year

Revisiting 2014 : Top 10 Social Media Highlights of the Year

Well, it was quite a year for social media. People posted close to 500 million tweets per day, Ellen clicked a selfie, Queen of England photobombed a stranger and Kim Kardashian attempted to break the internet. Needless to say, a lot went down this year.

We are listing top 10 social media highlights of the year 2014.

    1. Ellen’s Oscar Selfie

This picture was taken by actor Bradley Cooper and featured some of the world’s most recognised faces. The selfie clicked during this year’s Academy Awards included Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey. It was retweeted on Twitter more than 2 million times by the time the ceremony was over, causing the microblogging website to briefly collapse.

    2. Yo!

    yo-app

This app’s sole function was to send the user’s friends the word ‘yo’ as a text and audio notification. Since its release, Yo has been downloaded over 3 million times and has over 100 million Yo’s sent in one day. The app had managed to reached number 3 spot on the iOS App Store, but has been dropping ranks since. Yo went viral within days, causing the app to crash a number of times. Critics have shunned it as nonsensical, however, some say its simplicity is what made it super popular.

    3. WhatsApp Blue Ticks Cause a Frenzy

    WhatsApp2

Few months back, WhatsApp added an unnecessary feature in the form of blue check marks. These indicated that the recipient had read the message. Earlier, in the interest of privacy, WhatsApp added the choice to conceal the ‘last seen’ notification that informs the other party when that person was last available on the messaging platform. Same happened with the new ‘blue tick’ feature. The instant messaging app quickly did some damage-control and added the option to hide ‘Read Receipts’ feature.

    4. Stranger Kissing

First kisses are awkward. And scary. And uncomfortable. And if you’re lucky, it can be romantic enough to make your knees wobble. Los Angeles-based filmmaker Tatia Pilieva, along with Wren Studio, created a short video by asking 20 strangers to kiss for the first time on camera. The result was a candid look at love, romance and chemistry. The sexy advert inspired plenty of parodies.

    5. #AlexfromTarget

An Internet meme of a young Target employee bagging items took the Web by storm. He became a viral sensation after thousands of teens tweeted a photo of him working at Target. A photo of the handsome young man, which appears to have been taken without his consent, exploded on Twitter, prompting various publications from BuzzFeed to Washington Post to cover the Internet’s latest obsession.

    6. Kim Kimkardashian’s Attempt to Break the Internet

Paper magazine’s winter issue, with the cover shot of Kim Kardashian by Jean-Paul Goude, set out to #BreakTheInternet.  She didn’t succeed, but she did have everyone talking about the revealing shoot.

    7. CIA Joins Twitter

The Central Intelligence Agency made its Twitter debut on 6th June with this cheeky tweet. Their first tweet was shared more than 50,000 times in its first hour.

    8. Mutant Spider Dog

This ‘spider dog’ is actually just a cute little pup dressed in a spider costume. But try telling that to the poor victim of this terrifying prank. This Polish prank video starring a “mutant giant spider-dog” was the top trending video this year, according to YouTube, which uses its own methodology blending views, comments, shares and other activity to come up with its annual rundown.

    9. PewDiePie – King of Youtube

PewDiePie, a 25-year-old Swedish called Felix Kjellberg whose channel is the most viewed on YouTube (with 32 million subscribers, and 4.6 million Twitter followers,) rose to prominence by commenting on video games as he plays them. He appeared on the TV show South Park this year, while a June article in the Wall Street Journal suggested he was making $4 million a year from the adverts attached to his videos. He is also said to be very influential, his videos about the Skate 3 game saw the 2010 title rise back into the top 20.

    10. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West  Wedding Picture

      ????   ???? ???????????? Kim Kardashian West (@kimkardashian)

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding photo made Instagram history by attracting 2.4 million likes – the most ever received by the social media platform. Kim Kardashian, who has 22 million followers on the social networking site, posted the photo of herself kissing new husband Kanye West in front of their wall of flowers back in May. She captioned it with a simple diamond ring emoji.

  • Apple Might Bring Out a Mini Version of the iPhone 6 in 2015

Apple Might Bring Out a Mini Version of the iPhone 6 in 2015

The 2014 launch of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus brought out the whole new design philosophy in Apple’s offerings. Earlier, the company had stuck to the smaller 4-inch screen size. Now it seems like Apple is further experimenting with different screen sizes; the new rumours making the rounds say that the company is planning to launch a mini version of its iPhone dubbed ‘iPhone 6s Mini’.

According to recent reports by Apple Insider, the specifications of the rumoured mini smartphone will match that of iPhone 5s and the specifications with iPhone 6. In other words, a return to the prior model’s 4-inch display size.

Apple Insider, citing a note issued by Timothy Arcuri, an analyst with Cowen and Company, to the investors suggests that Apple may launch a new 4-inch iPhone variant in 2015, which will be called iPhone 6s mini. The smartphone will join the current generation screen sizes of 4.7- inch and 5.5-inch.

The publication also noted that Arcuri, in the past, has a mixed track record on Apple iPhone rumors. In January 2014, the analyst correctly predicted some details of the iPhone 6. However, his prediction about a powerful processor for the iPhone 6 Plus turned out to be incorrect.

If the rumors are true, the new iPhone 6s is more likely to replace iPhone 5c as the company’s low-end offering. Being a low-end phone, the iPhone 6s Mini is also expected to have low-cost internals to keep the price low.

In the past, Samsung has launched the mini versions of its Galaxy S devices such as the Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy S5 Mini. These mini handsets cater to smartphone customers who prefer a smaller handset and lower cost. With Apple looking into the mini segment of smartphones, the move could help bring wider consumers in the company’s ecosystem.

Second Wave of the Android One Initiative to Include Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka

The internet search giant announced on its official blog that it is expanding its reach, and will be soon launching the initiative in Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

  • Snap 360 Degree Pictures on Your iPhone with 3DAround

Snap 360 Degree Pictures on Your iPhone with 3DAround

Well are you tired of clicking pictures from every angle to get better perspective. What if you could click a picture which can swivel around same as you see in those e-commerce websites? Well, it is now possible with your iPhones.

A new iOS app, 3DAround allows iPhone 6 users to take 360 degree pictures of objects and then show them as 3D photographs. Made by Swiss software company Dacuda, this app  takes pictures that are not just 3-dimensional, but interactive too.

    dacuda-3daround-gif-small

All you have to do is revolve your camera phone around an object and 3DAround stitches together all the photos into a 3D image which the viewer can spin at will. Free to download, this app primarily targets food photography but it works just as well with any similarly sized object.

The 3DAround app extracts depth and structure information from a success of rapid-fire photos to create the 360-degree views. You’ll be able to interactively view the swivel-able photo through the 3DAround app or WebGL-equipped browsers like Chrome, and share some version of the images to Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

    screen-shot-2014-10-24-at-1-05-03-pm

By tilting the phone, the image shifts and pans around the object with movements.

With the recent launch of devices like HTC EVO sporting stereoscopic double cameras that can take slightly “3D” photos, 3DAround for iOS gives iPhone users an edge.  Apple’s iOS8 camera is a key component of 3DAround functionality, according to the company. The phone’s integrated gyro sensor lets the app capture in holographic detail, the presentation of all types of food.

  • Countdown Starts for CES 2015 – Here’s What You Can Expect

Countdown Starts for CES 2015 – Here’s What You Can Expect

Consumer Electronic Show (CES) can simply be explained as a 3-day long extravagant exhibition of geeky stuff in Las Vegas. The event has been a launching pad for many concept devices and this year as well, we’ll be seeing some exceptional innovations for the first time. With new segments in the tech industry mushrooming and touching every corner of our lives. This year’s show is expected to be heavily focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) and latest automobile tech. Along with this, many global smartphone makers are expected to show off their devices including Huawei, Alcatel, Lenovo among others.

Here’s what you can expect from the Consumer Electronic Show 2015:

    1. TVs

    LG ELECTRONICS

Since the commencement of this annual show, televisions have been the primary focus. CES has been the wonderland of colour televisions, HD TVs and almost every new technology that has shaped the television industry. This year at CES, we can expect to see more 4K TVs from LG and Samsung. LG has already confirmed that it will be showing off the new quantum dot-enabled 4K LCD TV. The new display technology uses nanocrystals placed in front of the LCD backlight to increase the range of colours, saturation and brightness over traditional LD displays. Samsung is also expected to launch TVs with similar technology, considering the traditional rivalry between of both South Korean electronic giants.

4K content streaming is also expected to go big at this year’s show. With Sony expected to launch a new range of 4K TVs, Sony Pictures will surely be coming up with more of 4K content to use those extra pixels. Along with this, 4K disc format is also said to make its debut at the CES 2015. However, we are not sure if it’s the right time.

    2. Smartphones

    LG_G_Flex

Probably, the biggest announcement in the smartphone segment will be the Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 810 processor. LG looks geared to continue its smartphone bending tradition by revealing the LG G Flex 2 at CES 2015. The original G Flex featured LG’s flexible OLED display, but the structure of the phone itself was rigid.

Huawei, the Chinese firm, is trying mightily to break into the US market along with Alcatel and Lenovo. So, we can expect some big announcements from these companies. Also trying to get hold of the market is Microsoft. The company has avoided CES for the last couple of years, but Microsoft may make push its smartphones this time. And of course, there will be a vast amount of stages devoted to smartphone cases, headphones and other accessories.

    3. Wearables

    apple_watch_heart_rate_sensor-620x368

Last year’s CES saw the introduction of wearables. Subsequent launch of Android Wear fuelled the wearable segment and exploded the market with strings of new wearables. This segment has now started to congeal into a more manageable market. This CES should bring heart rate sensors to the must-do list of every fitness bands, which earlier were restricted to counting stairs, steps and sleep.

Well, not much can be said about the launch of new devices. It is expected that Apple Watch may finally start to sell. Other than that, not too many wearables are expected to launch this year.

    4. Virtual Reality

The Oculus Rift headset is tested by attendees at the Eurogamer Expo at Earls Court in London.

Google’s much controversial Glass eyewear has proved to be a breakthrough in the VR segment, which encouraged more companies to join the race. A bunch of big names are expected to announce their VR devices at CES 2015 including Oculus Rift, Sony’s Project Morpheus and Samsung’s VR headset.

CES has a long history in the entertainment industry. There is no way big game makers will be losing the chance to show off their new VR headsets. We can expect new games, movies and apps to be announced at CES 2015.

    5. Auto Tech

    694439

In 2010, Ford CEO Alan Mulally took the stage of CES. Since then, autombiles have become a significant part of the show. This year, many big brands like Ford, Audi, Mercedes, Hyundai, Toyota and more will be present at the CES. Toyota stole the show last year with its hydrogen-powered car  and we can expect to see more next-gen fuel cars this year; at least we hope to. Along with this, we can expect to see some driver-less cars too but not from Google, as it doesn’t usually drop by CES .

Also, with Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay on full consumer mode, we can expect car-makers to show off some new models equipped with these automobile communication systems. Navigation systems and head-up display on windscreens are also expected to go big at the CES 2015. We can also expect a peek into the future of car infotainment system, which is somehow still in a nascent stage.

This CES is warming up to be quite an exciting event, from which we can expect many new launches and perhaps a few surprises.

  • OnePlus Expected to Bring Out a Secret Device Today

OnePlus Expected to Bring Out a Secret Device Today

OnePlus has been in the news a lot lately. Recent leaks talk about the existence of a purported OnePlus One Mini and secondly, its partnership with MaxxAudio for the One. However, it seems the company is not yet finished with the announcements.

OnePlus posted the image you can see below on its official Google+ account yesterday. It sure has something big coming in, but the company did not mention what. The caption reads, “Need a reason to be excited for tomorrow? We’ve got 10,000. #NeverSettle.” The image reads “Go further” and includes four LED lights.

    e5479571-8779-47dd-857b-d9191f8202dd

Many think it might be the OnePlus One Mini, since it just leaked yesterday, however, there is no way to confirm the authenticity of the leaked reports. As for now, the company has been tight-lipped about it. So what is it? The four LED lights and the ‘Go Further’ caption point towards a new accessory, may be a battery pack.

The LEDs look quite similar that many external battery packs use to signal the amount of charge they’re currently holding. OnePlus has been trying its luck in the accessory segment with the recent release of new cases and headphones, and so a battery pack might be another addition.
