5 Features the iPhone 6s Should Have Had

Now that Apple has revealed its latest flagships, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, it is time to talk about whether Apple delivered the goods customers have been waiting for or not. While some have raved over the upgraded camera features and Force Touch functionality, others were disappointed with some of the announcements, or the lack thereof.

We’ll look at some of the features and upgrades the iPhone 6s should have had:

    Minimum 32 GB Storage

Knowing before hand that Apple was going to upgrade its camera to 12 megapixels, loyalists around the world also hoped that the iPhone would stop the 16 GB variant (which really helped no one) and have the 32 GB as its new minimum. With the new 12 megapixel camera and the ability to shoot 4K video, and a new feature that takes live photos, having a storage as limited as 16 GB makes little or no sense and a 32 GB variant would have been hugely welcomed. Alas, the iPhone 6s will only come in 16 GB/ 64 GB/ 128 GB variants. So those seeking a larger storage will need to burn their pockets.

    Longer Battery Life

One of the most important concerns for every smartphone user today is the battery life and this proved to be a huge disappointment on Apple’s part. At the launch, audiences did not receive any information on the new iPhone’s battery capacity. However, stills from the Apple promo video show that the iPhone 6s will have a 1715 mAh capacity, which is smaller than the 1810 mAh of the iPhone 6. Given all the new and upgraded features, one expects the phone to have enough juice to allow users to make full use of the various applications. Apple should have delivered on that.

    User Friendly Design

The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus look visually identical to the current iPhones, but made from a custom 7000 series aluminum. This will solve the ‘bendgate’ issue that plagued the iPhone 6. However, with a new, smooth aluminum body, users are likely to find it harder to hold as it is lacking proper grip. Users will have to buy a separate cover, which would not have been needed if the makers had toyed with the design a little.

    iPhone 6s 6

    Improved Resolution

The iPhone 6s has the same 750 x 1334 resolution as the current iPhone 6. Apart from the added 3D Touch, the new iPhones do not offer a better display, which is puzzling when combined with the fact that they have upgraded their camera. Again, Apple should have offered a higher resolution seeing that its rival Samsung has raced ahead in that area already, offering a 1440 x 2560 resolution for its Galaxy S6.

    iphone_6s_iphone_6s_plus_ap_01

    Better Performance

Apple announced that the iPhone 6s Series will come with the latest A9X 3rd Generation 64-bit chipset. According to Apple, the A9 chipset is 70% faster at CPU tasks and 90% more graphic power than the A8. However, the core- count and speed were factors that weren’t discussed which is what decides the performance of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

  • iPhone 6s to Have a Battery Smaller Than iPhone 6

iPhone 6s to Have a Battery Smaller Than iPhone 6

A Force Touch promotional video released by Apple seems to confirm that the battery of the newest iPhone will be less than its predecessor. Speculations about the reduced battery capacity of the iPhone 6s have been doing the rounds for weeks now. Finally this video comes across as some sort of an acknowledgement of the rumours. According to GSMArena, it shows the battery at a “1715 mAh”, less than the iPhone 6’s 1810 mAh.

The reason for the reduced battery is perhaps to make space for new features like the Taptic Engine and Force Touch-enabled display. At the same time, this in no way implies fewer hours of usage. The specs at the Apple event last night show that the iPhone 6s will have the same talk, Internet browsing, and video playback time as the iPhone 6. This is ensured by the increased efficiency of the phone in terms of power usage.

  • Flagship Spec Battle: iPhone 6s vs the Rest

Now that iPhone 6s has hit the markets, it’s time to pit the newest Apple wonder against the best of the smartphone industry. Apple has never failed to woo its users with its fluidity and smoothness in the past. One wonders if it’s likely to happen now as well in the face of tough competition from equally snazzy and up to date tech names like Samsung, Sony, LG and HTC.

Despite not being able to match its competitors in terms of specs and numbers on paper, Apple has always managed to fulfil the demands of the tech world so far. On the launch of the very first iPhone eight years ago in 2007, Steve Jobs had promised to “reinvent the phone”. This promise has indeed been taken care of if statistics are to be believed which suggest that 53% of the smartphone market is dominated by Apple.

  • Apple Pencil Wants to Take on Samsung’s S-Pen

Apple Pencil Wants to Take on Samsung’s S-Pen

What do you do when Apple announces an Apple pencil? You write about it. Then, because it’s so similar to Samsung’s S-Pen, you compare them.

Whether you’re sketching in the park, painting a watercolor portrait, or drafting a blueprint, Apple Pencil gives you a variety of tools in a single instrument. You hold it, but it doesn’t hold you back.

The new S-Pen most recently arrived with the Galaxy Note 5. It came as a stylus on the side of the smartphone and could be used on the Note 5 even when the display was off. Sounded fancy enough.

    LifeStyle 15

In comparison, the Apple Pencil came along with the 12.7 inch iPad Pro that was just announced at their 2015 event today. Now here’s the annoying bit about the Apple pencil – you have to buy it for $99, which is approximately Rs.5,000. It’s unfair, because they make an expensive iPad with this new stylus and then don’t even give you the full stylus in one set. It’s like buying an iPhone without the battery.

    iPad Pro Pencil Keyboard 8

Moving on, we see that the Apple Pencil is charged by directly plugging it into the iPad Pro while the S-Pen is independent. The problem with that is, that you already have a 12.7 inch iPad and if one has to charge the pencil, that too will be attached to the length of the iPad. So how does one fit it in their bag pack? Seems uncomfortable. That being said, it has a battery life of this novel Pencil is 10-12 hours and it gives you 30 minutes of usage with just 15 seconds of charge. That seems grudgingly, impressive.

The Apple pencil doesn’t really have a ‘wrong side’ either, so you can write using both side. Whereas, you can use the S-Pen only on the ‘right side’. Not just this, you can draw lines of varying thickness depending on how much pressure you apply and you can even shade if you tilt the pencil and use it at a slant.

Now all we’re waiting for is to get our hands on the Apple ‘Stylus’ (and the iPad Pro) to tell you if it really lives up to the hype.

6 Things You May Have Missed During the Apple Launch

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have finally been revealed. After whispered talks for weeks, Apple has delivered its latest offering and is out to be judged. While the world was watching in anticipation as to whether the rumored features and upgrades to the phone – such as camera and Force Touch – were delivered or not, we’ve decided to highlight some details and features about the other products from the launch that you may have missed out on.

    1. Apple Watch to come with Facebook Messenger, iTranslate and AirStrip:

    COeiFQIWEAAmYUv

    COeiE10WEAAI2-Y

Apple has introduced the Messenger app on the watch along with an app that translates one language to another, and an app called Airstrip for healthcare providers that receives information and can differentiate between a baby and mother’s heart rate during pregnancy.

Apple has also tied up with Hermes to design new gold leather bands for the watch, which will cost the same as the Sports. WatchOS2 will release on the 16th of September.

    2. iPad Pro will include the 3D4Medical app:

    iPad Pro Pencil Keyboard 2

This will allows users to see 3D models of the body in real-time. This app will be particularly useful for patients and medical professionals as it allows users to view 3D images of injuries and can plan out surgeries as well. Are you willing to trust a doctor with an iPad?

    3. The iPad Pro will come with an Apple Pencil and keyboard:

The new iPad Pro will feature a stylus called the Apple Pencil and so far this addition has received lukewarm reception. It also comes with a keyboard sold separately for $169,  which  magnetically attaches to the iPad.

iPad Pro Pencil Keyboard 8 iPad Pro Pencil Keyboard 0

4.The iPad Mini 2 becomes cheaper while iPad Mini 4 will come with an upgraded A8x processor:

This means that it will be able to run all of the iOS 9’s multitasking features. With an upgraded 8 megapixel rear camera, the iPad mini 4 is now very much at par with the iPad Air 2.

    dsc2149

    5. Apple TV will have a voice and touch enabled remote:

It also introduces iOS features such as weather and sports scores to the TV. It’s called TV OS “Based on iOS and built for the living room”. The TV also allows you to quick rewind 15 seconds by asking “what did she say?”. A great feature if one tends to miss out on a scene. The remote will also feature an accelerometer and a gyroscope that will detect body motions, similar to the Wii.

    6. Harmonix introduced a game called Beat Sports for the Apple TV:

You hit pitches by swinging the remote, which means the remote indeed has motion control. “Beat Sports combines the joy of hitting balls with the joy of hitting notes” and can be played using the iPhone and iPod Touch as well.

    BEATS

Now that we’ve got the big and small covered, you can decide for yourselves whether Apple has indeed paid attention to the finer details or not. Expected to roll out their devices next month i.e, October, one will have to wait and find out if the new products are a hit. And if the past is any indication, they will be.

  • Here’s What’s New on the Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus

Here’s What’s New on the Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus

Apple like clockwork at an event today launched their revisions to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Named appropriately, and in Apple’s yearly naming system, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Apple claims that they have changed everything inside the iPhones. But what all has really changed?

    iPhone 6s 7

    Build and Design

The new iPhones will come in an all new rose gold colour to match with the new Apple Watch colour. Design wise they look the same, with the same identical button layout. The new iPhones, however, are thicker; with the new iPhone 6s now at 7.1 mm up from the 6.9mm of last year and the iPhone 6s Plus up to 7.3mm from 7.1mm on the iPhone 6 Plus.

Weight wise the iPhones are heftier with iPhone 6s up to 143 grams vs last years 129 grams on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s Plus now at 192 grams vs 172 grams on the iPhone 6 Plus.

A lot has also changed in the construction of these iDevices. New Apple made series 7000 Aluminium along with extra reinforcement ensures that “bendgate” doesn’t happen this year.

There is also an all new glass layer that Apple claims is tougher than any glass on the market, pointing at Gorilla Glass 4.

    Hardware

    a iPhone 6s 3

The new iPhones come with a 64 Bit A9 chip with a new M9 co-processor that improves performance and graphic capabilities vs iPhone 6 and 6 Plus that came with A8 chip with M8 Co-processor. The M9 co-processor is now always ‘on’, detecting your movement, vs the M8 which was activated on movement.

    a iPhone 6s 2

The displays remain the same with the same size and same resolution, however the addition of 3D touch will improve user experience considerably.

    Camera

    iPhone 6s 4

New camera’s will include a 12 MP main camera on both iPhones. Again, like last year only the iPhone 6s Plus gets optical image stabalization. Both iPhones with the newer camera now have the capability of shooting 4k Video and a new “Live Photos” feature that allows you to capture photo moments.

    iPhone 6s 6

Slo-mo video support for 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps, and video stabalization only works up till 1080p video.

The front camera on the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus also gets a much needed bump to 5 MP from a paltry 1.2 MP last year, along with an interesting new selfie flash feature which will make the display turn into a true tone flash with 3 times the brightness.

    Apple iPhone front flash

The new iPhones will also support more LTE bands vs last year. Unlocked iPhones will support 23 LTE bands including TD and FD-LTE. The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will include VoLTE (Voice over LTE) for better communication capabilities in areas supporting the VoLTE functions.

    a iPhone 6s 1

    Software

Apart from running iOS 9, thanks to the addition of the new hardware the software will work slightly differently. The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus feature a new 3D Touch display powered by a Taptic engine. A physical piece of hardware which monitors the input and pressure of a users finger and allows the operating system to respond accordingly.

    a iPhone 6s 0

This will save up time allowing you to decide what part of the app you need to access prior to launching the app. Just like a secondary click it allows for more interaction in gaming and in productivity apps as demonstrated by Apple at their event.

The new photos app will allow for live photos that are captured by the iPhone, vs static photos seen up until now. The images will capture a few seconds of cache video allowing you to replay the moment as it occurred. HTC introduced a similar feature on the original HTC One M7 a few years back , however it required you to be in a specific mode with specific features turned on prior to capture. Apple includes this as standard for each photograph, without compromising on speed of capturing a picture.

    iPhone 6s 8

Thanks to the new hardware you can now call up Siri using “Hey Siri” even when the iPhone is not connected to the charger.

The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus cost the same as last year on contract in the US. However their unlocked phone pricing is the same as well.

iPhone 6s Vs iPhone 6s Plus: What is the Real Difference?

Now that you’ve had a good look at the iPhone 6s, we’re going to move forward to the expected and anticipated iPhone 6s Plus. As Apple tradition goes, the respected iPhone is always released with an upgraded ‘S’ option.

    iPhone 6s 7

We have also seen much of a difference between the previous year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. For example, the iPhone 6 came with a 4.7-inch display while the 6 Plus came with a 5.5-inch one. Apart from this, the 6 Plus also came with a higher resolution and  pixel density, a longer battery life and most importantly the camera that came with the optical image stabilizing technology.

What’s the big difference between the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus?

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus had come out with a mind blowing storage capacity of up to 128GB for the high-end models of its two new handsets. Is the iPhone 6s Plus any different? No it isn’t. It comes with the same storage options. But we already told you that before.

  • Apple to Release iOS 9 on 16th September

Apple to Release iOS 9 on 16th September

iOS 9 – the latest OS of Apple devices will arrive on 16th September. We have compiled together some of the most interesting chunks of information about Apple’s newest OS collected over the past couple of days.

    iOS 9

    Will Increase Battery Life:

To begin with, Apple claims that the new iOS 9 will reduce overheads and improve battery life in general by upto 1 hour. A new low power mode will allow for devices to reduce power consumption and restrict to only phone call capability, hence improving the last few minutes of battery to as much 3 hours of usage. This will, however, reduce the performance of the iPhone in exchange for improving the battery life.

Will Delete Apps Temporarily to Make Space:

According to reports, iOS 9 can delete apps temporarily to accommodate software updates. If the operating system is short of storage, it will prompt the user to temporarily delete the apps before installing the updates. After updates have been installed, iOS 9 will automatically re-install those apps. One of the main criticisms of iOS 8 was the amount of exorbitant space it took for installing updates. To make up for it, Apple announced at 2015 WWDC that the new iOS would only require only 1.35 GB of space, a huge improvement from iOS 8, which used 5.5 GB. The announcement was a relief to the iPhone users who use the 16 GB variant.

Search Bar for Apps and Settings:

The newest iOS 9 accommodates a Search bar on top of Settings, allowing you to search any app within the menu. The Settings option is better than ever, enabling you to pick any specific app from the mess just by typing its initials or the full name. For example, if you type ‘Battery’, the Battery feature will appear in front, hiding all in the background. You can tap on it, and its settings will pop up, allowing you to make a choice.

    Smoother Typing Options:

Pressing the shift key allows you to switch between upper case and lower case in iOS 9, instead of only the shift key changing colour and characters not swapping to lower case. We soon won’t need to remember which colour was for caps.

Also, the keypad will allow dropping simply two fingers on the keyboard of the iPhone to make a selection, editing and a shift in text from one place to another. Therefore, the keypad becomes your trackpad, increasing the productivity of your phone. The feature has earlier been seen in the iPad.

    Swipe to Select Multiple Pictures:

Selecting multiple photos on iPhone’s preceding OS iterations was a pain. The company has altered the tedious approach, and the new operating system comes with multiple photo selection support, allowing you to use your finger as a cursor. Widen the cursor to increase the selection area and mass-pictures will be selected as per requirement. No need to tap one-by-one to delete bulk pictures now. Just swipe to choose and dump them in the bin or on cloud. The Photo app also features a ‘scrubber’ beneath, enabling you to flip quickly through the images secured in the camera roll.

Along with the updates mentioned above, we also expect to see the iOS 9 to have more speed and stability, a problem which some users previously struggled with with the previous iteration. Watch this space for more updates on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

  • The iPhone 6s Finally Makes Its Tech Carpet Entry

The iPhone 6s Finally Makes Its Tech Carpet Entry

The moment has arrived, when Apple finally reveals its iPhone 6s smartphone. We have been covering all sorts of rumours and reports about this handset the moment we got wind of it. Price, display, specifications and software – we’ve heard it all, and now is that moment of truth where we find out what this hype is all about and most importantly, whether it’s been worth it. Their opening statement is this:

“The only thing that’s changed is everything.”

Let’s start with the most obvious – the price. Earlier reports suggested that the iPhone 6s would arrive at around 699 euros which is Rs.52,084 approximately, for the 16GB version, 799 euros which is Rs.59,529 approximately, for the 64GB version and 899 euros which is Rs.66,980 approximately for the 128GB version. Here are the final numbers: the 16GB version is priced at $199, the 64GB version is $299 and the 128GB version is $399.

Few exciting things we now know about the new iPhone is that they will feature animated wallpapers and that the Rose Gold colour variant we were anticipating is here! Now it’s up to you if you think rose gold is fashionable enough for you, because the ‘cool’ new iPhone definitely thinks it is.

It comes with a brand new glass encasing this time, with the Ion-X and not the usual Sapphire Glass, and a new Taptic Engine which can be used to navigate the UI.

    iPhone 6s 15

So, it was said that the new iPhone will have an updated 3D Force Touch technology – meaning that the sensors would be taking into account three different types of touch rather than two. This is also true. Apple has confirmed the 3D Force Touch feature, that makes  photos, emails, Messages, etc pop up on your display. You just need to press on an app to jump right into a feature. This feature also allows you to use apps and be active on them without even opening them.

They’ve also mentioned that the phone will be running on the new iOS 9 and the smartphone will come integrated with the new A9 chip.

    iPhone 6s 12

Let’s talk about something that the iPhone is most applauded for – its camera. The iPhone 6 Plus has had an 8MP camera with an optical image stabilization feature that made it the phone with game changing photography abilities. Well, the iPhone 6s is better than that – it has an all new iSight 12MP camera with deep trench isolation. That’s it. iPhone just won. The 12MP camera will now allow you to record videos in 4K resolution.

    iPhone 6s 5

That was the rear camera, but the iPhone’s front camera, which is as big a star as the primary camera, now comes at 5 megapixels and full HD resolution, allowing better FaceTime and selfie opportunities to users. The front camera also comes with a true tone Retina Flash feature. The 3D Touch feature also extends itself into the still camera pictures by animating the photos into video, called Live Photos, which can also have sound.

“These are regular photos — we extend the capture moment just before and after.”

Speaking about connectivity the iPhone 6s comes with 2X faster WiFi and 23 LTE bands. They’ve also mentioned that the new iCloud storage pricing will be as follows: 50gb for 99 cents a months, 200GB for 2.99/mot 1TB for 9.99/mo.

    iPhone 6s 20

Now in the midst of all this they’ve also announced a small little ‘neighborly app’ that allows Android users to switch to the iPhone’s iOS.

“You can recycle your Android phone for free at any Apple Store,” says the app.

To conclude, we can accumulate all the major features and say that the iPhone 6s comes with the 3D Force Touch technology, is made with a 7000 series aluminum body and a new cover glass, a 64 bit A9 chip with M9, a second gen touch ID, has an advanced LTE and faster Wi-Fi, 12MP iSight camera with 4K Video, 5MP FaceTime HD resolution with retina flash and Live Photos. Phew.

  • Yes, the iPhone 6s Comes in a Rose Gold Colour Variant

Yes, the iPhone 6s Comes in a Rose Gold Colour Variant

We have been speculating about this for a while, and now Apple has finally confirmed it – the new iPhones will be available in a rose gold variant with an aluminium finish. At the ongoing mega event held in San Francisco, Apple also unveiled an Apple Watch variant to match. iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be available in a total of four shades – silver, gold, space grey, and breaking the monotony from iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, there will be one more addition, rose gold.

The new phones will also boast of a brand new glass structure, strongest in the industry. Along with the iPhone 6s, Apple also announced the new iPad Pro and Apple TV.

  • With the New Apple TV, Your TV Screen Becomes Your iPad

With the New Apple TV, Your TV Screen Becomes Your iPad

Tim Cook took over the stage and said,”I’d like to talk about an even bigger screen.” And you held your breath because you know what’s coming next. Yes, tech-freaks all over the world, it’s time for the Apple TV.

“Our vision for TV is simple and perhaps a little provocative. We believe the future of television is apps.” – Cook

And we know for a fact that we couldn’t have agreed with him more.

    Apple TV 2
    Apple TV 2

The TV is built on a powerful hardware that runs a modern operating system. It is further equipped with a completely revamped user experience, even better developer tools, and an App Store, of course. The TV introduces TV OS -a new OS especially for the TV. If this wasn’t enough, the remote has a touchpad! On the flip side, since the surface is absolutely smooth, it would be interesting to use it in the dark or without looking at it. A similar feature has been tried by Fan TV in the past.

The remote is equipped with Siri allowing the user to use their voice to look for movies and TV shows. A little Back to the Future reminiscing, anyone? Hulu, HBO and Netflix are all re-done. Plus, the TV is capable of following specific instructions like, “Show that Modern Family episode with Edward” and voila! There’s Edward Norton in Modern Family for you.

    Apple TV gaming

    Apple TV gaming

Apple TV also boasts of new games with the remote serving as the game controller. Disney Infinity, the new Guitar Hero and Shadowmatic are some of the games that are included, along with Kids games. As for the UI, it seems more focused on content rather than channels and networks. While the user can fast-forward by sliding the thumb, they can also rewind 15 seconds by asking “what did she say?”. The user can also ask for sports scores and weather updates while watching TV shows.

Apple TV features the Apple-designed A8 chip so developers can build new games and custom content apps for the TV. tvOS supports key iOS technologies including Metal, for detailed graphics, complex visual effects and Game Center, to play and share games with friends. The original TV is priced at 69$ followed by 149$ and 199$ for the 32 GB and 64 GB versions respectively.

  • The 12.9 inch iPad Pro is Finally a Reality

The 12.9 inch iPad Pro is Finally a Reality

At the Apple launch, Tim Cook announced “The biggest news in iPad since the iPad”. The new iPad Pro is the company’s push for the iPad in a big way. It is the “biggest screen on an iOS device, with more power and performance than any iOS device.”

    Apple iPad Pro 3

According to the company, the iPad Pro is thin enough to hold all day long and buoyant enough to be used as a flotation device in case of emergency. But we feel like it may just be too big to hold in one hand.

    Screen 12.9 Retina display
    Display 5.6 mil pixels
    Sound 4 speaker audio
    Battery 10 hours
    Camera 8 megapixel iSight
Connectivity Up to 150 mbps LTE

The iPad Pro is upto 1.8X faster than the previous models and is faster than 80% of the portable PCs that have been released. It boasts of a desktop class performance and a great sound system, which includes a four-speaker audio system that balances stereo and frequencies depending on how you hold it.

Apple introduced two new features – the physical keyboard and the Apple Pencil. The keyboard can be attached to the iPad magnetically. The Apple Pencil was introduced to almost lukewarm reactions from the crowd. The stylus has a built in lightning cable for charging.

    Apple iPad Pro 9

    Apple iPad Pro 10

Apple in a surprising and amusing move, gave the stage to the Microsoft Office team headed by Kirk Konigsbauer, who introduced the Microsoft Office for the iPad. Using iOS9 multitasking, you can have word and excel on the screen at the same time. Earlier, Samsung came out with a multitasking feature, but Apple looks to make it more efficient and user friendly.

Next was Irene Walsh on stage who introduced a new app called 3D4Medical.

“I’m excited to show you how with the new iPad Pro, our ability to communicate with patients has dramatically improved.”

The app shows 3D models of the body, animated in real time. This app is sure to help both patients and medical professionals because the advantages seem to reach far and wide as one can draw out surgeries and get a look of injuries in 3D.

Last year’s iPad Air 2, had a new display, upgraded A8X chip, 6.1mm thin, less than a pound. This year’s new iPad, the iPad Pro, has a better display, upgraded A9X, slightly thicker, slightly heavier. The 32/128 (Wi-Fi)/128 (Wi-Fi + Cellular) GB iPad Pro will cost $799/ $949/ $1079 respectively, the Pencil will cost $99 and the keyboard will be $169.

The iPad Pro is a designer’s dream come true because of the apps and features it offers. However, only the future will tell us how it will make an impact in terms of usage, to the common man. Let us know what you think about this wonder, in the comments below.
