The Xiaomi Mi A2 has officially become the first phone by the smartphone manufacturer to receive the Android 9 Pie update. The rollout was first limited to a few Mi A2 devices. But, will start reaching almost all devices from the 18th of December. Additionally, the Poco F1 has also started recieving an update for MIUI 10, which brings in a lot of big fixes as well.
Mi A2
The rollout of the Pie update started a few days back and other Xiaomi devices have also been receiving scattered updates. This includes the Mi A2 Lite as well. A global rollout is expected to start in January 2019. However the original Mi A1 is yet to receive any definite date for the update. But, users should not be disheartened as some Mi A1 users had also reported receiving the update. Since these devices are part of the Android One program, it is but natural for them to receive the Android Pie update first.
Poco F1
The Poco F1 has started receiving a stable update for MIUI 10 based on Android Pie. This update was also reported by multiple users last week. The update brings big fixes to the Poco F1 along with google Lens integration. It also fixes several issued with Android Auto. A few other bug fixes are mentioned below.
The update fixes the setting for turning off the screen automatically and also fixes the issues with the phone’s microphone. However, a lot of users are still reporting some issues even after the latest update. These include a Ambient display option in the settings, which apparently doesn’t work at all times. Some users also reported a touch lag. Other users also reported that the Google Assistant wasn’t responding to the “Ok Google” command at times. The company has mentioned that it will be releasing updates with fixes for these issues soon.
While a select few Xiaomi phones have started receiving the latest Android 9 Pie operating system, majority of their phones are still running on older versions of Android. With most users having mid-range or budget smartphones from the company which do not get speedy updates, it is imperative that the smartphone giant does something about to speed up this process.
A mystery smartphone from Xiaomi has been spotted on TENAA. The smartphone carries the model number M1901F9T. Although the name of the device is not yet confirmed, this could be a Redmi 7-series smartphone. Like the Redmi 6, it also has a display with a notch up top. The listing also reveals some specifications about the upcoming device.
Specifications
The Xiaomi smartphone which is codenamed M1901F9T has a 5.84-inch display with a high screen-to-body ratio. The front of the device also seems to have a tiny waterdrop notch that houses the front-facing selfie camera. The right side of the smartphone harbors the power button and volume rockers while the left side is free from any switches. The rear of the smartphone has a glass back which houses the fingerprint sensor and a dual camera setup with an LED flash.
The Xiaomi smartphone measures 147.76 × 71.89 × 7.8 mm and is powered by a 2,900 mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone supports dual 4G VoLTE while it is also expected to have other standard options like Wi-Fi 802.11 and Bluetooth. Other specifications like the CPU, GPU, and camera resolution is unavailable. If it is the successor to the Redmi 6 Pro, the former is expected to have better specifications than the latter.
India is one of the fastest growing markets for technology as the developing nation has a huge population with disposable income and they are not wary of spending on new technology. If we look back, there was a time when we hardly received any new tech. Heck! India skipped out on technology like the Answering Machines and Pagers for the mass market. People who could afford it were few and far between. But the scenario has changed and the tech companies now put immense focus on emerging markets such as India. But there are still a few gadgets and tech innovations that we wish came to India. They may be introduced to the Indian market at a later date but they aren’t available just yet.
Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop
The budget gaming laptop that everyone wanted Xiaomi to introduce to India still hasn’t arrived on the country’s shores yet. If anything, India is known to be a price sensitive market and this laptop is extremely budget friendly. It comes in different variants for every budget. The laptop is a 15.6-inch device that sports a 7th Generation Intel Core i7 or i5 CPU, a 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD and either an Nvidia GTX 1060 or an Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti. The i7/GTX1060 variant sports a 16GB RAM, while the i5/1050Ti variant is coupled with 8GB of RAM. The 16GB of RAM + GTX 1060 model costs CNY 8,999 (Rs 93695 Approx) while the 8GB of RAM + 1050 Ti model costs just CNY 5,999 (Rs 62459 Approx). This is dirt cheap if we compare it to other gaming laptops of similar specs available in the market.
Amazon Echo Wall Clock
Amazon has introduced a lot of home products in the Indian market and all the products have done quite well. Even though smart home products are something that not Indians are completely familiar with, the Echo devices have done quite well. Amazon launched a smart wall clock recently that connects to your Echo device.
You can set the timer using your Alexa-powered smart speaker and the lights around the rim of the clock will light up to show you how much time is left. The use of this can be a little narrow for users but it can be useful to some. People who are working in household settings, people who are working under strict deadlines, bachelors who are forgetful and people working in the kitchen can all benefit from it. One can set up the clock in their kitchen or on top of their study table or desk and keep a track of time and set timers to achieve certain goals. The price of the clock is $30, which directly converted translates to around Rs 2157.
Huawei’s FreeBuds 2 Pro
Wireless earbuds tech is in vogue and we cannot deny the fact that they are here to stay. After Apple launched their Apple AirPods, every other smartphone manufacturers have launched their version. Huawei recently launched the Huawei FreeBuds 2 Pro. But unfortunately there is no news as to when it will be available in India, if at all. This earphone features bone conduction technology, supports wireless charging and has 13nm drivers. The design is eerily similar to the Apple AirPods right down to the earphone case. One can sue the Huawei Mate 20 Pro to charge the earphones through reverse charging as well. It costs CNY 999 which roughly translates to Rs 10,401.
Google Pixel Slate
Apple recently launched the all new iPad Pro in India and it is absolutely beautiful to look at. However, Google has not paid too much heed to their tablet division in India with the Pixel Slate still not available in the market. The Pixel Slate has four different variants with Intel Celeron processor and 4/8 GB RAM with 32/64GB RAM variant starting at £549 (Rs 49702 Approx) being the cheapest one. The fully specced out version of the tablet with 8th Generation Intel Core i7 Processor and 16 GB RAM, 256GB storage will set you back £1,549 (Rs 140235 Approx). It might be the case that Google does not see the product fit for the Indian market or may very well introduce this tech wonder to India at a later date but we sure hope that it does hit Indian shores soon.
Tesla Model 3
The last one on our list is every car enthusiast and environmentalist’s dream. Tesla has been manufacturing battery powered cars for years now but it still hasn’t come to India. Unlike most car manufacturers, who can just set up a business in India and make and manufacture their products, a Tesla requires planning, help from the government and a lot of infrastructure setup throughout the country. The cars, since they run on electricity, need to have charging points spread across the country. In a country where there are places that hasn’t even received electricity even in 2018, Tesla might be a distant dream. Many countries, Norway being the prime example, have different government schemes. These schemes provide exemptions and rebates to people buying electric cars. But it seems like there is no such plan, at least in the near future in India.
The Tesla Model 3 is the latest addition to Tesla’s lineup and features a 310 mile range, 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.3 seconds and claims to have the most refined design and engineering among other cars in the category. If we do end up on Tesla’s radar and if the government is indeed trying to bring the pollution down by encouraging customers to buy electric cars, we might find a lot of Tesla buyers in the country.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite which was launched as the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth in China back in September has been spotted on Geekbench recently and it seems like the phone may come to India with Android 9 Pie out of the box! But there is also a possibility that the company might be testing their MIUI custom skin on some devices. There are a number of different Mi 8 editions as well. They include Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi 8 SE and Mi 8 Pro.
Features and Specifications
The Mi 8 Lite boasts of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE Octa- core processor, up to 2.2 GHz and an Adreno 512 GPU, up to 650 MHz. The phone comes in two different variants which are 6GB + 128GB and 4GB + 64GB. It features a 6.26 inch screen with an aspect ratio of 19:9. The screen has a resolution of 2280 x 1080 with 403 ppi. It is an FHD+ display. On the battery front, it features a 3350mAh power reserve.
In terms of camera the phone has a 24MP Sony IMX 576f ront camera with 4-in-1 Super Pixel technology and 1.8 micron large pixels. The phone also has a dual camera set up at the back. This includes a 12MP rear camera boasting of 1.4 micron large pixels and a f/1.9 large aperture with Dual Pixel Auto-focus. The secondary camera at the back is a 5MP Samsung S5K5E8 camera with 1.12?m large pixels. The phone can shoot 4K videos at 30 fps. It also shoots 120 fps slow motion video as well as 30 fps stabilised video in 720p and 1080p.
The phone supports QC 3.0 quick charging via a USB- C charging port and includes a 5V2A charger in the box. The international versions are available in two colour options, which are Midnight Black and Aurora Blue. However, we will only find out if the phone does have the Android 9 Pie out of the box or not once the phone is launched which is slated to be Dec 26, 2018.
Xiaomi is known to tease its phones ahead of their launch. They have been in the headlines for most of their major releases, be it for the Poco phone or the Mi Mix 3. Their phone teasers create a certain hype regarding the price, specifications and unique features. For the Poco phone it was the Snapdragon 845 at a very low price, for the Mi Mix 3 it was the full screen display and slider design and so on.
Now it seems that the company’s President has teased a phone that has a remarkably high megapixel count. The image shared on a popular Chinese social networking website, only shows a part of the screen. The camera placement area of the screen can be seen of a phone that has “48 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA” written beside the flash. A part of the lens can also be seen in the image.
What The Image Reveals
The camera placement seems to be a vertical one, with the flash underneath it. From the image, we can also see that the phone has a glass back, and what appears to be the volume keys on the top (of the inverted phone image). According to the post, the company will launch the phone in January 2019. The Nokia Lumia 1020, released in 2013 had a whopping 41 MP camera. Even though the camera was much ahead of it’s time, the camera alone unfortunately could not save the Lumia brand at the time.
The phone, according to speculation, suggests that the phone may have the Sony IMX586 48-megapixel sensor. It can also sport the Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 48-megapixel sensor. Xiaomi is also supposed to be launching a 5G successor to the Mi Mix 3. There is a slight chance that the new 48 MP camera phone can be the Xiaomi Mi 9. The phone may also feature the new Snapdragon 855 chipset that is also supposedly being launched first by OnePlus.

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 Plus was launched a few months back by the Chinese electronics giant. It is the larger, 10.1 inch variant of the Mi Pad 4. During the time of its release, the device was running on Android 7, but then Xiaomi quickly updated it to Android 8 Oreo, within a few days of its launch. Now, a Mi Pad 4 Plus has been spotted on Geekbench, running on Android 9 Pie.
The Geekbench listing reveals that the Pie update for the tablet is around the corner. Considering the fact that Xiaomi ship their devices with their own custom UI, it is safe to assume that this will be running on the latest MIUI 10 which features advanced AI capabilities and UI improvements such as gesture navigation. The Android 9 Pie update will surely bring a lot of improvements to this tablet. On Geekbench, the tablet got a single-core score of 1642 and multi-core score of 5854.
Specifications
The Mi Pad 4 Plus has a 10.1 inch IPS LCD display with a 1920 x 1200 px resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The device has got fairly thick bezels on all sides and features a home button on the bottom of the screen. It runs on the Qualcomm snapdragon 660 SoC with the Adreno 512 GPU. It has 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB and 128 GB storage options. However, the Mi pad 4 Plus does not support any memory expansion.
The device sports a 13 MP single rear camera and a 5 MP from facing camera. The front camera also supports Face Unlock for securely unlocking the device. Additionally, the device also has a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button to unlock the device. Under the hood, it packs a 8,620 mAh battery, which claims 16 hours of video playback. The device features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and a USB Type-C port for connectivity, along with 4G LTE support. Additionally, there is not word about the Indian launch of the tablet as of now.
An upcoming Xiaomi smartphone has passed the FCC certification. This new smartphone bears the ID 2AFZZ-RMSC3GG and is said to target the budget conscious buyers in the Android smartphone market. Sources also claim it could be a more affordable phone from the Mi 8 series by Xiaomi. However, it is not clear as to which markets will see the launch of this device and whether it will make its way to India.
Not much is known about the device, but there are quite a few specifications which are seen on the listing. The Xiaomi smartphone only supports single-band WiFi and only works on WiFi b/g/n 2.4 GHz bands. This means it will not support dual-band WiFi or the latest WiFi 802.11ac. Also mentioned in the listing is that it is a dual SIM smartphone. However, only one SIM card can support 4G connectivity at a given point of time even though it supports dual standby.
Also mentioned in the listing is the fact that the phone has Bluetooth 4.2 support and not the latest Bluetooth 5.0. The listing also reveals the physical dimensions of the phone. The phone has a 5.9 inch screen and is around 71 mm wide. It is also reported to have dual rear cameras placed horizontally next to each other.
It is highly probable that this will be another China exclusive smartphone and might not see its launch in India. However, it is interesting to note that the Xiaomi smartphone does have Band 4.0 support. India’s leading telecom company, Reliance used the Band 4.0 technology in its Jio service. This might give us hope that the phone will be launched in India.
India’s number one smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi recently launched their Redmi Note 6 Pro smartphone. It is the successor to the highly successful Redmi Note 5 Pro. The first sale of the smartphone was held on November 23 and Xiaomi claims to have sold 6,00,000 units of the device. The second sale of the handset is set for 12 PM today. The company has not revealed the number of units up for grabs but these flash sales generally don’t last very long.
To catch up with the latest design trend, the Redmi Note 6 Pro now has a notch display. It has a 6.26-inch FHD+ panel with a resolution of 2280 x 1080px and a pixel density of 403 ppi. The right side of the handset is occupied by the power button and the volume rockers while the left side houses the hybrid dual SIM + microSD card slot. For photography, the smartphone has dual 12 MP + 5 MP rear camera sensors along with an LED flash which can also shoot 1080p videos at 30 fps. Moreover, the new smartphone gets dual 20 MP + 2 MP front cameras sensors which like the rear camera can shoot 1080p videos at 30 fps.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 6 Pro packs the Snapdragon 636 Octa-Core CPU along with the Adreno 509 GPU. The device runs on MIUI 10 which is built on top of Android 9.0 Pie. It is powered by a large 4,000 mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone gets 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, Dual 4G VoLTE, and also a micro-USB port for charging and data synching. For securely and quickly unlocking the device, it also has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Additionally, the Redmi Note 6 Pro has a P2i coating which makes it splash and water resistant.
The Redmi Note 6 Pro is available in four color options which are Black, Blue, Rose Gold, and Blue. The device is available in two RAM and ROM variants for which the price is as follows:
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 was launched last month and is the latest flagship from the company. It is feature loaded and its biggest highlight is the high screen-to-body ratio, owing to its sliding camera panel. The phone also features other attractive features such as 10 GB RAM and an in-display fingerprint sensor. Xiaomi had also announced that they will launch a variant with 5G capabilities. This might be getting closer to reality. As a Mi Mix 3 running on a 5G network is seen in the latest image designed by the company.
5G Mi Mix 3
During the launch event Xiaomi had announced that they would launch a 5G variant of the phone in the first quarter of 2019. It looks like Xiaomi is on track to keep that promise. As the phone seems to already be testing on 5G networks. From the image we can see that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is running on Android 9 Pie. On the right side of the notification bar, we can see the 5G flag. This clearly means that it is running on a 5G network. This also indicates that the development of this technology for the Mi Mix 3 is complete and will enter production soon.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 has a 6.39 inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a 93.4 % screen-to-body ratio. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and has up to 10 GB of RAM and upto 256 GB of internal storage. It has a 12 MP + 12 MP rear camera and a 24 MP + 2 MP front facing camera.
However, what is interesting to watch out for is whether the infrastructure for 5G phones will be available by the time the phone is released. While companies like Xiaomi and OnePlus are all set to launch their 5G devices next year. Apple is not on the same page. The company has made it clear that they will only launch their first 5G device in 2020. Apple claims that the reason behind this is that 5G technology will not develop to a stage where users will be able to get 5G connectivity everywhere.
Xiaomi manufactures a wide variety of products including electronics, smartphones, and clothing. The company started selling TVs last year, which like other Xiaomi products, were very aggressively priced. Recently, Xiaomi has launched a 75-inch smart TV which is part of their Mi TV 4S series. The TV has a 4K display panel and it makes use of premium materials like aluminium, unlike the plastic on previous models.
Features And Design
The Mi TV 4S 75 inch stands at a height of 1026 mm and weighs 23.5 kg without the base stand. The essential electronic components are placed on the bottom while the top is very thin and sleek. The front of the MI TV 4S has negligible bezels with an aluminium build. The 75-inch display has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and a viewing angle of 178 degrees. The display has a refresh rate of 60 Hz which provides a smooth viewing experience. The smart TV has 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of inbuilt storage. The Mi TV 4S 75 inch has a quad-core Cortex A53 CPU and Mali 450 GPU. For connectivity, the TV has Bluetooth, Infrared and dual-band (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz) Wi-Fi.
In terms of ports, the TV has 3 HDMI ports, one AV-in port, two USB ports, one ethernet port, and an S/PDIF audio output jack. The Mi TV 4S can play a wide variety of video formats including AVI, FLV, and MP4. The smart TV operates on 195W of power and has two side-firing 8W speakers with Dolby support.
The Mi TV 4S 75-inch has multiple built-in Xiaomi apps like TV Butler, game center, calendar, and app store with which the user can download a lot of other useful apps. It also has PatchWall artificial intelligence speech system to control it via voice commands.
The Mi TV 4S 75-inch is currently available only in China but is expected to soon launch in India. In China, it has a price tag of 7999 Yuan which roughly translates to Rs 81,200 as per the current exchange rates.
Xiaomi is expected to showcase quite a few products at its event in New York next month. Out of the many possibilities, it is rumoured to be the global launch event of the Mi Mix 3 smartphone. However, a new product which has just received its certification could also be one off the debutants at the event. These are a pair of bluetooth wireless earphones by Xiaomi.
FCC Listing
The earphones have received their certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US. The earphones are registered under the model number TWSEJ01JY and bear the name ‘Mi True Wireless Earphones’. The same model has also been cleared for Bluetooth certification. Additionally, a series of leaked images give us a good look at the design of the earphones. The design looks pretty similar to the Apple AirPods and the and the Xiaomi Bluetooth Headphones Youth Edition. Then again, there is nothing much you can do about the design of a pair of wireless earphones.
From the images we can see they have an inward curve to fit snugly into your ears. They also have a charging case, similar to the Apple AirPods. They also come with 3 pairs of silicone earths, to be fitted according to your ear size. The FCC listing also suggests that the earphones will be available in white colour only. The listing also tells us that they are Bluetooth 4.2 compatible. The listing also suggests that the earphones can be controlled using touch and that you can accept and reject calls as well as control music. The earphones also have an LED light and the eartips are also tipped with soft silicone. They will also have active noise cancellation feature.
Additionally, the earphones will charge fully in one hour and the charging case has a battery back up of upto 10 hours. It is expected that the earphones will be priced aggressively just like the Mi AirDots. Xiaomi is known for its disruptive products which challenge competitors with aggressive pricing.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has been launched in India at an event held in New Delhi. It is the successor to the popular Redmi Note 5 Pro and is the latest in Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series. The company also announced that the phone will have its first sale today at 12 PM. The first sale also includes special Black Friday deals for the phone, which will not be available on other days.
Xiaomi has announced the Redmi Note 6 Pro at a price of Rs 13,999 for its 4 GB + 64 GB variant and Rs 15,999 for its 6 GB + 64 GB variant. It is the successor to the highly successful Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro which was previously launched in India. The new smartphone might carry forward multiple specifications from its predecessor but a lot has changed beneath the surface.
Display & Design
The Redmi Note 6 Pro accommodates a 6.26-inch FHD+ display on the front along with a wide notch up top. The screen has a 19:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 px and a pixel density of 403 ppi. Moreover, the smartphone uses a 500 nit brightness display panel which makes the colour even more crisp and improves visibility even in harsh sunlight. The front of the smartphone also has a thick lip at the bottom while the side bezels are considerably thin.
The notch above the display houses the earpiece and dual 20 MP + 2 MP camera sensors. The front cameras of the Redmi Note 6 can also capture 1080p videos a 30 fps. The right side of the device is occupied by the power button and the volume rocker while the hybrid microSD + SIM slot is placed on the left. The top of the smartphone gets a 3.5 mm audio jack, IR blaster and a secondary microphone pinhole. The bottom of the device has the Micro-USB charging port which is flanked by the microphone and loudspeaker grill on either side.
Rear
The aluminum back panel of the Redmi Note 6 Pro harbours the company branding, fingerprint sensor, and the dual 12 MP + 5 MP camera sensors along with with a Dual LED flash. Like the front cameras, the dual rear cameras can also shoot 1080p videos at 30 fps. The rear camera resolution on the Note 6 Pro might be same as its predecessor but it now gets a 1.4 ultra micron size pixel which can absorb more light. Theoretically, this additional light will translate into crisp and better-lit pictures.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 6 Pro features the same Octa-Core Snapdragon 636 SoC which is also present on its predecessor. It runs on MIUI 10 which is built on top of Android 9.0 Pie and is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone supports dual 4G VoLTE, 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0
Another noteworthy feature of the Redmi Note 6 Pro is its P2i liquid repellent nano-coating. The P2i coating does not make it waterproof. However, it will surely allow it to survive unexpected rain drizzles and accidental liquid spillovers.
The Redmi Note 6 Pro is available in four color option which are Black, Rose Gold, Blue, and Red. The smartphone will be Flipkart exclusive and is available in two memory and storage variants which are as follows:
4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM – Rs. 13,999
