Korvaa: A Pair Of Biodegradable Headphones Developed By A Finnish Design Studio

“Electronics” and “Growing” are probably two words that may not have previously co-existed in the past, though not anymore. Reports claim that almost 400 million headphone units were retailed in the year 2018 alone. The highly popular gadgets are fabricated out of a variety of materials such as leather, plastic and mesh, all of which are not exactly environment favourable. As a solution, Finnish Design Studio Aivan has designed the Korvaa headphones that are extremely environment friendly. In fact, the materials used form a crucial basis of the environment itself.

The headband of the Korvaa headset is born out of a 3D printer and designed with the help of a bioplastic formulated from yeast produced lactic acid. Notably, the earcup padding is made out of Hydrophobin. The compound is known for its ability to form a hydrophobic (water-repellent) coating on the surface of an object. It is essentially a foaming protein generated by a type fungus and plant cellulose. Instead of the mesh used in conventional headphones, the Korvaa headset uses a biosynthetic spider silk that is produced by microbes. The outer foam used in the headphones is a composite compound made out of mycelium and cellulose.

The headphones are a result of a joint venture between Avian, Aalto University and VTT Technical Research. First showcased at an event in Helinski, the headphones are still in a prototype stage, which means that except the outer casing, no electronic components are present inside the headset. However, The company aims to incorporate the same “growing electronics” technology in future headphones, so that e-waste generation can be put on hold. If the technology is developed further, bio-engineered products might be a common sight while shopping in the future.

Best Wired Headphones In India Under Rs. 1,000 For April 2019

Since then, many more smartphone OEMs like Huawei, HTC and Sony have expelled the ill-fated headphone jack from their devices. But, the option of listening to music from wired headphones still remains very popular today. Buying the perfect pair can be a daunting task because of the sheer number of options available today. To make the choice easier, we have combined the five best headphones available in the market today for under Rs 1,000.

Featuring a lightweight and compact design, the headphones are very comfortable to wear and easy to carry which make them an ideal choice for frequent travellers. The in-line microphone and controls are intuitive and provide easy command over the music and calls over the headset. In terms of sound quality, the headphones have a punchy bass, which is common for the company’s products and have decent mids and lows.

    Sony MDR-ZX110A Wired Headphones

Sony products are generally known for their great audio performance and the MDR-ZX110A continue the legacy. The ridiculous name aside, the fit and finish of the headphones are comfortable and snug. A major downside of them is the lack of any microphone or any inline control of any sort. The sound output of the headphones is typical Sony, with balanced audio with a focus on trebles and the lack of any overpowering bass. Their association with a renowned brand, along with a good audio output make them one of the best choices under Rs. 1,000.

    Phillips SHP1900/10

  • The Best Peripherals For Your Gaming Setup

The Best Peripherals For Your Gaming Setup

As Gaming PCs are becoming more popular day-by-day, people are starting to invest a fair chunk in building their setups. If a user has invested a majority of his time configuring his/her PC, chances are that he/she might have overlooked an aspect which holds a very important spot in a gaming setup. Peripherals are the basis of any complete setup, and choosing the best ones can be a little tricky. That is the exact reason why professional gamers spend so much time picking out the perfect peripherals for the most optimal experience.

With the evolution of gaming, a lot of brands have emerged which aim to provide catered products as per the consumer base. For instance, streamers may require more flashy and aesthetic peripherals than regular gamers, who might end up focusing more on specifications of the same. The same may also depend on the game in concern. For example, if you play more FPS games than MOBAs, keyboards and mice with fewer add-on keys are perfect for you. Similarly, while playing MOBAs, macro keys and buttons come in handy.

Let’s have a look at some best-in-class gaming peripherals, ranging from keyboards to mice and gaming headphones as well.

    Gaming Keyboards

A lot of people pay more attention to gaming mice rather than the keyboard, but it is important to note that both the peripherals complement each other equally. Since a keyboard can be used for more than one task (for instance, typing and gaming), it makes sense to focus on the keyboard as well. And since membrane keyboards have given way to mechanical keyboards, it would be more viable to get a good mechanical keyboard that serves your purpose.

Listed below are 2 keyboards that offer nearly everything you need in a mechanical gaming keyboard:

    Corsair K95 RGB Platinum

The K95 Platinum is a keyboard that has a plethora of features, which is apparent from its huge size. Keeping in mind that it will occupy its fair share of space in your desk, the K95 RGB Platinum delivers on all fronts. The keyboard has MX Brown switches, which don’t produce as much sound as Cherry MX Blue switches, so the keyboard doesn’t create a huge racquet when you decide to type on it. In terms of functionality, the K95 has a metallic volume wheel, dedicated media controls and above all, class-leading RGB integration, using which you can easily sync it with other peripherals. A detachable wrist rest ensures maximum wrist comfort while playing. Moreover, users can swap the WASD keys with a set of textured keycaps that come bundled with the keyboard.

    HyperX Alloy Elite

If you are on a bit of a budget, the HyperX Alloy Elite is a perfect package. While not as “beautiful” as the Corsair K95, the Alloy Elite packs all the necessary set of features required in a good mechanical gaming keyboard. Customers can choose from Cherry MX Brown, Blue and Red keys on the keyboard. Albeit it doesn’t have a set of dedicated Macro keys, it is priced much lower than the K95 keyboard. Also, the keyboard features just a single Red backlit version for the base model. Similar to the K95 RGB Platinum, it is bundled with an extra set of silver keycaps for the WASD keys as well as 4 number keys. N-key rollover ensures that all the key presses will be registered without any errors.

    Gaming Mice

As mentioned previously, a good gaming mouse always complements the keyboard. This means that the first preference while choosing a gaming mouse is that it should fit the hand’s native grip. There are a total of three general grips: The first is the palm grip, in which the user grips the mouse with his complete hand and rests his/her palm on the rear section of the device. The second grip is the Claw Grip, where the person’s fingertips are almost perpendicular to the mouse click buttons. The last grip is named as the “finger grip” because the fingers rest flat on the mouse click buttons themselves.

Listed below are the two of the best gaming mice available right now.

    Logitech G502

Logitech’s own prized baby, the G502 looks like a hybrid of the Logitech MX518 and G500. Packing one of the best native 16,000 CPI sensors in the market, the G502 weighs at about 121 grams with all its weights removed (the mouse comes bundled with extra weights). The mouse is best for palm grip users and has a premium build quality that makes it a pleasure to use. A notable feature of the mouse is the fact that the scroll wheel of the same can be switched between a notched spinning mode and a free spinning mode.

    Razer Deathadder Elite

Razer Deathadder is a mouse that needs no introduction to gamers. The first generation of the Razer DeathAdder was unveiled in 2006. Since then, the mouse has undergone significant improvements, and almost 10 years later, the Deathadder Elite was launched by the company. The mouse is an all-round performer, and it uses a 16,000 CPI sensor, which is developed by Pixart in collaboration with Logitech. The sensor claims to provide 99.4% resolution accuracy, which means that the mouse delivers best-in-class tracking.

    Headphones

Some of the best games available for PC are enjoyed in isolation. Although getting a good pair of speakers is necessary too, headphones enable you to cut-off from sounds around you and focus on the task at hand. Moreover, multiplayer games require acute sound sense, for hearing the sound of footsteps approaching can be a difference between winning and losing the game. Overall, it has been deduced that wired headphones provide better sound quality, but with technology evolving at an extremely fast pace, wireless headphones have become equally popular.

Given below are two performance-worthy gaming headphones.

    Steelseries Arctis Pro w GameDAC

If you can shell out the money for it, the Steelseries Arctis Pro GameDAC provides the best audio quality available amongst a variety of headphones today. The headphones offer high quality lossless audio streaming feature with a 5Hz-40KHz frequency response range. The headphones sport a modern design, which male them perfect for regular usage as well. The highlight of this headset is the GameDAC, which comprises of the following components:

    1. A Digital-to-analog converter
    2. A preamplifier
    3. A control centre to regulate volume levels

Moreover, aesthetics-wise, an RGB ring encasing the earcups gives the headphones an attractive look.

    HyperX Cloud Alpha

Priced at less than half of the price of Steelseries Artics, the HyperX Cloud Alpha may not have a DAC module, but it is one of the best performers on the scene. Sporting no extra gimmicks, the HyperX Cloud Alpha are bass-rich, making them the perfect companions to both music and gaming. The headphones have 50mm dual chamber neodymium drivers, which accurately reproduce frequencies. The headphones provide a high amount of comfort over long periods of time and feature a decent microphone.

  • Amazon & Qualcomm Partner To Bring Alexa To More Headphones

Amazon & Qualcomm Partner To Bring Alexa To More Headphones

Alexa is Amazon’s virtual assistant which was first seen in 2016 on the Amazon Echo & Amazon Echo Dot smart speakers. Alexa can interact with humans via voice commands making searches easy and natural.

    Widespread Alexa

Amazon is partnering with Qualcomm to bring Alexa voice assistant to more wireless earphones. Qualcomm will develop and manufacture new embeddable chips for other manufacturers who can incorporate them into their earphones. The chip will provide these earphones with Amazon’s voice assistant.

One similar concept is Apple’s AirPods with voice assistant capabilities. Apple AirPods allow users to interact with their virtual assistant Siri by a simple tap. Even Google allows other companies to integrate their Google Now virtual assistant into their wireless earphones. The latest example of it is the Nokia True wireless Earbuds & Pro Wireless Earphones.

Earlier this year, Sony announced that a lot of their earphone models will support Alexa assistant after a software update. Companies like Bose and Jabra also have a few Alexa supporting earphone models in their portfolio. Qualcomm has already showcased a chip that can be integrated by 3rd party manufacturers to attain Alexa support. Qualcomm also said that the partnership with other manufacturers will help them drive down the costs and adoption of their chips. These chips will open up a whole new market for Qualcomm. Hence, they can diverge into other markets and decrease their revenue dependence on mobile phone processors.

This is a bankable future option for Qualcomm. Although, it requires patent licensing and regulatory fees from companies like Apple. At a recent conference held in Hong-Kong, Qualcomm announced they are also working with action camera makers like GoPro to incorporate Qualcomm chips in their devices. Qualcomm expects to achieve $ 5 billion in revenue from non-mobile sources in 2018. This expected revenue will make up for 20% of their sales revenue which according to analysts will be $ 22 billion.

They then translate your reply and play it back to them via the speakers of your Pixel Device. While this is a really helpful and cool feature, it didn’t really pick up. This is because the Pixel Buds weren’t a hit with customers and not everyone has a Pixel smartphone. However, this will change with the new announcement. Now you can access this feature using any Android device coupled with a Google Assistant enabled headphones.  The list of headphones which are capable of doing this at the moment is not very long. It includes the JBL Everest 710GA, Bose QuietComfort 35 II, Sony WH-1000XM2, Sony WI-1000X, OnePlus Bullets and a few more.

Those having any of the above  headphones along with an Android device with Google Assistant, will now be able to use the real-time translation feature. Google announced this through the support page for the Pixel Buds. However, one still needs an active data connection to use this feature.

Audio Technica Announces New Headphones Lineup Including The MSR7 For The Indian Market

Audio Technica on 25th September announced 4 new headphones and a new distributor for the consumer segment products in India. The new headphones announced are the ATH-ANC series, the ATH-ADX5000 and the flagship ATH-MSR37. Audio Technica has also appointed KEI Hi-Fi as their consumer category product distributor for India.

    ATH-ANC Series

    ATH-ANC series

Audio Technica has announced three new headphones in the ATH-ANC series, the in-ear ATH-ANC40BT, and ATH-ANC50iS and ATH-ANC70 over-ear headphones. The ANC in the name stands for Active Noise Cancelation and all the three headphones feature QuietPoint active
noise-cancelation. The ANC40BT are in-ear type headphones, up to 90% noise-cancellation, and 8 hours of battery life. If you do manage to run out of battery, the earphones will work as wired earphones thanks to the 1.2 meter long cable provided by the company. The ATH-ANC50iS provides up to 87% noise cancellation and features an in-line microphone and controller for answering calls and controlling music. The headphones feature a 40mm driver to deliver the sound and just like ANC40BT, will work even if the battery runs out. The ATH-ANC70 provide up to 90% noise-cancelation and have 40mm drivers just like the ANC50iS. The ATH-ANC70 folds flat for storage and comes with a hard-carrying case, a 1/4-inch adapter and airline adapter. The included AAA battery provides up to 40 hours of operation, according to Audio Technica. All the three headphones will be priced in the Rs. 6990 to Rs. 16990 category.

    ATH-AR3BT

The new AR3BT over-ear headphones feature NFC for easy pairing and comes in black or white colour finish with gold trim. The headphones have a 40mm driver similar to the ANC series and Audio Technica claims that a top mounted circuit board design allows fluid movement of the diaphragm to minimise distortion. This should result in clear audio output at any volume levels. These headphones are equipped for long listening sessions and feature a 30 hour battery life. Just like the other Bluetooth headphones announced, the AR3BT has a 1.2 meter long cable to listen to music when the battery dies out. The ATH-AR3BT will be available in October 2017, priced at Rs 13,990.

    ATH-ADX5000

The ADX5000 has a 58mm driver to deliver the sound. You will need an amplifier or a an amp to experience the full capabilities of these headphones as an average smartphone might not be equipped for a 58mm driver. It has an impedance of 420 ohms and weight around 270 gm. According to Audio Technica, the ATH-ADX5000? s ear pads and headband are wrapped in Alcantara which results in comfortable long-hours of listening sessions.

    ATH-MSR7SE

Audio Technica has also announced the blue and gold AT-MSR7 Special Edition headphones. The premium headphones are over-the-ear type and feature the limited edition navy blue finish and gold accent. The technology is inspired by the MSR9 and features the “specially-tuned” 45mm True Motion drivers with a Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) coated diaphragm. Audio-Technica says the limited edition MSR7SE have new pads that are “shaped to boost the lower end Sonics” and will furthermore lead to improved noise isolation.

    Audio Technica states that

The ATH-MSR7SE’s high-resolution sonic performance is further enhanced with a new 6N-OFC oxygen-free copper 1.2-metre cable. Offering 99.99997% copper purity, this cable enables a purer audio transmission for increased clarity and accuracy. In addition to the high-grade 6N-OFC cable, those listening on a smartphone can connect a 1.2 metre cable featuring inline controls and a microphone while a 3.0-metre cable with a longer reach for listening at home is also supplied. To keep the headphones pristine in transit a more robust carry case is provided, while all four cables can be stored in a dedicated carry pouch.

Talking about its appointment of KEI Hi-Fi as the consumer category product distributor, Manabu Aoki, Audio Technica Corporation Japan?s General Manger for the International Division said:

India has been a challenging market for our brand in the consumer segment, with it?s vast geography and varied market requirements. This appointment (of KEI Hi-Fi) will aid Audio-Technica in increasing the distribution spread quickly and offer partners and end users the same rich brand experience that Audio-Technica is known for worldwide and enable us to achieve market shares similar to our other export countries

The new line of headphones will be available from October 2017 in India

Audio-Technica has announced its 2017 flagship headphones, the ATH-ADX5000. Audio-Technica has gone a step further by shipping a briefcase along to carry your US $1999 headphones. The Audio-Technica ATH-ADX5000 will go on sale in November for USD 1999 (Rs 1,27,000 approx), but some people will get a chance to see and hear them during IFA 2017 in Berlin.
