Geekbench, a cross-platform processor benchmarking platform has a new visitor. This time, it is the Samsung Galaxy J8+. The device is expected to have similar specifications as of the Galaxy J8.
One major difference between the Galaxy J8 and the J8+ is the processor. The Galaxy J8 was powered by Exynos 7870 chipset and the J8+ is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset. In fact, the performance of these devices is almost head to head. The Galaxy J8 scores 726 points on single core performance and the J8+ scores 749 points. In terms of multi-core performance, the J8 scores 3643 points and the J8+ scores 3708 points.
Though there is a difference in performance of both devices, these devices will perform identically under day to day usage. However, as Samsung always does the Exynos variant will be highly optimised to get most out of the chipset.
Specifications of Galaxy J8+
The Samsung Galaxy J8+ is expected to have a slightly bigger display, which comes with the model number SM-J805G. Under the hood, the device will have Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa-core chipset with 1.8 GHz clock speed (could be Snapdragon 450) with 4GB RAM and double the storage of the Galaxy J8.
The device runs on Android 8 Oreo with custom Samsung experience UI.
Going by the model number, the SM-J800FN (Galaxy J8) is expected to launch in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Similarly, the Galaxy J8+ with model number SM-J805G is expected to head towards South America.
Recently, there has been a lot of demand for compact notebooks. Apple appears to be preparing to cash in on this demand by launching an affordable MacBook. A report suggests that Apple might launch a new MacBook in Q2 of 2018. This will be a successor of the 12 inch model that was updated in 2017. The device is expected to be priced similarly to the entry-level Air model or slightly higher than that.
The new Macbook is expected to go into mass production from June. These notebooks will be manufactured by two assembly chains. Quantum Computers have said to fulfil 70 percent orders and Foxconn will fulfil rest. Apple is aiming at 6 million device shipments. However, the actual volume is expected to reach 2/3rd of the target.
12 inch MacBook
The displays for the new notebook will be sourced from LG, as there is an issue with the Chinese supplier. The notebook will have a 13.3-inch display with a native 2560 x 1600 px resolution, similar to the current MacBook Pro lineup. Similarly, the upstream supply chain for the production of 2018 iPad Pro, and an inexpensive iPad 2018 have already begun. Also, the company is expected to launch the inexpensive iPad in Q2 of 2018 and the iPad Pro in the second half of 2018.
Expected features of Apple MacBook 2018
As mentioned, the notebook will have a 13.3 inch display with 2560 x 1600 px resolution. Under the hood, the notebook will have Intel’s latest Core M series chipset with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Similarly, the notebook will have a similar form factor as of the original iteration with a butterfly mechanism keypad.
The notebook might also feature Touch ID for the authentification. However, we do not expect the notebook to have Touch Bar.
The Apple iPhone X introduced a new design language to the iPhone lineup. After three generations of very similar looking devices, the iPhone X represented what the future of iPhones would be. And that future includes a notch on the display. Panned at first and appreciated later, the notch on the iPhone X has gained quite the status since September 2017. So much so that the Mobile World Congress 2018 saw plenty of iPhone X clones being unveiled.
Even Google introduced support for a notch in the first developer preview of Android P. This means that the notch is here to stay and Google wants as many apps as possible to be acclimatised with the new aspect ratio. A new report claims that Nokia, too, will launch the Nokia 9 with a notch on top. Apart from that, it might have an in-display fingerprint sensor as well.
Essential Ph-1
The Essential Ph-1, although was the first Android device with a notch, did not really turn heads like the iPhone X did. With companies like Huawei expected to launch their new smartphones with a notch, it looks like Apple’s design decision will shape the industry’s design language as a whole.
Expected Specifications of Nokia 9
Similar to the Nokia 8 Sirocco, the Nokia 9 will have an OLED QHD+ display. An OLED display is a pre-requisite for Clear ID. Under the hood, the device will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with a custom CPU for AI. The device will have premium glass design with support for wireless charging.
Zeiss optics will, in all probability, co-engineer the cameras for the Nokia 9. However, recent reports claim that it might have a Penta-lens setup which will house both the wide angle and telephoto lens.
Xiaomi confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s will be launched in China on March 27th. Subsequently, the company has also teased about some of its features and specifications in the past few days. The device will support wireless charging. Also, the device will have AI-powered dual camera setup. Similarly, a new batch of live images has been leaked, which tells a different tale from what we have heard until now.
As per the newly leaked images, the device has a display similar to the Mi MIX 2, with a front-facing camera located on the bottom left corner. However, this goes against most of the leaks, which predicted a completely bezel-less design. Interestingly, the dual-camera setup is similar to the one found on Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Similarly, an unknown Xiaomi smartphone was also listed on Geekbench with the code name Xiaomi Dipper. The Xiaomi Dipper has 6GB RAM and powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset. The device scored 2449 points on single-core and 8309 on multi-core performance. Since Xiaomi has already confirmed the presence of the Snapdragon 845 chipset, chances are that this could be it.

Specifications of Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s
The smartphone is expected to have a 6 inch 2160 x 1080p display with a notch at the top right corner. Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. However, the smartphone will not support memory expansion.
The device will have an AI-powered dual camera setup. However, the dual camera implementation is yet to be known.
The device is expected to have a 3400 mAH Li-ion battery with wireless and fast charging. The phone will run on Android 8 Oreo OS with custom MIUI 9 skin on the top. However, none of the Xiaomi devices, barring the Mi A1, run on Android 8 Oreo as of now.
Huawei is all set to launch the Huawei P20 Pro, P20, and the P20 Lite on the 27th of March. After skipping a major mobile launch at MWC 2018, the company has been promoting its launch event that will take place in Paris.
After a few leaked renders, a new set of live images have surfaced online of the P20 Lite. The Huawei P20 Lite is expected to be the most affordable one of the three smartphones.
The leaked photo shows the back-side of the upcoming Huawei P20 Lite in Orchid Blue colour. Similarly, the smartphone has a dual primary camera setup with a rear-facing fingerprint sensor with a blurred IMEI information. In fact, this is the only P20 model, which has a rear-facing fingerprint sensor.
Specifications of Huawei P20 Lite
The smartphone is expected to have a 6 inch display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution. Under the hood, it will have the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset along with 4GB or 6GB of RAM. However, as this is a Lite edition, we expect the company to go with a Kirin 600 series chipset, instead of Kirin 970.
While the smartphone will be thin, it is expected to house a big battery that will support SuperCharge. The Huawei P20 Lite is expected to have a 16 MP + 2 MP primary camera setup and a 16 MP front-facing camera.
Motorola and its high-end Moto Z series are known for their modularity. The Moto Z smartphones are compatible with all the MotoMods that the company has launched. The Mods attach to the back of the smartphones like a lego to add extra functionality. Mods like a JBL speaker, Hasselblad camera Mod also comes with their own battery. In fact, these Moto Mods works fine with both the generations of Moto Z devices.
Virtual Viewer MotoMod
An upcoming MotoMod, which is similar to the Google Day Dream VR headset has been leaked online. This could be the first VR centric mod from the company. However, things are not very clear and there is no information on the specifications.
The round camera cut-out is similar to the one that we have seen in all of the MotoMods. The Mod has an opening on the right and the left side, which should help for the sliding mechanism. The camera cut-out might hint towards the AR capabilities of the Mod. However, the leak does not suggest anything about its functions, capabilities, or even the pricing.
A recent report has claimed that Motorola will only focus on mods that are profitable. This means that niche mods like the gamepad or Polaroid camera might be scraped off. However, virtual reality has recently picked up the pace which means that the Moto Virtual Viewer makes sense for the company. There is a lot of VR content available now. However, the pricing will be key to the success of this MotoMod.
Xiaomi is getting ready to launch its premium Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s in China. Similarly, the company is silently testing out a new smartphone with the codename Berlin. The Xiaomi Berlin is powered by Snapdragon 632 Hex-core chipset. However, this is an unannounced chipset from Qualcomm.
Xiaomi is known for launching the smartphones with the newest chipsets in the past. In fact, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first smartphone to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset. This could be a wrong report, as the Geekbench clearly mentions that, the chipset has 6 cores with a base frequency of 1.02 GHz. In fact, the chipset is expected to have octa-core CPU.
Specifications of Xioami Berlin
The smartphone has been spotted on the latest Geekbench 4.2.0, which does not say anything about the display size or resolution. Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 Hexa-core chipset with 3GB RAM. Similarly, looking at the benchmark, the device scores 1155 points on the single-core and 2738 points on the multi-core performance. This means the chipset might be based on the custom Kryo 280 CPU.
The smartphone runs on Android 7 Nougat. Similarly, the device is expected to feature MIUI skin on the top. However, looking at the specifications we can consider that, the Xiaomi Berlin will be Redmi series smartphone.
Xiaomi will launch the Mi MIX 2S in China on the 27th of March. Over the past few weeks, the leaks of the new device have been on a rise. A few weeks ago, we barely had one sketchy looking render of the Mi MIX 2S. However, new live images of the smartphone have surfaced online that differ from the previous information we have had about the Mi MIX 2S.
Leaked Video Reveals A Tiny Notch On Top
The leaked images reveal a uniform bezel-less design, unfamiliar with the MIX series. The bezels on all four sides are extremely thin and there is no notch on the top right corner. While that would’ve surely been an interesting design, these images look pretty good, too. The front-camera might not be visible but, it is housed in the bottom bezel where the home button usually resides. Could we see gestures for navigation on the Mi MIX 2S? Maybe, since they were introduced in MIUI 9 Beta for the Mi MIX 2.
The back of the phone is not visible in the photos. However, Xiaomi and later on, XDA Developersconfirmed that the Mi MIX 2S will indeed have a dual-camera setup with AI capabilities. It will be interesting to see what the back of the device will be made of. Multiple leaks suggest that it will be the first Xiaomi smartphone to support wireless charging.
However, that will clash with another set of images. A few days ago, a leaked image of the back of the device revealed that it will have an iPhone X-like dual-camera setup with a ceramic back.

Expected specifications of Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S
The smartphone is expected to have a 6 inch 2160 x 1080p display with a notch at the top right corner. Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. However, the smartphone will not support memory expansion.
Vivo, the smartphone brand that is known for its selfie-centric smartphones is all set to launch a new device in India. The Vivo V9 could be the first Android smartphone to launch here with an iPhone X style notch. The smartphone is expected to be priced at Rs 25,000, which makes it costlier than its predecessor. However, there has been no confirmation of a launch event yet. In fact, the Vivo V9 has only been spotted on billboards in Indonesia.
Specifications of Vivo V9
The smartphone is expected to have a 2160 x 1080px IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone will feature bezel-less design, with a tiny notch on the top, which is expected to house the earpiece and front-facing camera.
Under the hood, the device will be powered by an Octa-core chipset. However, there is no information regarding exact chipset. The smartphone is expected to feature at least 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Similarly, the smartphone is also expected to have a dedicated micro SD card.
The Vivo V9 will have a 16MP primary camera and a 24MP front-facing camera. Similarly, the front-facing camera is expected to support face unlock. The device will run on Android 8 Oreo with custom UI on the top with a 3500 mAh battery. The smartphone will have dual SIM card slot with 4G LTE and VoLte capability.
Over the past couple of years, OnePlus has gained a loyal fanbase in markets like India. One of the main reasons for that is its devices’ price and the specifications they provide at that price. However, there has been a steady increase in the prices of OnePlus devices. The OnePlus 5 received a lot of flak for a hike in its price.
In 2018, OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 6, and in all probability, the OnePlus 6T. While the OnePlus 6T is far away right now, the OnePlus 6 is expected to be launched in the next couple of months. So far, we know that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset and have up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
OPPO R15
Recently, a leaked image of the OnePlus 6 revealed that, like so many of new Android devices, it could also have an iPhone X-like notch. However, it won’t go all out Apple route as the back of the device doesn’t look anything like an iPhone X. However, it is expected to move away from the aluminium build and embrace the “glass sandwich” design. The image shows that the OnePlus 6 will have a shiny back made of glass which means it could support wireless charging.
However, we might get a better look at the possible OnePlus 6 when the OPPO R15 is launched in China. The R15 is tipped to have a design very similar to what is being speculated for the OnePlus 6. A trailer of the OPPO R15 has been leaked, which reveals a glass back with a shiny finish and a dual-camera setup.
OnePlus 6 Leaked Image
The OnePlus 5 was essentially the OPPO R11 with better hardware and the same was with the 5T and R11s. Similarly, we expect the OnePlus 6 to be almost identical to the OPPO R15 which is due to launch soon. If so, we could have an early look at what the OnePlus 6 might turn out to be, eventually. It is, however, worth noting that the shape of the fingerprint sensor on the OPPO R15 is different than the leaked image of the OnePlus 6.
Also, the dual-camera setup of the R15 looks more like the OnePlus 5T. The leaked image of the OnePlus 6 tells us a different story about the dual cameras which are placed vertically. There is no denying that the OnePlus 5’s comparison to the iPhone 7 Plus was mainly due to the camera placement. However, OnePlus has no reason to tinker with that. After all, it is a leaked image and the end product could be different.
OnePlus 5
The most interesting aspect of the OnePlus 6 will be the apparent notch. The same notch is found on the OPPO R15, in fact, it is rumoured to sport a 19:9 aspect ratio. The Asus Zenfone 5Z also has the same aspect ratio and a notch, and similar design is expected from the OnePlus 6. However, what is yet to be seen is whether the notch on the OnePlus 6 will serve any purpose. Apple went with a notch to not only house a lot of sensors in it, but, to also keep the bezels uniform on the rest of the three sides.
However, what we have seen so far from Android smartphone makers is blatant copying without a cause. Even the Zenfone 5Z has a bigger chin which defeats the purpose of a protruded area. OnePlus has shown its keenness to Face Unlock with the OnePlus 5T. Hence, it won’t be surprising if the OnePlus 6 has an advanced facial recognition system to compete with Face ID. In that case, a notch would definitely serve a purpose and its existence will be justified.
Huawei is getting ready for its biggest launch of 2018 on the 27th of March to unveil the P20 series. However, it is not stopping the brand from launching other smartphones like the Huawei SE in the US. A new device from the company has passed the FCC certification, which is expected to be launched at in the US.
The Huawei Y9 2018 looks similar to the Honor 7x with a few cosmetic changes. In fact, the company has started teasing a new smartphone launch with the quote “best 4G smartphone”, which is expected to be launched on the 15th of March. The company recently launched Huawei Mate 10 Pro in the US. In fact, the company also made an exclusive deal with AT&T to offer its devices on a contract basis. However, AT&T pulled out of the deal at the last minute due to anonymous security concerns.
As a result, Huawei smartphones are available in the US in an unlocked or off-contract model. However, most of the smartphone buyers in the US prefer contract based models, which is stopping the company from being a successful smartphone brand.
Expected specifications of the Huawei Y8
The smartphone has a 5.93 inch FHD+ 2160 x 1080px IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The device will be powered by Kirin 659 Octa-core chipset with 3/4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
The phone has a rear dual camera setup with a 16MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary depth sensor. Similarly, the phone has a dual front-facing camera with a 13MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor, which helps to capture depth effect. In fact, the primary camera setup is similar to the Honor 7x and the front-facing camera setup is similar to the Honor 9 Lite.
Honor 9 Lite
The device will run on Android 8 Oreo with custom EMUI on the top with face unlock. The device still has a micro USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The volume rockers and power button are on left side and the SIM tray is on the right side.
Before Apple launched the iPhone X, there were enough speculations that it would be different from anything we had soon thus far. Leaks pointed to an unusual design language with a notch on top. However, nobody knew what purpose this notch was going to solve. At the launch event, Apple launched the iPhone X with its notch and Face ID. However, what felt like an aberration back in September, is now becoming a trend.
But, it looks like the notch was a temporary fix for Apple. A report from South Korea’s Electronic Times claims that the iPhones in 2019 will not have a notch. In fact, the display will completely “fill the front of new iPhones”. This means that Apple is already working on a way to embed all the sensors and the front-camera inside the display.
iPhone X Notch
That being said, the report apparently cites a few inside sources who are familiar with the matter. However, we have not seen any patents granted to Apple that take this route of embedding sensors and camera inside the display. Although, we came across a Samsung patent that envisions something similar. It is fair to assume that this will be the eventual future of smartphones, as companies strive for a truly bezel-less phone.
The possibility of Apple going the Vivo APEX route also seems scarce. Having moving parts inside a smartphone doesn’t seem like a great idea. Since iPhones are made in such enormous quantities, quality assurance will also be an issue with a pop-up camera.
Asus Zenfone 5Z
Conclusion
While the iPhone X received a lot of flak initially, the notch has become iconic. A lot of Android smartphones launched at MWC 2018 sport a notch as well but, without any real purpose. Maybe, with 2019 iPhones launching without a notch, 2020 Android smartphones will also ditch it.
The flagship smartphones from Huawei are known for the camera capabilities. In fact, Huawei is the only smartphone maker that works with the Leica, which manufactures optics for the high-end cameras. This year, smartphones like the Pixel 2, iPhone X, and Galaxy S9 have proven their camera capabilities.
Huawei P20 Pro
The upcoming Huawei P20 series smartphones are also expected to concentrate a lot on their camera performance. A series of leaks have revealed that the Huawei P20 Pro will have a triple Leica branded camera setup. Similarly, these newly leaked renders from a tipster corroborate the same.
The leaked renders of the Huawei P20 series are in line with most of the speculations. The Huawei P20 Pro has a notch and a triple Leica branded camera setup. The Huawei P20 has a notch and a dual Leica branded camera setup and the P20 Lite has a dual camera setup. Similarly, the Huawei P20 Pro and P20 have a front-facing fingerprint sensor while the P20 Lite has a fingerprint scanner on the back.
Specifications of Huawei P20 Pro
The smartphone is expected to have a 6 inch 2880 x 1440 px OLED display with a notch on the top. Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by the Kirin 970 chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. In fact, the smartphone is expected to support native face unlock algorithm similar to the iPhone X.
The device is also expected to offer a wide range of AI capabilities, which is expected to improve the smartphone photography.
The smartphone is likely to house a triple lens primary camera setup with RGB + wide angle + telephoto lens combination. On to the front, the smartphone is likely to have dual camera setup. In fact, the dual front-facing camera can aid the facial recognition system as well.
Summary:
6 inch OLED Display with a notch

OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus 6 in mid-2018. While the launch of the smartphone is still a few months away, leaks about it have been in full swing. Recently, an image of the OnePlus 6 revealing the shiny glass design was leaked. Similarly, it was leaked that the OnePlus 6, just like many other Android devices, would support a notch.
According to a leak, a new OnePlus smartphone with the model number A6000 has been leaked. In fact, the device was spotted on AnTuTu scoring 276510 points. The OnePlus 5 carried the model number A5000, hence, it makes sense for the OnePlus 6 to be A6000. The device has broken the previous record set by the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s. The device has a 19:9 aspect ratio display, which suggests the existence of the notch on the top similar to the Asus ZenFone 5z.
OnePlus 6 sporting a notch should not be that surprising. The OnePlus 5 looked uncannily similar to the iPhone 7 Plus at the time of its launch. However, the company did change things up a bit with the OnePlus 5T.

OnePlus 6 Specifications
The device will have a 6.2 inch 2160 x 1080 px Optic AMOLED display with a higher screen to body ratio. The device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB, similar to the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
OnePlus 5T
There will be a tiny notch up front, which will house the front-facing camera and the earpiece with an LED flash unit. In fact, the smartphone is expected to have a Face ID like feature, which uses the front-facing camera. Hence, we could see some extra sensors in that notch to enable a much more secure facial recognition system. That will also sort of justify the notch, just like on the iPhone X.
The device will have a dual primary camera setup, similar to the OnePlus 5T, were, the secondary sensor will be used for low light photography.
Conclusion
In the last few years, the company didn’t have any contenders in the affordable flagship market. However, now the market has many interesting smartphones like the Asus ZenFone 5z and the Honor View10, which costs much less than the OnePlus 5T. Similarly, this year will be a real challenge for OnePlus and its devices.
Over the years, OnePlus devices have taken “inspiration” from OPPO devices. The OnePlus 5, for instance, looked similar to the OPPO R11 while the 5T looked uncannily similar to the R11s. With the OPPO R15 launch expected soon, it won’t be surprising if the OnePlus 6 turns out to be a more powerful R15.
At the recently concluded MWC 2018, LG unveiled the V30S ThinQ. This is not a completely new flagship instead, it is exactly like the LG V30 with an AI camera app. However, it is fair to assume that LG had much better plans for one of the largest mobile events in the world. The LG G7 was expected to be launched as a 2018 flagship smartphone.
That, however, did not happen as the company decided to overhaul its next flagship. The CEO of LG Mobiles conceded that the company would no longer follow a pattern for launching smartphones. This paved the way for a refresh of the LG V30 with trendy AI camera capabilities. However, the LG V30S ThinQ with its unusually long name was not the only LG device present at MWC 2018.
A leaked report suggests that the company had a plan to launch the flagship LG G7 at MWC 2018. In fact, it was even showed off behind closed doors. However, an Israeli publication managed to record a video of the upcoming LG G7 and it has astonishing features.
Renders
Studying the leaked video TechnoBuffalo and leaker, Benjamin Geskin have come up with renders of the G7. The renders reveal the possible design of the LG G7 (or whatever the company decides to call it). The most striking design aspect of the smartphone is the notch on the display. MWC 2018 saw a lot of smartphones launch with a notch. So much so that the iPhone X no longer looks like the odd one out.
Apart from the notch, the dual-cameras will be placed vertically on the back of the device. However, the placement is different from the ones found on the iPhone X. The fingerprint sensor will be placed just below the camera module. Similar to a lot of recent LG flagship smartphones, it will have an all-glass build with an aluminium frame.
Expected Specifications
The LG G7 is expected to have a 6 inch pOLED display with a 2880 x 1440 px resolution. Until Corning comes up with Gorilla Glass 6, we expect most flagship smartphones to have the Gorilla Glass 5 on top.
Under the hood, the G7 will have the Snapdragon 845 chipset. One of the primary issues with the LG G6 was its older chipset. By no means was the Snapdragon 821 a bad chipset but, the Galaxy S8 with the Snapdragon 835 made the G6 look archaic. However, that won’t happen this time around as Samsung no longer has exclusive access to the new chipset.
LG G7 Leaked Images
Features like water resistance, wireless charging and fast charging are expected to be retained. The dual-camera setup on the back will be placed vertically, this time around. The implementation is expected to be the same as the G6 and V30. A regular lens coupled with a wide-angle lens. This is also something that has been appreciated by many LG users.
Conclusion
There is no denying that LG has seen a rapid decline in its smartphone business. Veterans like Apple, Samsung and new entrants like Xiaomi and OnePlus have had much more popular products in the market. However, a rebranding of sorts and high-end specifications might sway consumers toward an LG flagship device.
