    On the 2nd of May, LG launched its new flagship smartphone, the LG G7 ThinQ. The smartphone’s unusually long name might put some people off. Nevertheless, the smartphone has high-end specs, build and design as the company plans to resurrect its smartphone business. It is fair to say that a lot is riding on the success or failure of the LG G7. To promote the smartphone in Canada, LG is giving away a 43 inch 4K smart TV to people who preorder the LG G7 ThinQ.

    Colour Variants

    The promotion will run from May 18th to May 31st. This gives users a lot of time to decide whether they want to buy the smartphone. The offer is available to users who pre-order the smartphone through a qualifying carrier and retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, Rogers, Bell, and Telus. A couple of months ago, Sony was giving away a PS4 or PSVR with every order of the Xperia XZ2. So, it isn’t unusual for brands to give away extravagant products. However, a 4K smart TV from LG and the G7 ThinQ is a great deal for LG-loving Canadians.

    The G7 ThinQ has a 6.1 inch IPS LCD display with a 3120 x 1440 px resolution. The device has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio which will come in handy when the user decides to hide the notch.

    Under the hood, the smartphone runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The storage will be expandable via a microSD card. Powering the G7 ThinQ is a 3000 mAh battery with QuickCharge 4.o and wireless charging. The G7 ThinQ+ will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

    The new flagship smartphone will run Android 8 Oreo out of the box LG’s AI Pack 2.0. LG has announced that it plans to push out an update for Android P as soon as Google launches it.

    The fingerprint sensor placed on the back of the smartphone no longer doubled up as a power button. The power button now sits on the right side of the device in a more conventional position. Interestingly, there is a Google Assistant button placed below the volume rockers on the left side. The button is not remappable right now and can only be disabled if a user is not a fan of the Google Assistant. AI is a theme well spread out throughout LG’s UI here. The camera app has an AI Cam button wherein the camera can sense a scene and automatically tweak certain settings for, theoretically, a better shot.

    To the back of the smartphone is a vertically placed dual-camera setup. The primary 16MP wide-angle sensor has an f/1.9 aperture while the secondary 16MP RGB sensor has an f/1.9 aperture. To the front of the device is an 8MP camera with an f/1.9 aperture.

    LG is clearly trying to push people into buying its new flagship. A lot is riding on the G7 ThinQ and LG would hope that this lucrative offer convinces a lot of consumers (in Canada, at least) to buy the LG G7 ThinQ over devices like the OnePlus 6 or Galaxy S9.

After a few other OEMs, LG also embraced the infamous notch with G7 ThinQ. Now, it looks like the company will revert to the old design for its upcoming smartphone, the LG V35 ThinQ.

    The LG V35 ThinQ will be a follow-up to the V30, which was launched in India in December 2017. New renders of the LG V35 ThinQ reveal that LG might not be fond of the design of G7 ThinQ. The company will move back to a traditional design with uniform bezels all around the bezels. This could be a good news for people looking to buy an LG smartphone but, are not the biggest fans of the notch.

    Another reason for LG not going for notched display could be to differentiate the lineups. It is also rumoured that the V35 ThinQ will have an OLED panel like its predecessor. The G7 ThinQ has an LCD display and LG has talked up its brightness levels up until now. This means that LG does want differentiating factors between the two lineups and the notch could be a major factor.

    According to the leaks, the LG V35 ThinQ will have a 6 inch QHD+ OLED “FullVision” display. The device will have an 18:9 aspect ratio and an 80% screen-to-body ratio.

    Under the hood, the smartphone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The onboard storage is expected to expandable via a microSD card. The one feature that could make its way to the V35 ThinQ from the G7 is the Google Assistant button. As the name of the smartphone suggests, the V35 will have a lot of emphasis on AI.

    The LG V30 was launched in August in 2017 but, the V35 ThinQ probably won’t follow the same pattern. The smartphone is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2018 as LG would want to launch new smartphones as and when required.

Ever since the iPhone X was launched, we have seen more Android OEMs have embraced the notch with devices like the Huawei P20 Pro, Asus Zenfone 5Z. The latest to join the list is the LG G7 ThinQ.

    LG, however, claims that it did not imitate the iPhone X. Hwang Jeong-hwan, chief of LG’s mobile division in an interview said:

    We planned the notch design before Apple. The display design may look similar to that of other smartphones, but boasts differentiated features.

    The LG G7 ThinQ is not the last smartphone to sport a notch, though. The OnePlus 6, scheduled for a May 16th launch will also have an iPhone X-like notch. Google has also recognised the growing popularity of the notch and decided to introduce a feature in the first developer’s preview of Android P. We expect Android P to have better support for this design and more apps will be acclimatised with various kinds of notches in the near future.

    After a rehashed launch strategy and new design, the LG G7 ThinQ is official. LG has launched its new flagship smartphone with an unusually long name that might put some people off. Nevertheless, the smartphone has high-end specs, build and design as the company plans to resurrect its smartphone business.

    The G7 ThinQ will launch in India on the 25th of May and could be priced at Rs 54999 for the 4GB RAM model. The company has announced that the smartphone will be available in Platinum Gray, Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue and Raspberry Red colour variants. Even before the launch, LG started hinting at a few new features of the LG G7 ThinQ like its Boombox speakers. Apparently, this speaker will increase the base sound level by more than 6dB with twice the amount of bass. LG believes that this translates to more than ten times the loudness than that of an average smartphone. The bass can further be amplified by placing the device on a solid surface or box.

    The LG G7 ThinQ will launch on the 2nd of May. The smartphone was supposed to launch at MWC 2018 but, the company decided to skip the event and work on its next flagship a bit more. Now, after months of speculations around the future of LG G series of smartphones, the G7 ThinQ is ready for its debut. So far, the smartphone maker has revealed a few details about the device and now, detailed specifications of the G7 have been leaked.

    According to the report, the LG G7 ThinQ will probably be priced below under 640 Euros in some markets. This is a significantly lower price than the Galaxy S9 that retails for 849 Euros.

    LG revealed that the G7 ThinQ will have a 6.1 inch LCD display with a resolution of 3210 x 1440 px. The highlight of the LG G7 ThinQ, according to the company, will be the brightness of the display. The ‘Super Bright Display’ goes up to 1000 nits while consuming up to 30% less power than the LG G6’s. Apparently, the screen also covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The specifications mentioned are not the best in class or nothing we haven’t seen before. However, if LG is talking up the display of the G7 ThinQ so much, then there has to be something in the execution that LG has done differently.

    The LG G7 ThinQ will have a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, same as the iPhone X and taller than the 18:9 G6. This taller aspect ratio is the result of a notch on the display which has become quite common for Android smartphones in 2018. LG has also claimed that the chin of the G7 ThinQ is about 50% smaller than the chin on the G6. However, it still won’t be as thin as the iPhone X and would be comparable to the OnePlus 6 (which also has a notch).

    Under the hood, the G7 will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset which will be coupled with either 4GB or 6GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The fingerprint sensor will sit on the rear of the device which won’t double up as a power button. The power button has now been moved to the side of the smartphone in a more conventional position. Also, the G7 ThinQ will have a hardware button dedicated to the Google Assistant, just like the Bixby button found on new Galaxy flagship devices.

    Powering the device will be a 3000 mAh battery and support for QuickCharge 4.0. The G7 ThinQ will run Android 8 Oreo out of the box with LG’s own custom skin on top. According to the LG, the upcoming smartphone will have a “Boombox Speaker.” Apparently, this speaker will increase the base sound level by more than 6dB with twice the amount of bass. LG believes that this translates to more than ten times the loudness than that of an average smartphone. Considering the size of the smartphone, this could be a remarkable achievement for LG. The bass can further be amplified by placing the device on a solid surface or box.

    The G7 ThinQ will also have a dual-camera setup on the back. The 16MP primary camera will be an RGB sensor with an f/1.6 aperture while the secondary 16MP camera will also have the same f/1.6 aperture. Similar to previous gen LG flagship devices, the secondary 16Mp camera could also be equipped with a wide-angle lens.

    The LG G7 ThinQ has a huge job of reviving a dwindling smartphone business of LG. With a refreshed design and new launch strategy, the LG G7 ThinQ would want to replicate the success of some of the earlier LG smartphones.

    The company has confirmed that the LG G7 ThinQ will have a 6.1 inch LCD display with a resolution of 3210 x 1440 px.     The LG G7 ThinQ is just a few days away from its official launch and LG would be banking on the new flagship smartphone to help revive the flailing smartphone business of LG. The availability and pricing of the G7 ThinQ in India will be revealed soon after its global launch.

    Evan Blass, who recently posted a render of the G7 ThinQ, hs not posted a new image that shows off the upcoming flagship device from all angles. Interestingly, the renders also confirm that the LG G7 ThinQ will indeed have a Google Assistant button, similar to the Bixby Button found on recent Samsung flagship smartphones. As has been the case with other LG smartphones, the company has retained the 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom of the device. We expect the G7 ThinQ to also have a high-quality DAC for better sound production via the headphone jack.

    Other than that, the render just reaffirms a few aspects of the G7 ThinQ that we already knew of. The LG G7 ThinQ will have an iPhone X like notch at the top but, also have a chin at the bottom. While Apple was able to maintain uniform bezels across the three sides of the iPhone X by curving the OLED display from the bottom, LG might not go that route. As the CEO of OnePlus explained, while that is an effective way to get rid of the chin, it is also a very expensive way. Keeping that in mind, LG would want to make sure the G7 ThinQ is priced close to the Galaxy S9 to make it competitive.

    The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back of the device, just below a vertically dual-camera setup. Unlike previous LG phones, the fingerprint sensor won’t double up as a power button. Instead, this time around, LG has taken a more conventional route by placing the power button on the side.

    Artificial Intelligence, as touted by many, is the future of smartphones and the world in general. Google showed us what machine learning can do with the great camera performance of Google Pixel 2 devices. Now, LG appears to have taken the next step in adopting AI for the upcoming LG G7 ThinQ.

    The LG G7 ThinQ, scheduled for a May 2nd launch, will have a physical button to trigger the Google Assistant. The smart assistant by Google is readily available in Android smartphones running Android 6 Marshmallow and newer. LG wants to take the integration to a whole new level by dedicating a physical button to just the Google Assistant. This won’t be the first time that such a precedence is given to the Google Assistant. The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have something called Edge Sense, which allows users to squeeze the frame of their Pixel 2 to trigger Google Assistant.

    In 2017, Samsung launched the Galaxy S8 and S8+ with a similar “feature.” The flagship devices had a dedicated button to bring up Bixby, Samsung’s own smart assistant. In the beginning, there were apps that let users remap the button but, Samsung soon made that impossible via an update. However, the company soon heard the complaints and allowed users to at least disable the button. Interestingly, Samsung persisted with the “Bixby Button” for the Galaxy S9 and S9+ as well.

    Apparently, the case of the LG G7 ThinQ won’t be too different either. The Google Assistant button won’t be remappable to some other app or task. This will definitely bother some people and could be a potential deal breaker for many. This decision is line with LG’s broader smartphone strategy of 2018 so far, which is to push AI as much as it can. The LG V30s ThinQ had a few AI features and was launched at MWC 2018. The G7 ThinQ is also expected to have AI capabilities along with a few AI modes in its camera app.

    How the Google Assistant button will work and what its implications will be on daily usage is something that only time and testing will tell. The launch of the LG G7 ThinQ is on 2nd of May and we will get to know more details about it at the launch event.

The LG G7 ThinQ will be the beginning of LG’s revamping process of its flagship smartphones. So far, it looks like the G7 ThinQ will be quite an offering from LG with its new design.

    A new render of the LG G7 ThinQ re-affirming one key detail and revealing a significant design change has been leaked online. It has been a known secret that the LG G7 ThinQ will sport a notch like the iPhone X. The new render re-affirms that and also gives us a glimpse of the size of the chin the G7 ThinQ will have.

    CEO of OnePlus, Carl Pei explained that the only reason the iPhone X doesn’t have a chin is that it has a curved display. At the bottom of each display is a ribbon for connecting it to the device’s logic board, which means a thin chin becomes necessary. Apple decided to curb that with a flexible OLED, which, even though is a great solution, it is also an expensive one.

    One significant design change that the render reveals is the placement of the power button. LG flagship devices like the G6, V30 have had the power button housed in the fingerprint sensor on the back. However, the power button on the LG G7 ThinQ will have a more conventional placement on the left-hand side of the device.

    The LG G7 ThinQ is expected to run on the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset and have up to 6GB of RAM. Like LG did with the V30 ThinQ, the LG G7 ThinQ will have a few AI capabilities. The camera app on the G7 ThinQ will have smart scene detection modes wherein the camera will automatically adjust settings depending on the lighting conditions and the scene detected.

OnePlus has already conceded that the OnePlus 6 will have a notch and the conversation is bound to be fueled once the LG G7 ThinQ is launched. Unfortunately, the leaked images do not reveal the bottom part of the smartphone, which means we can’t say for certain whether the G7 ThinQ will also have a chin. However, recent renders have imagined the device to sport a chin, just like the OnePlus 6 will.

Under the hood, the device will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core chipset with 4/6GB RAM. The smartphone will have 64GB or 128GB internal storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot. The smartphone is also likely to have an IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. A CAD-based 3D render has also confirmed that the smartphone will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack.

    The smartphone will have a dual primary camera setup with a 16MP RGB sensor and a 16MP wide angle sensor with an f/1.5 aperture. However, after the Galaxy S9 was launched with a variable feature, we could see the LG G7 ThinQ sporting something similar. So far, we do not know much about the front-facing camera.
