The phone is an interesting proposition but at the price of $1299, which is around Rs. 93,000 in India. The phone seems a little too expensive for the price. The phone seems even more expensive when you consider that it has dated internals and is from a relatively unknown manufacturer.

Meizu 16 Benchmark Leak Overtakes OnePlus 6

Meizu is a Chinese electronics manufacturing company, has made its name in the smartphone industry. Its latest upcoming smartphone is expected to be the Meizu 16.  The first leak for the device was the front panel glass leak. Posted on Weibo, the panel features thin Samsung-like bezels. This may be the first phone from the company to feature an almost bezel-less display. The latest leaks reveal the benchmark score of the smartphone.

    Meizu 16

The leaks reveal that the Maize 16 scored a whopping 291,866 while OnePlus scored 284,642 on AnTuTu. Similarly, a smartphone marketed for gaming, the Mi Black Shark also scored 288,222. This score is far less than that of Meizu’s new device. The company launched the Meizu 15 in April of 2018, to which this smartphone will be a successor.

    Meizu 16

Although not much is known about the device, we speculate that Meizu 16 could feature a 6.1-inch display. The display resolution of the device could be 2960 x 1440 px with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The company might use an OLED panel for the smartphone. This smartphone could be the company’s 2018 flagship.

  • Meizu 6T With Dual Cameras, 18:9 Aspect Ratio To Launch On May 29th

Meizu 6T With Dual Cameras, 18:9 Aspect Ratio To Launch On May 29th

Founded in 2003, Meizu is one of the many smartphone brands to branch out of China in recent years. The company has a few interesting smartphones in its portfolio including the Meizu Note 8 which looks uncannily similar to a certain Galaxy Note8. Apart from lookalikes, the company has its own distinguished smartphones as well, one of them will be the Meizu 6T, scheduled to launch on May 29th in China.

The company set the date for the unveiling of its new budget smartphone without giving much away about the device. However, the Meizu M811Q that recently got certified by TENNA is, in all certainty, the Meizu 6T. The smartphone will be China-exclusive and probably won’t make its way to other countries like India.

The Meizu 6T will have a 5.7 inch display with a 1440 x 720 px resolution and a 2.5D curved glass on top. The 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution has become very common among budget smartphones these days.

Under the hood, the 6T will run on a 1.5GHzocta-core processor. This processor will be paired with 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB storage, respectively. The storage will be expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card. Whether the 6T will have a separate microSD card slot is yet to be seen. The fingerprint sensor lies on the back of the device just below the camera module.

Must Read: Nokia X6 Will Launch In India Soon

Powering the Meizu 6T is a 3230mAh battery which will charge via a micro USB slot. Out of the box, the smartphone will run Android 7 Nougat with FlymeOS on top. It is still baffling to see smartphones launching in mid-2018 running Android 7 Nougat.

The 6T has a dual-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 13MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The depth sensor will allow for portrait shots, a popular feature among smartphones. To the front is an 8MP camera.

OnePlus recently hinted at the launch of the OnePlus 6T, which is expected to debut in Q4 2018. But, it looks like Meizu will beat its Chinese counterpart on the launch of a 6T!

  • Meizu 15 Smartphones Launched Sans Notch Or 18:9 Display

Meizu 15 Smartphones Launched Sans Notch Or 18:9 Display

The herd behaviour of the smartphone industry is at showcase every year. This year and a better part of 2017 was all about 18:9 aspect ratio and thin bezels. However, a dubious trend has also caught on this year, and that is of the notch. Ever since the iPhone X was launched, a lot of smartphone makers have embraced the notch, without actually implementing it the way Apple did. Meizu, on the other hand, has gone a completely different route with its trio of Meizu 15 smartphones.

Meizu, the Chinese smartphone maker celebrated its 15th anniversary by launching the Meizu 15 lineup of smartphones. The new Android devices follow an old formula to stand out from the crowd. The Meizu 15 Plus, Meizu 15 and Meizu 15 Lite have a 16:9 aspect ratio and no notch. This is not a very common sight  for new smartphone launches from Chinese smartphone makers, especially in 2018.

    Meizu 15 Plus

The most high-end of the three smartphones, the Meizu 15 Plus has a 5.95 inch Super AMOLED display with a 2560 x 1440 px resolution. Under the hood, the Meizu 15 Plus runs on the Samsung-made Exynos 8890 chipset. This is the same chipset found on the Galaxy S8 in India. This chipset is coupled with 6GB of RAM. Powering the smartphone is a 3500 mAh battery which charges via a USB Type C port. Interestingly, the round fingerprint sensor sits below the display in the bottom bezel. The fingerprint sensor looks a lot of like a smaller version of Touch ID.

To the back of the smartphone is a dual-camera setup placed vertically. Both the sensors are produced by Sony and have 20 megapixels and 12 megapixels, with 3X lossless zoom, a 1.55nm pixel size, OIS, an f/1.8 aperture, and a six-LED dual-tone flash. The front of the smartphone houses a 20MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

    Meizu 15

The Meizu 15 sits right between the Meizu 15 Plus and 15 Lite. It has a 5.46 inch Super AMOLED display with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution. The Meizu 15 runs on the Snapdragon 660 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB onboard storage. Powering the device is a 3000 mAh battery which charges via a USB C port. The proprietary mCharge wall charger takes the cell to 54% capacity in 30 minutes.

The camera setup is identical to that on the Meizu 15 Plus, with a 20 megapixels and 12 megapixels, with 3X lossless zoom, a 1.55nm pixel size, OIS, an f/1.8 aperture, and a six-LED dual-tone flash. The front of the smartphone houses a 20MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

    Meizu 15 Lite

The Meizu 15 Lite has a 5.46 inch IPS LCD display with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution. It runs on the Snapdragon 626 chipset which is coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The Meizu 15 Lite also gets rid of the dual-camera setup and replaces it with a 12MP with an f/1.9 aperture. The front has the same 20MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

Starting 1,699 Yuan, roughly Rs. 17000, the range of the Meizu 15 goes all the way to 2,999 Yuan ( or Rs. 32000) for the basic variant of the Meizu 15 plus. When and if we should expect these phones in India, but if they do launch, the company might be in some serious need for price checks, and may be able to create some stiff competition in the Under Rs. 20,000 price bracket.

Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus Launched With A Secondary Display

Meizu’s new Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus dual screen rumours caught our attention a while back, thanks to the super AMOLED touchscreen on the back. Proving that the rumours were true, Meizu recently sent invites for the announcement of its Pro 7 lineup on 26th of July.

Meizu announced the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus in a tweet on Wednesday. The Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus were launched with an interesting feature – dual super AMOLED display for the front as well as the back of the handsets. Designed by the design studio “Frog,” the 1.9-inch screen lights up when flipped over and can be used to display notifications, weather, time, playing music or maybe for a quick selfie session using the rear camera. Unlike LG and HTC’s “Second Screen” iterations, Meizu Pro 7 phones may be more practical and cooler versions of the dual screen setup. Priced at $430 and $530, the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus are expected to go on sale from 5 August 2017 in China.

The 5.2-inch Pro 7 features a 1920 x 1080 pixel Super AMOLED display and is powered by Helio P25 chip. 4 GB RAM and 64 GB onboard storage brings the phone to par with 2017 flagships. The Pro 7 has a 3000mAh internal battery and support for ‘mCharge 4.0’for faster charging. Meizu claims that mCharge 4.o technology will provide upto 67 percent battery charge in 30 minutes.

A high edition version is also available for the Pro 7 with an extended 128 GB memory and the Helio P30 chip which has a 10-core processor made by 10 nm manufacturing process, making it the first smartphone to use the technology. The higher version of Pro 7 also has IMG PowerVR 7XTP GPU.

    Pro 7 Plus

For an extra $100, the Pro 7 plus boosts almost all those specs in the Pro 7 variant. A slightly larger variant of the Pro 7, the Pro 7 Plus offers a 5.7-inch QHD display, 6GB of RAM, a Helio P30 processor, and a choice of 64GB or 128GB of storage. Unlike the Pro 7, the Pro 7 Plus offers a slightly larger 3500mAh battery and offers support for ‘mCharge 3.0’. The phone also has a 10nm chipset including 10 cores made up of three clusters — two Cortex A73 cores that go up to 2.6GHz, four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz, and four energy-efficient Cortex A35 cores at 1.9GHz and a IMG PowerVR 7XTP GPU.

Both the smartphones have M touch fingerprint sensors, run Android Nougat 7.0 based Flyme skin and have Hi-Fi audio. The phones are decked with Sony’s IMX386 imaging sensors and 12 MP dual-camera setup – a primary RGB sensor and a secondary monochrome sensor with f/2.0 aperture for improved low-light performance, as well as a 16MP front-facing camera.

Though the phones are set to be up for sale on 5th August in China, no information about the release in other countries have been disclosed yet. Implying that the wait may be a bit longer than we expected. Meizu also announced the ‘Meizu Flow headphones’ along with the unveiling of the smartphones indicating that unlike Apple, the phones has decided keep the 3.5mm headphone jack.

  • Meizu Pro 6 Concept Shows Off a Curved Screen

Meizu Pro 6 Concept Shows Off a Curved Screen

If there’s one thing you’ve got credit Chinese smartphone makers it’s their ability to carve great looking devices. Meizu’s M2 Note, Pro 5 and MX5 are among the company’s most popular, and most loved phones. The MX5, in particular, had some mighty impressive specs including a 20MP Sony sensor and the handset pleased the eyes with slim bezels and a great screen to body ratio. Now, some concept renders of Meizu’s next offering have surfaced online.

    Meizu-MX6-or-Pro-6-concept-renders-3

Since Meizu has yet to confirm it’s next high-end device, the renders could either be of a MX6 or Pro 6 handset, but we’re leaning more towards the Pro 6. The upcoming MX6 handset is rumoured to pack MediaTek’s Helio X20 chipset with its deca-core CPU and Mali-T880 GPU. That’s right, if rumours are true, the Pro 6 will feature a cool 10-core processor that will likely shatter in multi-core performance in benchmark test (results of which you can expect as we approach closer to the launch of the device).

But that’s not all that is being said about the Pro 6. Rumour has it that Meizu is developing it’s own version of Force Touch technology and the device will sport a curved edge design, much like Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge and Vivo XPlay 5. It is also being said that the display technology seen in the renders are flexible. Meizu is likely working with a POLED (Plastic OLED) screen for its upcoming handset. You’ll notice that the concept not only shows the display curving at the sides but also from the top and bottom. The phone’s corners are protected by a single piece of smooth aluminium.

The concepts look like something Meizu can pull off. A curved edge design on a phone that could also look like an iPhone (as the Pro 5 did) could make for a smashing combination. Since we’re not sure whether the concepts are of an MX6 or Pro 6 handset, anything is possible as of now. The Pro 5 was a beautiful piece of machinery that, even though mimicked the iPhone, had managed to carve it’s own language, and top notch specs with that.
