Spec Battle: Moto G (3rd Gen) VS Yu Yureka Plus VS Xiaomi Mi 4i

Motorola has just launched the long-awaited Moto G. And like many other competitive handsets around, Moto G, too, has seen its fair share of rumours and leaks. The device is available in two variants and will be available on Flipkart by midnight, today.

The device boasts of a 5-inch 720p display with 1280×720-pixel resolution and 294ppi. It is powered by a 1.4GHz Quad core CPU and the processor has been upgraded from Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 to Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, along with an Adreno306 GPU. It is juiced by a 2,470 mAh battery that can last roughly up to a day. The handset is available in two variants- 8GB storage with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage with 2GB RAM.

Camera specifications include a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, Field of view (FOV) up to 76 degrees. The 5MP front camera consists of a f/2.2 aperture and Field v (FOV) 72 degrees Display flash with fixed focus.

We have pitted the Moto G against the smartphones in the similar price bracket. Let us see how it fared.

As we can see above, Yu Yureka Plus is apparently leading the way to be the first choice of the market due to the same, or better specs in each category at a much cheaper price. But, Moto G should not be undervalued in this race. We think that by adding features like being waterproof for up to 3 feet for 30 minutes, or just shaking the handset for the camera to start automatically, should take the Moto G (Gen 3) a step forward. And, how can we forget the choice between 10 different coloured shell covers and 5 flip covers that leave us spoiled for choice.

Let’s see how the Moto G (Gen 3) performs against its predecessor, the Moto G (Gen 2)

Price Not available on Flipkart  Rs. 11,999 for 8 GB and Rs. 12,999 for 16 GB

Motorola has made some notable improvements in the new Moto G (Gen 3), such as increasing the battery life, upgrading the rear camera and making Android Lollipop the default OS, compatible with 4G networks.

To begin with, the 2015 Moto G comes in two variants – the 8GB storage + 1GB RAM and  the 16GB + 2GB – while the former is for casual users, the latter has been aimed towards gamers. The new Moto G has a bigger battery than its predecessor due to the phone supporting 4G network. Given the current 4G scenario in the country, Motorola has made the smart move to include 4G capability.

Motorola has changed the processor from Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 to Snapdragon 410. Both processors are known to perform in a similar manner, so the users shouldn’t feel any difference between the Moto G (Gen 2) and the new Moto G. With display, Motorola has gone for the “If it ain’t broke, then why fix it” philosophy. The display is the same as Moto G (Gen 2), keeping the same 5 inch HD display with 720p resolution.

The rear and front camera of the Moto G (Gen 3) get an update. The new Moto G has a 13MP rear camera as compared to its predecessor’s 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, as compared to the Gen 2’s 2MP front snapper.

According to Motorola, the Moto G (Gen 3) will be available for a price of Rs. 11,999 (8GB) and Rs. 12,999 (16GB) at Flipkart from midnight tonight. Although the processor has been upgraded, along with the camera and 4G support has been added, we will only find out when we review the product.

Watch the unboxing and hands on with the new Moto G (Gen 3) here:

Unboxing and Hands On: The New Moto G (Gen 3)

After weeks of speculations and leaks, Motorola has finally launched the new Moto G (Gen 3) today. The device will be available on Flipkart from midnight today priced starting at Rs. 11,999. From the first look, Motorola has made some notable improvements in the phone, such as an increased battery life, upgrading the rear camera, and has made Android Lollipop the default OS that will be compatible with 4G network.

    Moto G Gen 3 23

The phone comes with a dual USB port charger, a mini USB cable for charging and data transfer purpose and the usual documents containing warranty card and user manual. Similarly designed to the previous generation Moto G, the phone’s back panel has a nice finish. The power and volume button is located on the right side of the phone.

The Moto G (Gen 3) has the same display as its predecessor, a 5 inch HD display with 720p resolution. For a mid-range phone that this was, Motorola could have included a full HD display, but surprisingly didn’t. The processor has been upgraded from Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 to Qualcomm Snapdragon 410. However, the user won’t notice any major difference since it’s a known fact that the two processors perform quite similarly.

Knowing the current 4G scenario in India, Motorola has wisely included 4G support in the Moto G (Gen 3). Perhaps this also explains the need for a bigger battery, which has been upped from 2070 mAh to 2470 mAh. The phone will be available in two variants – the 8GB storage + 1GB RAM and  the 16GB storage + 2GB RAM. While the former is meant for casual users, the latter has been aimed towards gamers.

    Moto G Gen 3 7

The new Moto G gets a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. The rear camera comes with Dual LED CCT Flash. The flash can be activated and deactivated by chopping the phone twice. The feature has been added after the company noted that people were wasting time by trying to access the flashlight from the camera.

    Moto G Gen 3 0

Moving over, the 2015 Moto G has been certified IPx7, which means that the phone can stay submerged under 1m of water for 30 minutes. The IPx7 certification helps in country like India, where people often get frustrated due to rains damaging the inside of their phones. The phone can be customised using shell colours available in 10 different colours and flip colours available in five different colours. These back panels have rubber seals which ensure that the phone’s IPx7 certification stays intact.

Here’s How You Can Watch the Moto G (Gen 3) Launch Tomorrow

With just a little over 24 hours left for the launch of the Moto G (Gen 3), Motorola India has decided to stream the event live on its YouTube channel. It’s interesting though, given that the company has not admitted that it will launch the new Moto G/Moto X.

To watch the live event, you have to search #mymotobff live on YouTube and click on the event. The event was announced ten days ago through a media invite. The new Moto G has been in the news recently, for the amount of details leaked about it.

Just a few hours ago, Flipkart listed the details about the Moto G (Gen 3) only to remove it a few moments later. The listing included the price of the 8GB variant at Rs. 11,999 and various details that were previously leaked such as a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, which is consistent with the reports that the phone will sport a 1.4GHz processor and a 13MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, a 5MP front camera, and a 2470 mAh battery.

With just a little over 24 hours left for the launch, it is better if we wait for Motorola to announce the phone and do not ruin the surprise, if there’s any surprise left at all.

Here’s the live stream that Motorola has launched:

New Leaked Promo Video for Moto G (Gen 3) Confirms Specs

Just a few days back we reported that the upcoming Moto G will be waterproof. A new promotional video for the Moto G has been leaked and confirms most of what we knew about the phone so far.

The Moto G (Gen 3) will boast of a 5-inch display and since it is referred to as HD, our guess is that the resolution will probably be 720p. The processor used will be a quad-core, but we don’t know which one since it hasn’t been mentioned. The phone will be water resistant for 30 minutes, as it has been certified IPx7. The battery will be large enough to power it around the clock.

The phone sports a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera. The device will run on Android Lollipop 5.1 and will offer expandable storage via MicroSD card upto 32 GB. The Moto G (Gen 3) can be customised using Motorola shells, like in the first Moto G. The dual SIM phone will support both 3G and 4G. There is no mention of the fingerprint sensor though, which is supposed to be an important feature.

At this point the video pretty much confirms many of the specs that the new Moto G was rumored to have. The video seems authentic since it uses the same design element that was used in the media invite sent for the July 28th event hosted by Motorola.

Massive Moto G (Gen 3) Leak Reveals a 13MP Rear Camera

Moto G is one of the most recognizable phones Motorola has ever made. The affordable smartphone relaunched the company and drew huge sales in India, making Motorola a household name. Today, a set of images and a video has been posted which provides more details about the upcoming Moto G, the 3rd generation.

The images, which were posted by a Google+ user, Nao Lee, have been said to come from “a Chinese digital forum.” The images show the front and the back of the device, which looks similar to the previous versions of Moto G. The phone identifies itself as “XT1453” and runs on Android 5.1.1.

The video, which has since been removed, showed the specifications of the phone. According to the video, Moto G3 is similar to Moto G (2nd Generation). Moto G3 will run on Snapdragon 410 processor, an improvement from the Snapdragon 400 processor. The camera has also been upgraded. Moto G3 will now sport a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera, a vast improvement from 8 and 2 megapixel rear and front camera. As for the rest, the new phone will sport a 5-inch display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, LTE, and a microSD slot, same as Moto G (2nd Gen). This contradicts the early rumours about Moto G3 running on a 64-bit 1.7GHz Snapdragon 610 SoC along with 2GB of RAM.While the Moto G (Gen 2) was a vast improvement over its predecessor, that might not be the case with Moto G (Gen 3). It is to be noted that Motorola is yet to officially announce the specifications and the phone may turn out to a be a far superior product than expected.
