  • Nokia 1 Launched In India For Rs. 5499

Nokia 1 Launched In India For Rs. 5499

At the Mobile World Congress 2018, HMD Global unveiled a plethora of smartphones. Right from the infamous “Banana Phone” from The Matrix to the Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 7 Plus. However, the Nokia 1, an Android Go running smartphone was also an important announcement. It has now been launched in India at a price of Rs 5499. In fact, the Nokia 1 will only be available via offline outlets from the 28th of March.

Google introduced Android Go back in early-December 2017 tailor-made for devices with 1GB of RAM. The company said the idea behind Android Go is to create a version of Android software which is designed to run better on phones with either 512MB or 1GB of RAM.

Google has claimed that Android Go’s Oreo edition will be a variant of Android Oreo that a manufacturer can just set by ticking off a configuration flag. What this basically does is that it sets up the phone to use the “Go” versions of a handful of Google apps such as the main Google app, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Gmail, and others. Google claims that the smaller apps and slimmer OS can as much as halve the amount of storage that’s taken up by default on a new phone running default OS.

    Nokia 1 Specs

The Nokia 1 has a 4.5 inch FWVGA display with an 854 x 480 px resolution. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A retails in India for Rs 5999 and has a 5 inch 1280 x 720 px resolution.

    Redmi 5A

Under the hood, the Nokia 1 has the MediaTek MT6737M chipset with a 1GHz quad-core processor. This is coupled with 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. There is nothing to write home about its camera as well. The Nokia 1 has a 5MP primary camera with an LED flash. On the front is a 2MP camera. However, the Redmi 5A offers 13MP primary camera and a 5MP front camera.

Out of the box, the smartphone will run Android 8.1 Oreo-based Android Go operating system. Powering the smartphone will be a 2150 mAh battery. The company claims will deliver up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time.

Nokia 1 Officially Launched For US$ 85 At MWC 2018

HMD Global has launched the Nokia 1 at an event in Barcelona along with a few other smartphones like the Nokia 7 Plus. The Nokia 1, as speculated, is an entry-level Android Go device which will retail for US$ 85 (Rs. 5500 approx.), excluding taxes and subsidies. However, the company has claimed that this a global price. Hence, it is expected to be launched in India at a price of Rs. 5000 or less.

The Nokia 1 will be the most affordable Android smartphone from the company, which right now, is the Nokia 2. While there are no details pertaining to its launch in India, the Nokia 1 will go on sale in April globally. It will be available in Dark Blue and Warm Red colour variants. Along with that, the company will also sell Xpress-on covers priced at $7.99 (Rs. 500 approx.) in Azure, Grey, Yellow and Pink colours.

    Specifications

The Nokia 1 4.5 inch FWVGA display with an 854 x 480 px resolution. Under the hood, the Nokia 1 has the MediaTek MT6737M chipset with a 1GHz quad-core processor. This is coupled with  1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of onboard storage.

Out of the box, the smartphone will run Android 8.1 Oreo based Android Go operating system. Powering the smartphone will be a 2150 mAh battery which the company claims will deliver up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time.

    Android Go

Google claims that Android Go’s Oreo edition will be a variant of Android Oreo that a manufacturer can just set by ticking off a configuration flag.

    Conclusion

While the Nokia 1 seems like an interesting phone, the Indian entry-level market has come competition. If it launches at the global price, the Nokia 1 will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 5A which offers much better specifications at a similar price point. However, this will depend on the pricing of the smartphone.

  • Nokia 4 Specifications Leaked Ahead Of Imminent MWC 2018 Launch

Nokia 4 Specifications Leaked Ahead Of Imminent MWC 2018 Launch

A new Nokia smartphone from HMD Global is all set to debut on MWC 2018. This time its Nokia 4, which is likely to replace the Nokia 3. A new report claims that the Nokia 4 will have a badge on the back with a model number TA-1032.

HMD Global didn’t launch either Nokia 3 or the Nokia 5 in China. Which means, there is a great chance that the company might not launch Nokia 4 in China as well. It also comes with a tag Made in India, which means that the Nokia 4 might have a very competitive price tag in India.

The Nokia 3 was one of the affordable Android smartphones from Nokia, based on a MediaTek processor. Like a lot of affordable phones from Nokia, the Nokia 3 was also overpriced. Hence, it could not really have an impact on the Indian market. With a newer processor, the company might be planning to get back the attention of the users. However, the build quality, from the image, still leaves a lot to be desired.

    Specifications:

In terms of specifications, the only known information about the Nokia 4 is the that, the smartphone runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core SoC. Considering the specifications of Nokia 3, the device is expected to feature 5.2-inch 720p IPS LCD screen with Corning Gorilla Glass Protection. The Nokia 4 will feature at least 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage like the Nokia 3 with an expandable SD card slot.

There are no details regarding the camera or the battery. In terms of operating system, the smartphone will be based on Android Oreo 8.0 with the stock user experience.

    Conclusion:

The Nokia 4 will be the newest addition to that list of smartphones that Nokia might launch at MWC 2018. It looks like Nokia will launch at least 4 smartphones at MWC. The Nokia 10 with a rotating 5-camera setup, the Nokia 7 Plus with dual Zeiss camera and a most affordable Nokia 1 with entry-level specs.

While there has been a few Nokia 7 Plus leaks, images of the Nokia 1 have also been finally revealed. A popular tipster on Twitter shared the renders of the Nokia 1 and Nokia 7 Plus. The design of the Nokia 7 Plus looks particularly impressive while the Nokia 1 seems like an ideal entry-level device. The Nokia 7 Plus will have an 18:9 aspect ratio along with thin top and bottom bezels. The Nokia 1, on the other hand, looks quite simple but, it will be an entry-level smartphone.

Nokia 7 Plus will also have colour accents similar to the Nokia 6 (2018). The white colour variant will have orange accents on the back camera and the fingerprint sensor rim. The design is expected to be hugely popular, at least in China after the Nokia 7 was a hit. Another revelation is that the Nokia 7 Plus will be an Android One device, which means stock Android OS and timely software updates. Nokia, to its credit, has been pushing out timely updates so far.

  • Nokia Could Unveil A Smartphone With 5 Cameras At MWC 2018

Nokia Could Unveil A Smartphone With 5 Cameras At MWC 2018

Over the past couple of years, smartphones have increasingly become “camera phones.” Companies know that a few hardware or software frailties can be overshadowed by a solid camera performance, the biggest example being the Pixel smartphones of both the generations. With the iPhone 7 Plus, the trend of a dual-camera setup caught on and in today’s market, a smartphone that costs Rs. 10,999 has a quad-camera setup (two on the back and two on the front).

Nokia, according to a report, is willing to challenge this industry trend by introducing a Penta-lens smartphone at MWC 2018. Apparently, the device has already been prototyped by HMD Global and could go on sale by the end of 2018. However, prototyping and mass producing are two completely different ball games and its launch will depend on Foxconn’s mass production capabilities. The process of embedding fice camera lenses on a smartphone is much more difficult than embedding two cameras.

    Nokia 8 With Dual Cameras

The camera system will be available in a circular form with seven holes instead of five, the other two belonging to the LED flash. What will be interesting is how this crazy camera setup will work and what the implementation will be. The Nokia 8 was made in collaboration with Zeiss Optics and Nokia has had a fruitful partnership with the German brand.

The mysterious Nokia device, if launched, will definitely grab a lot of headlines and give the Samsung Galaxy S9 devices a run for their money. Last week, HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas teased a major showcasing plan for the MWC 2018 and unveiling a smartphone with five camera lenses is definitely a major showcasing.

    Expected Nokia 1 Design

HMD Global is also expected to launch the successor to the Nokia 8, the Nokia 9 at MWC 2018. ALong with that, the first ever Android GO smartphone, Nokia 1 is also expected to be launched at MWC 2018 that is scheduled to take place from the 26th of February.

  • Nokia 9 And Nokia 1 Expected To Be Announced At MWC 2018

Nokia 9 And Nokia 1 Expected To Be Announced At MWC 2018

HMD Global is planning a grand outing for the upcoming Mobile World Congress scheduled to take place from 26th February. Recently, the company launched the Nokia 7 in China and there reports that the Nokia 9 and Nokia 1 will soon be launched as well.

Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer at HMD Global took to Twitter to announced that the company is planning something “awesome” for MWC 2018.

While he did not delve into details, it is possible that the company will launch its first flagship smartphone of 2018, the Nokia 9, and first-ever Android Go device, the Nokia 1. Since the company will announce the devices at MWC, it is expected that these smartphones are intended for the global market, unlike the Nokia 7, which is still a China exclusive as of now.

While there isn’t much known about the Nokia 1, a recent leak revealed two possible designs of the smartphone. Since it is an Android Go device, expect it to have entry-level specifications like 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The Nokia 2 was powered by the Snapdragon 212 chipset, and it’ll be interesting to see which chipset will be used inside the Nokia 1. Nokia has so far stuck to Snapdragon chipsets for its Android smartphones hence, a MediaTek chip unlikely.

There were renders of the Nokia 9 that were leaked in late-December and revealed a modern design with thin bezels. For all the bells and whistles in the Nokia 8, the smartphone did not look like a 2017 flagship smartphone especially with the likes of OnePlus 5T and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 priced similarly in India.

The Nokia 9, however, seems likely to have an 18:9 aspect ratio and minimal bezels around the display. While there are phones with a better screen-to-body ratio, the trimmed bezels will be a welcome change for all the Nokia loyalists waiting to upgrade to the Nokia 9.

The other noticeable aspect of the phone here is the front-facing dual-camera setup. Front-facing dual cameras will be the next big industry trend and it has already started with the Samsung Galaxy A8+, Honor 9 Lite and even the HTC U11 EYEs.

According to a recent FCC filing, the Nokia 9 will have a 5.5-inch OLED display.

Under the hood, the Nokia 9 will have the Snapdragon 835 chipset and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage.

Powering the device will be a 3250 mAh battery with 18W fast charging. The device will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with very little customisations.

The listing reveals a 12 MP + 13 MP dual-camera setup at the back and a 5MP front-facing camera which could be the resolution of one of the front-facing cameras.

The Nokia 9 could be the successor to the Nokia 8, however, the presence of the Snapdragon 835 chipset is a bit disappointing. Especially since Samsung, Sony and possibly Xiaomi are planning to launch flagship devices with the Snapdragon 845 chip inside.

  • This Could Be The First Smartphone To Run Android Go

This Could Be The First Smartphone To Run Android Go

HMD Global recently launched the Nokia 2 in India at a price of Rs. 6999 in India. At the same time, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5A with better specifications and similar price. HMD Global subsequently announced that the Nokia 2 will support Android Go Edition based on Android 8.1 Oreo and now it appears that the company might be launching its first-ever Android phone that will run Android Go version of Android OS.

Leaked images of what might be the Nokia 1 have surfaced on Baidu, a Chinese website. Interestingly, two different designs are revealed of the same phone which means that HMD Global might still be exploring options. But, with a launch expected at MWC, one of these could well be the final design of the smartphone.

All of these are speculations so far, but, there have been multiple reports claiming that HMD Global is working on an Android Go-powered smartphone since it is one of the first smartphone makers to adopt the new software system developed by Google.

Google recently announced Android 8.1 Oreo-based Android Go edition. The idea behind Android Go is to create a version of Android software which is designed to run better on phones with either 512MB or 1GB of RAM.

HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas recently took to Twitter to announce that the Nokia 2 will directly receive Android 8.1 Oreo update thanks to its Android Go integration.

India could be one of the first few countries where the Nokia 1 will be launched, thanks to its crowded entry-level smartphone market and a huge feature phone user-base which will be able to move to a good smartphone without shelling out a lot of money.

  • Nokia Mega Comeback Phone to cost Rs. 9999

Nokia Mega Comeback Phone to cost Rs. 9999

Nokia 1DC will be launched early next year at Mobile World Congress 2017. The phone which will revive the Nokia brand name and be the first ever smartphone from the Finnish giant sold running Android will be available in two variants. One with 2GB RAM and one with 3 GB RAM according to a report.

The report claims that the Nokia 1DC will start at US $ 150 and will run Android N out of  the box. Earlier leaks on benchmark sites have positioned the 1DC with a Snapdragon 430 chipset and Adreno 505 GPU. The specifications don’t seem to keep up with the expectations of the “comeback” tag. Both variants of the Nokia 1DC will sport full HD displays, however, one has a 5 inch display while the 3GB RAM variant is expected to sport a 5.5 inch display.

Camera options also seem to be mixed, with the lower variant sporting a 13 MP shooter and the higher variant churning 16 Mega Pixels.

HMD Global, which is the manufacturer carrying the Nokia name, has confirmed that the Indian market is key and the first phone will be in the Rs. 10000 price bracket which matches perfectly with the rumoured US $ 150 price of the above Nokia 1DC.

Nokia still holds 1/10 the overall mobile handset market, although this is largely due to their strong hold of feature phones, HMD plans to regain position to double in the first year of launch getting 1/5th the market share.
