    OnePlus 3 Review

    OnePlus 3 22

The OnePlus 3 is the third from the Chinese manufacturer OnePlus. A company with claims of making flagship killers and a tagline that says “Never Settle”. However, the fist two phones have been compromised in one way or another, even though the OnePlus One was an impact maker, the Oneplus Two failed to deliver on promises. The OnePlus 3 is being projected as a true flagship killer, and while there are many reasons why this statement may be true, Let’s Find out in our Review if this stands True!

    [section label=”Initial Thoughts”]

    Initial Thoughts

One Month in and the OnePlus 3 is still pretty important to people, that says a lot about the positioning of the brand and the value it delivers with the OnePlus 3. The Oneplus 3 is the first phone from OnePlus to be sold entirely without invites or flash sales of any kind. Which does away with one of the biggest issues with owning a OnePlus handset. The phone is available outright all over the world with a price of US $ 399, in India the company launched the phone for Rs. 27999.

In a pure spec to price comparison, the OnePlus 3 seems to be somewhat in the lead. Click to Share

    [section label=”Build and Design”]

    OnePlus 3 2

    Build Quality and Design

The OnePlus 3 holds the best build quality of the Oneplus line of phones. An all metal shell that reflects a lot upon design and materials from the lineup of HTC phones and it is no way a bad thing. HTC has been one of our favorite manufacturers, and their build quality is a primary reason.

The front of the phone houses Gorilla Glass 4. However, you will only get a protection lip if you buy one of their covers. The included screen protector gets scratched easily and it is recommended that you replace your layer quickly.

We have no complaints with the OnePlus 3 design, in fact, we appreciate it a lot and it speaks a lot about what the company has learnt in the past three years. That being said we are still waiting for the gold color. The fact that the phone is metal, means that dents will be easy to get and so will be scratches.

    [section label=”Hardware”]

    Hardware

Hardware wise, OnePlus has left only one aspect behind, and pumped the rest of the OnePlus with the best meat on the market. The OnePlus 3 short of display resolution, features top of the line specifications and then some. Snapdragon 820 with a whopping 6 GB of RAM along with a standard 64 GB storage and 16 Mp and 8MP camera combinations.

    [section label=”Performance”]

    Performance and Gaming

With the latest update just about a month from the launch, OnePlus took care of a lot of the initial snags faced by the handset. Memory management is a whole lot improved, even though we didn’t really face any issues initially.

Scoring upwards of 140,000 in Antutu benchmark, the OnePlus 3 proves that you don’t need an expensive handset to get the power you desire. In fact, it scores the 1st place at the moment on Antutu with a score of 143532 without any mods.

6 GB of RAM is an overkill and OnePlus basically did it to draw attention towards the phone, with no real use of so much standby memory, it just makes the memory hungry apps last out longer. It does give a free buffer to multitask and allow for games to utilise this memory. At any time, however, there is usually awards of 3 GB of RAM free.

OnePlus may launch a 4 GB variant of the OnePlus 3 much like the LeMax 2, which would make more sense for an ordinary consumer and would also bring down the price by about Us $ 60.

Usual bits of daily use are good after one month of use, and especially good after the software update which tends to smooth things out. Switching between apps is easy and quick and the phone plays well when you push it to the limit.

    [section label=”Camera and Multimedia”]

    OnePlus 3 1

    Multimedia and Camera

The AMOLED display is excellent and really puts vibrancy into the OnePlus 3. When compared to the dull display on the OnePlus 2 the OnePlus 3 really shines in this department. Media consumption is excellent on the handset which offers good viewing angles and bucket loads of brightness indoors and outdoors.

There is only one speaker on the phone and its sharp but sounds tinny.  The audio levels are also average and not the best we have seen. You will find yourself looking for portable speakers or headphones to use this handset. Audio through the headphone jack is good and punchy. Also worth noting is the fact that this phone does, in fact, have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Something the Chinese siblings are missing in anticipation of Apple getting rid of it.

HDR and HD mode you will find yourself capturing some great outdoor shots. The usual OnePlus filters are also available and appreciated in the camera app. The camera is genrally faster, sharper and more detailed in capturing images and video.

A full manual mode allows you to customize and set up your shot if you are a photography nerd. The ability to store RAW lets you get a lot more from the images, and removing the processing engine from the smartphone and shifting it to you PC.

Colors and Contrast is on point and saturation is just right. Mostly outdoor images are excellent with the indoor images coming out good to average.

    [section label=”Operating System”]

    OnePlus 3 16

    Oxygen OS

With Cyanogen completely out of the picture, a proprietary OS which has the same feel of Cyanogen developed in-house is a fantastic idea. A fast and smooth near- stock UI with basic customizations works well for the OnePlus 3.

You have the shelf which sits to the left of the home screen, which you can disable in case you don’t want it. you also get the ability to switch to a dark theme, or a light theme, among various other detailed customizations. A gesture setup allows you to launch the camera, enable the flashlight or control your music from a locked phone.

The operating system is now updated frequently to resolve bugs, and improve performance. Hopefully the transition to Android Nougat will not be as long as it was to Android Marshmallow , which happened earlier this year.

    [section label=”Phone and Battery”]

    OnePlus 3 12

    Phone and Battery Life

The OnePlus 3 will take in two nano SIM cards and will work with essentially LTE and 4G networks in the region it is designed for. The Snapdragon 820 chip is quite versatile and a wide array of bands are well supported with the OnePlus 3.

The Network strength is good and so is phone call capability with little effect on the battery life. The earpiece is a tad bit low in volume, but not enough to be bothersome. The microphone is sensitive and noise cancellation good. Overall phone capability stands in the good to excellent region.

Battery life is average on the OnePlus 3, with just a 3000 mAh battery and a lot going on, the OnePlus 3 will require frequent recharges, and its recommended that you carry the Dash Charger. We find the charging living up to its name and claim. After a month the OnePlus 3 still charges quickly and crosses 60% in about 30 minutes.

    Talk Time : 4.5 Hours
    Browsing : 3-4 Hours
    Music Playback : 14 Hours
    Video : 5 Hours

The OnePlus 3 still deals with the heating issues, if you launch the camera in your pocket, you will find a blazing inferno in your pants, to avoid this keep the camera gesture disabled and the fingerprint sensor-enabled.

    [section label=”Conclusion”]

    OnePlus 3 14

    Conclusion

The OnePlus 3 fixes all its earlier nags, it looks great and performs better. The OnePlus 3 does have NFC and a brilliant AMOLED display. The metal build is appreciated and so are the material covers that allow you to go back to sandstone or even the wood finish that everyone wanted on the original OnePlus One. The OnePlus 3 is probably the only phone in this price bracket that is worthy of a recommendation over handsets like the S7 Edge and HTC 10, however, there is a big catch.

HTC and more importantly Samsung now are vetrans in the smartphone business, not only are their phones more reliable they are more robust in day to day usage. The Galaxy S7 is considered the best phone from Samsung, and we personally love the HTC 10. The OnePlus 3 is an excellent replacement if you dont want to spend that much.

  • OnePlus 3 vs LeEco Le Max 2

OnePlus 3 vs LeEco Le Max 2

With the official launch of the OnePlus 3 out of the way it has really come to a point where we can discuss the two elephants in the room. The LeEco’s Le Max 2 and the OnePlus 3 share quite a lot of similarities. However, this time around OnePlus has stayed away from the Hype and launched the phone outright, no invite system and no dramas for flash sales.

    Le Max 2 4

Both the OnePlus 3 and LeEco Le Max 2 have similar unibody metal designs, along with a camera module that sits slightly jutted out. The Le Max 2 has a fingerprint sensor on the back, whereas the OnePlus 3 keeps the sensor below the front display.

    OnePlus 3 iGyaan 13

Major differences lie in the way the two companies have perceived their markets. While the OnePlus 3 will only be available for a price of Rs. 27999 for a 6GB RAM + 64 GB storage model, the LeEco Le Max 2 has two options Rs. 22999 for the 4GB or RAM and 32 GB Storage and Rs. 29999 for the 6GB RAM and 64 GB storage model.

    Le Max 2 12

The higher price on the LeEco Le Max 2 also gives you a higher resolution QHD display 2560 x 1440 pixels, the OnePlus 3 features a lower resolution 1920 x 1080p display however now has a AMOLED display, a tech they are calling Optic AMOLED.

    OnePlus 3 iGyaan 14

The LeEco LeMax foregoes the 3.5mm headphone jack but does include a adapter inside the box. The OnePlus 3 still houses a 3.5mm headphone jack which means no finicky adapters. 7.99mm thickness for the LeEco Le Max 3, the OnePlus 3 keeps it slim with just 7.35 mm.

    Le Max 2 5

The cameras are another area that the LeEco LeMax has powers, with the 21MP rear snapper OIS, 6P Lens, f/2.0 Aperture, PDAF and Quick Focus. The OnePlus 3 keeps the rear camera at 16MP with a Sony sensor, you will still get OIS and EIS along with PDAF and an f/2.0 aperture. Both cameras will shoot 4k Video at 30fps. Both phones have similar 8MP front cameras however, the OnePlus 3 has a lower f/stop with an f/2.0 aperture vs the f/2.2 on the Le Max 2.

Both phones, have dual nano-SIM slots and run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipsets have LPDD4 RAM modules and UFS 2.0 storage. Both phones have their own prop quick charge technology LeCharge on Le Max 2 and DashCharge on the OnePlus 3, both offering similar speeds.

  • Can the OnePlus 3 Have a 16 MP Front and 8 MP Main Camera

Can the OnePlus 3 Have a 16 MP Front and 8 MP Main Camera

What seems to have been missed even by us, but noticed by some of our readers is the fact that the marketing fumble by OnePlus in the OnePlus 3 print AD mentions a camera anomaly of a 16 MP front and an 8 MP rear camera.

We spoke to our source who is tied closely with the Indian launch and he had no comment on the matter.

    OnePlus Ad

The Images leaked my OnePlus CEO, clicked by the OnePlus 3’s main camera seem to be low in resolution, and while many have not been able to measure the exact size, most image sharing sites tend to compress the actual image to get any real information regarding the main camera.

In a time where people are clicking more selfies than rear pictures, could OnePlus have chosen to swap cameras around, or is it simply more salt to the marketing fumble, and luckily they misprinted the specs too.

Either way everything will be revealed at 10PM tonight.

OnePlus 3 Outed by Company Marketing Fumble; Costs Rs 27999

Someone at OnePlus must be going through a tough time, as the company seems to have fumbled the release of its print AD on the 14th of June instead of the the actual 16th June release.

The phone which will be an Amazon exclusive will launch for a price of Rs 27999 for the 6GB RAM + 64 GB variant which is Rs. 2000 below the recently launched LeEco Le Max 2 with similar specs.

    OnePlus Ad

OnePlus users will also get access to 12 months of Saavn Pro and Idea double data for the same period. The company is also providing 1-year of accidental damage protection with OnePlus Care. Previous leaks have told us that the 4GB + 32GB variant will be priced at Rs 23999, if it launches at the same time.

The Advertisement also confirms that the phone will run a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset along with a 16MP + 8MP camera configuration. The OnePlus 3 will also support the dash charge protocol revealed earlier.

You can also expect the fingerprint scanner/sensor in the same location as the OnePlus 2 which seems much better than a rear sensor. The Ad touts quick fingerprint unlock times, 0.2 seconds.

  • OnePlus 3 to come to India 15th June will start at Rs. 23999

OnePlus 3 to come to India 15th June will start at Rs. 23999

The OnePlus 3 launch for India has been confirmed for the 15th of June. The company is not only ready to launch the next iteration of its smartphone sans-invite, it will also attempt to tie in with pricing as best it can with the global launch.

The OnePlus 3 will be available in several options, two RAM variants of either 4 GB or 6 GB each with three storage options of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. While in India the strategy may be just to launch the 4GB variant at first.

    oneplus 3

Insiders tell us that the OnePlus 3 should begin registrations on the 15th of June on Amazon.in and the phone will go on sale for Rs. 23999 for the 4GB + 32 GB variant. With other options available later .

Unlike the past, the OnePlus 3 is expected to have a full metal construction, and OnePlus cases designed specifically for the OnePlus 3 will give the user the ability to bring the Sandstone finish among many other materials like bamboo and other wood finishes to their phone and will be sold for Rs 1699 each.

For OnePlus this is the coldest launch yet, with the fans not showing much excitement for the handset. The company also decided against any sort of a Hype campaign this year making sure they get the fundamentals right with the phone. The CEO of the company also showed off some images which he claims to have captured from the OnePlus 3’s main 16MP camera.

OnePlus 3 to be Invite-Free From Day One

OnePlus CEO Carl Pei has announced on the OnePlus forums that the OnePlus 3 will finally drop the invite system for free sale from day one of the OnePlus 3 launch.

We’re releasing the OnePlus 3 invite-free, right from launch day. In addition, invites are gone forever from future OnePlus product launches.

The invite system has a special place in our history. When we first started out, our team was incredibly small. We had no idea what the demand of the OnePlus One would look like. We also weren’t fans of flash sales, where there’s a risk of everything selling out immediately, forcing fans to wait indefinitely. To address this, we designed the invite system to give customers a chance to purchase a phone as soon as we had inventory ready.

The invite system has taken a lot of flak in the past and it seems that OnePlus may either move to a flash sale model like Xiaomi or simply sell outright like bigger manufacturers.

You can read the full post in the link below. Would you like the invite system to continue or are you happy about its end let us know below.

Launch schedule for the OnePlus 3 all time zones on June 14:

The OnePlus 3 launch is just around the corner and the phone is highly anticipated. While many have put a lot of faith and trust in OnePlus and expect a fantastic phone, many are waiting for the company to reveal the handset before commenting.

OnePlus has filed a patent for a technology called “Dash Charge” while little is known about the tech, many assume that the name suggests a fast charging technology. Something that was missing in the OnePlus 2 and was considered unacceptable by many.

    OnePlus 2 11

OnePlus 3 Leaks Suggest April 7 Launch, Same 5.5 inch Display

UPDATE : The Company has confirmed that it will not be launching the device on 7th April :

The April 7 event is focused on the China market. We will not be launching our next device then.

OnePlus made a big name with the OnePlus One. However, last year’s OnePlus Two launch was very cold, and although the company had their moments, the OnePlus Two was barely as a big a success as the OnePlus One. The company later released the OnePlus X, a cheaper yet power packed phones.

However, this Chinese smartphone company may have new tricks up its sleeve with the OnePlus 3. Leaks of the device from an Antutu benchmark test have revealed the specifications. The leak shows that the next-gen OnePlus handset will have a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The OnePlus three will boast a Snapdragon 820 CPU, an Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of base storage, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and a customized fork of Oxygen OS based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

    oneplus-3-specs

OnePlus has an event planned on the 7th of April in Beijing, where they are expected to unveil the handset. If this is the case, OnePlus fans the world over will rejoice to the early arrival of their beloved handset. However, many will comment on the 1080p display.

OnePlus 3 to Launch in June 2016

It has been three months into 2016 and we have heard very little about OnePlus’ next flagship killer. We’ve so far received small hints that the company is working on a OnePlus 3 device, but now we have some more to add to that. According to co-founder and CEO Pete Lau, the OnePlus 3 will be ready and available by June this year. This he said during the SURGE tech conference in Bangalore, India.

Add to this, the other co-founder of OnePlus, Carl Pei has confirmed that the OnePlus 3 will sport a whole new design. Though nothing more has been said on the design front and we’ll just have to wait for leaked images to have a better idea of what OnePlus plans to offer.

What we can definitely take away from this is that the OnePlus 3 will stay away from the OnePlus One and 2. The OnePlus 2, much like its predecessor, received very positive reviews and fans found very few faults with the handset. The OnePlus 2 mainly found criticism regarding overheating issues, thanks to the Snapdragon 810 processor.

From what we’ve heard so far, the new OnePlus device will sport a 5.5-inch Quad HD display and will come in two variants – one with 3GB of RAM and 16GB storage and the other being 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Rumours also reveal that the handset will arrive with the Snapdragon 820 chipset as most flagship devices this year.

On the camera front, the OnePlus 3 is said to sport a 13MP rear-facing shooter while its front would be of 5MP. The handset is also rumoured to include a removable battery pack MicroSD card support. Early leaked renders of the OnePlus 3 show that the device could feature front speakers and sport a glass back, like the OnePlus X.

So far, the rumoured specifications don’t really offer anything noteworthy. Some of the rumoured specs are similar to the ones found in the OnePlus 2. Seeing as how some of this year’s flagship devices already unveiled feature, at least, one new technology, OnePlus may just have something special for the OnePlus 3. Of course, it’s still early in the day to know anything for sure.

OnePlus 3 to Possibly Ditch Invite System, Launch Set for Q2

At a time when flagships phones from big tech companies are alienating themselves from the majority of the crowd due to their high price, flagship killers, such as the phones from OnePlus have carved out a separate market space for themselves with phones that offer market leading specs but for a fraction of the price of the flagships.

to carry this forward, Chinese smartphone maker, OnePlus plans to bring the new OnePlus 3 to take on the S7s and G5s of the world, and this time, it plans to do things just a bit differently

    OnePlus

In an interview with Cnet the company’s CEO Carl Pie revealed plans for the upcoming phone. He revealed  that the company will make a renewed push for the US market with the OnePlus 3 and will adopt ore traditional forms of marketing hinting at what could possibly be the ditching of the frustrating invite system.

The same invite system which had made the previous OnePlus devices almost impossible to get your hands on for the starting months when demand for them was at its peak.

If it indeed turns out to be true It would mean the company would have to drastically improve things at the manufacturing side of things because a OnePlus 3 without an invite and the kind of specs we expect at a reasonable price point will disrupt the industry like nothing else.
