  • OnePlus One Price to Remain the Same Says Co-Founder Carl Pei

OnePlus One Price to Remain the Same Says Co-Founder Carl Pei

In a recent interview, OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei said that they would not be slashing down prices for the OnePlus One even as sales for OnePlus 2 kickoff.

OnePlus has been a successful startup right from the beginning and with the OnePlus 2 registration reaching nearly 3 million now, it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, anytime soon. Carl Pei also mentioned the fact that they were very humbled at the immensely positive response to the product, especially as huge crowds were seen lining up the day before the launch to buy the product.

“There’s no planned OnePlus One price cut. We see price cuts as slapping our early customers in the face, and will only resort to it when we have no other choice.” – said Carl Pei

OnePlus continues to strive towards its motto of ‘Never Settle’ with the co-founder also quoted as saying, “You don’t kill other flagships by cramming all the specs into a device. That’s a surefire path to mediocrity. Never settle for mediocrity.”

With its holistic approach and focus to sell quality devices with high specs at affordable prices, OnePlus seems to be doing more than alright, for now.

  • OnePlus 2 Goes On Its First Sale Today Exclusively on Amazon India

OnePlus 2 Goes On Its First Sale Today Exclusively on Amazon India

After the OnePlus 2 was launched earlier this month, we saw a total of 2 million reservations for the device. Though the company did not mention how many invites were sent out, we are sure to see some happy-go-lucky faces today. Yes, the OnePlus 2 sale will start from today, 4 pm onwards, only on Amazon India. India is the first market where the device will be launched.

This sale is valid only for customers who have got the valid invites. These customers will be able to claim their invite in their respective OnePlus accounts.

OnePlus have categorized their customers into two principles:

    1. Those who have actively participated and registered for pop-up stores and fan meets, early purchasers and the most active OnePlus One evangelist. OnePlus wishes to return the favour by offering the above-categorized people with the first invites to purchase the OnePlus 2.
    2. For all the others, there will be a series of competition where the participants will win an invite. You will need to stay tuned to the forums and social media for related information.

The OnePlus blog has also stated that they will be creating a reservation list so that invite-holders who did not get hold of the OnePlus 2 will be given priority.

OnePlus 2 feels lightweight, thanks to the manufacturer’s decision to use an aluminium alloy body. It has a 5.5-inch display and comes with the Sandstone Black back cover. The back panel can be easily customised using OnePlus’ StyleSwap covers available in four variants – Bamboo, Black Apricot, Rosewood, and Kevlar. The covers can be swapped without any hassle, but it still takes some effort to remove the cover.

OnePlus 2 20The OnePlus 2 is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core 64-bit processor with 4GB of RAM. The processor is capable of 4K streaming, which is a shame because the display is limited to 1080p resolution. The display is bright though, which makes the 1080p resolution enough for a 5.5 inch display. The device runs on Android 5.1 with OxygenOS. The device has a feature called the ‘shelf’, which is activated when you swipe to the left on the home screen; it opens your preferred contacts and recent apps.

  • OnePlus to Venture Beyond the OnePlus 2 with a Brand New Lineup of phones

OnePlus to Venture Beyond the OnePlus 2 with a Brand New Lineup of phones

The OnePlus has taken the mobile industry by storm. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer launched the highly successful OnePlus 1 last year, followed by the OnePlus 2 this year. Barely a month after OnePlus announced its latest phone, it has already declared that a new device is in the pipeline. Currently rumoured to be the OnePlus 3, It is speculated to be releasing in December.

Pushing all the rumours aside, OnePlus has confirmed that the new device will not launch on Christmas. Yesterday, four employees of OnePlus conducted a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session where they answered quite a lot of questions about the current OnePlus 2, along with a few questions about the future device. Most of the questions were related to NFC, wireless charging and quick charging, to which OnePlus replied:

With the OnePlus 2, we made the set of choices that we think delivers the best user experience, but because users are not the same, they won’t all feel the same. That’s fine – we’ll work hard to make each iteration better than the last.

Lastly, they talked about the new phone. OnePlus said the new phone will be an entirely new segment of the company smartphone and should not be considered as a OnePlus 2 successor. This can be true as one employee from OnePlus confirmed saying, “we can only tell you that this is not going to be the OnePlus 3 nor a OnePlus 2s.” He also said, “We’ll be broadening our range this year.” The new device may address the problem of lack of NFC, wireless charging, quick charging or any other features the current OnePlus 2 lacks.

The OnePlus 2 has been launched and will be available in India from 11th August, for a price of Rs 22,999 for the 16GB variant and Rs 24,999 for the 64GB variant. The device has a 5.5-inch display with a Sandstone back cover.

    OnePlus 2 7

The smartphone comes with a 1.8GHz octa-core 64-bit processor with 4GB of RAM. The phone has a 13MP rear camera with sensor pixel size of 1.3 microns, which is supposedly 35% larger than standard smartphone cameras. The added Laser Focus feature will help take clear shots in less that 0.3 seconds. The camera even includes OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) – a feature previously seen on the iPhone 6 Plus. The company has added a 5MP camera in the front.

OnePlus 2 comes with a USB type-C port, a first for any flagship smartphone. Reversible in nature, the USB type-C allows for faster data transfers and is compatible with almost every device with standard USB ports.

  • OnePlus Defends OnePlus 2 and for Making People ‘Settle’

OnePlus Defends OnePlus 2 and for Making People ‘Settle’

It is a known fact that the OnePlus 2 doesn’t include the NFC, however users and potential customers have been unhappy about this. Therefore, today on a Reddit – Ask Me Anything, four employees of the company fielded questions on everything, such as the voice-over-LTE, the lack of NFC and other such matters. For those who aren’t aware of the term, NFC or Near Field Communication is a short range wireless RFID technology, that can be used for touch-based payments or wireless charging.

    OnePlus 2 12

Apart from this, OnePlus has been faced with some very serious questions about their taglines and not being able to match up to them. For example, their tagline that says “innovations from the future,” or “Never Settle” and claiming to follow a philosophy that essentially warrants them to create a device without gimmicks, bloatware or compromises; have all been under the radar recently.

    OnePlus 2 20

A Redditor asked that “with such a powerful mantra like that, wouldn’t it be ironic to settle without quick-charging or wireless charging if I choose your phone?” Here is what OnePlus said:

We’ve always said that never settle is true for us too. That means, if you’re not happy with the product you shouldn’t settle for ours either. With the OnePlus 2, we made the set of choices that we think delivers the best user experience, but because users are not the same they won’t all feel the same. That’s fine – we’ll work hard to make each iteration better than the last.

Adding to this, an employee also mentioned the power of the new Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology, as being able to charge a phone from 0% to 100% in approximately 2 hours. Despite this, there have been comparisons with the Nexus 6, that is said to charge enough for the entire day in just one hour. Another aspect that has been criticized, is the inability of the OnePlus 2 to take advantage of the NFC-based Android Pay.

    OnePlus 2 9

Last but not the least, OnePlus was asked about a recent interview given by Carl Pei at USA Today, speaking about the release of a third device; to which an employee confirmed that there will most definitely be another OnePlus smartphone, however it won’t be called the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 2S.

Do you think OnePlus has responded adequately to the queries of its users?

Important Questions About The OnePlus 2 Answered

Yesterday, we unboxed and posted a video of the OnePlus 2 on our YouTube channel, and we received many questions regarding the device. We chose some of the most common queries and made a video of it, answering each one of them. You can check out the video below:

Questions and their respective answers are given below:

    Q. Does the OnePlus 2 have a Gorilla Glass? If yes, what is the version of the glass?

    A. The OnePlus 2 does have Gorilla Glass, and it is the latest Gorilla Glass 4. The same is found on Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge.

    Q. Where are the speakers located and are those stereo speakers?

    A. People are easily confused about the speakers being stereo, as it is at the bottom of the device, next to the USB type-C connector.

    Q. How is this device different from different devices?

    A. Our full review of the OnePlus 2 will be out shortly, and will answer this questions.

    Q. Does the OnePlus 2 has an LED notification light?

    A. Yes, it does. Not only does it have an LED light, but the light can also be customized where we can change the colour of our notifications according to our wish.

    Q. Will both the SIM cards run on 4G LTE?

    A. Yes, both the SIM cards will run 4G LTE. But, we are not sure whether both the SIMs will run on 4G simultaneously, we will have to check it out.

    Q. What is the SAR value of the device?

    A. While the SAR value is available in the OnePlus website, for India, the SAR value is 0.729 W/kg for the head and 0.329 W/kg for the body which is well within the allowed numbers.

    Q. What about the availability of the device as well as its covers?

    A. The OnePlus 2 is going to be available in the US, the European Union as well as the Indian region starting from 11th August. In order to obtain the device, you will have to receive an invite first. The Indian sale will go live on Amazon.in, and India specific invites can be availed from Amazon’s website.

You will also be able to purchase changeable back covers at the time of sale. So, you can pick up a back cover of your choice.

    Q. Does the OnePlus 2 support USB OTG?

    A. The OnePlus 2 should support USB OTG, but since we do not have USB Type C OTG cable, we have ordered one and will be able to answer this question shortly.

    Q. Is it worthy to upgrade from OnePlus One to OnePlus 2?

    A. From a hardware perspective, the OnePlus Two seems like a worthy upgrade from the OnePlus One. The pricing is slightly higher than what we expected it to be. Also, you can skip the OnePlus 2 and wait for the next version or buy it later in the year, if they offer the device with some discount deals. If you bought the OnePlus One recently, you could stick to that as it will continue to receive updates.

    Q. Is the fingerprint scanner better than GS6 and iPhone? Is it a deal breaker or maker?

    A. We have been testing out the fingerprint scanner, and it works really well. It is fast and responsive to your fingerprint, and you can register five different fingerprints for unlocking the device and securing your OnePlus 2. It works as well as the S6 or the M9+. It is almost identical to those.

We feel the one on the iPhone 6 works slightly better because it reads the finger much faster than the one on the OnePlus 2. But we will be testing it out with a proper review of the OnePlus 2.

    Q. Earphones in the box?

    A. The box that we got is probably what the retail box will look like. And we did not receive any earphones. So, you will have to buy the earphones separately if you don’t have a pair of earphones already.

The OnePlus 2 has a 5.5-inch display and comes with the classic Sandstone Black back cover, which feels nice to hold. The back panel can be easily customised using OnePlus’ StyleSwap covers available in four variants – Bamboo, Black Apricot, Rosewood, and Kevlar. The covers can be swapped without any hassle, but it still takes some effort to remove the cover.

It is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core 64-bit processor with 4GB of RAM. The processor is capable of 4K streaming. The device runs on Android 5.1 with OxygenOS. Overall, the phone seems to deliver what the company had promised. However, we’d advise you to wait for our review.

The lock screen provides a quick shortcut to the camera and the phone dialler. The screen can be unlocked via the fingerprint scanner located on the home button and it usually takes a second to unlock the phone through the fingerprint. • Should You Buy the OnePlus 2?

Should You Buy the OnePlus 2?

After months of leaks, speculations, announcement and hype, the OnePlus 2 is here, and like many, we had to watch the launch without the VR Cardboard, which was more like seeing a footage shot with fish-eye lens with motion sensors. Anyway, OnePlus says that the OnePlus 2 is going to be the flagship killer and with the price of Rs. 22,999 for the 16GB variant and  Rs. 24,999 for the 64GB variant. To help you decide whether the phone is worth a hole in your pocket, let’s take a look at the main factors made while purchasing a phone – performance, display, camera and notable features.

OnePlus One was criticised for overheating quickly and this time, the company seems to have taken care of it. The new OnePlus 2 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, which combined with thermal gel and graphite in the phone should take care of the overheating problem. The 1.8GHz octa-core 64-bit processor combined with 4GB of RAM is fast enough to run Facebook, Twitter and Clash of Clans simultaneously at the same time.

Although the processor is capable of 4K streaming, you won’t be able to view any 4K in its native resolution. The phone sports a 5.5 inch display with a 1080p resolution. While it is natural to expect a 4K display in this age, it is also important to note that a 1080p display is more than enough at 5.5 inch. Higher resolutions are better experienced on large screens, such as TV or computer displays. The picture may be clearer at 4K but even 1080p provides good viewing experience.

    one plus 2 USB

The phone uses the Type-C USB port, which is good because it is a reversible port that can take care of power, data transfers, and display output. Being slim and compatible with almost every device with standard USB ports relieves customers of four or six connecting ports. It reduces the demand of the system’s space and gives manufacturers freedom to trim down the size of machines and, hence, weight. Moreover, OnePlus 2 uses a lightweight aluminium alloy, so the phone should not feel like a clunky device in your hands.

OnePlus 2 sports a 13MP rear camera with sensor pixel size of 1.3 micron pixels. While OnePlus has retained the same megapixels, by increasing the sensor size it has improved the quality of the image. Put it this way, iPhone 5S used a sensor with 1.5 micron pixels and most standard phones use a sensor with 1.12 micron pixels.  Thus, your images will be captured faster, will be less blurred and even if you capture a photo in a dark environment, it won’t be a monstrosity. For selfie lovers, there is a 5MP front camera.

    one plus 2

The phone can be customised using OnePlus’ StyleSwap covers available in four variants – Bamboo, Black Apricot, Rosewood, and Kevlar. According to reviews so far, the covers can be swapped without any hassle. Also, there is a new feature called the ‘alert slider’. It is a button on the side of the phone that toggles between three notification profiles – ‘None’, ‘Priority’ and ‘All’. The button was added on the suggestion of a Reddit user. The phone has a 3,300 mAh non-removable battery and runs on Android 5.1 with OxygenOS.

For those disappointed with the display, do not worry. Adding 4K resolution would’ve only added to its cost and moreover, streaming 4K content consumes a lot of data. Given that OnePlus has improved the overall design of OnePlus 2, it is worth its value.

The OnePlus 2 will be available in India from August 11.

As we can see in the spec sheet above, there is not much difference between the One and 2. Most of the specs including the screen size, resolution, storage and camera. The OnePlus 2, although, stands out in the terms of its processor and RAM. OnePlus 2 is also the first OnePlus device to feature a Type-C USB port and a fingerprint sensor, that can store five unique fingerprints.

Camera-wise the megapixel number may not have budged, however the company has added an array of useful sensors. The OnePlus 2 comes with a sensor pixel size of 1.3 microns that makes it up to 35% larger than standard smartphone cameras. The new Laser Focus feature also helps to take clear shots in less that 0.3 seconds. It also features the coveted OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation), which has been previously seen in the iPhone 6 Plus.

Just like the specs, the price also barely sees a change. The company had announced that the new handset will not cross more than the price of Rs. 28,500 ($450). Honoring that promise, OnePlus revealed the final launch price of the new OnePlus 2 as Rs. 22,999 for the 16GB variant and Rs. 24,999  for the 64GB variant.

We think the upgraded design and the new camera, RAM, reversible chargerm and fingerprint scanner may be worth the amount, but we’ll only give our final verdict after our full review. Watch this space for more on the new OnePlus 2.

You Can Watch the OnePlus 2 Launch Without VR Cardboards

OnePlus’ upcoming VR event has grabbed eyeballs all around the world and has even excited people outside the OnePlus fan group. Turns out, there were apparently not enough VR Carboards and has prompted OnePlus to launch an app to stream the launch event. The app has a Cardboard-free 360 experience feature that will allow people to view the event without the VR glasses.

In a blog post, the company said, “If you missed out on our Cardboard giveaway, you can try making your own or buying one from somewhere else. But if you simply find yourself Cardboard-less on July 27th, don’t despair! We’ve also built a Cardboard-free 360 experience, right into our launch app. It won’t be as immersive, but it will still be interactive and amazing.”

OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 2 through a VR event on July 28th at 7.30 a.m. Check out our video to know more details about the phone.

It seems OnePlus cannot catch a break. A new set of images about the highly anticipated OnePlus 2 have leaked online and this time, it’s from TENAA, the Chinese regulator for wireless devices. The new images (kind of) give a confirmed look at the OnePlus 2.

The images do not reveal anything else and more can only be learned when OnePlus launches the phone on July 27th through a virtual reality event.

OnePlus Says The New Invite System Will Be Improved This Time

OnePlus 2 will be released later this month through a unique virtual reality launch event. In the meantime, OnePlus has been releasing regular teasers to keep its fans occupied ahead of its official launch on 28th July. The newest feature that Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, has confirmed is that the device will feature a dual SIM support with dual standby.

These features have created a high demand for the unreleased phone. And, why not? Some of the partnered companies to help the OnePlus were Samsung, Qualcomm, Toshiba, Japan Display, Texas Instruments, Everlight and many others.

As a solution to meet the great demand, OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will get a new and improved invite system. The company said on the blog that, “some people thought it was too difficult and time-consuming to obtain an invite or thought it was all some big marketing stunt.” For this reason, a few key improvements to the purchase experience has been made.

So far we know that OnePlus 2 will run on Snapdragon 810 chipset along with 4GB ram. The phone will sport a 5.5-inch 2k display that will improve the viewing experience of the user. The OnePlus 2 will also have a USB C-Type, the first in a flagship device by a major manufacturer. Just a few days back, the company revealed that the phone will come with a built-in fingerprint scanner.
