  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9 To Have Improved Camera Capabilities

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 To Have Improved Camera Capabilities

One of the first smartphones to feature slow-motion video recording @960fps was the Sony Xperia XZ. Following Sony, smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and Huawei also introduced 960fps slow-mo recording. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is about a month away from release. The company might announce the smartphone at the Unpacked event, scheduled for August 9th. According to the latest rumours, the Note 9 may not only feature 960fps slow-mo video capturing but it will also record twice as long videos as the Galaxy S9. The Galaxy Note series is Samsung’s phablet (phone-cum-tablet) smartphone offering. With the Note series, Samsung has kept productivity as a priority. However, with the Note 9, Samsung could be opting for a gaming oriented marketing strategy.

    Galaxy Note 9

Before its launch, Samsung has already teased few features of the Galaxy Note 9 through videos posted on YouTube. These features include a larger storage space and battery. So we assume that Samsung could be launching the Note 9 in 128GB, 256GB, and possibly 512GB variants. The smartphone may also have a 4,000 mAh battery. Which should be enough for the smartphone to easily last a day. The Galaxy Note 8 was able to record slow-motion videos at 240fps at 720p resolution. Whereas the Note 9 may record 960fps videos at the same or possibly higher resolution. If that is the case, then Note 9 could be one of the best slow motion recording smartphones available.

Flipkart has also teased the Galaxy Note 9 on its website. This could mean that the Note 9 may likely be a Flipkart exclusive device in India. We have already seen renders for the Galaxy Note 9 which suggest that the smartphone will have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.  The Note 9’s 960fps video recording capabilities sound exciting on paper. However, we would need to test out the capabilities of the smartphone’s camera to see how it actually performs.

Huawei P20 With Triple Camera Launch Date Confirmed

Huawei has officially confirmed that the Huawei P20 will be its next flagship smartphone. The smartphone maker has also announced that the smartphone will be launched in Paris on 23rd March 2018. This confirms that only the Huawei P20 Lite will launched at MWC 2018.

The company has released a brief 7-second video, which showcases the landscape view of Paris with 3 circles. This might be the Huawei’s way of saying that, the Huawei P20 has a triple camera setup. The teaser also says “SEE MOOORE ON AI”, which hints towards the possible AI capabilities of the Huawei P20. In fact, according to rumours, the Huawei P20 could be the first modern flagship smartphone with triple camera setup.

    Design:

On to the front, the Huawei P20 is expected to have a notch similar to the Apple iPhone X. This means that the smartphone might have a Face ID like facial recognition system using two cameras. The company had claimed that the facial recognition system on its smartphone will be ten times better than Face ID.

    Specifications:

The smartphone is expected to have a 6 inch 2160 x 1080 px IPS LCD display with a notch on the top. Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. However, we might also see a plus version with OLED display and 8GB RAM.

The smartphone is likely to house a triple lens primary camera setup with RGB + wide angle + telephoto lens combination. On to the front, the smartphone is likely to have dual camera setup. In fact, the dual front-facing camera can aid the facial recognition system as well.

    Conclusion:

The Huawei P20 looks like a right successor to the Huawei P10 with improvements like the modern taller display with a notch, triple primary camera setup, and an AI-based chipset. Considering the aggressive pricing by Huawei and Honor in the recent past, it will be intersting to see the price of the Huawei P20. However, whether the P0 will be launched in India is yet to be confirmed.

Samsung Galaxy S7 to Last Two Days on Single Charge

Samsung S7 launch is right around the corner, and it seems that the rumour mill has decided that its about time it goes into overdrive mode. The last couple of days have seen a number of leaks and rumours about the phone surface, but today’s probably the most interesting we have come across for a while.

Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin has made an interesting revelation about battery life of the S7. He says that the phone might last up to two days of continuous use on a single charge.

Murtazin, who previously claimed in an extensive pre-release review of the handsets that the Galaxy S7’s battery lasts for 17 hours while playing video with the screen at 100% brightness, today posted new screenshots from a dual-SIM version of the Galaxy S7. Murtazin has claimed today that the phone can last upto 2 days with a single charge with the battery draining 4G LTE on, and the phone’s brightness set at 75%.

The new Galaxy S7 phones are said to come in packing bigger battery packs of over 3500 mAh. Along with this, the phone is expected to also come with a better-optimized OS for improving battery life and the switch to Qualcomm 820 with better thermal, and power management is also expected to do well for the Galaxy S7 when it comes to providing good battery life.

Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro Makes its Way to India for Testing

Last week, reports coming out of Samsung’s manufacturing and assembly units in China brought to us news of a new beast of a phone arriving in the coming months. galaxy-on7

And now it looks like this elder sibling of the China bound A9 looks to be more real than it was first thought to be. Latest reports suggest the Galaxy A9 Pro was imported to India for testing. The A9 Pro, as it had been reported earlier, is listed with a 6-inch display, the same as the regular Galaxy A9 that was launched late last year for Chinese markets.

The A9 Pro is expected to be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor. The phone will reportedly also include 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage. The hardware will interact with the user through Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box. A battery pack of 4000mAh will power the Pro.

The pricing for the device as listed on import export tracking website Zauba is $360 (about Rs.24,000) , but owing to Zauba’s track record so far, this pricing source should not be considered too reliable.

  • Xiaomi Mi 5 to Come with 5.7-inch Display and Glass Back

Xiaomi Mi 5 to Come with 5.7-inch Display and Glass Back

The Chinese tech giant, Xiaomi is all set to unveil its next handset to global audiences on the 24th of this month, and as we near the launch date leaks and rumours regarding the phone are heating up. Details of the SoC on board have already been revealed by the company, but Xiaomi has decided to keep a tight lid on everything else about the handset.

    Mi5

Latest leaked pictures of the phone reveal it to come with a glass back, something that had been widely reported for some time now, but what came as a surprise to us was that the previous leaks failed to reveal that this glass back would have a beautiful pattern running all over it.

    Xiaomi

A new GFXbench listing though has revealed something not as welcome.  According to the report, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a 5.7-inch, 1080p display and will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 SoC. This contradicts the 5.5″ and 5.2″ size reports, as well as QHD resolution rumours that have been making rounds for the past couple of days.

The listing pegs the Mi 5 to come with 3GB RAM and 64GB for storage. No other variants are listed. Apart from this, the Xiaomi Mi5 will have a 16MP main shooter with f/2.2 aperture and an 8MP camera on the front. Other expected features include Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with GLONASS, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, BDS, OTG and NFC.

  • Google to Manufacture In-House Nexus Devices, OEMs to Exit

Google to Manufacture In-House Nexus Devices, OEMs to Exit

According to reports emanating from Google headquarters in Calfornia, the tech giant is reportedly looking at going the Apple way when it comes the manufacturing of its Nexus devices. Currently, Google shares the branding of its Nexus devices with the hardware manufacturers who have a significant input in both the hardware and designing of the device.

Google wants to change this from the ground up; it plans to bring to users in the future pure Nexus branded devices which will be designed fully by Google. From the hardware to the aesthetics, these phones will be a creation of minds at Google, and as such will not sport any branding of manufacturers.  As the tech giant does not have any manufacturing units, the Nexus handsets of the future will take birth in manufacturing plants of handset makers on a contractual basis.

    nexus-6

If and when this switch takes place, it won’t be a jump in the unknown for Google as it has already tried its hand at a task like this in the form of Pixel which are also 100% Google designed smartphones. This lineup which was originally created to use the Chrome OS was seen using the Android OS for its last product.

Reports suggest the murmurs for this switch in tactics for Google have made their way directly from the high offices of its CEO Sundar Pichhai who is said to have signaled to his associates at Google as well as outsiders of what could be the road-map ahead for Google.

Suggestions are Google’s extreme step of alienating itself from its current OEM partners is a result of the company’s growing frustration at Apple’s monopoly over the high-end Smartphone market. Google as of now has not been able to influence Android phone hardware so that it can enable new experiences which has lead the Nexus program to not gain the kind of traction with consumers that Google had previously hoped for.

iPhone 5se Production begins, Manufacturers Launch Cases

Whispers making their way out from the manufacturing centres in China and Japan suggest that what could be the next iPhone, the 5se, may already be rolling off the assembly line in a bid to be ready for a March 2016 launch.

After witnessing decline in sales of iPhones, Apple looks in no mood to let things get worse in the coming quarters and hence is planning to launch a smaller screen variant of the iPhone for emerging markets where buyers can’t pay as much as their counterparts in western economies.

    iPhone 6s and 6s plus igyaan 10

The iPhone 5se, news of which has not even been confirmed by Apple yet looks to become a reality very soon.Number of case makers have started to come up with custom cases for the next iPhone, seemingly confirming to the world the plans of Apple for launching this phone soon.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has an outstanding track record making forecasts about the iPhone or iPad, expects the 4-inch device to resemble the iPhone 6. Case maker Rearth USA has also released renders of a case for what it is calling the Apple iPhone 6c.

Latest reports further suggest that Apple had come up with this idea of the 4 inch iPhone last year only but was waiting for the perfect time to bring it to the markets.

The iPhone 5se is expected to be powered by the A9 chipset, and come equipped with an 8 MP or 12 MP rear-facing camera and Live Photos. The handset will miss out on the 3D Touch feature The display could be the same as on the last 4- inch iPhone, the 5c.

The 5se will be offered in two storage options, 16 GB, and 64 GB. Pricing is expected to be around $450 (approximately Rs 30,000).

  • iPhone 7 Rumoured to Sport Dual-Camera Set-Up

    iPhone 7 Rumoured to Sport Dual-Camera Set-Up

In today’s update about the iPhone 7, we have speculations from Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple analyst from KGI. In the latest KGI memo, Kuo further strengthens the rumours of a dual-camera set-up for the iPhone 7 Plus.

The note was released on Wednesday in which Kuo talks about Apple maintaining its trend of coming out with two iPhone models in 2016 as well. We expect to see iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus at the September event this year.

The iPhone 7 would be a 4.7-inch model with the regular iSight camera built on LinX imaging technology. The iPhone 7 Plus, however, with its 5.5 inch screen will have two variants – one with a single camera, while the other would feature a dual-camera design. This design would include two sensors, both marked at 12 MP each. While Optical Image Stabilisation is a feature iPhone users are already used to, optical zoom is something we can look forward to in the new device, along with a whole new set of features like bokeh effects and variable focus this design change is likely to bring.iPhone 7 ConceptKuo further speculates that all iPhone 7 Plus models will not have the new dual-camera set-up. Only 25%-35% of shipped models will sport the new feature. Apple is gearing up for some complicated production that involves high costs with two variants of just the iPhone 7 Plus. It would be interesting to see how it pans out for the Cupertino-based company.

Samsung Reportedly Working on the Massive Galaxy A9 Pro

According to latest reports coming out of Samsung’s manufacturing and assembly units in China, a new beast of a phone is under works for the coming months. If reports are to be believed, the company is working on a new extra-large smartphone which, according to sources, might be called Galaxy A9 Pro.

There is nothing concrete on the specs of the phone, the A9 Pro bearing the device model number SM-A9100 is expected to be an enhanced version of the Galaxy A9 which was released last month.

    Samsung-Galaxy-A9_1

The Galaxy A9 that went official last month sports a 6-inch, 1080 x 1920 pixels display, and is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor, so it is expected the A9 Pro will come equipped with a higher resolution display. There are faint murmurs about it being equipped with a better processor too. The phone will reportedly also come on board with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage. The hardware will interact with the user through Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box. A battery pack of 4000mAh will power the Pro, similar to the original.

Samsung A9 which has only been launched in China, and there is no news regarding its India launch, so expect the A9 Pro to take some time to find its way across the border and into our market. But when it does, this beast of a phone can be expected to sell for around the Rs 35,000 mark.

  • HTC Reported to Launch Two Nexus Phones This Year

HTC Reported to Launch Two Nexus Phones This Year

In latest news from the land of leaks and rumours, fresh reports suggest not just one, but two Nexus handsets from HTC this year. This revelation comes courtesy of a post on Weibo. The rumour is that there will be two Nexus smartphones just like last year, but unlike 2015, this time we will see the burden of both these being handled by HTC.

    htc-nexus

The rumour also claims that these smartphones will come in two display sizes 5-inch and a 5.5-inch. The decision to bring HTC back for both these phones means they could be similar to the Nexus 5X, fueling rumours of similar looking phones for the Nexus lineup this year. Much like what Apple does with its iPhones, and Plus range.

Considering that HTC is going through a bit of rough patch, if it indeed is true, this partnership will be great news for the Taiwanese company, though it is still unclear as to why this decision did not go Huawei’s way after its stellar work with the 6P.

  • Samsung Galaxy S7 to Have Apple’s ‘Live Photos’-Like Feature

Samsung Galaxy S7 to Have Apple’s ‘Live Photos’-Like Feature

One of the coolest, and most loved things about the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus when it launched was the inclusion of Live Photos. A really fun feature to use, it helps you click photos with short video clips just, and after the photo so that you can immerse yourself in the emotion of the photograph whenever you look at it.

    Samsung-Galaxy-S7

It’s a fun feature, but not something ground-breaking that we expected Android to bring to their devices, but such is the lack of ingenuity in the smartphone market these days that we have Samsung’s already porting the idea on to their next flagship.

    Galaxy-s7

According to reports, Samsung is planning to bring a Live Photos-like feature to the Galaxy S7 under the name of Vivid Photos. But, Samsung’s version will be a bit different than Apple’s offering. Vivid Photos will not capture sound, but only the image. These images will be saved as GIFs, and will be particularly of interest to users who’ve struggled to upload Live Photos on Facebook.  Let’s see if Vivid Photos works as well for Samsung as Live Photos did for Apple.
