Samsung Confesses Galaxy S6 Edge to Face Supply Shortage

The most recent offering of Samsung, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, will be open from today for public across the globe. The South Korean smartphone behemoth expects record shipment of Galaxy S6 handsets, but it has to struggle to meet the demands of the curved screen smartphone. The news surfaced the day before when the company’s Mobile Chief J.K. Shin explained the problem in manufacturing Galaxy S6 Edge screens could lead to the limited supply of the curved edge version.

The statement by Shin about the S6 Edge reads, “We’re working hard to resolve the difficulty in supply” and that the problem could persist “for a while.” This is clearly not a good message by the company at a time when the curvy S6 Edge is ready to retail in different markets across the globe. The company might have to face the frenzy of the audience for not accomplishing its promise on time.

    Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge side

Samsung reported a record pre-order of 20 million Galaxy S6 series smartphones, out of which 15 million were for the standard Galaxy S6 and 5 million orders were placed for its edgier counterpart. The company might be facing a challenge to deliver the 5 million S6 Edge handsets that have already been pre-ordered.

The revolutionary design of the smartphone gave an ‘edge’ to the device. There have been reports by various analysts that potential hiccups in supply could prove to be a roadblock to the success of Samsung.

It would be interesting to observe how Samsung cope up with the manufacturing complexities. Meanwhile, you can watch our hands-on video below:

  • Samsung Registers 30 Percent Dip in Profits in its Latest Quarter

Samsung Registers 30 Percent Dip in Profits in its Latest Quarter

Samsung’s profits have seen a steady drop in the past few quarters. The Korean electronic giant has released the figures for the period from January to March, and there is a 30.5 percent dip in the profits for the company. But the executives at Samsung might be satisfied with the results as the dip is lower than previous quarters.

Samsung said that it expected an earning of 5.9 trillion Korean won ($5.4 billion) in operating profits for the quarter that ended on March 31. The year 2014 was perhaps the worst year for Samsung where the company saw a fall of about 60% in profits over the last quarter of the year.

Samsung S6 Edge India Launch 10
The Newest Samsung on the Block, the S6 Edge

This is Samsung’s sixth consecutive year-over-year fall in quarterly profit. The smartphone business was the major driver of growth for the company but due to lack of innovation and a barrage of competition, Samsung has steadily lost ground in the business. Industry analysts are predicting better performance in the future following the launch of new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Taking into consideration the heavy criticism for its lackluster products, Samsung has decided to bring metal frame designs that began with the Galaxy Alpha to more of its products. While the design is just one aspect of things, Samsung should also offer better specs to its customers for the price tag. Companies like Xiaomi, Lenovo, Asus and others have shown that it’s possible to offer great specs at lower prices and the consumers are demanding the same from the bigger companies.

  • Samsung Apparently Paid 500 People to Attend the Galaxy S6 Launch Event in China

Samsung Apparently Paid 500 People to Attend the Galaxy S6 Launch Event in China

The launch occasion of Samsung’s latest flagships, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, was grand. The event witnessed close to 1,000 people and most of them appreciated both the devices. But what if all those admiring attendees were actually pretending to be lured by the fresh offering? A latest report surfaced by Shanghai-based news outlet The Paper confirms that around 400 to 500 people present in the press conference were planted there to promote the products.

According to the report, a recruiting specialist was hired to bring fake fans and they were paid a certain amount to appear in the event. The source contacted one of the recruiter and he notified that around 100 people were brought by him to the Galaxy S6 launch conference. Some other recruiters were also hired for the job and the total number of paid fans reached 400-500. This accounts to half the population attending Samsung’s official launch event.

    Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge 8

The source also brought to light that it was the demand of the Korean electronics firm to bring young people to the show. As per the company’s directions, the fake attendees should look like students and don’t have to be more than 30 years. The company paid each of the clients 30 yuan ($4.80) for an hour and the recruiters were paid 20 yuan ($3.20) to bring each person. The paid fans were asked to like Samsung’s page on Baidu as well. The Paper also disclosed that the hired fans were informed to tell the press that they were true Samsung fans and were fascinated to see Samsung’s brand new handsets.

However, the company is denying to all the reports and is calling them “totally groundless and bogus.” A statement released by Samsung reads –

Our findings have indicated that under no circumstances has anyone been hired or given money to attend the event. In fact, the more than 1,100 attendees, including consumers and industry officials, have all been formally invited to the Shanghai Culture Square where the event took place.

It’s not the first time Samsung is accused of adopting unfair practices. Back in 2013, Samsung was charged for spreading negative remarks about HTC through Taiwanese students.

Samsung is losing a major chunk of its fan base in China to Apple and Xioami. The newcomer in the smartphone business, Xiaomi, has showed tremendous results and is leading the race in China and India as well. Samsung doesn’t want to rely on its smartphones only and is trying every possible bit to regain its lost status.

  • Samsung Might Launch Galaxy S6 Active With Removable Battery and SD Card Slot : Rumour

Samsung Might Launch Galaxy S6 Active With Removable Battery and SD Card Slot : Rumour

Samsung recouped the lost reputation with the launch of Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge this year at MWC. Both the handsets received tremendous positive response by customers over the world. The Galaxy S6 received lofty admiration because of its powerful processor and unbeatable specs, but it also carries with itself a some flaws that fails to impress a vast section of Samsung fans. The latest Galaxy handset doesn’t have a removable battery, expandability option to hold more content, and is not waterproof. The Korean firm now is aiming to overcome the weak points and is reportedly bringing out a new smartphone called ‘Galaxy S6 Active.’

According to the rumors, the new Galaxy S6 Active will be an overhaul of Galaxy S6 and will boast features like detachable battery, MicroSD card space and few more. The word about the S6 Active is spread by a Reddit user who claims to have drawn information from a Samsung representative. The source reports that the next smartphone from S series will not have a fingerprint sensor or a heart rate monitor. It is said to pack the same set of specs as that of S6, but the camera will be altered to bear low resolution. As said earlier, the phone is anticipated to hold a removable battery which is supposed to be bigger than that of S6. The protective features include water and dust resistance.

    Galaxy-S5-Active

He also stated that Galaxy S6 Active could bear buttons at the front, just like Galaxy S5 Active. It is expected to come out in Mid-summer. From what the user has disclosed, it is clear that Samsung doesn’t want to lose any single potential customer. The extra storage and bumped battery will surely lure users who earlier made up their minds to switch because of the hyped price of the higher variants.

There are no further details about Galaxy S6 Active and the device is in developmental stage. Another Samsung device that the company is planning to bring out is Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3, as per the same source. The smartphone houses the identical features as that of the S6 Active and will come with dust and water resistance, removable battery, and MicroSD card space.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that these are just rumors and the company hasn’t authenticated any of these reports. Customers who view the Galaxy S6 Active as a better alternative to the Galaxy S6 have to wait till summer to own this still rumored device.

We got a chance to try out the Gear VR at Samsung’s event in Bangkok and we were quite impressed by the graphics. The device lets you watch movies while sitting in a giant empty theatre. If you don’t like the empty theatre then you can easily shift to the Moon, yes with the Gear VR you can watch your favourite movies on the moon with the Eagle lunar module next too. We loved the brief experience and hope Samsung gets it to our shores soon.

With the launch of its new flagships, Samsung has also unveiled a new version of the VR headset. The new iteration is compatible with the two latest handsets, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The latest edition is built to fit the smaller screen of the smartphones and is not on sale till yet. It is likely to arrive post the arrival of Galaxy S6 and its edgier counterpart on April 10.

  • Samsung Bets On 128 GB Storage To Boost Sales of Affordable Devices

Samsung Bets On 128 GB Storage To Boost Sales of Affordable Devices

Samsung has been losing the interest of budget device buyers as its competition has been offering better specs and features to the customers. So how does Samsung take on this challenge? The Korean electronics giant decided to offer 128GB storage options to in its affordable smartphone line-up.

128GB Samsung CardsSamsung has already introduced 128 GB internal UFS storage on its latest flagship, the Galaxy S6. Now the company is planning to offer the huge internal storage in its phones and tablets that are lower in the price listings.

The new 128 GB 3-bit NAND-based eMMC 5.0 storage would adorn the future line of affordable devices from Samsung.  It will also help in recording high-definition videos and multi-tasking in those smart-gadgets. This massive storage option will be a boon to multimedia hoarders who always have to depend on SD cards and Cloud storages for their content.

It is not sure as of yet as to when this technology would come to Samsung’s lower end devices. While Samsung figures out when it can bring the storage, it should also work towards bringing attractive devices that sell on their own merits, like many other devices in the affordable segment. That would help Samsung more in the long run instead of flaunting individual features.

  • Xiaomi is India’s Biggest 4G Device Vendor for January, Knocks Down Apple and Samsung

Xiaomi is India’s Biggest 4G Device Vendor for January, Knocks Down Apple and Samsung

The battle to become the top smartphone vendor is getting tougher and steamier. After conquering China’s smartphone market, Xiaomi has once again proved itself, but this time of India. According to a report by the market analysis firm CyberMedia Research (CMR), the Chinese electronics maker Xiaomi brought down the leaders Samsung and Apple, and emerged as the biggest 4G handset seller in India. The fresh records are of January this year.

According to the data released by the research firm for January, Xiaomi is ahead of the reputed smartphone manufacturers and holds a market share of 30.8 percent. Apple, Samsung, HTC, and Micromax follow respectively at 23.8 percent, 12.1 percent, 10 percent, and 8.3 percent. Few months back, another analysis firm reported Apple as the frontrunner of the fourth quarter of 2014. The Cupertino-based tech giant held the 45 percent market share, which was followed by HTC and Samsung.

    mi4 xiaomi

These figures showcase the shipment of only 4G handsets in India. Samsung still leads the pack with 17.3 percent market share which includes feature phones, smartphones, 3G and 4G mobile phones. Lava, Microsoft, Micromax, Intex have comparatively lesser share with 11.9 percent, 10.3 percent, 9.7 percent and 8.5 percent respectively.

This outcome by CMR is a massive blow for the world’s largest smartphone vendors. Although, the numbers represent the sales figure of a month only, but it’s an indication that Samsung and Apple need to take Xiaomi as seriously as any other contender out there.

  • Samsung’s Dream Doghouse is a $30,000 Extravagant Home For Your Dog

Samsung’s Dream Doghouse is a $30,000 Extravagant Home For Your Dog

Dogs are a man’s best friend. A dog owner spends as much on their pets as they would spend on a human child, minus the heavy education costs, of course. Pet grooming parlours are mushrooming everywhere for folks who want to give their pets the best care. Samsung is now offering dog owners the ultimate doghouse, which is priced at a whopping $30,000.

Samsung’s Dream Doghouse has everything that will get your dog’s tougue wagging. It took 12 architects and fabricators over six weeks to complete. They were tasked with creating the ultimate doghouse of the future. It houses a treadmill, automatic food dispenser, hydrotherapy pool and a tablet computer playing dog-themed content. It was presented at Crufts 2015, the largest dog show in the world (which was sponsored by Samsung UK.)

    samsung dog dream house

The environment has been created to make it as dog-friendly as possible. The treadmill has been lined with a grass surface; the insides of the house have a vinyl wallpaper, and there is room for the little guy to jump around and relax.

Now it’s unsure when or if Samsung would bring the ultra luxurious house for the high flying pup to the market. The present doghouse has already been gifted by Samsung to a puppy through an online contest. The Dream Doghouse looks amazing and will be loved by the dog who gets to stay in one. But dogs are eternal kids; they would be fine with the playhouse, but all they need is love of the owners instead of a poodle palace.

However, with Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 making records within a week of its launch, there’s mounting pressure on LG to pack the G4 with invincible specs and features. We have received exclusive information that LG is taking “inspiration” from Samsung’s flagship for its new handset to bring out a worth challenger in the market.

As per exclusive information, LG is Planning to transform the G4 on the lines of the Galaxy S6.
As per exclusive information, LG is planning to transform the G4 on the lines of the Galaxy S6.

According to a reliable source close to iGyaan, the Korean producer is ditching plastic and metal body plans in favour of an all metal design with strengthed glass protection. The new LG G4 will come in a bold metallic casing, which will guard the phone against accidental drops. Besides the layout, the battery capacity and camera of the upcoming LG flagship will also be overhauled so as to give a tough competition to the Galaxy S6. For the camera, LG G4 will tie in the already existing laser autofocus with improved optics for better shooting capabilities.

The LG G4 is expected to launch in the second quarter this year, and our sources have confirmed that the roll out of the device will begin much later after its unveiling. LG has time to remodel its top segment device by estimating the responses for HTC One M9 and Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. But it should make a quick and smart move so that it can bring a worthy competitor in the market to challenge the flagships from Samsung and HTC.

The company hasn’t commented anything on the issue, but if the figures are true then the company may soon regain the top position in the smartphone market. The 20 million pre-orders is a good start for the company and it seems like the demand will keep increasing post the launch. However, the handsets have not reached the end consumers until now. Once it rolls out for the buyers, it will then become clear if the demand has matched the supply.
