Sony Hexa Lens Smartphone Camera Specifications Revealed

It was reported last week that Japanese electronics company Sony is planning on releasing a smartphone with six cameras on the back. The device was leaked by a known gadget tipster on microblogging website Twitter. Unfortunately, no information other than the handset was under development was known then. Now, the same tipster has posted the camera specifications of the rumoured Sony smartphone. The device is touted to have six cameras on the back and two on the front. This takes the number of sensors on the handset to eight.

As mentioned above, the optical specifications of the alleged Sony Xperia smartphone with six rear cameras have been leaked. According to the tipster, Max J. on Twitter the camera unit of the Xperia device will be comprised of an f/2.4 aperture equipped 20MP sensor; combined with an f/2.4 aperture equipped 8MP sensor, a variable aperture ranging from f/1.2-f/2.4 outfitted 48MP sensor; with the fourth sensor also having a variable aperture of f/1.2-f/2.4 and a resolution of 12MP. The fifth sensor will be an f/2.4 aperture kitted 16MP sensor which will be further combined by a 0.5MP Time of Flight (ToF) sensor. Unfortunately, it is not known how the company will implement each sensor to work in tandem with another. For selfies, the leak further claims a 10MP sensor combined with a 0.3MP ToF sensor will be present on the front of the smartphone.

While the camera specifications of the Sony Xperia smartphone seem authentic, the tipster claims it should be taken with a grain of salt. As the device is still in development and nowhere near its official announcement, the optics can be changed before the launch. However, if Sony does go forward and launch a handset with eight cameras in total, it will beat the previous record held by the Nokia 9 PureView for most camera sensors in a smartphone; which has a total of six cameras, five at the back and one on the front.

First Renders Of Sony Xperia XZ4 Compact Leak Online

Sony Mobile in early 2018 launched their XZ3 smartphone and the CAD renders of its successor, XZ4 Compact have leaked online. The device carries the Compact suffix which states that it is a lower spec variant of the Sony XZ4. Initial renders of the XZ4 compact indicate that it will be a midrange smartphone.

    Xperia XZ4 Compact Design

The front and rear of the Sony XZ4 Compact appear to be made out of glass. The display of the smartphone is surrounded by thick bottom and top bezels. The top bezel accommodates the earpiece and the front-facing camera along with the LED flash, while the bottom bezel carries the company branding and the secondary front firing speaker. The right side of the smartphone is occupied by the volume rockers and the power button. Although it is not official, the shape of the power button suggests that it might double as a fingerprint scanner. The 3.5 mm audio jack and the microphone pinhole are placed on the top while the Type-C USB port for charging and data transfer is on the bottom.

The Sony XZ4 Compact has curved sides and edges which will provide for an ergonomic graspability. The rear glass panel of the device harbors the XPERIA logo and the rear facing camera along with the LED flash. While the official dimensions of the smartphone are not available, according to the leaker, OnLeaks the device measures 139.9 x 66.5 x 9.3 mm.

    • Single Front Camera
    • Single Rear Camera
    • USB-C Port

  • Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium With 4K HDR Display Launched

Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium With 4K HDR Display Launched

Sony kicked off 2018 with the launch of two flagship smartphones, the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact, both running on the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. About two months later, Sony has now unveiled the new Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium with a few significant upgrades. The Xperia XZ2 Premium will be available later in the summer but, its pricing details have not been revealed yet.

The Xperia XZ2 Premium has the new curvy design that Sony showed off with the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. It is a departure from the rectangular boxy design that Sony smartphones have sported for a long time.

One of the biggest upgrades over the Xperia XZ2 is the display. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium now has a 5.8 inch IPS LCD display with a 4K resolution. The regular Xperia XZ2 has a 5.7 inch IPS LCD display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium also supports HDR. Sony also introduced a new vibration system with the XZ2 at Mobile World Congress. The feature basically provides a rumble feedback to match whatever is happening on the screen.

Powering the Xperia XZ2 Premium is a 3540 mAh battery with QuickCharge 4.0 and wireless charging. The 3.5mm headphone jack is also missing, which seems to be the new norm.

For the first time ever, Sony has also introduced a dual-camera setup on a smartphone. The primary camera is a 19MP RGB Exmor RS sensor with an f/1.8 aperture while the second lens is a 12MP Monochrome sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. This implementation is different from the likes of Apple and Samsung which have used a telephoto lens for portrait mode shots.

Sony claims that apart from the monochrome lens helping in better black-and-white shots, it will improve low-light photography as well. During still photography, the XZ2 Premium can reach a maximum ISO of 51,200 and for shooting videos, as high as 12,800. To avoid graininess in the pictures with such high ISO, Sony claims its “AUBE fusion image signal processor” can combine the data of both sensors, optimize for low light, and reduce noise. Features like portrait mode and monochrome bokeh shots will be introduced via a software update in Q3 of 2018.

There are no details about a possible launch of the Xperia XZ2 Premium in India.  However, we expect the phone to launch in India end May or early June.

Sony Launches the Xperia XZ Premium In India – First Phone With Snapdragon 835

Sony has launched the new Xperia XZ Premium in India, making it the first phone to officially launch with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. The Xperia XZ Premium is also the world’s first phone with a 4K HDR display. Sony has launched the XZ Premium in India at a price of Rs 59,990 and if you prebook the phone from 2nd – 11th June you also receive a SRS-XB20 wireless bluetooth speaker free. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium goes on Sale in India starting 12th June.

The Xperia XZ premium comes after a few phones that failed to live up to expectations from Sony in 2016, with certain Sony signature things missing like IP certifications and the top of the line hardware. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium however solves all the problems with a full package from the Japanese company.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a 5.5 inch 4K HDR Display with TRILUMINOS Display for mobile and X-Reality for mobile picture engine. The 4K display comes into play whenever high res content is available like a 4k video or movie. Natively the display runs Android at QHD resolutions and sometimes at 1920 x 1080p like most other QHD phones.  This is the first true 4K display on a mobile phone and it looks gorgeous.

The built and design of the phone mostly remain at par with previous generations of Sony flagships, however, the new phone adds Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back along with IP68 weather resistance. The new design of the phone is highly reflective and in India the phone has been launched in two colors Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black.

Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset along with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of Storage with microSD support for 256 GB. Running all the hardware is a 3230 mAh battery with Qnovo Adaptive charging and Quick Charge 3.0.

Sony too has left out on the dual camera setups, and stuck with a 19MP Motion Eye camera which has a 1/ 2.3”  Exmor RS for mobile memory stacked sensor with a pixel size of 1.22?m and Predictive Hybrid Autofocus.
The XZ Premium also offers 960 fps Super slow motion video and the camera is equipped with a 25 mm wide G Lens with a F2.0 Aperture.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has SteadyShot 5-axis image stabilization and does 4K recording at 30fps. The front camera is a 13MP 1/ 3.06”  Exmor RS for mobile image sensor with a 22mm Wide-angle lens with an F2.0 aperture. The front too has SteadyShot with 5-axis stabilization.

The front of the phone does have stereo forward firing speakers with a great sound and the phone supports Hi-Res audio and LDAC via the USB -C port. Interestingly the Xperia XZ Premium maintains the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Android 7.1.1 runs out of the box with Sony’s layer of skin which is essentially pretty close to stock with minimum customizations. Sony does offer up some apps, including their video, gallery and Sony Liv. Inside the box you will get:

    • One unit of Xperia XZ Premium
    • Instruction Manual
    • Quick Charger (UCH12) worth MRP 1,490/-

Sony Launched 7.7mm-Thin Xperia T3 in India

Sony, refreshing its mid-range smartphone segment, launched the Xperia T3 in India and the phone will be available starting Monday, 28th July.

It runs Android 4.4 KitKat OS out of the box, and has been launched in a single SIM variant, with no word on if a dual-SIM variant will be available soon. The company is proud of the large-screen smartphone’s slim design, giving it a thickness of 7.7mm, and a weight of 148 grams.

The T3 is a distinct looking device and it features a stainless steel frame around the sides, which immediately sets it apart from other mid-range Sony phones, which normally feature matte plastic on the sides. The Android smartphone from Sony features a 5.3-inch (720×1280 pixel) HD Triluminos display powered by a BRAVIA Engine 2. The display offers a pixel density of 277ppi. A quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8228) processor powers the device, clocked at 1.4GHz, with 1GB of RAM.

The smartphone sports an 8MP rear camera with auto focus Sony Exmor RS for mobile image sensors. The Xperia T3’s rear camera comes with features such as scene detection, HDR, face recognition, red-eye reduction, sweep Panorama and geo tagging. It also houses a 1.1-megapixel front-facing camera.

In terms of connectivity, Xperia T3 supports Wi-Fi, Miracast, NFC, LTE and A-GPS. It comes with 2500mAh battery promising standby time of up to 688 hours and talk time of up to 12 hours 46 minutes. It will be available in three colour options including Black, Purple and White.

The high pricing of the device may cost them some of their potential buyers, especially when there are so many great alternatives available. The Nexus 5, LG G2 and the Galaxy S4 come within the same price range and feature better specs.
