Press Release

Development of the Porsche super sports car enters next phase

Atlanta. The Porsche 918 Spyder is on the road: Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has taken the driving trials of the super sports car of the future a step further with completion of the initial prototypes. The 918 Spyder is planned for production at the end of September 2013, with the first customer deliveries currently scheduled for the United States late in 2013. “What we are doing with the 918 Spyder is redefining driving fun, efficiency and performance,” said Wolfgang Hatz, Member of the Executive Board Research and Development of Porsche AG.

The prototypes, their camouflage harking back to historical Porsche 917 racing cars, signal the final touches to the 918 Spyder. The focus is on the interplay between the highly sophisticated individual drive components. The combination of combustion engine and two independent electric motors – one on the front axle and one in the drive line, acting on the rear wheels – poses completely new demands on the development of the operating strategies. “They are therefore a critical component in this vehicle into which we have put all of our expertise and capacity for innovation,” said Wolfgang Hatz. These operating strategies and the development of the software to go with them are one of Porsche’s core competences. Both of them have a major influence on the extreme driving fun to be had with the 918 Spyder and they make possible a unique combination of minimal fuel consumption and maximum performance. The initial results of the driving trials are in line with the high expectations placed on the 918 Spyder.

The super sports car is designed as a plug-in hybrid vehicle combining a high-performance combustion engine with cutting-edge electric motors for extraordinary performance: on the one hand, the dynamics of a racing machine boasting more than 770 hp, on the other hand, fuel consumption in the region of three litres per 100 kilometres. Moreover, Porsche is breaking yet more new ground with the technology demonstrator with spectacular solutions such as the full carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque with unit carrier, fully adaptive aerodynamics, adaptive rear-axle steering and the upward-venting “top pipes” exhaust system. In the process, the 918 Spyder is offering a glimpse of what Porsche Intelligent Performance may be capable of in future.

Press Release

New Delhi, Delhi, May 14, 2012 / KaperNET, a global VPN service provider, is proud to announce the successful completion of the closed BETA test and the public launch of its VPN services in India to consumers, businesses and service providers. We’ve setup state of the art hardware in leading data-centers in the USA to ensure seamless connectivity from your device to our servers. With ultra-low latency, high speed connections, we offer a service that is free from bandwidth restrictions and headaches.

With a Premium VPN connection from KaperNET your ISP is not able to monitor and control your online communications and browsing activity, as all traffic is encrypted and no website URLs, videos, e-mails or downloads are seen by your ISP. A Premium VPN Connection provides a layer of security and anonymity by hiding your real IP address. As it is a secure connection between your device and our servers, no one can keep track of your browsing history or habits.

In some countries, access to various VOIP services like Skype can be unblocked by using our service. Along with VOIP applications, our service also unblocks websites that restrict content geographically.

What is a VPN and how does it work?

virtual private network (VPN) is a secure network that uses primarily public telecommunication infrastructures, such as the Internet, to provide remote offices or traveling users an access to a central organizational network. VPNs may serve any network functionality that is found on any network, such as sharing of data and access to network resources, printers, databases, websites, etc. A VPN user typically experiences the central network in a manner that is identical to being connected directly to the central network. VPN technology via the public Internet has replaced the need to requisition and maintain expensive dedicated leased-line telecommunication circuits once typical in wide-area network installations.

What are the benefits of using a VPN?

  • Anonymity: When you are connected to the Internet, either at home or on a public network, it is possible for your ISP or even a hacker to track your every move online. Your Internet provider keeps a log file that shows the times your IP address was used and where it connected to. Some Internet providers save these log files indefinitely and they may give these files to whoever asks with or without a court order and this would mean every web site you visited and everything you did is no longer private… BUT when using a VPN with us, all that your ISP log would show is an encrypted connection to a server. All Internet traffic leaves one of our servers with the same external IP address. All the traffic from many users becomes mingled together and is inseparable should someone try to do it.
  • Security: Our VPN Service allows you to use the same Internet Service Provider (ISP) you currently have and at the same time you remain anonymous in all your Internet activities by routing your traffic through our servers via a secure encrypted tunnel (Virtual Private Network), making it impossible for even your ISP to “spy” on you. By using our service, whenever you visit a web site, send email, chat, ICQ, IRC, FTP, Peer to Peer (P2P), make Internet phone calls etc., your real IP address is not provided to the other people involved in the transaction. This is a tremendous preventive measure against hacking. Most hacking is based on using your real IP address, which the hacker won’t be able to get. As a result we are in fact acting as a firewall keeping you safe from any abuse.

Pricing and Availability

We offer Iron ($8 monthly), Gold ($20 quarterly), Diamond ($35 semi annually) and Platinum ($50 annually) plans with the following features:

  • Unlimited Bandwidth (No restrictions)
  • Access to All Servers
  • 100% Secure and Anonymous
  • PPTP & OpenVPN Protocols
  • Compatible with Windows/Mac/Linux/iOS/Android

Researchers use Virus’s traits to create electricity from motion http://igyaan.in/2012/05/23696/researchers-viruss-traits-create-electricity-motion http://igyaan.in/2012/05/23696/researchers-viruss-traits-create-electricity-motion#comments Wed, 16 May 2012 08:42:14 +0000 AdityaT http://igyaan.in/?p=23696 Researchers at Berkeley Labs have now coated electrodes with modified M13 bacteriophage, a harmless bacteria-eating virus, to create the first ever organic piezoelectric material which can convert force to electricity.

The researchers also said that the option is a lot environment friendly as the material is non-toxic, organizes naturally into thin layers and self-regenerates, giving it a possible advantage over chemical options.

By attaching thin layers to, for example, shoes one would be able to charge devices on the go, by sending cables up to pockets. Lets hope there isn’t an electrical leak, else some privates may get electrocuted.

Hands on with the Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS Android 4.0.3 Update in India http://igyaan.in/Applications-detail/hands-samsung-galaxy-s2-ics-android-4-0-3-update-india http://igyaan.in/Applications-detail/hands-samsung-galaxy-s2-ics-android-4-0-3-update-india#comments Mon, 14 May 2012 08:35:21 +0000 Bharat Nagpal http://igyaan.in/?post_type=os_applications&p=23658 Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS india 4 560x372 Hands on with the Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS Android 4.0.3 Update in India

With the new Software Update for Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note to 4.0.3 out, lots of people were left wondering why their devices did not get the updates. The Galaxy Note update was taken off due to some incompatibility issues with network providers in India and the company is working on a fix. Where as, the Galaxy S2 updates will continue to roll out throughout the month, so if your device has not yet got it wait for a couple of days and check again.

We go hands on with the new update and check out the basic features.

Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS india 6 560x372 Hands on with the Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS Android 4.0.3 Update in India

Lock Screen

The first noticeable change is the lock screen, the update brings a brand new lock screen to the S2. You will be able to find it very similar to the one on the Galaxy Note, notice the bottom of the scree it now says “swipe screen to unlock”

Face Unlock

Now with the ICS update you also get the face unlock feature, which seems to work great fro the time being, but it reportedly is a low security method, check image above.

New Mutitasking

TouchWiz on Android 4.0.3 makes away with the Samsung Task manager to switch to the standard Android ICS swipe to close task manager, which is seeming snappier and more efficient. We however miss the integration of the RAM Management and application force close.

Encryption

Added security benefits now include a new SD card encryption, to protect the data on your memory cards. The ICS-stuffed S2 includes an option to fully encrypt the phone and its SD card. Gingerbread S2 uses don’t have this option.

Settings, Menus and Notifications

Samsung has made some changes to the standard settings app as well by adding a handy slider to quickly toggle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on and off.  The ICS update on the S2 includes a handy ‘Data Usage’ menu. This lets you keep tabs on how much data you’re using, set a data warning limit, find out which apps and functions are gobbling data and toggle data on and off quickly.

The battery menu, which shows the amount of charge left and the apps that are using it, has also been moved to the main settings panel. The ‘Tethering & portable hotspot’ option is now listed under a ‘More…’ menu near the top of the settings screen, The ’More…’ option also holds the settings to Data network and APN edits etc.

The notifications tray on the two S2 devices looks much the same, but ICS adds the ability to hold your finger down on an individual item and swipe it off the screen.

Chrome

With ICS on the S2, the biggest benefit seems to be Chrome browser’s ability to be downloaded and exploited on the device. Chrome for Android brings fancy 3D tabs to your mobile browsing experience, it also supports a pre-caching function that means the first site in the list of suggested sites will load extra quickly.

Oter many UI changes and the addition of a restart option in the power menu make life easier on the S2 ICS update. The overall interface seems snappier and boots up much faster. But, its too early to commit to these positives. If you managed to upgrade how was your experience.?

Ferrari Press Release

Very positive Ferrari first quarter growth

- Revenues of 556 Million Euro (+13.2%)
- 1,733 cars delivered (+11.5%)
- Net profits of 42.1 Million Euro (+17.2%)
- Record industrial net cash of 860 Million Euro

Excellent results from the USA (+16%), United Kingdom (+31%), Germany (+24%) and Middle East (+23%)

Maranello, 10th May 2012 – The Board of Directors of Ferrari S.p.A. met today under the chairmanship of Luca di Montezemolo to examine the company’s accounts for the first quarter of 2012.

On March 31st, Ferrari recorded a string of excellent results: revenues rose to 556.1 million euro (+13.2 per cent) and 1,733 cars were delivered to the dealership network, an increase of 11.5 per cent on the same period last year.

These results are the fruit of the success of the 12-cylinder FF and the continuing popularity of the 8-cylinder models, most notably the Ferrari California, which is the company’s best-selling GT, and the coupé and spider versions of the 458 which top the sports car segment.

One hundred per cent of Ferraris are personalised by their owners who, since the start of 2012, have also been able to avail of the innovative Tailor Made programme, which allows each client to tailor their own bespoke car using an extensive variety of unique and exclusive materials, colours and finishes, with the assistance of a specialist team.

The F12berlinetta, the most powerful and high performance Prancing Horse car ever built and the first in a new generation of V12s, made no contribution to these results as deliveries will not commence until the second part of the year.

Trading profit grew by 13.4 per cent to 60.5 million euro, while net profits rose by 17.2 per cent (42.1 million euro).

Ferrari’s industrial net cash position on March 31st was the strongest in its history at 860 million euro. This was achieved despite keeping product investment extremely high and thanks to a net cash flow for the first quarter of 152 million euro.

The one-make series of the Prancing Horse, the Ferrari Challenge, is also proving to be very successful with the 2012 racing season starting with 100 458 Challenge cars on the tracks in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

In terms of sales, the US remains Ferrari’s most important market recording growth of 16 per cent even after the excellent figures recorded in 2011.

Sales in Europe were also very positive with excellent results in the United Kingdom (+31 per cent, 177 cars delivered) and in Germany (up 24 per cent). Italy is the exception to this trend with sales of 121 cars, down 65 compared to the first quarter 2011 as a result of the economic situation and the local government’s recent financial initiatives.

In the Far East, after a record 2011, the Greater China market (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) continued to grow with 154 cars delivered in the first quarter. Brand activities (retail, wholesale, licensing and e-commerce) are up by 10 per cent overall: there are now 50 Ferrari Stores worldwide, including a new store in Madrid which opens officially at the end of May.

Ferrari also retains its leadership in online activities with over 8 million friends on Facebook and almost one million on Google +.

Sony Xperia U Hands On http://igyaan.in/2012/05/23619/sony-xperia-hands http://igyaan.in/2012/05/23619/sony-xperia-hands#comments Sat, 12 May 2012 10:50:18 +0000 Bharat Nagpal http://igyaan.in/?p=23619 sony xperia u hands on 9 560x372 Sony Xperia U Hands On

Sony is just about to release the Xperia U in the Indian market, for a price of Rs. 17,000/-. For that price we believe the Xperia U has a lot to offer.

The first thing that comes to attention as soon as you handle the device is different light bar at the bottom of the phone. The bar is identical to the one on the Xperia S but with one major difference. It can change colors according to the theme selected. Not only the light bar, but also a small cover at the bottom of the device can be changed to match the theme of the phone’s screen.

In terms of build quality the phone is really solid, and feels really sleek and comfortable in the hand. It is fairly thick at 12 mm and has a light weight of 110 grams. It currently runs Google Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) (Upgrade to Android 4, Ice Cream Sandwich, planned in Quarter 2 2012) ,which is beautifully skinned with their Timescape UI, on top of a 1 GHz STE U8500 Dual Core processor. On the back it has a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and will be available in two colors black and White, with several replaceable bottom caps.
