  • GfK: India to Be Largest Contributor to Smartphone Sales Growth Globally

GfK: India to Be Largest Contributor to Smartphone Sales Growth Globally

New research from GfK suggests that the smartphones prices in India may fall by 11% in 2015 with the demand for 4G devices capturing 6% of the smartphone unit demand. This research also says that India would soon become the largest smartphone market, globally.

GfK, Germany’s largest market research institute has commented saying:

“4G unit share was 58 percent globally in the second quarter of 2015, up from 26 percent in the second quarter of 2014. This represents a unit growth of 129 percent year-on-year, with China leading the global 4G ramp up,”

As their forecasts suggest – the 4G smartphone sales will continue to grow at the expense of 3G smartphone devices, with GfK director Kevin Walsh stating that, “India is expected to be the largest contributor of absolute smartphone unit growth globally this year.”

They noted a regional difference in 4G take up stating price polarisation in North America, saturation in Western European markets, local brands tackling global players in India and China, and intense price competition in emerging markets.

Apart from this, we have also seen the interest of Chinese vendors in the Indian market, which has intensified the competition between international and local vendors in India.

However, they have mentioned a smartphone average selling price (ASPs) decline of 12% in India in the second quarter of 2015.

LG Speculated to be Working on the First Nexus Smartwatch, Codenamed ‘Nemo’

New reports suggest, that LG is working on a new Android Wear watch codenamed “Nemo”. And this could be the first Nexus smartwatch. What is known about the smartwatch is that it will have the highest resolution display any Android Wear watch has ever had at 480 x 480 resolution.

The connection that has been made is the due to the codename used. In the past, Nexus devices have used a similar nomenclature. Nexus 6 was codenamed ‘Shamu’, and Nexus 9 was ‘Hammerhead.’

Other rumours suggest that the watch will have a circular 1.3-inch display size with a pixel density of around 340 to 400 ppi. The importance of this pixel density is that it should ideally be able to eliminate readability issues.

With LG catching up in the smartwatch race with the anticipation of its new smartwatch, you can watch this space for more details about this new device.

  • Galaxy O Series : Samsung Expected to Launch Yet Another Line-Up of Devices

Galaxy O Series : Samsung Expected to Launch Yet Another Line-Up of Devices

According to reports, Samsung is currently working on two new smartphones, called the SM-G550 and the SM-G600. These two new devices are said to be released under the new Galaxy O series. Therefore, it has been concluded that SM-G550 will most probably be named the Galaxy O5 and the the SM-G600 will be called the Galaxy O7.

In 2014, Samsung had begun improving their smartphones by grouping all the new launches under different letters of the alphabet such as – Galaxy J, Galaxy E, Galaxy A, Galaxy O, Galaxy S etc. The market is currently flooded with Samsung smartphones available in all sizes and prices. The only unchanged factor amongst the large variety of smartphones is its form factor. It is still to be seen whether the Galaxy O series comes with a new design that would be easier for users to differentiate it from other smartphones made by the company.

Apple on the other hand (Samsung’s direct competitor), has only one solid line of smartphones and more often than not, have higher profits than Samsung. This happens regardless of whether Samsung occupies a larger market share or not.

However, no confirmation about the specification or release date of the devices have been made by the company itself.

Facebook Would Now Like to Become a Blogging Platform

Most of us may not know that Facebook did have a small ‘Notes’ feature back in 2006, where one could write longer statuses, pictures, articles etc. This feature got buried, when the Timeline came into being in 2011. However, with blogging currently being the hottest trend amongst college graduates and job-seekers, Facebook has decided to bring back its ‘Notes’ feature with a bang.

    FB Notes 1

With Facebook now testing design updates for Notes; it is said that the new features include nearly full-width images without cluttered sidebars, and big cover images like Facebook profiles.

“We’re testing an update to Notes to make it easier for people to create and read longer-form stories on Facebook.” – Facebook

The new Notes’ sleek design caters to both business entrepreneurs, politicians, and other public figures alike. However, questions have been asked as to whether Facebook is willing to put the power of the feed behind it. With the design still being updated, it is yet to be seen, whether the new Notes gathers momentum and helps Facebook expand over the internet, even more than it already has.

Meizu, one of China’s top 10 smartphone brands, is said to be soon launching a new product in India on the 26th of August 2015.

Reports suggest that this new product could be the MX5 smartphone which was announced in China back in June this year. The expected pricing of this product is quoted as being in the sub-20,000 range.

The MX5 is priced at 260 euros (approx. Rs.18,826) with features such as – a 5.5 inch screen with an AMOLED captive touchscreen and a 20.7 MP camera and a 5MP front camera.

The MX5 is reportedly being closely followed by other Chinese vendors, especially OnePlus. As Kiranjeet Kaur, Research Manager with IDC’s Asia/Pacific MobilePhone team said:

“Key to the success of the Chinese vendors has been popular flash sales through online players such as Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon. At the same time, they also focused on bringing more 4G phones at affordable $100-150 price points which is left unattended by Indian and global vendors”.

It is yet to be seen whether India will be the new battlefield for Chinese vendors.

Here’s How You Can Have a Dual-SIM Feature Even On Your iPhone 6

The Apple iPhones seem to be very efficient in every respect, except for the fact that they do not ever come with a dual-SIM feature. This may or may not be a huge factor for many people, but there are  a select few perhaps,s who would like to use just one phone for their work as well as their personal calls/messages/emails.

    iphone 6 piece kickstarter

Kickstarter has the perfect solution to your problems, if you are in the latter category of users. They aim to launch a product called Piece that allow the iPhone 6 and other older iPhone models to handle two different SIMs on one phone.

The gadget is small enough to fit in a wallet, without jutting out and can connect to the iPhone via Bluetooth. It is said to have a slot for your second SIM and has a battery that lasts for up to 150 hours.

To activate this, there is a special iOS app that lets you manage the Piece SIM. This device also allows you to locate your handset when the two devices are more than 30 feet apart. • The Galaxy S6 Edge Vs. the S6 Edge+

The Galaxy S6 Edge Vs. the S6 Edge+

The Unpacked Event, saw the launch of two devices – the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+. The S6 Edge+ is the bigger and the edgier sibling to the glamorous Galaxy S6 Edge.

Samsung S6 Edge India Launch 5

The Galaxy S6 Edge+ is noted to have a bigger display but yet is a smaller and more compact when compared to devices like the iPhone 6 Plus which have a smaller 5.5 inch display. The S6 Edge seemed to be the only premium look and feed Samsung device which even came close to the iPhone 6. But, with the S6 Edge+ it seems like that mission might have reached closer to its target, especially by excluding the expandable memory feature.

    LifeStyle 22
The device seems almost impeccable when it comes to its design – the S6 Edge had an aluminum frame and was protected by the Gorilla Glass 4 on both sides, this feature has been retained by the S6 Edge+ too. However, the new device looks sleeker with a display that extends up to the edges of the curved screen.

The S6 Edge had been applauded as being the first dual edged display smartphone and the S6 Edge+ continues to be applauded with a slight change of making the edges softer and thereby enhancing the visual appeal of the smartphone, the bigger stance of the phone allows for more display real estate.

    Fast Wireless Charging
    Fast Wireless Charging

Samsung has kept most of the hardware intact loosing some pixel density to the larger display. However the LPDDR4 RAM sees a bump up to 4 GB and so does the battery by about 400 mAh.

The new S6 Edge+ features fast wireless charging, which is a mix of the fast charging seen on the S6 along with a new wireless charging standard developed by Samsung, which is said to fully charge the handset in about 120 minutes wirelessly.

    SideSync

The S6 Edge+ along with Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 5 both support a new feature called SideSync which is much like Apple’s continuity however it goes further by letting you use your phone from the computer screen and share files. This feature is also said to work on both Windows and Mac platforms.
