Meizu C9 To Go on Sale In India On December 5

Chinese electronics manufacturer, Meizu announced that they will launch their high-end Meizu 16 smartphone in India on December 5. In a recently shared tweet, the company has notified that along with Meizu 16, they will also launch the budget Meizu C9 smartphone. The Meizu 9 will be exclusively available on Amazon.in and will go on sale from December 5.

Design And Specs

The Meizu C9 has a glass front and plastic rear build. It weighs 150 grams and measures 146.2 x 71.2 x 9.7mm. The front of the device accommodates the 5.45-inch HD+ display which has a pixel density of 282 ppi and a resolution of 1440 x 720 px. The left and right bezels around the display are negligible while the top and bottom bezels are quite wide. The top bezel houses the earpiece and the 8 MP front-facing selfie camera. Talking about the sides, the left side of the handset is occupied by the power button and volume rockers while the bottom houses the loudspeaker, 3.5 mm audio jack and the USB port.

The rear of the Meizu C9 harbors the 13 MP camera along with LED flash and the company branding. It features the 1.3 GHz Quad Core SC9832E processor with Mali-T720 GPU. The smartphone packs a 3,000 mAh Lithium Ion battery and runs on Android 8.0 Oreo. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone gets Dual SIM slots with 4G support, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and GPS. It also has a bunch of sensors which include the gravity sensor, ambient light sensor, and a range sensor.

Price, Colours And Storage Variants

The Meizu C9 is available in two color options which are Blue and Black. In terms of memory and storage, the smartphone is available in a 2 GB RAM + 16 GB ROM variant. Furthermore, it also supports memory expandability upto 128 GB via microSD. The India price is currently is unavailable but it is expected to have a similar price as the Indonesian variant. The Meizu C9 is already available in Indonesia and costs Rp. 999,000 (around Rs 4,900).

Lenovo Z5s With In-Screen Camera To Launch On December 6
Earlier today we reported that Samsung will launch their Galaxy A8s smartphone with the Infinity-O notch display on December 10. This announcement was made soon after Huawei announced that their Huawei Nova 4 with a similar display cutout will launch on December 17. Now to steal the thunder from Samsung, Lenovo has announced they will launch the Lenovo Z5s with in-screen camera cutout on December 6.

Lenovo Z5s

The Lenovo Z5s is the latest member in Lenovo’s Z series of smartphones. The company launched the Lenovo Z5 Pro last month which has an incredible 95% screen-to-body ratio. The Lenovo Z5s was previously spotted on TENAA which had revealed a lot of information about its specifications. It has a 6.3-inch display with a very high screen-to-body ratio and a tiny circular cutout along the top bezel.

The Lenovo Z5s measures 156.7 x 74.5 x 7.8mm and it features a 3,210 mAh Lithium Ion battery. On the rear, the handset has a vertically aligned triple camera module along with an LED Flash and the fingerprint sensor. Other important details like the CPU and GPU are currently not available but it has similar specs as the Lenovo Z5 Pro. Most notably, the Z5 Pro, unlike the Z5s, has a sliding screen which conceals the front cameras.

Snapdragon 855 Details Leak Before Official Launch

The latest flagship Chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 855 is set to launch today. Ahead of its official launch, TechCrunch accidentally published an article which revealed crucial details about the same. Although they have taken down the article, the vital information is already out.

Revelations

The article confirmed that the chipset will officially be called the Snapdragon 855 and not Snapdragon 8155 which was previously claimed. According to the article, Snapdragon 8155 was just the codename and not the official name. The Snapdragon 855 is the successor to the Snapdragon 845 which was launched last year and is present on devices like the OnePlus 6T & the Pixel 3 XL. Unlike its predecessor, the new chipset uses 7 nm manufacturing technology and is made by TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company).

The Snapdragon 855 also has a dedicated NPU (Neural Processing Unit). The company claims the new chipset has up to three times better performance than the last generation. Additionally, it also has the Snapdragon X24 LTE modem and Snapdragon X50 5G modem.

Cores & Clock Speed

The Snapdragon 855 comprises of the Adreno 640 GPU and Octa Core CPU. It has three CPU clusters, including one high-performance Kryo Gold core clocked at 2.84 GHz, three moderate-performance Kryo Gold cores clocked at 2.42 GHz and four power-saving Kryo silver cores clocked at 1.78 GHz. The new Adreno 640 GPU is also optimised to maximise the performance of applications using AR (Augmented Reality).

Furthermore, the Snapdragon 855 also has support for a 3D sonic sensor. It provides support for enhanced ultra-sonic in-display fingerprint sensors. Currently, phones with in-display fingerprint sensors use optical sensors which are quite secure but are no match to the ultrasonic scanners. Qualcomm has readied an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner which allows biometric recognition even if your fingers are dusty or sweaty. It makes use of sound waves which can penetrate obstructions like dust and oil.

Samsung Galaxy A8s To Launch on December 10
For a long time, Samsung has teased the launch of their Galaxy A8s smartphone. The key highlight of the upcoming smartphone is its Infinity-O display. Samsung’s Infinity-O display has a lateral cutout in the screen for the front-facing selfie camera. Recently, the company has announced that the Galaxy A8s will launch on December 12th. Most notably, Samsung has made this announcement hours after Huawei teased that the Nova 4 with a similar feature will launch on December 17. Furthermore, the same company makes the LCD displays for both the smartphones. However, according to reports, the handset from Samsung will be more premium out of the two.

The teaser for the Samsung Galaxy A8s was shared on Chinese social media platform, Weibo. It reads the “Real Galaxy” and reveals that the smartphone will launch on December 12th. The poster also reveals a lot of information about the design of the smartphone. The front of the smartphone has an edge-to-edge display with marginal bezels on all four sides. The earpiece is present in the top bezel. Additionally, it also has dual antenna lines on the top edge. Like other Samsung phones, the volume rockers and the power button are placed on the right side while the dedicated Bixby button is on the left.

OnePlus To Setup R&D Centre In Hyderabad

India is one of the world’s largest market for smartphones. China-based OnePlus, has seen tremendous growth in the country. In a recent announcement, the company has spread some light on their future roadmap for India. The company has revealed that they will soon set up a massive R&D facility in India. The R&D facility will be located in Hyderabad, which the company claims is one of the most active start-up zones in the country. OnePlus plans to not only develop technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in this facility but also work on India-centric innovations.

Officials also commented that within three years, they plan to grow the Hyderabad facility into their biggest R&D centre globally. OnePlus also said that this facility will play a crucial role in the company’s upcoming products. They also intend to achieve long-term growth in India. Furthermore, the company adds that to boost growth, they also wish to embrace the Make In India strategy.

Additionally, the smartphone also has triple rear cameras along with an LED flash. The Google Pixel 3 Lite aka Sargo has been continuously making rounds of the internet. According to reports, it is a low specced variant of the previously launched Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL. In terms of looks, it has a similar design language as the Pixel 3. It has thin right and left bezels while the top and bottom bezels are quite prominent. The leak suggests that the smartphone packs the Octa Core Snapdragon 710 SoC and is powered by a 2,916 mAh battery. Surprisingly, it also has a 3.5 mm jack which the elder siblings miss out on. The device is expected to be a sub $ 500 smartphone and if it gets the same camera as the Pixel 3, it will definitely turn a lot of heads. Vivo is a subsidiary of BBK electronics, who also own Oppo and OnePlus. Collectively, BBK electronics has developed many groundbreaking technologies like an in-display fingerprint sensor and super fast charging (OnePlus’s DASH charge and Oppo’s SuperVOOC). Earlier this year, the organisation launched the Vivo Nex S smartphone with an edge-to-edge display and a pop-up camera. Not long ago, its successor Vivo Nex S2 was spotted online with triple cameras and dual displays. Another Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Nubia has already launched a Dual-screen smartphone called the Nubia X.

The Weibo post was shared by A non-company executive but the shared posters look legit due to their quality. Although the post is in Chinese, use of the translation software reveals that the Vivo Nex S2 will launch on the 11th of December.

The previously leaked images of the alleged Vivo Nex S2 disclose that the smartphone has an edge-to-edge display with negligible bezels. The rear of the device has a triple camera module with LED flash and a secondary smaller sized screen on the back. The rear also carries the company branding which is placed below the secondary display. Like its predecessor, it is expected to have an in-display fingerprint sensor to quickly and securely unlock it. Finnish smartphone manufacturer, Nokia is on a smartphone launching spree in India. Last month, the company launched their budget-friendly Nokia 3.1 smartphone. Now they have unveiled the Nokia 7.1, which is a sub 20k smartphone. Like other Nokia phones, it also is an Android One device. MediaTek Teases Upcoming Helio P90 SoC

MediaTek is a Taiwanese company that designs chips for mobile phones and other smart devices. Last month, the company unveiled their Helio P70 chipset which is present on the latest Realme U1 smartphone. Recently the company has teased another upcoming high-end chipset called the Helio P90. It will be the most powerful chipset that the company has designed to date. The AI benchmarks of the Helio P90 are already available online and the chipset gets the number two spot in the listing.

According to the listing, the chipset scores 19453 points and is only second to the Snapdragon 8150 which gets 22082 points. Surprisingly, the 7 nm Huawei Kirin 980 is at number four in the listing after the Snapdragon 845 which gets the number three spot.

What To Expect?

The upcoming Helio P90, like other MediaTek chipsets, will have an aggressive pricing. Therefore, it is most likely to be present on devices from companies like Oppo, Realme, and Xiaomi.

MediaTek has not officially announced the unveiling date of the Helio P90 SoC but the tweet indicates that its launch is around the corner. It is expected to launch before the end of 2018.
