Moto X+1 Press Images Leaked on Twitter

Motorola has quite an impressive line-up to showcase this season. We recently reported that the company is planning to launch 9 devices in next 4 months. Now, the popular leakster Evan Blass, a.k.a. Evleaks has revealed the Moto X +1 through leaked press renders.

The leaked images are supposedly meant for US carrier Verizon. However, the pictures give you a pretty detailed idea of what the device will look like. The first obvious change is the metal band around the sides of the phone, which was revealed in an earlier leak as well.

The X+1 seems to sport dual camera flashes, a wooden back option, and front-facing speakers like the Moto E. The setup of the camera on the back of the handset is notably a part of the new design.

It appears to drop the typical LED flash for a more elaborate dual setup that includes small flash units on both sides of the sensor. Also, there seems to be a number of sensors on the front, including two below the display. It’s still unclear what they would be useful for.

The wallpaper in the screen looks like the Motorola’s colourful event invite for the September 5 event in Delhi. It is said it is the same event where we will get to meet the much awaited Moto X+1. Furthermore, the date on the device in the leaked images is given as “Wednesday, September 17”. Maybe it’s a strong hint of the chosen date for when the Moto X+1 would be out for sale.

Motorola to Launch 9 More Devices in Next Four Months

Motorola are already offering quite an impressive line up. And now it seems like Motorola, has big plans for the second half of this year. A new report from PhoneArena, citing an insider source, has revealed that Motorola is planning to launch around 9 devices in next 4 months.

One of top highlight will the new Nexus smartphone along with Moto X+1, Moto G2, Moto X Play, Moto S, Droid Turbo, Droid and Droid Maxx. The reports also added that Moto 360 smartwatch will be one these devices.

The company sent out an invite to the media yesterday, mentioning only that it is going to host an event in New Delhi on September 5. It is widely expected that the company will launch the successors of Moto X and Moto G smartphones as well as Moto 360 smartwatch at the event in New Delhi.

The invite reads, “Mark 05 September on your calendar. Motorola will be holding an event in New Delhi.” Though the invite doesn’t reveal much.

The company has also been rumoured to be working on the next Nexus smartphone, with a device, codenamed Shamu recently showing up on benchmarks. According to speculations, this is the new Nexus smartphone, which comes with a Snapdragon 805 chipset and 3 GB of RAM.

The Moto G2 is expected to come with an improved 8MP rear snapper and faster processor, but the display resolution could remain the same at 1280 x 720 pixels. The improved variant of the Moto X, allegedly the Moto X + 1 is likely to come with 25 back variants during its launch.

It is speculated that the upcoming Moto X could work in sync with the Moto 360. Its circular face measures 1.5-inch LCD display and features 320×290 pixels of resolution. It also comes with a heart rate monitor and a pedometer. The Moto 360 is expected to be priced at $249 that translates to Rs. 15,100.

So get set folks, September is going to be a lot of fun.

LG Announced Two Affordable Smartphones with G3-Like UI

LG has announced two new affordable smartphones – the L Fino and L Bello in its L Series. According to LG, the devices are aimed at the first-time smartphone users in emerging 3G markets.

The South Korean giant also announced that the new L series handsets will be showcased at the IFA 2014 show in Berlin in early September. LG says the new phones will start rolling out in Latin America, followed by Europe, Asia, and CIS markets. At the moment, India-specific pricing and availability is unknown.

Powered by quad-Core processors, the L Fino and L Bello will continue LG’s signature Rear Key button design and come equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera. The L Fino will have a 4.5-inch display while the L Bello will come with a 5-inch display.

LG’s L Bello is more powerful of the two, featuring a 5-inch FWVGA (480×854 pixels) IPS display and a 1.3GHz quad-core processor. It too gets 1GB of RAM and 8GB of inbuilt storage. There’re an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera and a 1-megapixel front shooter. The 2540mAh battery sounds superb given the non-demanding hardware.

LG L Fino comes with a 4.5-inch WVGA (480×800 pixels) IPS display offering a decent 207 PPI pixel density. That puts it behind much of the competition such as the Moto G and Asus Zenfone 5, but it does have a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM. Internally, there’s 4GB of storage, and a microSD card slot is present as well. There’s an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 0.3-megapixel front camera and a 1900mAh battery, which sounds decent given the other specs. Both the Bello and Fino have G3-like buttons on the back and feature a button-less design on the front.

Panasonic Eluga U Unboxing

Launched at the end of last month, Panasonic Eluga U is a slim and stylish smartphone. Its clear that the company has paid a lot of attention to detail to make the Eluga U feel like a premium product. They’ve also managed to make the device look exactly like the Nexus 4.

The back and the front of the device is covered with glass while the sides are made with plastic. The front has a high-quality 5-inch IPS display with three-button capacitive panel at the bottom. The metal-finish logo, also on the front of the device, gives the smartphone a stylish finish. The top has a 3.5mm headphone port, and the bottom has the port for charging and data syncing.

At the side, there is a single flap that opens a dual Sim tray which can hold two 3G micro-SIM cards. On the other side, there are the power and volume controls. The main speaker grille is on the back, which is non-removable.

The Eluga U has the standard Panasonic fit user interface, with bare minimum changes. It uses the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Previous Panasonic users would find this extremely easy to get used to.

The User Interface of the device is decently fast and responsive. Panasonic has added funky animations and movements which are quite playful. There are a lot of stock elements, such as the dialer, messaging and the notification panel and it also comes with the stock browser.

On the hardware front, powering the phone is a 1.2Ghz quad core Snapdragon 400 processor. This is paired with 2GB of RAM. The 2,500 mAh battery seems adequate for this device.

On the imaging side, the device sports a 13MP camera module, placed at the rear-top with a single LED flash next to it and 2MP front facing camera. Priced at Rs. 17,990 we would say it is one of the better products available in this price bracket. It only seems costly if compared to the Xiaomi Mi 3.

All in all, this device is stylish, slim, has a good battery and performs decently. However, we would still like to test the device in detail. The full review will be coming up soon.

Samsung Rolls Out 4.4.2 KitKat Update for Galaxy Note 3 Neo in India

Samsung has reportedly rolled out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Galaxy Note 3 Neo In India. The smartphone was launched with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, back in February. The update includes the usual KitKat uplifts like performance enhancements, cloud-print support, UI improvements, updated Hangouts app, improved downloads app and more. 495 MB in size,the update will also come with Samsung-specific customisations like lock-screen improvements, new launcher settings, improved stability and more.

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is reported to be carrying build number N750XXUCNG6 and rolled-out over-the-air and via Samsung Kies update. Galaxy Note 3 Neo (SM-N750) users can also check for an update by tapping on the Settings> About Phone> Software Update. The update includes a camera option in the lock screen and shows album art while playing music. The status bar strip which contains icons like battery, is now coloured white, while notifications drawer icons have changed as well.

A document leaked last month has reportedly shown the KitKat 4.2 update schedule for 5 Samsung smartphones. The handsets that are more likely to get the update were the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Grand 2 Duos, Galaxy Mega 5.8, Galaxy Mega 6.3, and Galaxy Note 3 Neo. The leaked document had suggested that Samsung has finished testing the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS for these devices.

The Galaxy Note 3 Neo sports a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The device is powered by a hexa-core processor dual-core 1.7GHz Cortex A15 + quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex A7. It is packed with a 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of inbuilt storage that is expandable up to 64 GB. On the imaging front, it is equipped with an 8 MP primary camera with LED flash and BSI sensor, and a 2 MP secondary camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo has preloaded apps like ChatON, WatchON, Screen Mirroring, S Voice, S Health, Group Play, Smart Scroll, Smart Pause, Air View, Story Album and S Translator and more. The S Pen comes with Air Command and Easy Clip feature, and also supports multi-window and S Note.

Xiaomi Mi3 Accessories Up for Pre-Order on Flipkart

While Xiaomi continues its Tuesday sale frenzy, the company seems to be now readying itself to make some more money off its Indian operations. It has put up the first batch of its official Mi accessories for pre-order on Flipkart. Back home in China, it is said that the company earns more from accessories than its phone.

The accessories will be available exclusively on Flipkart (no surprise!), and it is said that delivery of the accessories will start at the end of the month.

There are only four accessories right now available for the pre-order right now. Of these, three are flip cases (in white, black and blue colours) for the Xiaomi Mi3 and one is a screen protector for it. The flip cases are priced at Rs. 559 while the screen protector is available for Rs. 179.

The news comes with a bit of a disappointment as Xiaomi displayed a lot of more accessories at its launch event last month. Which includes powerful Xiaomi Mi Power Bank, Mi headphones and Mi Key as well. However, the company made it clear that Mi key, which lets you take a picture without needing to unlock your device, won’t be available in the Indian market anytime soon.

OnePlus Pushes Android 4.4.4 OTA Update to Global Variants
Just a few hours after our unboxing went live, OnePlus has started pushing Android 4.4.4 to its Global variant One phones. While most issues are okay, the mic fix is the most awaited update and resolves the low audio from the microphone problem.

Smart Cap : A DIY Google Glass Replica Made For Only Rs.4500

We love to get ‘inspired.’ Our Bollywood movies are predominantly ‘inspired’ by previous works by other filmmakers who in-turn get their inspiration from others. But sometimes these inspirations lead to some cool new inventions like a Google Glass replica that costs a meager Rs. 4500 in comparison to the hefty price tag of Google’s Augmented glasses.

Though the Smart Cap looks rudimentary, it is quite functional

Now Cochin-based Arvind Sanjeev has invented the “Smart Cap” which is basically a nerdier version of the sleek Google Glass. Now we, of course, need to cut him some slack as he didn’t have huge monetary resources backing those researchers at Google X.

Arvind’s design though rudimentary is pretty functional. The raw materials that went into making the smart cap are easily available. The Smart cap uses a USB Webcam, an LCD panel, aspheric lens, headphones, a Raspberry Pi Board, a sun board sheet and glue which is a DIY guy’s favorite tool.

Now since creating an operating system would have been a long task, Arvind went with open Android as the OS for Smart cap. The front of the cap has the camera, the Raspberry Pi board, and 2.5 inch LCD display mounted on it. To make the LCD display legible at such close distance, he used an aspheric lens.

The Smart cap works by taking commands using the microphone on the headset. The device can help you with navigation, Google search, YouTube, webcam recording and first person viewing of other cameras, etc.

Smart Cap can be used to access maps, send emails, take photos and more.

What is really appreciable is that he put the entire project in DIY and posted it for anyone to create their own smart cap. He has been doing this for a while and has uploaded several DIY tutorials. He also owns a start-up called A.R.S devices which make devices for automation, connected devices and safety purposes. He has in line for a hardware patent which will let you control your car using a smartphone app. Now that’s an app we’d all love to have.

Even though the Smart Cap is inspired by Google Glass, Arvind’s audacity and patience in creating this device is commendable. The value of DIY has always been to bring replicated expensive technology and attaining similar levels of functionality using cheaper alternatives. The Smart cap stands up to the value, and though it looks rudimentary, it is pretty dope, almost like a prop from a sci-fi movie about robots. So if you have the talent of DIY, then go ahead, get in the game and teach the world how to make some awesome stuff inexpensively.

HTC to Launch Butterfly 2 in India Soon

HTC Butterfly 2, which was launched in Japan as J Butterfly, is going to launch in India and some other Asian countries soon. Taiwan-based smartphone maker has just announced that the high-end plastic phone will go on sale in Taiwan on September 2nd which will be followed by the launch in Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand soon after.

It is available in 3 colour variants – blue, white and red. Anyhow, the company haven’t commented on the pricing details of the device. The single-SIM HTC Butterfly 2 smartphone is the successor to the HTC Butterfly which was launched last year at Rs. 49,990 in India.

The Butterfly 2 sports a 5-inch, full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display. It is powered by a powerful quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC that clocks at 2.5GHz and coupled with 2GB of RAM. In storage front, Butterfly 2 comes with 16GB and 32GB of inbuilt storage options, with expandable storage via microSD card (up to 128GB).

Also, same as the HTC One (M8), it sports a duo-camera setup with 13 megapixel main sensor, f/2.0, 28mm lens and support for 1080p video recording and a 5-megapixel front shooter with BSI sensor, 1080p full HD video recording too.

HTC Butterfly 2 also comes with a IPX5 / IPX7 for dust and water resistance and Infrared LED for remote control. The device features a Dual front-facing stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers which HTC has been using in all its handsets. It is powered by a 2700 mAh battery. HTC has tied up with HARMAN for JBL LiveStage Signal Processing Technology for better audio output. It comes bundled with exclusively designed JBL in-ear headphones in Japan.

Asus Stocks Up 20,000 ZenFone Units on Flipkart

Asus has become a darling of the Indian market since its release in India. It along with Xiaomi made it the summer for Chinese smartphone makers. Their high-spec-low-price business model is tailor-made for the Indian market.

The Asus Zenphone series have seen shortage of supply and they are either out of stock or available in limited numbers. Asus wants to correct that and they are bringing in a 20,000 phone inventory to Flipkart. Though the number of individual phone models haven’t been specified, it is a good big number of devices.

Most importantly today will become a Taiwan on China battle here as Xiaomi too is bringing 20,000 devices for a flash sale today the 19th of August. It will be fun to see if Asus is capable of stealing Xiaomi’s customers. The folks who are disappointed by the Xiaomi sale can see the Asus line-up as a good alternative.

The Customization and Color features of the ZenUI are unique and tasteful

The Asus Zenphones are powered by Intel Atom processors and come in 4, 5 and 6-inch display variants. The phones also come in multiple color variants and have a youth friendly design. The Zenphone 6 has a classy look which will be appreciated by corporate users too.

The Zenphones are dual SIM capable and can be used easily with gloved hands. These phones also run on Asus’s own UI called the ZenUI which has been appreciated for its unique design and customizability features.

Asus’s business model is more appreciable than that of Xiaomi. The company seems like it is interested in staying in the market for a long time. They have also said that it wants to sell its phone in the offline market thereby making there long term plan in India apparent. By bringing in products in accordance with the demand in the market, the company gets to retain as well bring in new customers. The Zenphone 4, 5 and 6 are priced at Rs. 5,999, Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 16,999 respectively.

Sharp Launches Bezel-Less Smartphones

Sharp is not a company which people usually associate with Smartphones. But, Japanese electronics giant recently introduced a pair of amazing smartphones that barely have bezels.

Sharp has managed to stock a 5.5-inch screen into a body that stops right at the edge of that display. Not only that, the innards of the phone are also impressive. The 5.5-inch Sharp’s Aquos Crystal X is at 1080p resolution and there’s a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 ticking away inside its 10mm thick chassis.

The less powerful and slightly smaller Aquos Crystal packs a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 and a 5-inch 720p display. The phone comes with a Harmon Kardon sound effects engine that delivers “Clari-Fi” to restore quality lost in music compression. There’s also “LiveStage” streaming and native compatibility with the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio Bluetooth speaker.

Sharp is said to enter the US smartphone market with these two phones soon. It has been reported that a invite from US Network Sprint that invites guests to “Take the edge off” has been spotted. It’s also decorated with crystals, suggesting the Sharp Aquos Crystal will be launched on 19th August in the US. The Japanese launch of the Sharp Aquos Crystal and Crystal X has already taken place via Sprint’s parent company SoftBank.

Sprint hasn’t officially confirmed it’ll offer the Crystal, the reports strongly suggest that it will happen. Sprint is holding a press conference in New York tonight, and its invitation is rife with crystalline symbolism and a tagline that associated with the Aquos’ bezel-less screen.

However, there is no word on pricing or availability in India right now but we’re hoping it arrives here soon. That or it inspires other phone manufacturers to create an interesting bezel-free design like this.

Xiaomi Brings Out MIUI 6 For Developers

Xiaomi is growing and how, the young Chinese company has earned tremendous brand recognition in a short period. Its Android based UI, the MIUI has been a recognized and well-appreciated interface. Lot many folks are impressed by the regular updates and superior customizability of the UI. The company announced that it will be bringing the next version of the UI, the MIUI 6 for developers, and it will be out for the users very soon.

The company released a teaser video of what the new MIUI would look like and true to Xiaomi’s design approach; the new UI looks rather close to iOS 7. Xiaomi doesn’t make it a secret that they derive some of their “inspiration” from Apple products, and this one seems to fall just in line.

MIUI 6 will follow a minimalistic design pattern with lots of colors. It will also have enhanced security and new features such as immersive parallax effect on apps like clock.

The new update according to Xiaomi will be less distracting, and if the visuals are to be believed, the clean interface has some sweet graphics backing it. The new phonebook allows you to identify unknown callers; mark service numbers (as banks, scams, sales) and see a visible menu of the carrier’s hotline numbers so you can easily choose your option without trying to decipher the IVRS.

MIUI 6 will have new gestures for the home-screen and a redesigned notification shade with toggles for various settings. The notification center shows notifications on the lock-screen and the UI has support for more than 5,000 theme options.

The Flat design is almost reminiscent of sticky pads.

The flat design sure makes some of the apps seems as if they are sticky notes. The translucent features of the UI stand out and give dimension to the content that is also visually appealing.

Overall, the design is clean and easy on the eyes and will definitely impress the seasoned MIUI users as well as new adopters. But it’s time the company took a departure from blatantly copying Apple; even their website follows the Apple design. Now that the company is out of the Chinese borders and made its mark in countries across the globe, it needs an identity for itself. The company is still ahead in terms of product design, both interiors and exterior, than many of its competitors, but “Apple copycats” is not the tag they want when attracting a wide audience.

Micromax Brings Out the Canvas Knight Cameo

Indian smartphone manufacturer Micromax recently released a mini version of their Canvas Knight phone. The phone is to be known as the Canvas Knight Cameo A290. The phone will be scaled down version of its bigger sibling.

The 4.7 inch display on the Knight Cameo has a resolution of 720p. The phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6592M chipset, which sports a 1.4 GHz “true octa-core” CPU. The internal storage on the device is 8 GB which is expandable. The phone has 1 GB of RAM.

The main camera on the device is an 8-megapixel shooter whereas for selfies the front of the devices sports a 5 MP camera. The software comes with the options for object erasing and cinemagraphs. It is capable of full HD recording.

Cameo comes in classy color options

The Knight cameo runs Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and has a 2000 mAh battery. The phone comes in Pure Black, Black and Gold, and White and Gold color options, which gives them a premium feel.

The phone is already available on ebay.in at a price of Rs. 12,350. The phone is decently speced and it can make some good following around it. A bit stronger spec sheet in terms processor and RAM would have made it more attractive but we’re guessing they can take a risk.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha: Samsung’s New Design Philosophy Unveiled

The Galaxy Alpha has been surprisingly prone to leaks, like none other in its range. The phone looks like what an arrange marriage between Apple’s iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S5 might lead to. The phone as expected is made of a metal frame and boasts an Octa-core chipset.

Galaxy Alpha had been hot in leakster circuits ever since it was announced but with its official launch, the leakers now have one less device to worry about. Samsung seems to be learning the lessons that the market has been trying to teach it for quite a while. The company has tried a different design approach for this device. Though it resembles the design of the iPhone, it is still a welcome change from all that plastic Samsung has been throwing at the consumers for the last few years.

The phone had seen a lot many leaks before its official release.

The phone is a lot thinner in comparison to its older siblings. The Alpha is 6.7mm thick and weighs about 115 grams. The display on the phone is a 4.7 inch screen with 1280X720 resolution. The styling does look premium on the device. It is anticipated that Samsung’s new design philosophy would also influence the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 which is expected to be made of new materials.

On the hardware front, the Samsung Galaxy has a few things that won’t impress the technologically minded. The device runs on the latest Android Kitkat 4.4.4 OS. It has an unnamed Octa core processor (Quad 1.8GHz + Quad 1.3GHz), and it is most probably an Exynos 5 based chipset. The RAM on the device is 2 GB and has internal storage of 32 GB. It has no expandable storage though. The Alpha has a dismal 1860 mAh battery which might dissuade a lot of folks from getting the device.

The main camera on the Alpha is a 12 megapixel shooter and is accompanied by a 2.1 MP front camera. It is capable of shooting 4K videos. It will retain the usual Samsung features such as Ultra-Power Saving Mode, S Health, Fingerprint Scanner, and Private Mode, amongst others.

The Galaxy Alpha will be available in September and will be available in black, white, gold, silver and blue colors.

More Details About the Android L Powered Nexus 8 Revealed

Google is rumored to be working with HTC for the Nexus 8 project. The release date of this device is most likely approaching with newly leaked out information suggesting that the powerful Android L tablet was recently certified.

Since last month, numerous reports cited that the new Google Nexus device, which is believed to be HTC Volantis, will be released around October or November time. The release date may help the company to hit the sales periods when more people are going to look for tech gadgets.

The device certification took place in South Korea, according to G4Games, which added on its report that HTC is building the stock Android tablet and it goes by the internal name ‘Volantis’ or ‘Flounder’. Also in the latest information, the device model number 0P8210000 emerged, which G4Games noted first came into tech consciousness back in June and courtesy of well-known gadget leaker @evleaks.

Though, the supposed South Korean certification lacked most the important specifications and other features. Another leaker by the name of @UpLeaks claimed that the Nexus 8 is a beastly rival for Apple’s iPad Air and Mini.

The new Android L tablet is said to slate NVIDIA’s latest 64-bit Tegra processing chip that is paired with 4GB of RAM. This combo will fire up the Nexus 8’s very able 8MP rear cam shooter that will work with a 1.6MP front facing camera. Also, according to PhoneArena, there will be a metal chassis surrounding the 8.9-inch screen that many users are opting for to add more protection to the devices.

Despite there being no confirmation, many reports claim that HTC will unveil the new Google Nexus device this month. It is mainly due to the fact that the Nexus 7 has reduced in price on the Google Play Store.
