Huawei Nova 4 With In-display Camera Launched

Huawei has launched the highly anticipated Nova 4 smartphone in China. It is the successor to the Huawei Nova 3 which was launched earlier. The key highlighting feature of the smartphone is its in-display camera cutout for the front-facing camera. It is the second smartphone after Samsung Galaxy A8s to have this feature.

    Design And Specs

The Huawei Nova 4 has an all-front and rear glass build with a metal chassis. It measures 157 × 75.10 × 7.77 mm weighs in at 172 grams. On the front of the smartphone sits a 6.4-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2310 x 1080 px and a pixel density of 398 ppi. • Five Tech Gadgets We Wish Were Available In India

Five Tech Gadgets We Wish Were Available In India

India is one of the fastest growing markets for technology as the developing nation has a huge population with disposable income and they are not wary of spending on new technology. If we look back, there was a time when we hardly received any new tech. Heck! India skipped out on technology like the Answering Machines and Pagers for the mass market. People who could afford it were few and far between. But the scenario has changed and the tech companies now put immense focus on emerging markets such as India. But there are still a few gadgets and tech innovations that we wish came to India. They may be introduced to the Indian market at a later date but they aren’t available just yet.

    Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop

The budget gaming laptop that everyone wanted Xiaomi to introduce to India still hasn’t arrived on the country’s shores yet. If anything, India is known to be a price sensitive market and this laptop is extremely budget friendly. It comes in different variants for every budget. The laptop is a 15.6-inch device that sports a 7th Generation Intel Core i7 or i5 CPU, a 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD and either an Nvidia GTX 1060 or an Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti. The i7/GTX1060 variant sports a 16GB RAM, while the i5/1050Ti variant is coupled with 8GB of RAM. The 16GB of RAM + GTX 1060 model costs CNY 8,999 (Rs 93695 Approx) while the 8GB of RAM + 1050 Ti model costs just CNY 5,999 (Rs 62459 Approx). This is dirt cheap if we compare it to other gaming laptops of similar specs available in the market.

    Amazon Echo Wall Clock

Amazon has introduced a lot of home products in the Indian market and all the products have done quite well. Even though smart home products are something that not Indians are completely familiar with, the Echo devices have done quite well. Amazon launched a smart wall clock recently that connects to your Echo device.

You can set the timer using your Alexa-powered smart speaker and the lights around the rim of the clock will light up to show you how much time is left. The use of this can be a little narrow for users but it can be useful to some. People who are working in household settings, people who are working under strict deadlines, bachelors who are forgetful and people working in the kitchen can all benefit from it. One can set up the clock in their kitchen or on top of their study table or desk and keep a track of time and set timers to achieve certain goals. The price of the clock is $30, which directly converted translates to around Rs 2157.

    Huawei’s FreeBuds 2 Pro

Wireless earbuds tech is in vogue and we cannot deny the fact that they are here to stay. After Apple launched their Apple AirPods, every other smartphone manufacturers have launched their version. Huawei recently launched the Huawei FreeBuds 2 Pro. But unfortunately there is no news as to when it will be available in India, if at all. This earphone features bone conduction technology, supports wireless charging and has 13nm drivers. The design is eerily similar to the Apple AirPods right down to the  earphone case. One can sue the Huawei Mate 20 Pro to charge the earphones through reverse charging as well. It costs CNY 999 which roughly translates to Rs 10,401.

    Google Pixel Slate

Apple recently launched the all new iPad Pro in India and it is absolutely beautiful to look at. However, Google has not paid too much heed to their tablet division in India with the Pixel Slate still not available in the market. The Pixel Slate has four different variants with Intel Celeron processor and 4/8 GB RAM with 32/64GB RAM variant starting at £549 (Rs 49702 Approx) being the cheapest one. The fully specced out version of the tablet with 8th Generation Intel Core i7 Processor and 16 GB RAM, 256GB storage will set you back £1,549 (Rs 140235 Approx). It might be the case that Google does not see the product fit for the Indian market or may very well introduce this tech wonder to India at a later date but we sure hope that it does hit Indian shores soon.

    Tesla Model 3

The last one on our list is every car enthusiast and environmentalist’s dream. Tesla has been manufacturing battery powered cars for years now but it still hasn’t come to India. Unlike most car manufacturers, who can just set up a business in India and make and manufacture their products, a Tesla requires planning, help from the government and a lot of infrastructure setup throughout the country. The cars, since they run on electricity, need to have charging points spread across the country. In a country where there are places that hasn’t even received electricity even in 2018, Tesla might be a distant dream. Many countries, Norway being the prime example, have different  government schemes.  These schemes provide exemptions and rebates to people buying electric cars. But it seems like there is no such plan, at least in the near future in India.

The Tesla Model 3 is the latest addition to Tesla’s lineup and features a 310 mile range, 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.3 seconds and claims to have the most refined design and engineering among other cars in the category. If we do end up on Tesla’s radar and if the government is indeed trying to bring the pollution down by encouraging customers to buy electric cars, we might find a lot of Tesla buyers in the country.

  • Huawei Nova 4 With Camera Cutout Leaked

Huawei Nova 4 With Camera Cutout Leaked

Huawei has been unclear about the launch of the Nova 4 but it seems that the leaks just won’t stop. The Nova 4 made an appearance recently at the Nova series’ brand ambassador’s party. Chinese singer and member of musical pop group TFBoys, Jackson Yee had thrown a grand birthday party. It was for his eighteenth birthday. The Nova 4 was spotted in his hand in the event when he showed it on stage. The event was incidentally live streamed as well.

    What we know so far

The Nova 4 was rumoured to have an in display camera hole which has become somewhat of a trend for smartphone manufacturers to be leaking. Samsung recently showcased renders of a camera cutout design called the Infinity O.Some devices such as the Vivo NEX and Oppo Find X have gone their own ways to make the screen truly notch free but the camera hole concept also seems to have caught on with manufacturers. The leaked images prove that the Nova 4 indeed will have a camera cutout. It can be seen in the images that the hole is tucked away in the corner of the screen, in line with the battery and network icons on top. The design seems to be far less intrusive compared to a traditional or even a teardrop notch.

As can be seen from the photographs, it seems like the phone has large bezels but on closer inspection, we could see the bezel is actually the back cover of the phone. The back of the phone wasn’t shown on the video so that still remains a surprise. There is very little information regarding the soon to be launched Huawei Nova 4. From what we know so far, according to rumours it is believed to have an LCD display and a Kirin 980 processor. There are no specific launch dates as of now. However it will be launched sometime in December of this year.

  • Possible Huawei Nova 4 With A Camera Cut-Out Spotted

Possible Huawei Nova 4 With A Camera Cut-Out Spotted

The concept was introduced by Samsung a few weeks back when they introduced their Galaxy A6s and Galaxy A9s smartphones. They call it the Infinity-O display, owing to the O shaped camera cut-out in the display of the phone. The Samsung Galaxy A8s was supposed to be the first smartphone with this technology. But yesterday, Huawei announced their own device which will feature the camera cut-out. According to sources, the phone is the Huawei Nova 4 and is set for a December launch, before the Samsung A8s.

    The Nova 4

Most recently, the phone has been spotted out in the wild, in a subway carriage in China. The user is obviously testing the phone and while the big chunky case does hide the device pretty well, it cannot possibly overshadow the unique camera cut-out. The camera cut-out is positioned on the top left corner of the smartphone and really stands out. The notifications and other relevant information are applied to the right.

Another interesting aspect of the image is the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack. This is quite a luxury these days. The fact that Huawei is including this with this phone is a welcome step. The teaser has set the launch of the device for the 12th of December. We will get to know about the features of the device, closer to the launch date.

The camera cut-out is the next step towards a truly bezel-less display. Without the use of a sliding camera or a pop-out camera. It is the notch-less solution for a display. Until some manufacture figures out how to operate in-display cameras. However, the in-display camera could be seen soon in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10, as Samsung has already patented this technology. With all these phones going to be launched, the future of smartphone displays sure looks exciting.

  • Huawei Teases New Phone Believed To Be The Nova 3S

Huawei Teases New Phone Believed To Be The Nova 3S

Chinese phone manufacturing company Huawei, recently teased a new smartphone on a Chinese networking website. It is believed to be the Nova 3S, but the poster reveals very little. The Nova 2S saw it’s release in December last year and a followup of it is due soon. The poster reveals the phone’s outline with a bright light on the top left of the screen. This may indicate a camera cut-out, one that Samsung has also teased recently. Samsung’s design is known as the Infinity O. It has a round shaped camera hole on one side of the screen and features an infinity display.

    Teased Features

The teaser poster also has a line of text written on it. Roughly translated, it reads “Selfie portrait full screen”. The mysterious phone has a bright light from one corner and the date for it’s release has been set for the 12th of December. If the Huawei Nova 3S does have an in display camera, this might be the first smartphone with such a technology. The Samsung Galaxy A8s is reported to be released in January 2019, a month after the Huawei phone’s launch.

The Huawei Nova 2S which released in December last year featured Android 8.0 out of the box with a HiSilicon Kirin 960 (16 nm) chipset and an Octa-Core CPU. It featured a Mali-G71 MP8 GPU and a 16 MP, f/1.8+ 20 MP, f/1.8 dual camera set up. The Nova 3 launched around six months back and sported a notch. This may be missing from this newly teased phone. The Nova 3 sports a 6.3 inch IPS LCD display with a Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset and Octa-Core CPU. We can expect a camera with more megapixels than the 16 MP and 24 MP that previously was featured on the Nova 3.

  • Huawei’s Foldable Phone To Be Showcased At MWC 2019

Huawei’s Foldable Phone To Be Showcased At MWC 2019

The race to bag potential foldable smartphone customers is on. Samsung has already showcased a working prototype of their foldable smartphone/tablet earlier this month. Now sources claim that the Chinese tech titan-Huawei also plans to unveil a foldable phone at the upcoming MWC 2019. The company plans to launch the upcoming device in the existing Mate phablet lineup. Huawei has trademarked four different names for the device which are Mate F, Mate Flexi, Mate Fold, and Mate Flex. However, the exact name is currently not finalised and will only be made official at the time of its launch in February 2019.

    The Mate Flexi

ETNews, a South Korean news agency states that Huawei recently held a private demo of a foldable smartphone for Korean carriers. The company reportedly showcased a functioning foldable device with 5G connectivity capabilities. According to an official from the Korean Media, the upcoming flexible device from Huawei is almost in a finished state. He reported that the flexible device has an 8 inch display in tablet mode and transforms into a 5-inch smartphone when folded.

The screen on Huawei’s foldable phone is slightly larger than the display on Samsung’s Galaxy F foldable phone. For reference, the Samsung Galaxy F has a 7.3-inch diagonal screen in tablet mode and 4.3-inch when in pocket mode. Huawei did pitch the 5G foldable phone to government officials and Telecom operators in Korea but, the company is yet to confirm whether it will go on sale in Asian countries or not. Mainly due to the limited adaption of 5G network in those regions.

The only regions that are currently capable to switch over to the 5G network are the US and Europe. Hence, the Huawei Mate Flexi, if launched, will first go on sale in those regions. As other countries switch over to the faster 5G network, the launch of the device might follow.

  • Huawei Mate 20 Pro To Launch In India On November 27

Huawei Mate 20 Pro To Launch In India On November 27

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro was launched in an event held by the company last month. The event also saw the launch of the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 X. Along with this, the company launched the Huawei Watch GT. Now, after what seems to be a long wait, the devices are finally heading to India. Invites reading “A Higher Intelligence Is Coming” have been sent out. The text is accompanied by an image of the unique triple camera setup on the Mate 20 Pro. The invite details the launch of the device on 27th November.

While it is not clear as to what all products will see their launch at the event, we can be sure that the Mate 20 Pro will be one of them. Being the flagship phone of the company, whose sub-brand Honor is already raking up a lot of sales in India, the Mate 20 Pro will probably see an aggressive campaign in India. Judging by the pricing at the launch, the Indian price will start somewhere around the Rs 85,000 mark.

    Huawei Mate 20 Pro Specs

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a 6.39 inch curved OLED display. It has a 3120 x 1440 px resolution and a 538 ppi pixel density. The display sports a notch and has Corning Gorilla Glass for protection against falls and scratches. The phone is also available along with an underwater case, which can be fitted to use the phone for underwater photography.

The highlight of the phone is the newly introduced Hisilicon Kirin 980 chipset. This is the first Android chipset to be built using the 7 nm process. The only other mobile chipset made from this process is Apple’s A12 Bionic, which powers its latest phones. Qualcomm is also set to launch a 7nm chipset soon. The 7nm process of manufacturing ensures that more transistors can be fitted into a smaller area, ensuring better performance and lower battery consumption. The phone also has Dual NPUs for AI integration in the camera and other apps.

    Camera Performance

The camera is another interesting part of the phone. Huawei has made the camera setup in collaboration with Leica and the results show. The Mate 20 Pro has one of the best camera performance of all the smartphones out there. It has a 40 MP f/1.8 wide lens along with a 20 MP ultra-wide and an 8 MP telephoto lens. These give it a wide range, even in terms of ISO, with values ranging up to 102,400. It also has macro capability, and can shoot objects as close as 2.5cm.

Under the hood, it packs a 4,200 mAh battery with fast charging and wireless charging capabilities. Another great feature on the phone is the ‘Reverse Wireless’ charging. With this, you can use the Mate 20 Pro to charge another wireless charging enables smartphone. The Mate 20 Pro also has an in-display fingerprint sensor and 3D Face Unlock along with an IR flood illuminator.

  • Huawei Files Patent For Smartphone With An In-Display Earpiece

Huawei Files Patent For Smartphone With An In-Display Earpiece

Huawei is a China-based tech giant that also manufactures smartphones. The company is working hard and continuously developing new technologies. They are the world’s first company to make a 7nm Android chipset, the Kirin 980. And recently the company has filed a patent for a smartphone with an earpiece cutout in the display.

    Earpiece Hole Display

The recently filed patent by Huawei illustrates a smartphone with an earpiece cavity in the display. It is an effort to maximise the screen real estate without having to opt for a slider like the one present on Mi Mix 3 and Honor Magic 2. The smartphone in the patent has extremely thin bezels which indicate the device will use swipe gestures to navigate to different menus. The image shows that the power button and volume rockers are present on the right side of the smartphone.

The patent also discloses that the smartphone will have a rear-mounted fingerprint and not an in-display one like the OnePlus 6T. Additionally, the device in the patent has a USB Type-C port at the bottom and a 3.5 mm audio jack at the top. The back of the smartphone has a capsule shape ridge which most probably will house dual cameras and an LED flash.

    Alleged Galaxy A8s Render

To conclude, any smartphone with such a display is currently not available for sale. But, the possibilities of this turning out to be real are pretty high. As companies like Samsung and LG are also testing displays with similar cutouts. Previously Samsung teased concept photos of an upcoming smartphone, the Galaxy A8s. The concept shows a smartphone with a circular cut out in the display for a camera. The company shared three photos with different camera placements in each of them. One has a central cutout, the second has a right side display cutout and the third option with a display cutout on the right side.

  • Kirin 990 SoC To Debut Early Next Year With 5G Modem

Kirin 990 SoC To Debut Early Next Year With 5G Modem

The Kirin 980 was unveiled by Huawei earlier this year. It is the only Android Chipset made using the 7nm manufacturing process in the market right now. The chipset is seen on the flagship devices like the Mate 20 series and the Honor Magic 2. Now, new reports suggest that a successor to the processor is set to launch soon, named the Kirin 990. The Kirin 990 will most probably have the same 7nm manufacturing process as the 980. But will have 5G support as well.

    What’s New

While the manufacturing process remains the same, this does not mean that the 990 can’t be any better than the 980. Sources say that the Kirin 990 will consume upto 10% lesser battery and offer more than 10% improvements in performance. The chipset is reportedly under testing already and the company will make it official in Q1 of 2019. Kirin 980

In terms of 5G connectivity, the chipset might arrive with the Balong 5000 modem. 5G is the next big thing in the smartphone industry with almost all major manufacturers rushing towards it. Xiaomi and OnePlus have already announced their 5G compatible phones which will be out next year. Other manufacturers are also jumping on to the bandwagon with Qualcomm already having developed modems for the same. However, Apple only plans to launch 5G devices in 2020. As they are waiting for the proper infrastructure for the same to be developed soon.

Additionally, other industry sources claim that the testing of the Kirin 990 chipset is already under way. According to them, the cost of testing the chipset is also very high, with each test costing around 200 million Yuan. While the chipset maybe announced soon, it is highly unlikely that it will enter production at the time. The Kirin 980 was recently announced and has made its way to only a handful of phones. Huawei will make sure that the Kirin 980 is present in a good number of devices, before pushing out the Kirin 990.

  • OnePlus 6T Vs Huawei Mate 20 Pro Vs Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 : Specs Comparison

OnePlus 6T Vs Huawei Mate 20 Pro Vs Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 : Specs Comparison

The highly anticipated OnePlus 6T has been launched at an event held by the company in New York. The device brings some upgrades including an in-display fingerprint sensor, a bigger display, a water-drop notch, a bigger battery and more. The OnePlus smartphones have been nicknamed ‘Flagship Killers’ for their unbeatable specifications at a relatively lower price.  So we compare the specifications of the latest OnePlus 6T with some of the hottest flagship devices in the market right now.

    Design & Display

Each of the three devices sports a unique design. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a triple camera setup on the back with a traditional notch on its display. The OnePlus 6T has a dual camera setup on the back with a smaller, water-drop notch on its display. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 on the other hand, is totally different with a dual camera setup and a ‘sliding panel’ which houses the front camera and other sensors, eliminating the need for a notch or bezel.

All the three devices sport a glass back while the OnePlus 6T and Huawei Mate 20 Pro have an in-display fingerprint sensor.

    Processor

The OnePlus 6T and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 run on the Snapdragon 845 SoC which is the flagship processor by Qualcomm. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro runs on the Hisilicon Kirin 980 chipset which is the latest offering by Huawei. The Snapdragon 845 has proven its worth and is adopted by almost all Android flagships. The Kirin 980 on the other hand is fairly new, so a comparison between the two is not possible at this time. However, it is noteworthy that the Kirin 980 is manufactured using the latest 7 nm process while the Snapdragon 845 uses the 10 nm manufacturing process.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 offers RAM options upto 10 GB when compared to the maximum of 8 GB offered by the other two devices. All the three devices boast superior gaming capabilities as well and are supported by capable GPUs.

    Camera & Battery

The Mi Mix 3 and OnePlus 6T have dual rear cameras while the Mate 20 Pro has a Leica triple camera setup. This consists of an ultra wide, wide and a telephoto lens. The OnePlus 6T has a 16 MP front camera while the Mate 20 Pro has a 20 MP front facing camera. The Mi Mix 3 has a 24 MP + 2 MP front camera setup in its sliding panel.

The Mate 20 Pro has a 4,200 mAh battery, which is the biggest out of the three. The OnePlus 6T has a 3,700 mAh battery and the Mi Mix 3 has a 3,200 mAh battery. The Mate 20 Pro also supports fast charging, fast wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. With this, you can charge another device with wireless charging capability using your Mate 20 Pro. Huawei Announces AI Enabled Smart Speaker

Earlier this month, Huawei released their Mate 20 series smartphones in London. And now, the company has launched the Mate 20 trio in the Chinese market. Along with the Mate 20 smartphones, the company also launched a smart AI speaker which draws a lot of inspiration Apple’s HomePod.

With the advancements in AI (Aritficial Intelligence) and Virtual Assistant technology , the smart speaker market is getting very hot. Top tech companies are working hard to grab their shares in this new industry. Companies like Google, Amazon & Apple already offer smart speakers and recently the Chinese tech titan Huawei, has jumped on the bandwagon with a budget AI speaker.

    Huawei’s Fatboy AI Speaker

While the overall design is pretty similar to that of the Apple HomePod, the LED ring on the top and the four control buttons remind us of another smart speaker. The AI speaker from Huawei looks like a chubby sibling of the Alexa powered Amazon Echo Plus. The speaker has a cylindrical design with control buttons on the top. It has 6 michrophone pinholes on top and a circular ring light around the controls. The Huawei AI speaker has 4 top mounted buttons to control all its functionalities. It includes volume up & down button, mic mute button and a call receive button. The AI speaker can be connected to a smartphone and directly receive calls.

The Huawei AI speaker uses a 2.25 inch sound driver that has a power output of 10 W along with two passive bass radiators. The company claims these help in creating a more natural sound effect and powerful bass performance. For acoustic systems and design co-creation, Huawei partnered with Dynaudio which is a Danish loudspeaker maker. The smart speaker uses Huawei’s “Histen” algorithm which is a music equaliser and sound effect controlling software available on their smartphones.

The brains of the smart speaker are powered by Huawei’s “Xiaoyi” voice assistant which enables it to interact with HiLink supporting smart devices like lights, air purifiers, security cameras and more.
