  • Windows 10 Will Lose These features With the October 2018 Update

Windows 10 Will Lose These features With the October 2018 Update

With over 700 million devices running on Windows 10, Microsoft is constantly working on updating the operating system. The upcoming October update of Windows 10 will see a lot of features being discontinued but most of them are actually being incorporated into other features. Many elements which are not being actively developed as of now, will not be updated and will probably be removed by the update after this one.

    What you will lose:

The most important feature in this list is the snipping tool. The sniping tool is used by many people to  capture screenshots and specific portions of the screen. The feature in itself is not being removed, its just being moved. It is being incorporated into Microsoft’s new Snip & Sketch app. The Snip & Sketch app will let you use the exact same features as the snipping tool. It will have an additional feature to delay the snip from being taken.

The Hologram App is one that has also been added to the list. This is because it is being replaced by the Mixed Reality Viewer. With this, you can still view 3D art in virtual reality. The same can also be edited in the Paint 3D application.

The Phone Companion App will also be discontinued. This does not mean that you will lose the functionality associated with this. The features of this app will be incorporated into the Phone page under settings. To see a list of everything that has been changed, you can visit this website.

Microsoft will also be dropping the OneSync service. This syncs data across the Calendar, Mail and People apps. However, Microsoft has introduced a sync engine to the Outlook application which will carry out the same task. The new update is called Windows 10 version 1809 and will arrive in October. The rollout will be spread over a period of several months however and it will take some time for all the features to arrive to your system.

  • Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 Images Leak Prior To Launch

Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 Images Leak Prior To Launch

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 has been revealed. In images obtained by a website, we can see various shots of the laptop, externally. The launch will take place in New York City on 2nd October and will see the company unveil a range of updated Surface devices. This will include a new Surface laptop, Surface Pro and Surface Studio.

From the first look at the images we can see that the Surface Laptop 2 has the same design and selection of ports. The changes we can expect are obviously on the inside. However, on external change which is visible is the availability of the device in a new black colour.

This will be replacing the Graphite Gold model available last year. The Surface Laptop was launched last year in Burgundy, Cobalt Blue, Graphite Gold and Platinum colours. It looks like the laptop will feature the same 13.5 inch PixelSense display. It will be built from aluminium and an Alcantara fabric wrapped keyboard, like before.

    Expected Specifications:

Microsoft is most likely to power the latest Surface laptop with the 8th Generation Intel Core series processor, SSD storage and LPDDR4 RAM which offers faster memory speeds and lower power consumption. The device could sport a 13.5 inch PixelSense touchscreen display. This will have a resolution of 2256 x 1504 pixel, not setting it apart from last years display. Apart from its 3:2 aspect ratio, it will also have Surface Pen compatibility.

From the images we can say that the laptop will have a USB 3.0 port, a Mini DisplayPort, a Surface Connect port and  a 3.5 mm headphone jack. It will  be compatible with Surface Dial as well, according to reports.

At the launch event, Microsoft will reportedly upgrade a few more products. The Surface Studio PC and Surface Book series might be refreshed. Rumours regarding an updated Surface Hub have also been around, making for an exciting lineup at the upcoming event.

  • Microsoft Surface Phone Code-Named Andromeda Leaked

Microsoft Surface Phone Code-Named Andromeda Leaked

Microsoft while a primary software and OS developer, has in the past forayed into hardware. And while the company has played with many smartphone ideas, no real “Microsoft Made” hardware for a smartphone has yet been launched. However, according to some internal email leaks from Microsoft, the company may be working on a Microsoft Surface Phone allegedly code-named Andromeda, aimed at being “pocketable”. Microsoft released its Surface line of devices to allow the users to have both portable and stationary workstations. While the Surface Pro and the Surface RT caters to the users who demand a portable workstation, the Surface Studio works more or less like iMac.

    Surface Phone aka Andromeda

The Microsoft Surface Phone is code-named “Andromeda” which allegedly will be running on a new Operating System for the device with the same name. Microsoft has reportedly been working on a project under the code name of Andromeda for the past two years.

The concept designs by a Twitter user David Breyer suggest that the device may be a dual-screen smartphone.

As suggested by the leak, the device which Microsoft is allegedly working on, will not be a tablet, laptop, or a PC. This means that the only viable option left is a smartphone.

For the Microsoft, the Surface Phone could be a smart move as many manufacturers have already started producing foldable smartphones. The ZTE Axon M was released last year and is among the latest foldable smartphones featuring dual 5.2 inch 1080p LCD panel. These dual screens combine to form a 6.75 inch single screen display.

The leaked email intercepted by The Verge says,

“It’s a new pocketable Surface device form factor that brings together innovative new hardware and software experiences to create a truly personal and versatile computing experience”

This email provides a little insight on what Microsoft has in mind with the Surface Phone aka Andromeda. The phone may feature an entirely new software experience and a set of hardware which Microsoft is claiming to be innovative.

Microsoft had previously been working on a portable Surface device which was allegedly canceled almost a week before its release date. So we cannot say for sure when and if the Surface Phone or the Andromeda will be released but stay tuned on iGyaan as we will keep looking further into this story and keep you posted with the latest updates.

  • Windows 10 Spring Update Will Get A New ‘Timeline’ Feature

Windows 10 Spring Update Will Get A New ‘Timeline’ Feature

Microsoft is in the final stage of launching the next big software update for Windows 10 called ‘Spring Creators Update’. The company is yet to announce the launch date of the update. However, according to a source, the update will go live on the 10th of April. In fact, this date collides with Windows 10 Creators Edition launch date. There are a lot of changes and new features included in the upcoming major software update from Microsoft.

The update will be first tested with a set of users in the initial wave. Later on, the update will be made available for the rest of the users. In fact, the update might take months to land on your device. If you are an eligible Windows Insider, then you will be able to test the RTM (Release To Manufacturing) build before April.

    New features

The spring update will have plenty of new features. The update will improve the user experience on Microsoft Edge browser, new action centre, and a task view feature. Similarly, there are minor UI refinements, which improves the overall user experience. The most interesting feature of this update is the new Timeline feature.

The task view will be renamed as Timeline, which allows a user to go back up to 30 days to edit a document or pick up a task. These apps/tasks will be listed according to time. However, every app will not support this feature. Most of the Microsoft applications like Word, Edge, Powerpoint will support this feature from the beginning.

Microsoft launched the Xbox One X in India in on January 23rd. At the time of the launch, it was priced at Rs. 44,990. However, it has recently received a price hike. Due to an increase in the customs duty from 10% to 20%, the console will retail now at Rs. 48,490. However, still, a few online retailers have listed the device at an older price tag, which is expected to remain the same until the arrival of the new shipments. Hence, prospective buyers have enough time to buy it before the hike kicks in.

Not only the Xbox One X, even the Sony PS4 Pro now retails at an increased price of Rs. 41,990 instead of Rs. 38,990.

Xbox One S and One X

According to Kevin Gammill, the Xbox program manager, both the Xbox One and Xbox One S will receive an update to support native 1440p content streaming. There is no mention of the actual time frame, with the next software update the feature could be rolled out.

Xbox One X and Xbox One S are the most powerful gaming consoles from Microsoft to date. However, both models downscale the content from 1440p to 1080p, which makes us to play the games at a lower resolution.

    Specifications:

  • Xbox One X Launched In India At A Price Of Rs. 44990

Xbox One X Launched In India At A Price Of Rs. 44990

Microsoft has launched the Xbox One X in India a few months after its global launch. The new gaming console will be available at a price of Rs. 44990 and will go on sale via Flipkart and Amazon. The Xbox One X will also be available to buy from select offline retail stores like Landmark and Croma.

Each Xbox One X will ship with a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial along with a month of Xbox Game Pass subscription trial. Talking at the launch, Priyadarshi Mohapatra, country general manager, Consumer & Devices Sales, Microsoft India said:

We are delighted to offer gamers the world’s most powerful console with access to the largest and most diverse games lineup in Xbox history, including Forza Motorsport 7, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Cuphead and Super Lucky’s Tale, out of more than 1,300 titles and more than 220 exclusives available on the Xbox One X, just a few short months after the device’s global launch.

    [amazon_link asins=’B075R6NQYL’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’igyaan-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’f5903da2-0029-11e8-be98-3daed61206df’]

The Xbox One X is a mid-cycle Xbox refresh from Microsoft but, has enough horsepower under the hood to grant it the label of being the most powerful gaming console in the world. Since the new console runs on the Scorpio engine, it is backwards compatible to run all 900px and 1080px Xbox one and 360 titles at upscaled 4K. Which means all existing Xbox One titles should look better on the Xbox One X due to enhanced visual fidelity, anisotropic filtering, and faster loading times. The new console will also work with all current Xbox One accessories, Microsoft has confirmed.

Xbox vs PS is the gaming version of iOS vs Android and this debate will not fizzle out anytime soon. The Xbox One X has whopping 6 teraflops of graphical power while the PS4 Pro ships with 4.2 teraflops of graphical power. The Xbox One X also has a built-in UHD Blu-ray drive and although PS4 Pro supports 4K, it does not include a UHD Blu-ray drive. It is worth noting that the PS4 Pro is priced at Rs. 38990.

  • The Samsung Galaxy X Might Have Some Competition

The Samsung Galaxy X Might Have Some Competition

AI and foldable phones are touted to be the new rage in the smartphone industry. The Samsung Galaxy X has long been rumoured to be the first consumer-friendly foldable smartphone. But, if a new report is to be believed, the Galaxy X might have some competition from an unlikely source. Microsoft might be working on a foldable Surface phone that will compete directly against the iPhone, the Pixel, and the Galaxy S series.

This news is surprising since Microsoft recently shut its mobile business. However, a blog has kept a track of Microsoft’s activity and recently came across a few patents which might suggest that the mythical Surface phone might be real after all. As seen in the image below, the design of the foldable phone looks awfully similar to a Samsung patent recently unearthed and the ZTE Axon M.

However, there is another patent to go with it which looks far more convincing and futuristic. The image below describes how a foldable Surface phone should function.

Now, here’s what that patent design would look like after a screen on it:

In addition to these images, the same source claims that the Surface Phone will be Microsoft’s revival of the Courier foldable tablet. The device will run an “Andromeda” OS or a custom version of Windows 10. It’ll also be stylus-friendly and may be built on top of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 platform. As for the overall size, each screen will apparently be slightly larger than 6 inches.

  • Windows 10 Mobile Is Done And Dusted

Windows 10 Mobile Is Done And Dusted

Windows OS powered mobile phones have seen a decline in market share since the resurgence of iOS and Android. The Windows OS run mobile phones came into being way before Apple and Google unveiled their operating systems. Having been active in the smartphone industry even after seeing a considerable decline, Microsoft has finally seen the writing on the wall, that there aren’t enough people using Windows 10 Mobile or enough apps to make it viable.

Corporate vice president of Windows 10 and head of Microsoft’s “PC-Tablet-Phone” division, Joe Belfiore, said took to Twitter Sunday to announce that Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 Mobile with bug fixes and security updates, but new features and hardware are no longer a priority for the company.

According to the most recent sales figures from Kantar Worldpanel, Windows phones account for just 1.3 percent of the market in the US, while BlackBerry is at 0.3 percent. Compare that with Android’s 64 percent share of new phone sales and 34 percent for iOS, and you can see why Microsoft has taken this step.

Microsoft tried to leverage its legacy and dominance in the PC space by billing the Windows 10 smartphones to have the “everywhere OS” that would let users shift seamlessly between desktop, tablet and mobile. But, lack of apps and the increasing dominance of Android and Apple in the smartphone space didn’t let the Windows 10 platform flourish.

Joe Belfiore continued to say on twitter that Microsoft has tried “very hard” to provide incentives for app developers to get apps onto Windows Mobile but, the “volume of users is too low for most companies to invest” in the ecosystem.

  • Microsoft Will Build Quantum Computing Systems

Microsoft Will Build Quantum Computing Systems

During the 2017 Microsoft Ignite, CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadela announced that the IT giant is pushing  to build a quantum computing ecosystem, a new “revolutionary technology” which would allow scientists to do computations in a fraction of time.

Satya Nadela, during his keynote address said:

A quantum computer enables you to encode information, not just as one or zero but as one and zero simultaneously. That means it unlocks amazing parallelism. You could take a quantum computer and solve some of these unsolvable problems because they approach it with that amazing parallelism where they’ll take every path in the corn maze simultaneously. That’s the intuition behind the power of quantum.

But, building a quantum computer takes more than just intuition, he admitted. Talking about what all it took to turn this idea into reality, he said:

We have had to assemble a world-class team. In fact, we’ve had to take a very novel approach of bringing together breakthroughs in math, fundamental physics, and computer science together, and put a system or get started on a journey to put a system that’s going to be a truly scalable general purpose quantum computer.

Micheael Freedman, a renowned math genius joined the Microsoft’s theoretical research team about twenty years ago. He was known for his fundamental research in a field of math called topology. Freedman said that Microsoft’s qubit will be based on a new form of matter called topological matter that also has this property that as the information stored in the matter is stored globally, one can’t find the information in any particular place.

During the Microsoft Ignite, the American tech giant showcased the progress it has made toward the development of the topological qubit. Along with that that, it also showed the progress in the development of hardware and software that will later on allow a lot of developers to take advantage of quantum computing’s power. Talking about the computing system, Freedman said:

What Microsoft has done that’s really unique in its approach to quantum computing, which is to first of all recognise that each one of these steps is actually very hard. In fact, it may seem like making the chip with the Majoranas is the hard part, or thinking of the idea is the hard part. But actually they’re all hard. And everything from the software that we’ll hear about in a second to the cryogenic engineering is extremely difficult.

Indeed, what seems like a gigantic step in the right direction seems extremely difficult and is a result of years of research and development. More insight into the new computing system came from computer scientist Krysta Svore who said that Microsoft is building a comprehensive full stack solution so that they can actually run applications on this new revolutionary device. This device is unlike any classical computer that Microsoft has today. It has to operate at 4 kelvin which is around minus 452 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Microsoft Xbox One S In Association With Chainsmokers Lights Up

Microsoft Xbox One S In Association With Chainsmokers Lights Up

Microsoft and DJ duo, The Chainsmokers have teamed up for a custom Xbox One S edition that lights up when you play. Microsoft has addressed that this is a part of a larger initiative where the company will team up with more celebrities and brands for custom XBon One S editions. The custom console uses a small, USB-powered processor that converts sound into a changing light show. There are 60 pixels that light and creates what Microsoft says is a 3D effect.

    https://twitter.com/TheChainsmokers/status/906141420045643776

Chainsmokers released a statement in support of the new console expressing their excitement at the opportunity to collaborate with Microsoft.

We were really pumped to work with Xbox on this project and help bring our music to life in a new way, by combining it with the best gaming console in the world. We knew the team would do something amazing, but when we saw the custom Xbox One S for the first time, we were both blown away by how cool the design is.

Aaron Greenberg, GM of Games Marketing at Xbox, stated that throughout the years, he has seen a lot of unique consoles, but nothing quite like this. Greenberg added that the Chainsmokers Xbox One S console “is a true piece of art.”

Microsoft has decided to give away the console. You can try your luck by following The Chainsmokers on Twitter and replying to them with a message about why you like the design of the console. The details about the giveaway contest can be found here.

Getting your hands on one of these custom XBox One S consoles seems is a bit of a stretch, but, the XBox One X will launch in November, which Microsoft claims is the most powerful console it has ever made. The XBox One X will be priced at USD 500 (Rs. 32,000), which is much more than the USD 250 (Rs. 16,000 approx.) price of the XBox One S.

  • Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition Launched

Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition Launched

Microsoft has launched its new gaming console, the Xbox One X in June 2017 at the Entertainment Expo. The Xbox One X, Microsoft’s much awaited Project Scorpio is touted to be the world’s first true 4K gaming console. The console will be available to buy in the US from November 7 for $499 (Rs 32,000). At the same time, the company announced a limited period Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition for consumers who’d prefer a more cosmetically enhanced version of the Xbox One Day One Edition.

The limited edition console, as mentioned earlier, features a slightly more gradient design, and the Project Scorpio code name etched on both the console as well on the controller. Microsoft confirmed that all initial Xbox One X units up for grabs will be a Project Scorpio Edition, and will sell for the same price as the Xbox One Day One Edition.

The Xbox One X is a mid-cycle Xbox refresh from Microsoft but, has enough horsepower under the hood to grant it the label of being the most powerful gaming console in the world when it arrives in November.

Since the new console runs on the Scorpio engine, it is backward compatible to run all 900px and 1080px Xbox one and 360 titles at upscaled 4K. Which means all existing Xbox One titles should look better on the Xbox One X due to enhanced visual fidelity, anisotropic filtering, and faster loading times. The new console will also work with all current Xbox One accessories, Microsoft has confirmed.

4K will largely be the buzzword, all Scorpio-exclusive games will super sample down to 1080p and all Scorpio-exclusive game modes will be available for all users regardless of their display. Technically, players will not require a 4K-ready monitor to use the Xbox One X. The console will use supersampling to improve visuals on 1080p screens while offering true 4K UHD playback on 4K screens.

  • Microsoft Windows 10 Preview Released with Built-In Eye Tracking

Microsoft Windows 10 Preview Released with Built-In Eye Tracking

Microsoft announced its Windows 10 tester edition on 2 August 2017. The new Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16257 includes support for a beta version of Eye Control aka built-in eye tracking feature and improvements to Edge, Console, input, and Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG). This is the ninth build of the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, which is slated to arrive in September.

The Windows 10 Insider Preview was introduced as a service, setting it aside from its predecessors in terms of built. This could mean that the regular updates would include a little more than just bug fixes, maybe new features. But first here’s a look at the newly added and updated features.

    Eye Control

The major addition to the Windows 10 preview is the Eye Control technology which would make the Windows 10 much more accessible to people with disabilities. The eye tracking feature will make it easier for people to operate an on-screen mouse or keyboard and convert text-to-speech. The Eye Control feature requires a compatible eye tracker – Tobii Eye Tracker 4C, to access the windows OS.  The Tobii Eye Tracker 4C enables a user to carry out tasks which were previously accomplished via a physical mouse or a keyboard with just their eyes.

In the preview blog post, Microsoft mentioned that it will be supporting only the US English language keyboard layout but plans on adding more layouts sometime in future.

    Microsoft Edge

Apart from the eye tracking feature, Microsoft Edge was also updated for a more modern look in the browser frame and other fixes for copying images, closing tabs in full screen mode and tab ordering. According to the company, ” The use of Acrylic material provides depth and transparency to the tab bar and other controls” and button animations are “more responsive”.

Microsoft also made changes to the address bar. So now, when you click and drag the text it will remain under the cursor, even if the address bar isn’t in focus. Whereas , previously the text would shift as the “http://” appeared, making it difficult to edit the URL.

    WDAG and Input Upgrades

As for input improvements, the touch keyboard now launches faster from the taskbar and the bugs in dictation and Japanese keyboards have been fixed. WDAG has also received performance upgrades, specific to container launch times. The tool has also received new status strings for providing more detailed information when starting up, plus networking and launching bug fixes.

Aside to the general improvement and fixes, Microsoft introduced another feature included in Eye Control called “shape writing,” . This feature allows a user to speed up typing by just looking at the first and last letters of a word and “simply glancing at letters in between.” And to make things easier, a “hint of the word predicted will appear on the last key of the word,” but if the prediction is incorrect, it can be swapped with another predicted alternative.

    Shape Writing

It’s still unclear when the built-in eye tracking will roll out as a fully baked feature. But, it may not be long before we see a fully functioning version of the new Windows 10.

  • People, MS Paint Is Officially Dead

People, MS Paint Is Officially Dead

The good ol’ MS Paint, the tool that inspired the lot of us to become artistes is getting ‘deprecated’, according to Microsoft. In a recent announcement by Windows, it listed out the features and software that will be in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. The iconic MS Paint was first introduced by Microsoft back in 1985 ie 32 years ago! MS Paint will be missed, not for its functionality but for just being, well Paint. It’s like that old t-shirt which doesn’t fit you anymore but you can’t give it away either because it was cool a several year ago. MS Paint getting the axe doesn’t come as much of a surprise though, as Microsoft is now pushing Paint 3D as the next big thing in their repertoire.

As per the announcement, don’t expect MS Paint to vanish off the face of the earth just yet, as it states that MS Paint will ‘deprecated’ rather than ‘removed effective immediately.’ What this essentially means is that the software is not in active development and can be removed in the future updates. MS Paint will be available through the App Store with its functionality integrated with paint 3D. If you’re wondering what this Paint 3D is, then here’s a small introduction: It is nothing like our ‘masterpiece creator MS Paint.’As the name suggests, it is designed to make in 3D. Paint 3D will let users turn parts of photos, artwork into full-fledged 3D objects. It was announced back in April 2017 with the Creator’s Update. It also lets users work on a 2D image and convert it into 3D artwork.

MS Paint is here to stay, it will just have a new home soon, in the Windows Store where it will be available for free.

The final word on when MS paint will be removed in its entirety is not out there, yet. The Windows 10 Creators’ Autumn update will start rolling out soon, although a definitive date has not been announced, expect the gradual removal MS Paint as soon as the update starts rolling.

Till then enjoy this MSPaint creation :
