OnePlus has built a reputation for itself as a company that manufactures “flagship killer smartphones”. When the OnePlus 6T was launched in 2018, it received rave reviews worldwide owing to its inclusion of top-of-the-line specifications at a more affordable price point than its competitors. The device featured a host of interesting features, such as Dash Charging and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The OnePlus 7 has been floating around in rumours and leaks for quite some time now, and the fans would be ecstatic in light of any official news from the company. Leaks have already revealed a multitude of specifications and features of the upcoming smartphone. The OnePlus 7 lineup is expected to feature the powerful 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset, which comprises of the octa-core Kryo 485 CPU clocked at 2.84 GHz, combined with the Adreno 640 GPU. In terms of memory, the smartphones may have 12GB of RAM and 512GB ROM for the top variants.

Talking about the optics, the OnePlus “flagship killers” are speculated to feature triple camera setups on the back, with a single front camera which may be housed in the pop-up mechanism of the smartphones. This may lead to a notch-free display on the devices, improving the aesthetics of the same. Under the hood, the OnePlus 7 may be powered by a 4,000 mAh battery with support for 44W fast charging. Also, the Pro version of the smartphone may have a bigger battery pack because of the rumoured 5G connectivity support in the same. Both the devices are expected to run on the latest Oxygen OS 9 on top of the current Android 9 Pie.

As mentioned previously in the article, the new OnePlus smartphones will probably be announced officially on April 17. Both the smartphones will be placed at a higher price point than its predecessors. Recent leaks suggest that the smartphone will be priced US$ 569 (roughly INR 40,000) onwards. More information regarding the same is expected to be available in the not-so-distant future.

Moreover, the company states that the owners can easily drive the car using gesture controls on the smartphone-cum-steering-wheel. Apparently, swiping left and right on the OnePlus device will enable the car to turn to the respective directions, and swiping up and down will lead to the forward and reverse movement of the car respectively. In another hilarious statement, OnePlus promises the users that in the first OTA (over the air) update, users will get an airplane mode, which won’t necessarily help the car to fly (although OnePlus could have pulled it off too), but will disable all notifications so that a person doesn’t accidentally swipe the wrong way and crashes the car.

As per the leaks, the OnePlus 7 features a bezel-less 6.5 inch display, which can be an Optic AMOLED panel similar to the one in OnePlus 6T. The screen tapers towards the edges, with no visible notch or ‘punch hole’. As mentioned before, a motorized selfie camera pops up from an enclosure on top of the smartphone. The specifications of the selfie shooter, however, are not available as of now.
The leaked renders also show a triple rear camera setup. The three sensors are aligned vertically, with the LED flash placed just below the cameras. The predecessor of the OnePlus 7 had a dual camera module, which was housed in a 16 MP+20 MP configuration. It is possible that the third camera sensor being introduced in the OnePlus 7 is a ToF (Time of flight) sensor, which is seen on smartphones from both Oppo and Vivo.
The left edge of the smartphone has the volume rockers, whereas the right side accommodates the power button and the alert slider. No rear fingerprint sensor was spotted in the leaks, so this may hint towards the fact that the OnePlus 7 may support a similar in display fingerprint scanner to the OnePlus 6T. Furthermore, no 3.5 mm headphone jack is spotted in the images, but there is nothing surprising about that since the previous iteration lacked the same. A standard USB Type C port is present on the device, right next to the speaker and the microphone.
