  • Our Best Look at the HTC One A9 Yet

Our Best Look at the HTC One A9 Yet

The rumored HTC event scheduled to take place on the 20th of October will see the launch of the HTC One ‘Aero’, also known as HTC One A9 smartphone. Leaked images from a couple of weeks ago suggested that the A9 will be an iPhone 6 doppelganger and is expected to come in six colours, one of which is quite similar to the iPhone 6s Rose Gold.

    HTC One A9 (1)

New leaked images of a dummy HTC One A9 handset tweeted by @OnLeaks confirm that the phone will definetely be an iPhone 6 rip-off. There are some obvious aspects to the design of the A9 that reminds one of the iPhone 6. The curved edges, the raised camera hump at the back, the plastic strips at the top and bottom, the speaker grill and 3.5mm audio jack are all reminiscent of the iPhone 6. Though, one difference is that the camera hump is centered in the A9 whereas the iPhone 6 has it in the top left corner.

    HTC One A9 (2)

It also seems like HTC is ditching the front-facing speaker and is going for a sleeker look. The home button will also feature a fingerprint sensor. Again, apart from the oval shaped home button for the A9, the rest of the front design looks very much like the iPhone 6. Moreover, The HTC One A9 is said to be 7mm thick, which is around the same as the iPhone 6 (6.9 mm).

    HTC One A9 (3)

As for the specs of the A9, the smartphone will sport a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 resolution and 441ppi, Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor and Adreno 405 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage. On the camera front the A9  will feature a 13MP rear camera with OIS and a 4MP Ultrapixel front. The HTC One A9 will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

We’ll give you the full monty on the A9 once the phone is officially out. We’ll also know just how much the phone is ‘inspired’ by the iPhone 6 once we get a better look at it.

A Cheaper OnePlus Smartphone Expected To Be Announced Today

If rumours are to be believed, OnePlus may announce a OnePlus X smartphone in the country very soon. After OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 smartphones, the company might be gearing to introduce a device more affordable than its previous phones.OnePlus 2 0

The Chinese company is hosting an event in Bangalore today and Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus will be present there. According to official reports, the event will be a corporate one but speculations about what else the company can announce tomorrow are endless. Keeping in mind the recent ‘Make in India’ announcements from brands like Xiaomi and Lenovo, OnePlus is also expected to follow their league.

Adding to these speculations and rumours are the company’s social updates -one of them include the OnePlus India Twitter handle which put up a picture of the X with the words,“Time to look at things a little differently.” This had led many to believe about an imminent launch of a OnePlus X smartphone. Also, Lau himself posted on his official Weibo account about a fitness app saying, “Dissatisfied run a X.”

Along with the event in Bangalore, OnePlus 2 also goes on open sale today. It will be available for sale without invites for an hour between 12-1 PM. For more details of OnePlus 2, click here.

  • Apple iPhone 6s Plus Unboxing and Hands On

Apple iPhone 6s Plus Unboxing and Hands On

Apple’s latest iPhone is all set to launch in India on the 16th of October. Pre orders have begun on major e-commerce websites, most of which promise to deliver the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus 2-4 days from launch. There is also a traditional launch which will happen in major cities, where people will cue up to buy the phone on the day of the launch.

Apple has not made major design changes, as a matter of fact the only design change is the fact that the new iPhone 6s is heavier and thicker than the iPhone 6 and so is the case of the iPhone 6s Plus when compared to predecessor iPhone 6 Plus.

    iphone 6s plus 8

The iPhone 6 plus with its added weight feels much better and sturdier to hold in the hands. The reinforced aluminium frame takes a lot more pressure and there is no more “Bendgate“.

    iphone 6s plus 2

The new 3D touch is something that could become a big deal when more apps start to leverage the tech. As you will see in the video, it takes a while to get used to it, but is a lot of fun to use.

The cameras are a big welcome change. The front camera gets 5 MP which means front portraits aka. SELFIES, are now much improved. However the front camera only shoots 720p video. Boo Apple!

    iphone 6s plus 3

The rear camera however, is now a 12 MP shooter with 4k Video capability, which was much needed. New Live photos and optical image stabalization. All of which will require a lot of space on your iPhone. Pro Tip : if you use the camera a lot, avoid the 16 GB variant of the iPhone 6s / 6s Plus.

  • Samsung’s ClearForce Set To Take On Apple’s 3D Touch

Samsung’s ClearForce Set To Take On Apple’s 3D Touch

The tussle between Samsung and Apple over similar features in their respective devices has persisted for a while now. Both companies have a long history of legal feuds – an example of which can be the 2013 jury verdict which had required Samsung to pay $900 to Apple for infringements of patents. However Samsung still continues to sell the products which used the technology in question and had led to legal trouble in the first place.Samsung Apple Legal Trouble

Earlier this year in April, the two tech-giants were part of another courtroom drama where Apple was suing Samsung for what it claimed was the copying of the former’s patented features by the latter. Samsung, on the other hand, was counter-suing Apple for having copied its features for iPads and iPhones.

Samsung has incorporated iPhone-inspired features in the past. An example of this is the manual adjustment of exposure at the point of focus in an iPhone camera. Even though this feature is available on pretty much all Android devices, none made it as convenient as Apple. When Samsung came out with its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge this year, their cameras had the same exposure control feature as the iPhone.samsung-apple

Samsung’s phone unlocking system, which was a shoddier version of iPhone’s slide-to-unlock-feature, is another example of the tech giant coming out with similar tech as its counterpart.

Apple too has picked up features from the Korean company in the past -attempting to make a slimmer variant of iPhones, and opting for an Ion-strengthened glass are two examples.Samsung Galaxy Note 5 28

Staying true to their history of mutual inspiration, Samsung and Apple might be headed towards another common element -ClearForce, very similar to 3D Force, the highlight of the newest iPhones -iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

Apple’s launched it’s iPhones last month to a huge hoopla in the tech world. One of the most talked about characteristics of the new iPhones is 3D Touch which employs a touch-sensitive technology, enabling the device to differentiate between three distinct types of touch.iPhone 6s 2

Synaptics announced this week that it has also been working on a similar technology called ClearForce. The company plans to work with leading OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) to test the technology, and Samsung is expected to employ it in its future phones, post its history of having worked with Synaptics. Synaptics and Samsung earlier worked together on the touch based finger print sensor that are part of Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

    Apple vs Samsung

Apple isn’t the pioneer of using finger-print technology -OEMs have been working on it longer than Apple, so has Synaptics as is evidenced from the progress it has made so far. Samsung wouldn’t shy away from employing this feature in its new devices once its ready. Only time will tell if it would it be another contentious feature in the list of over-laps between Samsung and Apple.

  • Can BlackBerry Make a Comeback with the Priv?

Can BlackBerry Make a Comeback with the Priv?

It’s been a while since BlackBerry has made any sort of major statement in the mobile world. There was a time when BlackBerry had so much going for it as it stood apart from the typical smartphones on the tech circuit. BlackBerry loyalists loved a great deal of what the QWERTY-centric phone was providing.

Pretty soon people started expecting more -more apps, more services, more everything, which BlackBerry was having a tough time providing. But you can’t say the company didn’t try. The BlackBerry Bold range were a great set of handsets by the company. It did have most of your favorite social media apps such as Facebook, Twitter, BBM chats. It also looked great and had a distinctive BlackBerry feel to it with finger-friendly QWERTY keyboard that was more premium than the Curve.

    BLACKBERRY BOLD
    BlackBerry Bold

The problem the Bold lineup was facing was that it lacked a lot of native apps. Around 2010, the iPhone did not face this problem and neither did the Android devices, which is what made many people trade in their BlackBerry devices for an iPhone or an Android phone. After the influx of Android devices, BlackBerry got pushed to the sideline. It was no longer ‘cool’ to own a BlackBerry. By 2011, BlackBerry was almost out of sight.

In 2013, BlackBerry made a comeback with the Z10 and Q10 which ran on the BB10 OS. The reactions towards the devices were mixed but overall it was fairly positive. While the Q10 had the traditional QWERTY keyboard, the Z10 went full touchscreen. This move was expected from a company that was literally trying to save itself. But it did not quite work well. The phones came equipped with BB10 OS. Now while the Z10 could make full use of the new OS but didn’t, the Q10 didn’t even have a chance. Quite evidently, the new OS was made for a full display. Yet the Z10 had the same problem as its predecessors – lack of native apps.

    blackberry-z10
    BlackBerry Z10

Jumping to present day -we see that BlackBerry is trying to make a comeback again with the new Priv. Much has been said about the Priv, which is like a hybrid of the Z10 and Bold. Judging solely on the renders of the device that have been seen, the Priv looks great. It looks attractive and the slide-out keyboard does not seem to hamper the device’s sleek look which is still distinctively BlackBerry at heart.

    blackberry-priv-official
    BlackBerry Priv

The phone features a full touchscreen display and a slide out keyboard to please fans of both types. Yes, there are still people out there who love the feel of a keyboard even though almost every device today is based fully on touch. Along with this, images of the Priv also suggest that the device has a curved display much like the Samsung Galaxy Edge. Furthermore, the phone is going big on security -a feature BlackBerry is already known for. There is a special security app for the device that monitors it for any threats. Also, it will also be the first Blackberry phone that will run on Android.

The specs of the Priv sound good, too. It will come with a Snapdragon 808 processor and 3 GB of RAM with 32 GB extendable storage. It features a 5.5 -inch curved display with a 1440×2560 pixel resolution and 537ppi. Finally, the Priv has an 18 MP primary camera and a 5 MP front. With a reasonable price tag, we could see BlackBerry right back into the game. Only time will tell if people are ready to go back to BlackBerry or if the company is a little too late.

Would you be willing to give the new Blackberry Priv a try? Tell us in the comments below.

  • Facebook Launches Messenger App on Apple Watch OS2

Facebook Launches Messenger App on Apple Watch OS2

Facebook launched its Messenger app on the Apple watch, just as it had promised to do in September. The update was rolled out yesterday on October 8th and is capable of supporting iOS 9 features, universal search and multitasking for iPads.

    Facebook Messenger app

The Apple Watch runs on the OS2 software and so the messenger app is also compatible with it. However, the messenger app is a little different from how it is on a smartphone. This means, that you won’t be able to type out full messages, but will be able to choose from a list of answers already available. You can send a “like”, post stickers and also record and send voice messages. Apart from the active sending actions of the app, you can open pictures, videos and voice messages on the receiving end.

    Messenger app on Apple Watch

There is one small downside though, the app will support all the Facebook stickers but won’t be able to display them in their original GIF form. They’ll appear static on the watch.

There’s some good news for Android users too, the Messenger app will also be compatible with Android Wear. Therefore, Facebook  has yet again ensured that everyone is happy and feels included at its party.

Dell-EMC To Be Part Of A Merger Deal

In an attempt to shake off its PC-only image, Dell has entered into talks with EMC, the cloud commuting company, for a merger deal. It remains unknown at this point if it will be a partial or an entire merger. Reportedly, EMC has been exploring options based on the federation structure it has raised with partnerships in various vendors from the industry, which include names like VMWare, Red Hat, VCE, and Pivotal.dell

If the deal materializes, it would mean strengthening of the company’s stability in Asia. Dell’s Asia Pacific president, Amit Midha says,

“I think we clearly have to communicate our end to end message of security integration, cloud, future-ready infrastructure, software-defined infrastructure; all of these messages are not easily understood by companies so we have more work to do.”

This merger with an established cloud computing company would perhaps let Dell expand its identity. Based in Texas, Dell is now a leading name in the tech world, having come a long way since its inception in 1984. It’s decision to buy EMC would undoubtedly lead to interesting developments on the technology front internationally, but more importantly, closer home in Asia.
