Apple, Samsung, Huawei and other companies, already use processors that have been developed by their own company. Now, Xiaomi would also like to follow suit. As of now it uses either Qualcomm or MediaTek in its devices, apart from the Xiaomi Redmi 2A, however, reports suggest that it might be gearing up towards creating its own mobile processors and even launch it in 2016.
Reports also suggest that this new processor would only be used for the low-end Redmi series, and that the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to sport a Qualcomm chipset. It is said that Xiaomi has recently hired Qualcomm China Head Wang Xiang, although the company itself has not confirmed anything officially.
Currently, Xiaomi is scheduled to host an event on the 13th of August 2015, where the company will unveil the MIUI 7, and is expected to reveal the Xiaomi Mi 5 as well. The event is to take place at the China National Convention Centre.
The new operating system by Microsoft has been stealing all the limelight lately. According to a known Chinese analyst Pan Jiutang, Xiaomi is said to be launching a Windows 10 powered tablet in the ongoing quarter. It is said to be a successor to the Mi Pad tablet launched in May, last year.
It is not known whether the tablet will support the standard Windows 10 version or the Windows 10 Mobile version. Although Microsoft has generally suggested the use of the standard edition for tablets with displays larger than or equal to 8 inches.
The device is rumoured to release on the 16th of August 2015 along with the new version of the company’s MIUI user interface. However, Xiaomi has not made any official confirmations.
Xiaomi‘s one year anniversary announcements just keep getting better and better. After announcing the 32GB version for Mi4i, the company has permanently slashed the price for Mi4 64GB version by Rs. 2,000. The company had temporarily slashed the price of the Mi4 64GB variant yesterday at Flipkart, but now it is permanent. The phone is now available at a price of Rs. 17,999.
In the past, Xiaomi Mi4 has faced two price cuts, from Rs.23,999 to Rs.21,999 in April this year, and then to Rs. 19,999 in June. Xiaomi Mi4 has proved to be popular for providing hi-end specs at a lower price.
The Mi4 comes with a 5-inch 1080p display and runs on a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC processor with 3GB of RAM. The phone is available with 16/64 GB internal storage options. The camera on the phone is a 13 megapixel shooter with a wide f/1.8 aperture and an 8MP front camera. The phone is juiced up with a 3080 mAh battery.
Flipkart is also offering the Mi4 in exchange for your old phone, so you might get an extra discount of Rs. 5,000.
In the wearable segment, Xiaomi hit a jackpot last year, when it announced the Mi Band. The device was another bonafide hit from the company and it looks like the company is keen to follow its success. Xiaomi has announced the possibility of Mi Band 1S in a teaser. Although the band was expected to be announced yesterday, it seems some delay has come up.
Unveiled in July last year, the Mi fitness band is an aluminium surface band that comes with a micro laser perforation and no display screen. It can be used as a fitness and sleep tracking band and connects to a user’s smartphone and can unlock the handset without the need of passwords or patterns. It is water resistant and has a battery life of 30 days. It is available in a variety of colours like blue, pink, brown, grey and purple. It can also be customised with leather straps.
Xiaomi Mi Band is one of the cheapest wearable device in the market, which explains its success in the international market. In May, Xiaomi held the first flash sale for the Mi Band in India, which got over within seven seconds after opening at 5 p.m.
The new Mi Band 1S, is expected to feature a heart-rate monitor and a couple of other improvements. The Mi Band is currently available in India at a price of Rs. 999.
It’s amazing to note how Xiaomi transformed itself in India, from being ‘a Chinese company’ to ‘It’s Xiaomi’. No other Chinese company has been able to achieve a loyal fan base in India until now and for celebrating its first year in India, Xiaomi has released two new products for the Indian users – Mi headphones and Mi in-ear headphones, priced at Rs. 5,999 5,499 and Rs. 999, respectively.
The Mi headphones’ acoustic system is supported by a large 50mm diaphragm that is 4 times harder than steel and 60% lighter than titanium alloy. The Mi headphones are 25% larger than your usual headphones. It is also said to deliver 3D audio realistic surround sound, features dual-damping system to reduce ambient noise and has a built-in microphone for taking calls and music controls. Available in Gold, it comes with three replaceable on-ear and over-ear cushion kits and can be folded to fit in a durable carrying case for portability.
The Mi In-Ear headphones have the same features as the Mi headphones and share some materials, such as Kevlar fibers and built-in Knowles microphones. Xiaomi claims that both headphones perform better than headphones from Sennheiser.
The products will go on sale on Xiaomi India’s website from tomorrow. We are expecting Xiaomi to launch more such products in the coming week, so stay tuned.

The phone is priced at Rs.14, 999, which is around the same as the price for 16GB variant of Mi4. As we can see in the specs sheet above, the Yu Yureka Plus holds most of the same specs as the Xiaomi Mi 4i and the ASUS Zenfone 2, but only much cheaper. Except in terms of battery, of course. While the Xiaomi and the ASUS handsets rock it out with their 3,000mAh and above battery meter, the Yu Yureka Plus lags behind with only 2,500mAh of battery life. But, you can’t have everything in one package, right?
The phone will go on sale on the 24th of July at 12:00 Noon, at Amazon.in. The Yu Yureka Plus comes in two colour options, the Moondust Grey and the Alabaster White.
Xiaomi may launch a new product, according to a cryptic teaser released ahead of its anniversary on July 22. The teaser reads ‘move 4 to double’ indicating that the company could launch the Mi 4i 32GB variant in India.
The Xiaomi Mi4i, was launched with just 16GB of internal storage and no microSD card slot, which led to many users complaining about the storage problems faced. Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra said that the higher capacity variants of the Mi 4i would be launched in India in the future.
Priced at Rs. 12,999, the current Xiaomi Mi 4i has a 5-inch Full HD OGS IPS display with 441ppi pixel density. The phone is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Cortex-A53 processor. It features 2GB of RAM and 16GB of non-expandable storage space. The Mi 4i runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with the company’s MIUI 6 on top. Optics includes a 13MP rear and a 5MP shooter. The dual-SIM device is powered by a 3120mAh battery. Connectivity options include Micro-USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi.
It seems except for the expansion in storage, all the specifications would remain same.
Just four months after launching MiTV 2, Xiaomi has launched its successor, the MiTV 2S at an event held in China. At 9.9 mm, the 4K TV is as thin as Mi4, which the company claims, is the thinnest in the MiTV series. MiTV 2S is available in two variants – regular and Theatre.
Today we launch our most gorgeous TV yet, the #MiTV2S. It has the thinnest 9.9mm aluminum frame of our Mi TV series! pic.twitter.com/UAFRLMZddk
The MiTV 2S is a smart TV that runs on MIUI TV, a customised OS based on Android 5.0. The TV runs on a quad-core 1.4 Ghz Cortex A17 processor with 2GB of RAM and uses a MStar 6A928 chipset. Such configuration will allow the user to watch lossless 4K content, Xiaomi says. The MiTV 2S performs better than TVs from Sony, Sharp and Samsung, the company tweeted.
The MiTV has an HDMI 2.0 port which supports 4K 60Hz input and USB 3.0 port which has a transfer speed of 5 GBps. The MiTV 2S also has an internal memory of 8GB, which should allow you to store your favourite movies and TV shows in the TV itself. It also supports Wi-fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
As far as sound is concerned, Xiaomi developed its own sound system using the latest Dolby technology. The MiTV 2S comes with its own independent sound system, which the company claims is better than the Bose CineMate 1 SR, which has the reputation of being the best sound system in the market, till date.
On the design front, Xiaomi has spared no detail. The MiTV 2S sports a 9.9 mm thin aluminium frame and is available in five different colours – green, pink, white, blue and black. Even the plug has been stylishly framed, which the company says took 6 months and cost the company upwards of 500,000 Yuan.
The 48 inch MiTV 2S is available for 2,999 Yuan (Regular) and will cost 1,000 Yuan more for the Theatre edition.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus have already been the talk of the town, in recent times. While everyone anticipates its release into the market, the China based firm has let out yet another secret that will come as an exciting new upgrade to its devices.
Apart from the phones releasing tomorrow, which is good news enough, the Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus are likely to have wireless charging as the company revealed an image on social media sites, asking its fans to ‘take guesses’ on what is going to be unveiled tomorrow.
While it is clear that the Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus will be reasonably priced (not more than 30,000 thousand rupees), this new speculated feature will surely add a competitive edge to the devices as we saw Samsung playing its wireless charging card earlier, this year.
The Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus are touted as the most anticipated phones of the year as there have been many rumours and leaks regarding their specs as well as the release date. Xiaomi released the Mi 4i, this May and sold a staggering 40,000 units within 15 seconds due to its raging popularity.
Hence, we are presumably excited about the launch of the Mi 5 and Mi 5 plus. Let’s see how Xiaomi fares with the coming of these devices.
Back in April, Xiaomi unveiled its new smartphone, the Mi 4i, at a grand event in New Delhi. One lakh registrations went up, and 40,000 units were sold out within 15 seconds. Rumours had that the company would be launching two more devices in the lineup later between June and July. The two anticipated devices were the Mi5 and Mi5 Plus.
Today, it is unveiled that the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi on Saturday teased an event that is scheduled to be held on 16 July, a social networking site Weibo said. The device that may come in the market is speculated to Xiaomi Mi 5.
As we can see in the picture revealed online, it could be Mi 5 with a metal body that is looking thin with curved corners.
The claimed specs of the devices were leaked on the Chinese social media site, Weibo. The Mi 5 is lauded to have a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels. It is held it will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with either 3GB or 4GB RAM and will be juiced by a 3,000mAh battery. Its camera specification includes a 16MP primary camera. The device will also be infused with fingerprint technology.
The leaks also suggested that the Mi5 will be priced at CNY 2,399 (approximately Rs. 24,500).
News and reports of its larger cousin, the Mi5 Plus is yet to be announced. Going by the specs, the Mi 5 Plus will feature a 6-inch screen with 4GB RAM, 32GB internal memory and a 16MP primary camera.
Meanwhile, another of Xiaomi’s smartphones expected to be launched in 2015 is the Redmi Note 2, the successor to the popular Redmi Note of 2014. Acknowledging the fact that the Redmi Note was launched in July 2014, there is a good chance that its successor could be unveiled during the 16 July event. But, let us wait till Thursday to find out.
The smartphone train keeps on moving forward as time passes by. With almost half of the year gone by, we’ve seen many new devices like Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge and HTC One M9. But the year is far from ending, and many companies have given out hints of their new unnamed devices. Let us check them out below
Apple iPhone 6s
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were released in September, and in the months leading up to that, the gossip mill went mental. Be ready for more of the same with the iPhone 6S, which will launch in September 2015 running iOS 9. As always, we’re presuming a faster processor and some upgraded specs, but little change to the design. According to rumours, the new devices will have a faster A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel camera, an additional microphone to enhance voice quality, and a new interior mechanical design to address some bending issues users experienced with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
OnePlus Two
OnePlus One was one of the most successful Chinese electronic startup stories of 2014. This handset captured an enormous chunk of the mid-segment smartphone market. OnePlus announced a new device on June, which is expected to be the next OnePlus handset. According to OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, the OnePlus 2 will surprise us, and is likely to focus on flagship-rivalling design rather than specs. The OnePlus 2 launches on 27 July, and will be the first product ever to do so in virtual reality. We already know it will feature OxygenOS, an upgraded Snapdragon 810 processor, USB Type-C and a fingerprint scanner; also expect 4GB of RAM, a 3300mAh battery and a 5.5in 2K screen.
Samsung Galaxy Note 5
Everyone always brags on about Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup, but it’s the Note series that really impresses. The Note 4 was unveiled at a Samsung Unpacked event prior to September’s IFA trade show (3 September 2014), and right now sits at the top of our fastest smartphone and best phablet charts. Traditionally Samsung’s Note launches are held at IFA in September, but rumours suggest we might see the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 as early as July to give it a headstart on the new iPhones.
Mi5 and Mi5 Plus
Reports from Gizmochina claim two more devices will be joining Xiaomi’s line-up later in June 2015. These devices are larger copies of the Mi 4, expected to be named Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus. The claimed specs of the devices were leaked on the Chinese social media site, Weibo. The Mi 5 is touted to have a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels. It is believed to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with either 3GB or 4GB RAM and will be juiced by a 3,000mAh battery. Its camera specification includes a 16MP primary camera. The device will also be infused with fingerprint technology. Its larger cousin, named as Mi 5 Plus, will feature a 6-inch screen with 4GB RAM, 32GB internal memory and a 16MP primary camera. While nothing has been mentioned about the price, some rumors claim that Mi5 is slated to be priced around Rs. 23,900. Should the rumor turn out to be true, Mi5 will become one of the strongest performing phones in the market. We hope Xiaomi announces Mi5 as early as possible.
LG G5
Rumours say that LG is now working on the successor of the G4, and will be bringing iris recognition system into play. Reports from Korean publications state that LG has teamed up with local biometrics specialist Irience to implement this feature in its next smartphone. Reports also indicate that the phone will be released in the last quarter of 2015. For now, this is the only information we have found out.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini and Galaxy S6 Plus
Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini
It seems like Samsung is on the move to expand its range of Galaxy lineups. The Korean company is reportedly working on a smaller version and a larger version of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, namely, Galaxy S6 Mini and Galaxy S6 Plus respectively. Both the rumours emerged this week.
According to GSMArena, the smaller version, Galaxy S6 Mini, or ‘SM-G9198′, the device will be an iPhone 6 competitor. It will have a 4.6-inch HD display and run on Snapdragon 808 chip with 2GB of RAM. It will be equipped with a 15MP primary camera and a 4.7MP front camera.
Galaxy S6 Plus
Meanwhile, Italy’s HDBlog revealed that the company is working on a bigger version, possibly a phablet, on the Galaxy S6 line. For now, the device has been codenamed as ‘Project Zero 2?. Interestingly, the S6 and S6 Edge were codenamed ‘Project Zero’. According to the rumours, the device will just be like the Galaxy S6, only bigger and with a more powerful battery.
Microsoft Lumia 940XL
Microsoft had launched the Lumia 930 almost a year ago, and now, the company is back with its newest smartphone, the Microsoft Lumia 940XL. According to NokiaPowerUser, the device is a larger version of the Lumia 940. The device is expected to have a bigger 5.7-inch display with a slim design and a metal frame. The processor will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for expandable storage, a 5MP front-facing camera, a 20MP main PureView camera for photos and videos, and will feature native pen support as well.Further, it will also support USB C-Type and an Iris Scanner too. The specs sound very exciting, but the company has not officially confirmed the existence of such a device.
Motorola Moto X (third-gen)
Motorola may launch the third generation of its flagship Moto X smartphones in the coming few months. According to STJS Gadgets, the third-generation Moto X is leaked by a Motorola insider, who claims to have a hold of details about the next Moto X. Bonus
Nexus 5 2015
New reports have emerged that after months of speculation about with whom will Google team up with for its next Nexus device, it seems that LG could be the one to build the next, temporarily named, Nexus 5 2015. According to Android Pit, rather than basing the Nexus 5 2015 on the LG G4, LG will be creating the new handset from the scratch. The device would sport a 5.2-inch screen display, six-core Snapdragon 808 processor by Qualcomm, and 2,700 mAh battery pack, according to the rumours. It may also come in 64 GB and 128 GB variants and have a 16-megapixel rear camera and a five-megapixel wide-angle camera in front.
However, for now, neither Google nor LG has confirmed the news. Also, Google’s next mobile OS, Android M is set for an August release date. Hence, details regarding how many Nexus devices are going to be released and who would be building them will be out really soon.

Xiaomi, from January to June 2015, has sold 34.7 million smartphones, thus proving to the world that it is more than just a company that is manufacturing generic slabs of hardware to the world. This number beat last years’ number by 33%, thus proving to its competitors that Xiaomi is here to stay, and for a long time.
We sold 34.7 million smartphones in 1H 2015 alone, a 33% year-on-year increase! Big thanks to Mi fans. RT the news! pic.twitter.com/5EGzJBDlDc
Even with the China smartphone market slowing down, we did a stellar job of posting a 33% growth in last year’s numbers. It can be said that we outperformed the market and produced an excellent report card.
Lei Jung also reported last year that the company was aiming to sell a 100 million devices in 2015, but in the coming few months, he revised the number to 80-100 million. But to reach this figure, Xiaomi has to expand to new territories. This is why precisely Xiaomi extended its arm and launched the Redmi 2 in Brazil. It is also highly likely that Brazil may be established as the manufacturing hub for Latin America. Beyond Brazil, where it will start selling its first phone on July 7, the company previously earmarked Turkey, Mexico, Russia and other parts of Southeast Asia as future expansions.
Xiaomi Founding Team with Mr. Mr. Jun Lei (in red).
Xiaomi is now valued at $45 billion and is the third largest exporter of smartphones. Xiaomi said that six of their phone models sold more than 10 million units each. During Mi Fan Festival in April this year, Xiaomi sold 2.12 million phones in just 12 hours. Sales on Mi.com make up 70% of Xiaomi’s total smartphone sales, helping the company become China’s third-largest e-commerce player.
Xiaomi is on a roll, seeking out new markets for rapid international expansion. When it first started off in 2010, this company did not expect that five years down the line, it would become one of the biggest smartphone companies globally. Yes, Xiaomi had taken the tech world by surprise when they released the Xiaomi Mi series lineup, capable of holding its own ground against Apple or Samsung smartphones.

It has been ages since we last heard anything about the rumored Mi5. It was speculated that Xiaomi would launch the successor to Mi4 earlier this year, but instead the company released the Mi4i, which soon became a bestseller. Today, a report has emerged which says that the company will launch Mi5 in the November.
Codenamed “Libra”, the phone will sport a 5.3 inch QHD display, which is consistent with the previous rumors about Mi5. The phone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 64-bit chipset paired with a 4GB RAM. Xiaomi Mi5 will come in two variants -16GB and 64GB version. Since Xiaomi always considers Apple its main competitor, the phone will include fingerprint scanner and run on a 3,030mAh battery. Also, it will have a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 6-megapixel front camera.
The phone will run on Android Lollipop based MIUI OS. Xiaomi will also offer another variant, Mi5 Plus, which would basically be a bigger version of Mi5, just like Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The phone is rumored to come with a 6 inch display with 2K resolution, 4GB RAM with 32GB storage capacity and 16 MP rear camera.
