iGyaan Tech Tips: How To Install Third-Party Apps On Xiaomi Mi TV 4

The Xiaomi Mi TV 4 was launched in India on the 14th of February along with Redmi Note 5 and 5 Pro. At the time of the launch, the smart TV was priced at Rs 39999 which disrupted the Indian smart TV market. Since then, companies like Thomson, TCL etc have also launched affordable smart televisions to compete with the Mi TV 4. However, the Xiaomi Mi TV 4 now costs Rs 44999, which Xiaomi claims is in an effort to ramp up the supply after recent changes in PCBA import taxes and the depreciation of INR since the beginning of the year.

In our review of the Mi TV 4, we were really impressed with the product. The company’s AI-powered Patchwall UI needs a few more updates to be considered a real feature but, it works. Our main issue with the television was lack of native support for content streaming services like Netflix, Hoststar, Amazon Prime Video etc. We initially tried to install apps but, to no avail.

However, after a few and hit and misses, we have finally figured out a way to install apps on the Xiaomi Mi TV 4 for a much better content consumption experience. Follow these steps to the T and you should be able to enjoy Netflix, Hotstar and lots of other apps on your mi TV 4.

OnePlus has been teasing a few features of the device on its social media platforms and the latest image posted on the company’s Weibo account yet again reveals a new feature of the OnePlus 6.

According to a new image, the OnePlus 6 could have a heart rate sensor. As is visible in the image, the number ‘6’ is made of a cardiogram which hints at the presence of a heart rate sensor. Samsung devices like the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S9 already have a heart rate sensor on the back next to the camera module. In the leaked images so far, we have not seen a cutout or heart rate sensor but, this image was posted on the company’s official account.

According to the listing on TENNA, the OnePlus 6 will have a 6.28 inch Super AMOLED display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. This translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio and the phone will shift to a conventional 18:9 aspect ratio if a user decides to hide the notch.

Honor 10 To Launch In India On May 15th For Rs 32999

Honor launched the Honor 10 in China on the 19th of April. The smartphone will launch in India on the 15th of May and the device will take on the soon to be launched OnePlus 6. The OnePlus 6 will launch in India on the 17th of May and has been highly anticipated for a while. The Honor 10 will be sold as a Flipkart exclusive.

The Honor 10 will be priced at Rs 32999 and take on the OnePlus 6. The OnePlus 6 is expected to be priced at Rs 34999 for the base model with 6GB and 64GB storage. The Honor 10 will be available in Phantom Blue and Mirage Purple colour variants. The smartphone has a dual-tone colour of blue and pink and in the images at least, looks pretty fantastic.

The Honor 10 has a 5.84 inch IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. This translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio and also features a notch on the display. The Honor 10 runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset with an octa-core processor. The flagship chipset is coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage which is expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card. The fingerprint reader like expected is not embedded inside the display, instead, it is an invisible ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that can also detect a wet finger. It is also front-facing since it is housed inside the chin of the smartphone.

Honor also claims that the Honor 10’s dual-camera setup has a lot of AI capabilities. The company is betting big on the device’s AI capabilities, which Honor is calling “AI 2.0.” According to Honor, AI 2.0 can detect dynamic pictures more accurately. The phone’s AI 2.0 can also process Prisma-like image effects twice as fast as the iPhone X.

The Honor 10 is an impressive smartphone, at least on paper, and should give the OnePlus 6 a run for its money. The Honor 10 also has very impressive colour variants which can be a big differentiating factor in times when specifications of devices are so similar.

  • LG will Drop The Notch For The LG V35 ThinQ

LG will Drop The Notch For The LG V35 ThinQ

LG launched the G7 ThinQ on the 2nd of May. The smartphone hardly had anything surprising features as most of them were leaked much before it officially launched. After a few other OEMs, LG also embraced the infamous notch with G7 ThinQ. Now, it looks like the company will revert to the old design for its upcoming smartphone, the LG V35 ThinQ.

The LG V35 ThinQ will be a follow-up to the V30, which was launched in India in December 2017. New renders of the LG V35 ThinQ reveal that LG might not be fond of the design of G7 ThinQ. The company will move back to a traditional design with uniform bezels all around the bezels. This could be a good news for people looking to buy an LG smartphone but, are not the biggest fans of the notch.

Another reason for LG not going for notched display could be to differentiate the lineups. It is also rumoured that the V35 ThinQ will have an OLED panel like its predecessor. The G7 ThinQ has an LCD display and LG has talked up its brightness levels up until now. This means that LG does want differentiating factors between the two lineups and the notch could be a major factor.

According to the leaks, the LG V35 ThinQ will have a 6 inch QHD+ OLED “FullVision” display. The device will have an 18:9 aspect ratio and an 80% screen-to-body ratio.

Under the hood, the smartphone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The onboard storage is expected to expandable via a microSD card. The one feature that could make its way to the V35 ThinQ from the G7 is the Google Assistant button. As the name of the smartphone suggests, the V35 will have a lot of emphasis on AI.

The LG V30 was launched in August in 2017 but, the V35 ThinQ probably won’t follow the same pattern. The smartphone is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2018 as LG would want to launch new smartphones as and when required.

  • Moto Z3 Play With 18:9 Aspect Ratio Leaked In Live Images

Moto Z3 Play With 18:9 Aspect Ratio Leaked In Live Images

The Moto Z lineup of smartphones is known for its modularity. The first generation Moto Z was launched in June 2016 and since then, we have seen a few iterations of the modular smartphone. The Moto Z2 Force was recently launched in India and the 3rd generation of Moto Z devices are expected to be launched in 2018. The Moto Z3 Play has now been leaked in live images revealing the possible design and specifications of the upcoming device.

According to the leaked images, the Moto Z3 Play will continue the design language followed by the Moto G6 lineup. The smartphone will have an 18:9 aspect ratio with thin bezels all-around. There are a small forehead and chin on the device but, no notch. This should be a good news for notch-haters looking to buy a Moto Z smartphone.

The images also reveal that the Moto Z3 Play will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box which should not be a surprise. The Moto G6 and E5 lineup that was recently launched, also run the latest version of Android out of the box. Interestingly, the smartphone will have the May 1 security patch as well.

The dual-camera setup sits on the back and considering the device will be compatible with current Moto Mods, it will have the same dimensions as previous Moto Z devices. Only the thickness of the device will be different. The fingerprint sensor, according to a few leaks, will be housed inside the power button.

Thanks to the 18:9 aspect ratio and thinner bezels, the device will have a 6-inch display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution. The Moto Z3 Play is expected to run on the Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with either 4GB RAM/32GB storage or 6GBRAM/64GB storage.

  • LG Claims It Did Not Copy Apple iPhone X’s Notch

LG Claims It Did Not Copy Apple iPhone X’s Notch

The Essential Ph-1 was technically the first smartphone to have a notch on the display. It was a tiny cutout on the top for the front-camera which made it look like a cyborg’s eye. However, the notch was made famous by the iPhone X which was launched in September 2017. Ever since the iPhone X was launched, we have seen more Android OEMs have embraced the notch with devices like the Huawei P20 Pro, Asus Zenfone 5Z. The latest to join the list is the LG G7 ThinQ.

LG, however, claims that it did not imitate the iPhone X. Hwang Jeong-hwan, chief of LG’s mobile division in an interview said:

We planned the notch design before Apple. The display design may look similar to that of other smartphones, but boasts differentiated features.

The LG G7 ThinQ is not the last smartphone to sport a notch, though. The OnePlus 6, scheduled for a May 16th launch will also have an iPhone X-like notch. Google has also recognised the growing popularity of the notch and decided to introduce a feature in the first developer’s preview of Android P. We expect Android P to have better support for this design and more apps will be acclimatised with various kinds of notches in the near future.

  • Apple iPhone X Was The Best Selling Smartphone In Q1 Of 2018

Apple iPhone X Was The Best Selling Smartphone In Q1 Of 2018

Launched in September of 2017 for a whopping US$ 999 starting price, the Apple iPhone X had its fair share of doubters. The new design complete with a notch initially did not impress many. The iPhone X also did not have the famed Touch ID and was replaced Apple’s own facial recognition system, now known as Face ID. With so many changes and a record high price, the iPhone X was still the best selling smartphone of Q1 of 2018.

    Apple

In a new report by Strategy Analytics, Apple sold 16 million units of the iPhone X in the quarter, making it the best selling smartphone. Apple did announce record profits for the quarter and Tim Cook claimed that the Apple iPhone was the best selling smartphone in many markets. Apple announced quarterly revenue of US$ 61.1 billion, a year-over-year growth of 16% which is much higher than its street estimates.

A close second on the list of best selling smartphones was the iPhone 8 with 12.5 million units. The iPhone 8 Plus, launched along with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X was the third best selling smartphone with 8.3 million units sold. At number four on the list was the iPhone 7, a smartphone launched in 2016, with 5.6 million units sold during the quarter.

    iPhone 8, 8 Plus

Xiaomi’s “Desh Ka Smartphone” Redmi 5A was fifth on the list with 5.4 million units sold. Credit has to be given to the Samsung Galaxy S9 for coming in sixth on the list. The smartphone was launched in late-February and went on sale in March. In all, the top six smartphones accounted for 1 in every 7 smartphones shipped in the world during the quarter.

    Redmi 5A

It is a mind-boggling statistic that the top five best selling smartphones were from the same company, Apple. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which were believed to be unimpressive when compared to the iPhone X managed to be among the best selling smartphones of the quarter. This report also contradicts many claims from analysts that the Apple iPhone X is not in demand anymore and the Apple is planning to stop the production of the iPhone X.

    About Android Go

At the Google I/O event in May 2017, Google promised to launch a custom version of Android tailor-made for lower-end devices. On the 5th of December, Android Go (Oreo edition) was officially launched and made available to smartphone manufacturers and developers.

The idea behind Android Go is for Google to create a version of Android OS which is designed to run better on phones with either 512MB or 1GB of RAM. In the world of OnePlus 5T with its 8GB of RAM or Galaxy Note8’s 6GB RAM, it is easy to forget that there are lower-end smartphones currently available in the market which have 1GB of RAM or less.

Google has claimed that Android Go’s Oreo edition will be a variant of Android Oreo that a manufacturer can just set by ticking off a configuration flag. What this basically does is that it sets up the phone to use the “Go” versions of a handful of Google apps such as the main Google app, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Gmail, and others. Google claims that the smaller apps and slimmer OS can as much as halve the amount of storage that’s taken up by default on a new phone running default OS.

For an entry-level Android Go device, the Zenfone Live L1 has impressive specifications, especially when compared to the likes of the Nokia 1, another Android Go device. However, the Zenfone Live doe snot have a fingerprint sensor which is a norm for a 2018 a smartphone. There are no details about the smartphone’s launch in India as of now.
