This is What Apple Music Could Look Like on Android

Apple haters may hate a lot of things about Apple’s products, but there is one thing that moves beyond hate. Music. And Apple haters and loyalists alike love music. There was a time when Apple revolutionized the way we listen to music with the iPod. But early this year saw the end to the classic iPod. To continue its goal to redefine music, Apple launched the Apple Music.

Apple Music is currently an iOS-only music streaming platform that gives you access to millions of songs from the company’s iTunes library. And for a basic monthly subscription, you can listen to unlimited music. This was Apple’s promise, and this is what they have delivered.

Apple Music (3) Apple Music (2)

The Apple Music is actually quite brilliant. It gives the most popular music streaming platform today (Spotify) a run for its money. The reason being is that Apple Music is personal. Apple has put a lot of thought in the way the music service works for you. From curated playlists that have about 12-15 songs, which is just right, to Beats Radio, and Connect that lets you see what your favorite artist is up to. There is everything a music lover could ask for. But iOS users already know this. So why are we saying it now? It’s because Apple had promised that its music streaming service will come to Android soon as well.

    Apple-Music-Android Apple-Music-Android 02

The company said that Apple Music will be available for Android users this fall, which is any time now. Some screenshots published by Mobile Geeks show what Apple Music could look like for Android, and it’s pretty much what you’d expect. All the main features of Apple Music is present. Users will navigate Apple Music by using a slide-out menu accessible through the hamburger icon or via a swipe from the left side.

    Apple-Music-Android 03 Apple-Music-Android 01

The For You section that shows curated playlists and artists based on your choice of music and genre, along with New, Beats 1 radio. Connect and My Music are all there. Presumably the My Music will link your phone’s music folder so all your songs are in one place. For iOS users the Apple Music was a natural extension to the Music app.

So, Android users in India will soon have the option to jump on to the Apple Music service. There are already a few music streaming platforms in India like Wynk, Saavn, Gaana and Hungama, that are pretty good. It is likely that Apple will provide a 3-months free trial of Apple Music for Android users as well. So once the app is out, give it a whirl and see if this is the service  for you. The monthly subscription for iOS users is Rs. 120 for individuals and Rs. 180 for families. For Android users, the cost is likely to be around the same.

  • Domino’s Launches New Delivery Car With a Built-in Oven

Domino’s Launches New Delivery Car With a Built-in Oven

Who doesn’t love pizza right? Thin crust, thick crust, cheese burst and deep dish, we’re all fans. So when avid pizza lovers hear ‘Domino’s’, you most often than not get squeamish responses. An experienced pizza fan would think of Domino’s as the last option because it seems to have lost its A game. This little experiment however, will make you take notice of this old pizza chain.

    dominos

Domino’s has tried innovative ways to try and get their customers to order pizza. From ordering with the help of a pizza emoji, to even a Siri-like assistant helping you out in their mobile app. They’ve done it all. However, they just went a step further recently, and announced their very own Domino’s Delivery car!

Fondly and officially called the DXP (Domino’s Delivery Expert), it is a custom made car to keep your pizza warm and fresh (Because plastic boxes at the back of motorcycles weren’t good enough.) And if you’re already perplexed by the fact that Domino’s would actually make their own car for just one purpose, it’ll be even more perplexing to know that this project took 3 years to come through, from conception to completion. 3 years. We wonder how many pizzas went cold and delivered till then.

    dominos2

We don’t want to drown with our sarcasm any further, but the DXP is actually designed for long distance deliveries where the food might get lukewarm while unpacking or in transit. This way they can assure the customer that the food will be delivered piping hot. So not such a bad idea right?

The DXP is essentially a Chevrolet Spark with just one seat that is the driver’s. It has storage areas located both in the front and the back along with proper compartments to keep the items still and not moving with all the bumps the car might hit. The fanciest feature, however, is a warming oven placed right behind the drivers seat that fulfils the motive of keep all the food hot and fresh.

    dominos car

The DXP has the capacity to accommodate up to 80 pizzas, along with Domino’s other menu items including salads, wings and 2-liter bottles of soda, according to sources. Basically, it has enough storage to feed a business meeting or a school event or even a largish house party.

Video footage of the car, courtesy of MLive, can be seen below.

Russell Weiner, president of Domino’s USA, stated:

“The Domino’s DXP is the first purpose-built vehicle aimed at revolutionizing pizza delivery,” This innovation allows drivers to do their jobs with greater ease and efficiency, and demonstrates that Domino’s is absolutely fanatical about making perfect deliveries.”

What are other pizza places going to do without this baffling, over efficient, heat inducing, invention? Only time will tell. But it’s safe to say that we in India will still receive hot pizza regardless of a car, on a motorcycle, in 30 minutes. Or free.

The DXP will begin rolling out in select markets over the next three months and no, India isn’t on the list as of now. The first cities to make use of the DXP are Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, New Orleans, Indianapolis, San Diego, and Seattle.

Do you feel like you’re really missing out though? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Nike Made ‘Back to the Future’ Self-Lacing Sneakers a Reality

Nike Made ‘Back to the Future’ Self-Lacing Sneakers a Reality

Just when we thought Back to the Future Day couldn’t get any better after the new Hendo Hoverboard news, we find out that Nike has done the impossible! The shoemaking giant has lived up to its name and has finally made the Back to the Future’s self-lacing shoes a reality.

The company had been teasing something big on Twitter a few days ago that got fans all excited. You would be too if you read this tweet.

The tweet was for Micheal J, Fox, who played Marty McFly in Back to the Future. As you all must be knowing by now that October 21, 2015 was celebrated as Back to the Future Day around the world. This is because this is the date to which Marty and Doc Brown travel to in 1989’s Back to the Future II. In the film’s version of 2015, Marty gets a pair of self-lacing Nike Mags sneakers, among other futuristic toys. And yes, they were the coolest kicks in 2015.

    nike2

On Thursday, Nike made the ‘future’ happen by launching the self-tying shoes in the best way possible: by having Micheal J. Fox try out the first pair. And it was a beautiful sight to see.

Micheal J. Fox was as excited as anyone else about how the ‘future’ has finally arrived, and expressed his joy on Twitter.

The company announced a possible 2016 release for the shoes. The announcement also mentions that the shoes are limited edition models at the present and will first be sold via auction with all the proceeds going to the Michael J. Foundation for Parkinson’s Research some time next year.

“By imagining the future, we create it,” reads the statement from Nike. “Product that comes alive, with on-demand comfort and support when you need, product that senses you and adapts to you is right around the corner.”

It might be a while before these sneakers hit the market, but right now we can simply take pleasure in seeing that the McFly shoes are now a real thing. This is the future, and it looks really good.

  • Everything You Want to Know About 3D Printers

Everything You Want to Know About 3D Printers

3D printers are the next big thing. These devices are touted to bring the industrial age where manufacturing will shift from giant warehouses to homes. The technology has been used to make small tools to houses. 3D printing can truly pave the way to the next generation economy. For those of you still oblivious to this fantastic feat of engineering, we bring you all that you need to know about the technology that might actually change your life.

The 3D printing or additive manufacturing (AM) is a technique by which you can create or recreate a three-dimensional object. The 3D printers are also considered to be industrial robots for their manufacturing aptitude. The technology utilises computer-aided formation of objects by laying successive layers of materials. The materials can vary from plastic to metals like silver, steel, and titanium.

A Chinese company were able to make 10 houses through 3D printing.
A Chinese company was able to make 10 houses through 3D printing.

What can you do with it?

With AM, you can even create complex objects with intricate moving bits. Designers and engineers have created working electric car models in a duration of just 44 hours. Of course, they used an industrial-sized printer, but the fact remains that this technology could bring manufacturing closer to home and decrease the massive amount of investment that goes into bringing the product from factory to shop. The 3D printing is exceptionally economical as it can create complex parts for machines, cars and even airplanes at a fraction of the cost of conventional processes. The printers can be scaled down and up easily depending on the requirement.

The printers are also capable of creating electronic circuitry so it might only be a matter of time before you can get OTA updates for a new phone altogether. This, coupled with technological experiences gained by developments like Project Ara, would help in creating the next generation eco-friendly devices that are also economical.

Human body organ replacements can also be printed out.
Human body organ replacements can also be printed.

The 3D printers are also being used in the health industry. Using biological data, researchers have printed replacement organs for humans. The technology is also being used in food design and has let artists create some cool looking treats.

These printers will come really handy to space travelers. Instead of carrying a massive inventory of spares and tools, they can simply carry a printer on board that will create the spares they need. This will clear more space for human utilisation and make the spacefarers self-sufficient in the long run.

    How does it do it?

3D Printers uses computer aided designs to create printable models.
3D Printers use computer-aided designs to create printable models.

The first step in the process of 3D printing is acquiring the 3D model of the object that you want to print. This can be done manually by using modelling softwares. There has been an influx of a lot of softwares intended to print 3D objects. You can easily get free softwares where you can create rudimentary objects or if you have the stomach for it, you can go for professional softwares like 3ds Max or Autodesk Maya.

There are also a lot of websites that offer predesigned objects that you can download. Websites like Thingiverse have a lot of options to choose from to try out your hand at creating stuff off computer designs right in your homes.

And if that’s still out of your technological proficiency, then the printers itself lets you scan the images that you are trying to recreate. It’s easier than easy with the 3D printing.

    Where can I get it?

Printing powerhouse HP has also come up with its Multi Jet Fusion 3D printer.
Printing powerhouse HP has also come up with its Multi Jet Fusion 3D printer.

Presently, the devices cost truly a bomb, but for what they can do, they are a bang for the bucks. Printers like the Makerbot come at a premium price of Rs. 3,50,000, which may actually be cheap for an enterprise segment. You can also get lower-priced models for home usage for just above a lakh rupees, and they will give you great ease in making prototypes. Even big brands have seen the potential of the technology and have started working on their own models, one of the prominent names is HP’s Multi Jet Fusion technology.

The 3D printing revolution is here, and it needs its revolutionaries. Manufacturing science is a great area of study that really require people. If you are an engineering student looking for a field of study, then manufacturing should be it. And if you are a kind of person who likes to create the future, keep your eyes on the 3D printers, they are about to change the world.

  • The Apple Watch is Finally Coming to India

The Apple Watch is Finally Coming to India

Apple is all set to launch the Apple Watch in India. The company’s India website now features a Watch option on the top along with other Apple products. The smartwatch will hit the stores on November 6th, according to the website.

The Apple Watch was first unveiled in March and began rolling out in April with a few countries at a time. The Watch is available in two variants – 38 mm and 42 mm. The US price of the Apple Watch’s base Sport model is $349 (around Rs. 23,000), which can be expected to cost close to Rs. 30,000 in India. The company has launched close to 34 combinations of the Watch with prices going as high as $10,000 for the Watch edition.

    Apple Watch 01

Apple has been mum on how well the Apple Watch has been doing. The company has also refused to disclose how many units it has sold till date. Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the information was privileged and that he didn’t want to “help the competition.” That hasn’t stopped analysts trying to come up with an estimate. Some analysts have said that Apple has managed to ship 4.2 million units in the last three months.

    Apple Watch

Apple recently unveiled the new watchOS 2, the updated system software for the Apple Watch, which brought features like activation lock, native apps, email reply and more. You can also use Messenger on the Apple Watch.

    Apple Watch 02

The biggest challenge is whether the Indian market is ready for wearable technologies like a smartwatch. It may be a while before consumers are ready to have something expensive around their wrists, and initial sales may not be as big as one is used to when an Apple product launches in India. However, the news has already gotten Indian developers building apps for the Watch, and some of the first ones include the likes of Cleartrip, HDFC Bank app, and Avaamo among others.

  • Samsung Officially Launches the Galaxy On5 and On7 Smartphones

Samsung Officially Launches the Galaxy On5 and On7 Smartphones

Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot about Samsung’s newest budget phones, the Galaxy On5 and On7. The devices were briefly listed in the companies website a few days ago and we understood some specs of the devices. Samsung has now officially launched the phones and here’s what we know.

The On5 and On7 are pretty similar to each other and are equipped with a 1.3 GHz 32-bit quad-core Samsung Exynos 3475 processor paired with a Mali-T720 MP1 GPU and 1.5 GB of RAM. The phones come with a really low 8 GB internal storage, but are expandable up to 128 GB via MicroSD slot.

    galaxy-on7 (2)

The Galaxy On7 and the Galaxy On5 feature 5.5-inch and 5.0-inch Super AMOLED display, respectively. Another point of difference between them is the camera. The Galaxy On5 has an 8-megapixel rear camera while the On7 houses a 13-megapixel sensor rear, and they both sport a 5-megapixel front. Meanwhile, the On7 has a bigger 3000mAh battery compared to On5’s 2,600mAh.
    galaxy-on7

Samsung has in all likelihood cut down on bloatware for the two devices seeing as it comes only with an 8 GB internal storage. However, even with reduced bloatware, an 8 GB phone will be a tough sell for buyers. One will have to wait and see how people take to Samsung’s new phones.

As far as pricing is concerned there has been no word on it yet, though the expected prices stand at $150 for the On5 and around $200 for the On7. The phones are expected to launch in markets outside China in the next few months.

  • Facebook Admits its App is Sucking Your iPhone’s Battery Dry

Facebook Admits its App is Sucking Your iPhone’s Battery Dry

Last week we had mentioned that the Facebook app for iOS may be the reason why your iPhone’s battery is draining faster than usual. Facebook has now confirmed that it is indeed their iOS app that is causing the battery issue. Many users have reported that the Facebook app in the battery menu shows as consuming quite a bit of battery even when usage is at a minimum.

“We found a few key issues and have identified additional improvements, some of which are in the version of the app that was released today,” wrote Facebook’s Ari Grant yesterday.

The first issue we found was a “CPU spin” in our network code. A CPU spin is like a child in a car asking, “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?”with the question not resulting in any progress to reaching the destination. This repeated processing causes our app to use more battery than intended. The version released today has some improvements that should start making this better.

Indeed, Facebook did come out with an iOS update yesterday (as it usually does every 2 weeks for improvement in speed and reliability). The update description did not mention any ‘bug’ fixes, but going by the word of Grant, you may start seeing some improvements once you’ve updated the app.

    Facebook Update

Another issue for battery drain is due to the way Facebook handles audio playback. “If you leave the Facebook app after watching a video, the audio session sometimes stays open as if the app was playing audio silently. This is similar to when you close a music app and want to keep listening to the music while you do other things, except in this case it was unintentional and nothing kept playing. The app isn’t actually doing anything while awake in the background, but it does use more battery simply by being awake,” Grant said, promising that their new fixes will solve this issue and will remove background audio completely.

You can download the update now, if you haven’t already. Don’t expect the update to solve all the battery issues at once. It may take a couple of more updates for Facebook to completely be rid of bugs that are sucking all the juice.

  • Retractable Screen For iPhone That Act As Shock Absorbers During Falls

Retractable Screen For iPhone That Act As Shock Absorbers During Falls

One universal flaw iPhone users all over have had trouble dealing with is the delicateness of their devices. No one is new to cracked or out an out shattered screens of these Apple devices. However, the company might have finally managed to find a solution for this.

In a patent called ‘Active screen protection for electronic device‘, Apple is looking at solving the problem of fragile iPhone screens. The idea is to attach a retractable tab to the screen. If the device senses a fall, the tab would deploy outwards creating a gap between the screen and the surface, reducing impact, and therefore, damage to the device.iPhone Retractable Screen

Modern iOS devices have various components that are equipped with drop sensing technology. Apple has shown interest in the past as well for active fall protection but the required patented hardware is yet to be incorporated in the company’s lineup. The patent for active screen protection was first filed in April 2014, under Tyson B. Manullang, Stephen B. Lynch and Emery A. Sanford as its inventors.iPhone Retractable Screen1

In the meantime, Apple has been busy working on touch oriented technology like 3D Touch. Consequently, the new iPhones -6s and 6s Plus – come equipped with specialized Corning glass which provides support for this feature, while at the same time providing protection against scratches and breakage.

  • New iOS 9 Update Brings Tons of New Emojis, Live Photos Improvements

New iOS 9 Update Brings Tons of New Emojis, Live Photos Improvements

It’s about time you got an emoji that lets you ‘flip the bird’. Wait, let’s rephrase that. It’s about time you got some new ways to express while messaging. Apple has released it’s latest iOS 9.1 update that comes with two major features.

    IMG_0035

The first is related to Live Photos. Live Photos will now be able to sense when you move your hand higher or lower, and will ignore the movements.

The second new feature is a lot more exciting. The latest updates brings over 150 new emoji characters which include taco, burrito, cheese wedge, money eyes, and the middle finger. Yes, you read that right. There is now an emoji that lets you send a middle finger to anyone if you find yourself unable to express your feelings through the word.

There is a catch, though. The new emojis can be sent only to those who have updated to the iOS 9.1. So, non-iOS users and iOS users still on the older version will not know when you’re giving them the finger. Some would say there is a certain evil joy in that too.

    ios9 emoji

Apart from these changes, iOS 9.1 includes new features and compatibility updates for upcoming Apple products like the fourth-generation Apple TV and the iPad Pro. The new Apple TV requires iOS 9.1 for setting up. The new update also fixes a lot of bugs such as unresponsive Calendar, issues with Game Center and some issues with Mail search, among other things.

In case you haven’t already updated your iPhone to the new iOS 9.1 update, you can do so now. For those who don’t know how to get it done, simply head over to Setting > General > Software Updates and hit on ‘Download and Install’. You can also connect your device to the computer and update via iTunes. Once installed, play around with all the new emojis and show some love to your friends by sending them the finger.

  • Here’s How Facebook is Set to Kickstart Your Programming Career

Here’s How Facebook is Set to Kickstart Your Programming Career

Facebook initially started with the likes of Orkut and Twitter but has expanded its horizons further. Stepping out of the safety net of being the world’s largest social networking site, it has now gone a step further and introduced TechPrep. What’s that?

It is a new initiative with consulting mogul, McKinsey & Company that will help people by offering tutorials, tools and games to help kids kickstart their careers in Computer Programming. Sounds heavy, doesn’t it? But the whole point of this initiative is to reach out to children and parents all over who don’t have the resources to educate them in Programming.

    facebook

Congressperson Eddie Bernice Johnson, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, said in a statement.

“When so much of our present and our future is dependent on computer science and programming, we cannot afford to continue hemorrhaging so much talent. We must all work together to leverage our respective strengths and resources to tackle this issue.”

Facebook plans to concentrate on high populations of Black and Latino people who are either lower-income families or belong to generations of non-college or graduate parents.

Facebook Global Director of Diversity Maxine Williams stated in an interview with TechCrunch:

“What we see around coding and programming, is that there are some communities in which, because the parents’ capacity is not there, we’re losing whole generations of people who could be guided into these really lucrative, engaging, satisfying careers.”

In a country where we churn out ‘Techies’ ruthlessly, it might be strange to believe that TechPrep actually stemmed from a lack of ‘coloured’ people working in the field of computer sciences. Facebook itself as company consists of 55% white people. Therefore, they felt like if they themselves make computer programming accessible to a larger expanse of the American coloured population, they would actually be encouraging people to pick a lucrative career in this field, thereby increasing their workforce.

Screen Shot 2015-10-22 at 2.23.21 pm

We had previously told you why coding is important in today’s day and age. Facebook’s TechPrep just proved our stance.

So check it out, you might be Programming like a pro before you know it.
