Flipkart has entered into a partnership with the digital map data company, MapmyIndia. MaymyIndia (CE Info Systems Pvt. Ltd.) is known for its GPS navigation, tracking, location-based apps and GIS solutions.
The move is part of Flipkart’s efforts to improve the service chain with the help of technology. The company will use this business partnership to license map data and location technologies from MapmyIndia.
Binny Bansal, COO and Co-founder, Flipkart, commented on this, “With this strategic investment, we are taking another concrete step toward transforming the supply chain ecosystem in India, making technology and information the driver of our supply chain and logistics solutions. This partnership is a strategic fit that gives us a sustainable competitive advantage.”
Flipkart’s entry into a business partnership with MapmyIndia also means that the latter’s earlier investors, which include Nexus Venture Partners and Lightbox Ventures, will exit the company. Using Location intelligence capabilities across Flipkart’s logistics network is the primary aim of this partnership. It would also enable the company to introduce services like better Address Verification and real-time Shipment Tracking, among other things.
Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC) has emerged as India’s biggest online marketplace, beating out competition from Flipkart, Amazon and the like. IRCTC generated a revenue of two hundred and six billion rupees ($3 billion) in their last financial year solely based on online sales; this number is almost double Filpkart’s yearly turnover.
IRCTC had an increase in their turnover as compared to the previous year by 34%, and this has probably been due to the fact that the website has taken steps in order to upgrade their otherwise slow interface this year. This resulted in a record of taking 1.34 million ticket reservations in one day.
“Bulk of the sales may be attributed to IRCTC’s rapid growth in e-ticketing which has been due to its interface and setting up of a very robust process,” said Sandip Dutta, IRCTC’s Public Relations Officer.
This speed has also been upgraded to book 7,200 tickets per minute as compared to the earlier 2,000 tickets per minute. With all these upgrades the battle between the three online e-commerce websites – Amazon, Flipkart and IRCTC, seems to have its final result. However, since IRCTC isn’t really in direct competition with either of the two; they have tied up with Amazon India for the next two years as its preferred shopping partner. More power to you Indian Railways.
Micromax today launched a new smartphone, called Canvas Mega, that is priced at Rs. 8,320. The phone is available online and offline at select retailers. Micromax and Intex have been at loggerheads to claim the second top spot in the Indian market.

It also comes with the usual connectivity features that include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Micro USB 2.0 port. For a phone below Rs. 9000 the Canvas Mega isn’t the greatest device in the block.
The Coolpad Note 3, for example, is one f the better phones under Rs. 9000. It offers 3GB of RAM and 3,000mAh battery. The front and back cameras are similar to the Canvas Mega, but supposedly capture better photos.
Diwali is nearing and the shopping spirit is in the air. So those looking for a phone below the Rs. 9,000 range can add Micromax’s Canvas Mega to the list. The phone is listed on Flipkart currently with no information regarding the official launch.

Since the sale is happening exclusively on the Flipkart app, you will have to navigate through it to avail of any of the above offers.
The Nexus 5X and 6P had been revealed at the Google event held on the 29th of September, 2015. Both devices were announced to arrive with the new Android Marshmallow version along with many other upgraded specs. Today, we’ve come to know that the Nexus 6P will arrive in India, sooner than expected.
Flipkart has already put up a small teaser of the device, however this time it does not have a ticker that shows the pre-order date. But, what we do know is, that the device will be shipping for pre-ordered customers later this month so, we can expect the pre-order to begin in India around the same time. Reports also suggest that it could go on sale next month.
The Google Nexus 6P could be priced at Rs. 39,999 for the 32GB, Rs. 42,999 for the 64GB, and Rs. 47,999 for the 128GB variant. It also comes in three colour variants – Aluminium, Graphite and Frost White.
Flipkart has announced a social networking service called ‘Ping’ today. It is a part of the Flipkart app and is an initiative by the company to bring a social element to your e-commerce shopping experience.
How does it work? Ping essentially allows you to talk to your friends and family when you are shopping for a particular product. So now, the store experience will come alive, whether you’re buying a gift for your mother on her birthday and you need your dad’s opinion or if you’re simply contemplating on buying shoes that you’ve been eyeballing for a while.
Ping allows you to share photos, wish lists and the products in your cart so that you can show them off to your loved ones and get an opinion. It automatically adds your friends through your smartphones Phonebook too. All you have to do is send them a text inviting them to Ping and if they don’t already have the feature, they will be asked to install it.
Flipkart’s Chief Product Officer Punit Soni stated that Ping’s design was original but the deign and UI look pretty similar to Facebook messenger. This app has been optimised to suit India and the network problems our country faces. Hence, Ping is 2MB in size, consuming less data, battery and is compatible with any smartphone running on Android 2.1 and above.
For now though, Ping is available only between you and your friends. However, the chat will soon become available to sellers, customer service and stakeholders in the e-commerce chain. You’ll be able to chat with anyone you like then.
Right now Ping has been launched with an invite model which means that only those who have an invite will be able to use the service and will also be able to share 10 invites with their friends.
Whatever said and done, this feature seems to be a well thought out and a convenient one.

How long does it take to become a bestseller? As Lenovo found out, apparently 5.2 seconds. Seconds after the first online sale kicked off, the Lenovo K3 Note smartphone was sold out on Flipkart. Lenovo sold about 47,440 smartphones over 5, 38,096 registrations the company received for the first flash sale.
The next sale will be held on 15th July. Two versions of the phone – black as well as white – will be sold at 12 noon and 3pm respectively. Registrations are already open.
The K3 Note joins a long list of affordable 4G handsets provided by Lenovo, such as A6000, A7000 Plus and S60. The phone has Dual SIM card slots and supports both LTE bands in India. The phone sports a 3,000 mAh battery, which is replaceable. The K3 Note sports a 13 MP rear camera with Dual LED flash and a 5 MP front camera.
The specifications for the phone are reminiscent of the Xiaomi Mi4i, which is currently in demand and has a dedicated fan base. Like Mi4i, the K3 Note boasts a 5.5-inch full HD display. Also to that, the K3 Note costs less than the Mi4i.
Launched in India in late-June, the Lenovo K3 Note was first unveiled for China in March. It competes against the likes of budget contenders – Yu Yuphoria and Xiaomi Redmi Note. Yu Yureka and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G have ruled this price segment, but it looks like Lenovo is finally going for the kill with the K3 Note.
