  • Google And Huawei To Pay $400 To Each Nexus 6P Owner For Bootloop Issues

Google And Huawei To Pay $400 To Each Nexus 6P Owner For Bootloop Issues

Google released the last smartphones in the Nexus lineup, the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X in the year 2015. While the latter was made in collaboration with LG, the former was produced as a result of Google’s partnership with Huawei. Both the handsets, while offering a clean software and capable hardware had their fair share of problems. Among them, the most prevalent one was bootloop issues. This made the devices restart randomly regardless of the battery percentage and sometimes would get stuck in an infinite restart loop.

    Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P

A lawsuit filed in the year 2017 alleged the issue of the bootloops was known by the manufacturers and wasn’t fixed knowingly. As a result, Google and Huawei have been directed by the court to pay $9.75 million as a settlement fee to the owners of the Nexus 6P. This results in payments of up to US$400 (Rs. 27,600) for participating plaintiffs.

    About The Case

In a lawsuit filed in April 2017 by owners of the Nexus 6P who claimed Google and Huawei breached the warranty on the smartphone. It further stated the companies were fully aware of the issue but failed to fully respond to it and continued to sell the device. While the settlement has been directed, it is expected to be approved at the next court hearing, scheduled to take place on May 9. Notably, the amount will be available for owners who purchased the Nexus 6P after September 25, 2015.

Furthermore, the users of the Nexus 6P smartphone who weren’t part of the lawsuit may still be eligible for a settlement amount. They would need to submit proper documentation of the issues and will get at least US$ 10 (Rs. 700), leading to a maximum amount of US$ 75 (Rs. 5,200). Interestingly, a similar lawsuit was filed against LG for bootloop issues in its G4, V10, V20, Nexus 5X and G5 smartphones, wherein it was directed to pay US$ 425 (Rs. 29,400) per owner or US$ 700 (Rs. 48,400) in discounts.

  • Google Ends Software Support For Nexus 5X, 6P

Google Ends Software Support For Nexus 5X, 6P

Google released the first developer version of the Android P, which will be the successor of Android 8 Oreo. However, less than 1.5% of Android phones run on Android 8 Oreo right now. To improve this, Google introduced Project Treble which enables the faster Android updates, without interfering with the OEM.

Google follows the 2 years update policy, where the smartphones and tablets will receive two major OS upgrades. However, this changed with the launch of the Pixel series of smartphones. To keep up with Apple (which offers four major OS upgrades), the Pixel devices will receive three major OS upgrades. Similarly, the Pixel will update to Android P and Android Q and the Pixel 2 will also be updated to Android R.Android P

However, this is not applicable to the Pixel C tablet, Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P. These devices have received two major software update and they are no more eligible to receive Android P. However, all three devices are eligible to receive monthly security updates until September 2018.

As these devices are very popular amongst the developers, the devices might receive unofficial build of Android P via third-party developers. Android P

    Android P Features

The Android P is expected to overhaul the user interface completely. In fact, the biggest change is the native support for the infamous notch. In fact, one can test these features by installing the developer version on a supported device.

The dock in Android P will also look like a dock now. The four app icons along with the Google Search bar will have a cloudy background, distinguishing it from the rest of the screen. A microphone icon has been added to the Google Search bar to access Google Assistant or do a quick voice search. The volume slider has been moved to the side of the screen and shrunk in size.

Another feature added is something that has been there in custom skins for a while. A user can now take a screen from the power menu, that pops up by long pressing the lock/unlock button. This will come in handy during one handed usage. Visually, there are not many changes in the first developer preview of Android P. However, this can change by the time the official version rolls out. Google might introduce a few visual changes or keep it the way it is. Time will tell.

  • Android 8.1 Oreo Running Pixel And Nexus Devices Have Lock Screen Swiping Bug

Android 8.1 Oreo Running Pixel And Nexus Devices Have Lock Screen Swiping Bug

Android 8.1 Oreo started rolling out to Google Pixel and select Nexus device back in early-December 2017. There have been reports of Pixel and Nexus users facing issues with the lock screen on their devices.

Apparently, aggrieved users are unable to swipe on the lock screen of Pixel and Nexus devices that received an update to Android 8.1 Oreo. Users took to Pixel User Community forums and expressed their problems they are facing with their respective devices. Due to the issue preventing users to make swipe actions on the display, users haven’t been able to pick up incoming calls, unlock the screen, among other problems that are related to swipe actions.

While Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners have had their fair share of hardware and software issues, Nexus devices are facing such software issues for the first time, since Android 8 Oreo has been smooth and more or less bug-free on other devices.

Google appears to be aware of the issue as Orrin, a community manager at the Pixel User Community has stated that he’s ‘looking into that swipe issues that have been reported’. Google seems to be in a race against time to release new software updates that fix a plethora of issues reported by Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users.

Recently, soon after the Android 8.1 Oreo update, some Pixel 2 XL owners complained that they had to manually wake up the device during an incoming call. Something as basic as this is even available in a feature phone and should not be an issue for consumers who pay so much of money for a Pixel 2 XL device.

With 2018, Google would want to leave the hardware issues behind and work on its Pixel 3 devices which would need to be much better than their predecessors to achieve any amount of success in the market.

  • Huawei Teases Their Upcoming Device Showcasing a Swiveling Camera

Huawei Teases Their Upcoming Device Showcasing a Swiveling Camera

Huawei released a teaser of their upcoming phone, revealing a camera that flips back to front. Therefore, this phone will take high quality pictures and selfies just like the Oppo N1, which offers a camera that swivels around, allowing the user to take selfies with its 13MP camera.

    Huawei Teaser

This teaser was posted bu Huawei’s Portugal division, however, there are no further reports on this phone. The company has been doing well globally, with reports stating that it had the largest gain in the global smartphone market share between July to September 2015.

Huawei released its first stock Android handset with Nexus 6P and has recently introduced the Huawei Mate 8 which is expected to arrive with the new Kirin 950 chipset.

  • Nexus 6P Users Complain of Poor Microphone Quality During Calls

Nexus 6P Users Complain of Poor Microphone Quality During Calls

Seems like Apple is not the only company with its fair share of problems. Google makes sure its tech competitor never feels left out, even when it comes to running into controversies with their latest gadgets.

JerryRigEverything.com put the Nexus 6P through a series of tests few weeks ago. These tests included heat test and checking the bending capabilities of the phone. Even though the phone is otherwise a sturdy device, it has a hardware flaw which meant -the phone snapped into two when it was tested for bending.Huawei Nexus 6P 25

However, twisting your phone at unnatural angles is not something most users are likely to do. So this whole ‘bend-gate’ issue a second time over with a flagship could be simply overlooked, right? And all was well in the Nexus 6P paradise one more time…until new issues emerged.

Users are now complaining of poor sound quality during phone calls. The person on the other side is unable to hear them properly. Other than standard phone calls, this is also happening during VoIP calls, like Hangouts.

The poor microphone quality has been experienced by users in both the speaker as well as the ear-piece mode. People have taken to Google forums and reddit to talk about it. Google is currently looking into the problem.

If you have used a Nexus 6P, did you face the same, or any other problem, as well? Let us know in the comments below.

    Nexus 6P | Hands On

Google’s Nexus 6P has officially launched in India today. The company had sent out invites for the event starting at 11 am. The Huawei-made Nexus 6P and the LG-made Nexus 5X released ahead of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus launch that is set to hit the markets on the 16th.

The Nexus 6P will be made available exclusively for Flipkart. Pre-orders for the phones will start tonight and the devices will begin shipping from October 21. Those who pre-order the Nexus 6P will get a Chromecast dongle worth Rs. 2,999 from Flipkart. The devices can also be purchased later on from select offline retailers such as Croma, The Mobile Store, among others.

The Nexus 6P is priced at Rs. 39,999 for the 32GB, Rs. 42,999 for the 64GB, and Rs. 47,999 for the 128GB variant. The 6P features a 5.7-inch QHD touchscreen, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset, with 3 GB RAM, a 3450mAh battery, and a USB Type-C port. This pure Android phone will run on the latest Marshmallow operating system.

    Huawei Nexus 6P 21

Our initial reactions towards the 6P were quite favorable. One of the main highlights of the Nexus 6P is the Nexus Imprint. The fingerprint sensor on the back is fast and fluid in accessibility, which according to Google only “gets better over time” as it learns more about your unique fingerprint. Another major improvement is the camera. The 12MP rear camera takes crisp and clear pictures even in low light due to the 1.55 micron pixels, which is greater than the iPhone 6s Plus.

    Huawei Nexus 6P 26

Compared to the Nexus 5X, the 6P has a more premium look to it. It has a full-metal body, built out of aluminium with diamond chamfers around the edges. The metallic finish of the body is smooth and feels comfortable in your hand, but is heavier than the Nexus 5X, which comes with a plastic body. One concern that arose regarding the leaked images of the Nexus 6P was just how much the black camera bar on the top would put off users. However, on using the Nexus 6P, the bar seemed like a welcomed change and does not stick out as much as one would think.

    Huawei Nexus 6P 11

The Nexus 6P is on the expensive side, but some improvements especially on the camera front make it worth buying if you’re looking at the market for premium handsets. As mentioned, the Nexus 6P will be available for pre-order tonight on Flipkart.

Leak Confirms Huawei Nexus 6P Will Be the First All-Metal Nexus Flagship

With only a day to go before the reveal of Google’s Nexus smartphones, the leaks continue. We just did a roundup of everything we know of the Google event so far with some rumored specs for each of the flagship phones. Now we have more to tell. Imgur recently leaked images of a Nexus 6P presentation which basically confirms everything we know and a little bit more.

    Nexus 6P

The slides discuss everything from design to specs, and one of the specs that caught our eyes in particular is the massive battery that’s fit into the Nexus 6P. The smartphone will come with a 3450mAh battery that should last you a pretty long time. Clearly, Google has been focusing on battery life this time around. For a little perspective we would also like to point out that the other recent phablets such as the Samsung Note 5 and the iPhone 6s Plus come with a battery of 3,000mAh and 2,750mAh, respectively. Other slides focus on camera, features of Android Marshmallow, and fingerprint sensor.

Other features that are revealed show that the phone will feature a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, a 2560 x 1440 display, a Snapdragon 810 processor, and USB-C. Everything You Can Expect Google’s Upcoming Nexus Event

Here’s some exciting news for today – Google has an event on the 29th of September 2015 where they will be releasing the new Nexus phones along with revealing more details about Android Marshmallow.  Google will reportedly reveal the new Chromecast and a partnership with Spotify.

Here are a few details about what we know about the upcoming products so far via public reports and rumours.

    Nexus 5X

Firstly, the LG Nexus 5X is expected to come with a bigger 5.2 inch display and a 1080p resolution. The second feature that has been suggested by leaked images, is a support for fingerprint scanners. On the camera front, the Nexus 5X seems to provide a protruding camera, however it is one that will have an increased 13MP sensor. Apart from that, there could also be a 5MP front camera. This handset is rumoured to be powered by the Snapdragon 808 processor with a 2 or 3 GB RAM along with storage options that are expected to be 16GB and 32GB. The smartphone might also come with a USB Type-C.

    Nexus 6P

The next device which is the Huawei Nexus 6P will come with a new design, if reports are to be believed. The leaked images show a rectangular frame with curved edges and a flat metal pack, and is expected to come in four colour variants of silver, black, white and gold. The phone will also come with a new fingerprint scanner but a smaller display of an estimate 5.7 inches. The Nexus 6P could be powered by Snapdragon 810 and can come with a 3GB RAM. The storage of this device is expected to start at 32GB and go all the way up to 128GB. However, the camera seems to be lower in quality with an 11MP sensor at the rear but a rather impressive 7MP on the front.

    Android Marshmallow

The other exciting thing that is going to be announced at the event is the launching of Android Marshmallow. Google is expected to give us a date for the release of this version. Let’s see whether Google has anything else to add apart from what we know.

    Chromecast Second Gen & Audio

Google is also expected to release two new chromecast devices – the second gen chromecast and the chromecast audio. The new Chromecast second gen is expected to come with a new rounder looking design, thereby doing away with the whole ‘dongle’ look. Other upgrades include faster WiFi and something called Fast Play. The Chromecast Audio, on the other hand, supports every feature that a music lover might need, like podcasts, radio, and a multi-room audio. This device is also rumoured to partner with Spotify and thereby enhancing its features.
