  • Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro To Launch In Late-2018

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro To Launch In Late-2018

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is one of the most popular budget smartphones in India right now. The fact that it first launched in India before any other country made it an even sweeter deal for many users. With the success of this Pro device, Xiaomi appears to be already working on a new smartphone with this moniker and could launch it in late-2018. Apart from the Redmi 6 Pro, the existence of the Mi Max 3 and Mi Pad 4 has also been confirmed.

A new report claims that references to all the three devices were found on the Mi China website. This means that these smartphones will launch in China before anywhere else in the world. While the Redmi Note 5 Pro was an India-first device, it seems unlikely that Xiaomi will continue this trend.

Recently, a Xiaomi smartphone with a notched display was leaked on TENNA. While it was initially expected to the Redmi 6 Plus, it now appears to be the Redmi 6 Pro. Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi 6 and 6A while there were no traces of a Redmi 6 Plus being launched in the near future. While the design is plausible, we hope Xiaomi fixes the colour of the bezels and notch and go with a black colour instead.

The Redmi 6 Pro could have a 5.84 inch display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. This translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio which is common for smartphones with a notch.

    [amazon_link asins=’B07CJYMDNQ’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’igyaan-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’e350f7b1-707c-11e8-af31-ebdc419c195f’]

The listing mentions that the device will run on an octa-core 2.0GHz processor which could well be the Snapdragon 660 SoC. The Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is expected to be available in three configurations, 2GB RAM/16GB storage, 3GB RAM/32GB storage, and 4GB RAM/64GB storage. Like the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the 6 Pro is also expected to offer expandable storage via microSD card.

On the back of the smartphone will be a dual-camera setup. The listing mentions a 12MP primary sensor and 5MP secondary sensor. This is the exact configuration found on the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Xiaomi would probably improve the quality of the sensors and add a few software features as well. Powering the Redmi 6 Pro will be a 4000 mAh battery. Hopefully, with the 6 Pro, we will see the inclusion of a USB Type C port.

    Mi Max 2

The Mi Max 3 has been in the news for quite a while now. Xiaomi is one of the few companies that still makes phablets. The Mi Max 3 will succeed the Mi Max 2 and is expected to launch in July. Just like the recently launched Mi 8 SE, the Mi Max 3 is expected to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset. This could be coupled with 6GB of RAM and up to 64GB of onboard storage.

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 will be one of the few exciting Android-running tablets to launch in 2018. Xiaomi has not given up on tablets yet and the Mi Pad 4 could launch soon as well. Recent leaks suggest the Mi Pad 4 will run on Snapdragon 660 chipset and sport an 18:9 aspect ratio. If true, this will be a headline-grabber as well since no other tablets with this aspect ratio have launched so far.

The list of smartphones that Xiaomi could launch is exciting. At the end of the day, these are leaks and a lot can happen by the time these smartphones are launched.

  • Xiaomi Redmi S2 With 18:9 Aspect Ratio, 16MP Front Camera Launched

Xiaomi Redmi S2 With 18:9 Aspect Ratio, 16MP Front Camera Launched

Xiaomi has launched a yet another budget smartphone in China, the Xiaomi Redmi S2. The smartphone from Xiaomi will be available in two variants, one with 3GB RAM/32GB storage and the other with 4GB RAM/64GB storage. The base model is priced at RMB 999(Rs 10500 approx.) and the other one is priced at RMB 1,299 (Rs 13800 approx.).

There have been rumours that the Xiaomi Redmi S2 might launch in India as an Android One smartphone. The Mi 6X could launch as the Mi A2 while the Redmi S2 will be a more affordable offering from Xiaomi, both running stock Android OS. However, these are all speculations so far and nothing can be said for certain.

    Redmi Note 5 Pro

The Redmi S2 takes a lot of design cues from other Xiaomi smartphones launched in 2018. It has the same vertically place dual-camera setup found on the Mi MIX 2s and Redmi Note 5 Pro. The aluminium unibody design is also familiar along with a circular fingerprint sensor placed on the back of the smartphone.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 has a 5.99 inch IPS LCD display with a 1440 x 720 px resolution. This translates into an 18:9 aspect ratio which has become the norm for even budget smartphones.

Under the hood, the Redmi S2 runs on the Snapdragon 625 chipset, a tried and tested SoC for Xiaomi. That chipset is coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM along with either 32GB or 64GB of storage which is expandable via a microSD card. Powering the device is a 3080 mAh battery, which will charge via a micro USB port.

    Mi MIX 2s

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 runs Android 8 Oreo out of the box with MIUI 9 on top.

To the back of the smartphone will be a 12MP primary sensor along with a 5MP depth sensor. To the front is a 16MP AI-powered camera which is capable of clicking portrait mode selfies using just the software.

The Redmi S2 appears to be another impressive budget smartphone from Xiaomi’s sub-brand. It will be interesting to see if Xiaomi decides to launch the Redmi S2 in India as an Android One smartphone. If priced at under Rs 10,000 the device could be a great contender against the likes of Honor 9 Lite.

  • Use Your Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro As A Wi-Fi Booster with Wi-Fi Hotspot

Use Your Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro As A Wi-Fi Booster with Wi-Fi Hotspot

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched in India on the 14th of February. At the time of its launch, the smartphone received great reviews and many hailed it as the best budget smartphone currently. Over the course of time, devices like the Asus Zenfone Max Pro have launched in India at a competitive price and similar specifications. The Redmi Note 5 Pro, however, hasn’t seized to amaze us as we recently discovered that the smartphone has Wi-Fi repeater.

Usually, smartphones use the 4G/3G mobile data to make a Wi-Fi hotspot but, with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the same can be done using a Wi-Fi connection. For this, ensure that your smartphone is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Once connected, head to the settings menu and click on Personal Hotspot and enable the Wifi Hotspot. Once enabled, the smartphone will then use the Wi-Fi connection to create a hotspot. Users can share the password of their hotspot with other people to access the Wi-Fi without requiring a password for the main router’s Wi-Fi.

This feature can also help you get a slightly better signal as the phone can be used as a temporary network booster. Do note however, speeds are not extremely impressive and it dumbed down a 100 Mbps connection to just 7 Mbps when routed though the Red Note 5 pro. This however may not be a problem for those looking for a quick guest network or a wifi boost.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Overview

The Note 5 Pro has a 5.99-inch display with a 2160 x 1080px resolution which translates to an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset and an Adreno 509 GPU to handle the graphics. The Redmi Note 5 Pro will be available in two variants,  4GB RAM/64GB storage and 6GB RAM/64GB storage. The 6GB RAM variant is a great prospect for users who multitask a lot.

The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back of the phone and it has an aluminium unibody build, similar to the Redmi Note 5. Out of the box, the Redmi Note 5 Pro will also run Android 7 Nougat with MIUI 9 on top.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro will also have the infamous Face Unlock feature. It won’t be available out of the box but, will be introduced via an OTA update in March.

    Redmi Note 5 Pro

The Redmi Note 5 Pro has focussed a lot on the front camera. It has a 20MP Sony IMX376 camera on the front with an LED light. Unlike the Redmi Note 5, it has Beautify 4.0 software which will result in better portrait mode photos, the company claims. To the back of the smartphone is a vertically place dual-camera setup. It is a 12MP colour sensor f/2.2 and 5MP f/2.0 colour sensor setup. The smartphone will click portrait mode photos from the front and rear cameras.

This new feature unearthed can come in handy in a lot of situations. Have you found any interesting feature in your Redmi Note 5 Pro? Let us know in the comments!

  • Xiaomi Could Launch 2 Android One Devices In India

Xiaomi Could Launch 2 Android One Devices In India

On September 5th, 2017, Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 in India. It was the first-ever Xiaomi smartphone to run stock Android OS and so far, it is the only one. On 25th April, Xiaomi launched the Mi 6X in China, which is highly anticipated to succeed the Mi A1 in India. That is mainly due to the fact that the Mi A1 was nothing but a rebranded Mi 5X. Hence, a similar move is expected from Xiaomi this year as well. However, it appears that Xiaomi might be planning something else for its stock Android loving Indian consumers. New firmware files obtained by XDA Developers reveal that the company might launch two Android One smartphones in India.

    Xiaomi Mi A1

Along with a Mi series Android One device, Xiaomi is expected to launch a Redmi smartphone running stock Android OS as well. CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun hinted at this possibility last week:

Yes, we plan to have more Android One devices. Some of our users in India seem to like stock Android, and we are willing to bring in more devices with Android One including the Redmi series.

Now, the the firmware files of a device codenamed “daisy-sprout” were accessed. It is worth noting that the “sprout” was the codename for the first generation Android One devices. This Redmi Android One smartphone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, the same SoC found in the Xiaomi Mi A1. However, considering this will be a Redmi device, it will be marketed as a budget smartphone.

This is all the more interesting considering the Redmi S2 will soon launch in China. It is extremely likely that the Redmi S2 might be rebranded as an Android One device for India. If true, we can expect this Redmi Android One smartphone to be launched under Rs 10,000 in India.

    Mi 6X

The next set of files retrieved are of a device codenamed “jasmine_sprout.” The codename of the Mi A1 was “tissot_sprout” where “sprout” signifies Android One. According to the report, the Mi A1 successor will be based on the recently launched Mi 6X but, whether it will be a rebranded Mi 6X or not can not be confirmed right now.

Certain similarities between the mystery ‘Mi’ series Android One device and Mi 6X have been found. For starters, the “jasmine_sprout” will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, the same chipset found in the Mi 6X. Also, the Mi 6X and the Android One smartphone will have the same front-facing 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor.

These files certainly point towards a Xiaomi strategy that wants to build on the success of the Mi A1 in India. It does make sense for Xiaomi to launch a more affordable Android One device considering how price sensitive the Indian market is. Having two solid offerings under Rs 10000 and Rs 15000 running stock Android OS could be a game changer for the Chinese smartphone maker.

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Now Available Via Open Sale

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Now Available Via Open Sale

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 was launched on the 14th of February as the successor to Xiaomi’s most successful smartphone in India, the Redmi Note 4. Before the launch, a lot of new upgrades were anticipated for the Redmi Note 5 but, that did not happen. Apart from that, another aspect of the Redmi Note 5 that has been criticised its flash sales. However, Xiaomi has now fixed that, at least for the Redmi Note 5. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is available via open sale on Flipkart and mi.com.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro, which was launched along with the Redmi Note 5 is still only available to buy via flash sales. The Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first smartphone to run on the Snapdragon 636 chipset and is arguably the most famous budget smartphone in India. In our review of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, we iterate that this should have been the successor to the Redmi Note 4 and not the Redmi Note 5. It will be interesting to note the rise in popularity of the Redmi Note 5 Pro once Xiaomi ends the flash sales and makes it available via open sales just like the Redmi Note 5.

    Redmi Note 5 Pro
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5: The Unlikely Successor

It has a 5.99-inch display with a 2160 x 1080px resolution which translates to an 18:9 aspect ratio. This is one of the biggest changes in the Redmi Note series. Xiaomi has departed from the archaic 16:9 aspect ratio and moved on to the modern design and kept up with the industry trends.

Under the hood, the Redmi 5 Plus has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, 2.0GHz octa-core processor, Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage which will be expandable via microSD card. The fingerprint sensor sits at the back of the device which has become a Redmi signature irrespective of thin or thick bezels.

The Redmi Note 5 Plus is powered by a massive 4000 mAh battery which, according to Xiaomi, has a standby time of up to 17 days. The device has a micro USB port for charging and data syncing along with a 3.5mm headphone jack. One industry trend that Xiaomi avoided was the removal of the headphone jack despite omitting it in its premium Mi Mix 2. The device has a 12MP primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP secondary camera with beautify 3.0 software.

One of the main reasons why Xiaomi is doing this is the lack of sales. The fact that the Redmi Note 5 is now readily available could persuade a few consumers to not wait for the Redmi Note 5 Pro and instead buy the Redmi Note 5. It will be interesting to see if Xiaomi makes its two hot sellers, the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Mi TV 4 also available on open sales in the coming weeks. For the Redmi Note 5 Pro, it might be even more crucial after Asus launches the Zenfone Max Pro on April 23rd. The Zenfone Max Pro will also run on the Snapdragon 636 chipset and will, in all probability, available in open sale from the beginning.

Under the hood, the Redmi S2 could run on the Snapdragon 625 chipset. If true, this will be an interesting move by Xiaomi since the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 5 also run on the same chipset. The Snapdragon 625 chipset will be coupled with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage. The fingerprint sensor will be placed on the back of the smartphone just like every other Xiaomi smartphone.

    Redmi Note 5

Powering the device will be a 3080 mAh battery which should be enough to power an HD display.

In the camera department is where the Redmi S2 could have a lot to offer. To the back of the smartphone will be a dual-camera setup with a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. However, it is not yet confirmed if the primary lens will be an IMX486 or an OmniVision OV12A10 sensor. Interestingly, the Redmi S2 will also have EIS and Face Unlock along with the regular portrait mode. On the front will be a 5MP Samsung S5K5E8 sensor.

    Mi MIX 2s
