  • Honor 7A Vs Xiaomi Redmi 5: The Best Under Rs 10000?

Honor 7A Vs Xiaomi Redmi 5: The Best Under Rs 10000?

Xiaomi has been on a roll since the turn of the year. The company has constantly launched either a budget or a flagship device in China and other markets like India. Honor, as well, has launched a few impressive budget smartphones in India in the past few months. The Honor 7X was a great device and so was the Honor 9 Lite. The company recently launched the Honor 7A and Honor 7C in India.

The Honor 7A is the more affordable of the two and is priced at Rs 8999 (3GB RAM) in India. The Xiaomi Redmi 5, even though starts at a price of Rs 7999, is priced at Rs 8999 for the 3GB RAM variant. While the Honor 7A is available via Flipkart and HiHonor.com, the Redmi 5 retails via Amazon and Mi.com Both the smartphones, unlike some of their more expensive counterparts, are readily available and users don’t have to wait for flash sales.

    [amazon_link asins=’B077PWBC7J’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’igyaan-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’36aaa1a1-6fc6-11e8-87f4-8de3dcd7228d’]

While both the smartphones sport an 18:9 aspect ratio, the bezels are thicker on both the devices compared to some premium devices. However, a screen-to-body ratio of over 75% for both the smartphones is a respectable number. The Honor 7A sports a 5.7 inch IPS LCD display with a 1440 x 720 px and a 2.5 D curved glass for protection. The Redmi 5 also has a 5.7 inch IPS LCD 1440 x 720 px display.

The main differentiating factor between the two smartphones is on the back. The Redmi 5 has a 12MP camera at the back with 1.25-micron pixel size and an f/2.2 aperture. The Honor 7A, on the other hand, has a dual-camera setup with a 13MP RGB sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. The main sensor helps the smartphone to capture the picture and the secondary sensor adds the depth effect. While the Honor 7A is priced only Rs 1000 higher than the Redmi 5, it does offer better camera specifications thanks to the presence of a dual-camera setup. To the front of the Redmi 5 is a 5MP camera while the Honor 7A has an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and an LED flash.

The Redmi 5 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset while the Honor 7A runs on the Snapdragon 430 SoC. The Honor 7A is only available in one variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage while the Redmi 5 has 2GB, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage. Both the smartphones offer storage expandability, although the Honor 7A has a dedicated microSD card slot while the Redmi 5 has a hybrid microSD card slot. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back of both the devices.

Let’s now compare the specifications of both the smartphones. For a level playing field, we’re comparing the 3GB RAM model of the Redmi 5 with the Honor 7A since both the smartphones are priced exactly the same.

  • Honor Play Gaming Smartphone Running On Kirin 970 Launched

Honor Play Gaming Smartphone Running On Kirin 970 Launched

Gaming smartphones are gaining popularity by the day. After Razer, Nubia, Black Shark and Asus, Honor has launched its own gaming smartphone. After weeks of leaks, the Honor Play is now official and will be available in China exclusively for now. One of the highlights of this gaming smartphone is its pricing and should give other gaming Android devices a run for their money. The base model with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at CNY 1999 (Rs 21000 approx.) and the 6GB RAM model will retail for CNY 2399 (Rs 25000 approx.).

The Honor Play takes design cues from the likes of Honor 10. It follows the notch trend but, unlike the Mi 8, it has a narrower notch which can be hidden using software. The all-glass design with an aluminium frame is something we have seen already in devices like the Honor 10 and Huawei P20 Pro. The Honor Play is no different here. There is a special edition Honor Play with a textured back and two colour options which will be retail for CNY 2499 (Rs 26100 approx.).

The Honor Play has a 6.3 inch IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. Like the Honor 10, this translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio which will come in handy when users hide the notch. Once the notch is hidden, the display will revert to a more traditional 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the device runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC with a dedicated NPU for AI capabilities. This is the same SoC that powers the Huawei P20 Pro, which is priced at Rs 64999 in India. Honor claims that its new GPU Turbo technology not only improves the performance of the device but, runs games twice as stable as the Xiaomi Mi 8. This can only be tested once we get our hands on the device. Coupled with the flagship chipset is either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The storage is expandable via microSD card.

The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back of the smartphone at a central and ergonomic location. Powering the Honor Play is a 3750 mAh battery which, according to Honor, will last up to 1.5 days even after heavy usage. Again, we will test this once we get our hands on the device and won’t vouch for any claims the company makes. The Lenovo Z5 has taught us an important lesson here.

To the back is a 16MP primary RGB sensor mated with a 2MP depth sensor. The depth sensor will enable bokeh effect and portrait mode shots. The notch houses a 16MP camera with AI capabilities such as portrait lighting, like the iPhone X and Huawei P20 Pro.

At this price point, the Honor Play, at least on paper, looks like an impressive device. There is no information about whether Honor will make the Honor Play available in other markets like India.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 5 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, 2.0GHz octa-core processor, Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage which will be expandable via microSD card.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch 1440 x 720 px display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. However, the bezels are still very visible, especially in the Gold colour variant.

Under the hood, the Redmi 5 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset, a 1.8GHz octa-core processor, Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage which will be expandable via microSD card. Powering the device is a 3300 mAh battery which, Xioami claims has a standby time of up to 12 days.

The Redmi 5 has a 12MP camera at the back with 1.25-micron pixel size. The camera surprisingly only records 1080P videos at 30fps. To the front of the device is a 5MP camera with Beautify 3.0, which is Xiaomi’s software for enhanced selfies.

  • Honor Play 7 With 18:9 Aspect Ratio Launched

Honor Play 7 With 18:9 Aspect Ratio Launched

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has had a good start to 2018. The Honor 9 Lite is still one of the best budget smartphones in India and the recently launched Honor 10 looks impressive as well. The company has continuously launched several budget smartphones in the Chinese market that follow the Honor 7X design language. The new Honor Play 7 is another budget device from the company which looks a lot like the Honor 7X.

The Honor 7 Play is only available in one variant and is priced at CNY 599 (Rs 6400 approx.). There are no details about the smartphone’s availability in India. The Honor 7A and 7C, on the other hand, will be unveiled next week and will be sold exclusively via Flipkart. Unlike a lot of Honor smartphones, the Honor Play 7 runs on a MediaTek chipset rather than a budget Kirin chip.

    Honor 7X

It has a 5.45-inch IPS LCD display with a 1440 x 720 px resolution. This translates into an 18:9 aspect ratio and the device has thin bezels around the display, very similar to the Honor 7X or the Honor 9 Lite.

Under the hood, the Honor Play 7 runs on the MediaTek MT6739 chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. The onboard storage can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. The fingerprint sensor is missing on the Honor Play 7, which is disappointing since a lot of budget smartphones these days always feature a fingerprint sensor.

Powering the smartphone is a 3020 mAh battery which charges via a micro USB port. For a Full HD+ display resolution, this battery, in theory at least, should suffice for a day. To the front of the smartphone is a 24MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a soft LED flash. The back of the Honor Play 7 features a 13MP CMOS sensor with a dual-tone LED flash and 4X digital zoom.

    Honor 9 Lite

The budget smartphone looks like it’ll remain a China-exclusive for now. The Honor 7A and Honor 7C will launch in India soon as the company plans to expand its budget smartphone portfolio.

  • OnePlus 6 Vs Honor 10

    OnePlus 6 Vs Honor 10

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 6 in India at a starting price of Rs 34999. The base model has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. One day before the OnePlus 6 launch, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor launched the Honor 10 at a price of Rs 32999. Both the smartphones have flagship specifications and interesting design language. Both the devices also have a notch, however, the OnePlus 6 has a thinner chin while the Honor 10 has a thick chin but, also features a front-facing ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

The OnePlus 6 has a bigger display and a smaller notch along with an all-glass design. Both the smartphones are powered by different flagship chipsets. The OnePlus 6 runs on the Snapdragon 845 chipset while the Honor 10 runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 970. The Honor 10 will be available in only one variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The OnePlus 6 will be available in two variants, in the beginning, one with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage while the other one will have 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Unboxing The Honor 10

Honor has launched the Honor 10 at an event in London. The Honor 10 will be available in two variants. The Honor 10 will be available in only one variant in India. The smartphone will have 6GB RAM and 128GB storage and will be priced at Rs 32999. The Honor 10 will be available via Flipkart exclusively.

Succeeding the popular Honor 9, the Honor 10 has flagship specifications and an all-glass design. The smartphone also features a notch on the display like a lot of other modern-day Android smartphones. The colour variants are also very interesting with the Honor 10. Two of the colour variants have a dual-tone colour of blue and pink and in the images at least, looks pretty fantastic. The fingerprint reader like expected is not embedded inside the display, instead, it is an invisible ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that can also detect a wet finger.

The Honor 10 takes a lot of design cues from the Huawei P20 Pro. The notch on the display is the same size as the P20 Pro and the all-glass design is reminiscent of the Huawei flagship smartphone. Right off the bat, you’ll realise that this a slippery phone thanks to its build quality. The glass finish means that the back of the device is also a fingerprint sensor. It is best adviced to either use a case or a skin for a better grip.

The front of the smartphone is dominated by the 5.84 inch IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. The notch can be hidden using software which will turn the display into an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Running everything under the hood is the company’s own flagship SoC, the HiSilicon Kirin 970. That is coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The flagship chipset can handle anything you throw at it and day-to-day usage is a breeze. The Honor 10 runs a highly customised version of Android 8.1 Oreo. For users who crave an app drawer and stock Android, there is always the Pixel Launcher.

Powering the smartphone is a 3400 mAh battery which charges via a USB C port. It is worth noting that despite having a glass back, the smartphone does not support wireless charging. It is SuperCharge compatible which should charge the phone faster than usual.

Honor has also touted AI capabilities of the Honor 10. AI seems to have become a very marketable term for smartphone makers these days. According to Honor, AI 2.0 can detect dynamic pictures more accurately. The phone’s AI 2.0 can also process Prisma-like image effects twice as fast as the iPhone X.

The smartphone has a dual-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 16MP RGB sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 24MP Monochrome sensor. The rear cameras record 4K videos at 30fps. The notch on the display, along with the sensors and an earpiece, also houses a 24MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture. The front-camera only records 1080P videos at 30fps.

The Honor 10 has a 5.84 inch IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. The 19:9 aspect ratio will come in handy when users decide to hide the notch, forcing the display into a conventional 18:9 aspect ratio.

The new flagship smartphone runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset, the same chipset found on the Huawei P20 Pro. The chipset is coupled with 6GB of RAM with 128GB of non-user expandable storage. There is a dual SIM slot but, no space for a microSD card. However, 128GB storage should suffice for most people, if not 64GB. Powering the smartphone is a 3400 mAh battery with SuperCharge compatibility.

Honor also claims that the Honor 10’s dual-camera setup has a lot of AI capabilities. The company is betting big on the device’s AI capabilities, which Honor is calling “AI 2.0.” According to Honor, AI 2.0 can detect dynamic pictures more accurately. But, at least it is all official now and we have the official pricing of the smartphone as well. The Honor 10 will be available in two variants in China. The 6GB RAM/64GB storage will retail for CNY 2599 (Rs 27,200 approx.) and the 6GB RAM/128GB storage will be priced at CNY 2999 (Rs 31,400 approx.).

Two striking features of the smartphone are all about its design and the look. The first thing you notice about the smartphone is the notch on the display, which resembles the Huawei P20 series of smartphones. Unlike the iPhone X which has a lot of tech stuffed into that notch, the Honor 10 just houses a camera, earpiece and the necessary sensors.

    Honor 10

Another exciting aspect of the Honor 10 is the colour variant. The smartphone has a dual-tone colour of blue and pink and in the images at least, looks pretty fantastic. The fingerprint reader like expected is not embedded inside the display, instead, it is an invisible ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that can also detect a wet finger. It is also front-facing since it is housed inside the chin of the smartphone.

Honor also claims that the Honor 10’s dual-camera setup has a lot of AI capabilities. The company is betting big on the device’s AI capabilities, which Honor is calling “AI 2.0.” According to Honor, AI 2.0 can detect dynamic pictures more accurately. The phone’s AI 2.0 can also process Prisma-like image effects twice as fast as the iPhone X.

    Honor 10

The Honor 10 looks like an impressive smartphone with its top of the line specifications and a few interesting features. Whether this smartphone will hit the Indian shores is a completely different question since as of now, there are no details of that happening.

Honor 10 Leaked In Stunning Twilight Colour Along With Other Colour Variants

Huawei’s sub-brand, Honor launched has launched three very strong smartphones in India in the last few months. The Honor 7X, Honor View10 and the Honor 9 Lite have been very well received for the price-to-performance ratio in India and continue to do well in the Indian market. The company is preparing to launch another smartphone, the Honor 10 on the 19th of April in China. In new leaked renders of the upcoming smartphone, the different colour variants of the Honor 10 have been revealed.

While it has already been leaked that the Honor 10 will have an all-glass design, these new colour variants make the device look even better. The most interesting of the three colours is the Twilight colour that we first saw on the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. The Twilight colour on the smartphone shifts between blue and pink under different lighting and a viewing angle. The other two colour variants of the Honor 10 will be Black and Teal. Even the Teal colour variant is something that you do not see on a lot of smartphones.

The Honor 10 will also follow an industry trend that not a lot of people are a fan of, the notch. The upcoming smartphone will have a notch very similar to the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro which will house the earpiece, necessary sensors and the front-facing camera. Apart from the horizontally placed dual-camera setup, the Honor 10 resembles the Huawei P20 Pro.

The Honor 10 is expected to have a 5.8 inch IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. This translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio which is important in this case. Like the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, the Honor 10 might also have an option to hide the notch via software. This means that the screen real estate on either side of the notch will be lost.

Under the hood, the smartphone will run on the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset with a neural processing engine. This is the same chipset found on the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. On the back of the smartphone will be a dual-camera setup with an LED flash. The notch on the front will house a 20MP front-facing camera.

The Honor 10 could be a China-exclusive smartphone and may never make its way to India. However, with the Honor View10 a few months old, the Honor 10 could be a perfect upgrade with a better design at a similar price. Stay tuned to iGyaan for the latest updates from the launch event.
