  • 8GB DRAM Announced By Samsung For AI-Powered Applications

8GB DRAM Announced By Samsung For AI-Powered Applications

Samsung has set a benchmark when it comes to all things computing related. From manufacturing displays to home appliances, Samsung has done it all. The latest innovation in their line up is 8GB DRAM which is essentially a Low Power type (LPDDR5). Made for smartphones, Samsung has focussed on integrating AI capabilities and 5G compatibility with this 8GB DRAM. Samsung also claims high data-rates for the LPDDR5 DRAMs. The announcement was made on Samsung’s news blog.

    Samsung 8GB DRAM
    Samsung 8GB DRAM

The senior vice president of Memory Product Planning & Application Engineering at Samsung Electronics, Jinman Han, quoted:

“This development of 8Gb LPDDR5 represents a major step forward for low-power mobile memory solutions. We will continue to expand our next-generation 10nm-class DRAM lineup as we accelerate the move toward greater use of premium memory across the global landscape”

This is exciting news because a faster and better-optimized RAM module will allow smartphone manufacturers to integrate AI into their devices. And then we have 5G which Samsung claims will be compatible with the LDDPR5 8GB DRAM. Prior to this DRAM, Samsung had started mass producing the 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM back in 2014.

Also Read: Google Sued For £3.2 Billion For Secretly Tracking Browsing Data For 4.4 Million iPhone Users

According to claims by Samsung, the LPDDR5 will have data-rates of up to 6,400 megabits per second (Mb/s). This, compared to the current DRAM in flagship devices, is almost 1.5 times faster. Samsung further claims that you can send close to 14 full HD video files (with a total size of approximately 3.7GB each), in a mere second.

The 8GB DRAM is also optimized to be less power hungry and work synchronously with the application processor. The LPDDR5 will achieve this optimization by lowering its voltage. Ultimately, Samsung wants to make the chip AI-friendly and better optimization will allow the DRAM to deliver better performance. The DRAM will also offer what Samsung is calling a ‘deep sleep mode’, which will essentially allow the DRAM to run on half of its usual power.

Huami To Launch Two Smartwatches In India On 24th July

Ever since wearables became a trend, Xiaomi has been launching its own line of fitness bands and smartwatches. Huami is a partnered brand with Xiaomi, which made the Mi Fit, Mi Band, and the Amazfit smartwatches. The brand is now launching in India with two smartwatches. The Amazfit Bip and Amazfit Stratos are the two wearables launching on the 24th of July. Huami made an official announcement via Twitter regarding these smartwatches.

While the Amazfit Stratos follows a circular design, the Amazfit Bip has a more rectangular aesthetic. The Amazfit Bip has rounded corners, making it look similar to the Apple Watch. The strap found on both the smartwatches are rubberized.

The Amazfit Stratos is comparatively on the pricier side, as it costs about US $199.99 (Rs. 13,718.31 approx). Whereas the Amazfit Bip costs US $99 (Rs 6,785.96 approx). Naturally, the latter has a few corners cut in terms of specifications but the Bip still holds its ground with an IP68 rating and an array of sensors. Both smartwatches offer a lot of fitness tracking features and are compatible with both iOS and Android devices. The Huami Amazfit Bip and Stratos both use a proprietary OS.

Those who can’t wait for the devices to launch in India can directly order them from the US Amazon website. Considering the US price of these smartwatches are fairly competitive, we can expect the Indian prices to be relatively on the cheaper side as well. After their launch in India, we will give our final verdict on the price tags of the smartwatches. Given that the Indian market is already flooded with a plethora of fitness bands and smartwatches. On paper, both the Amazfit Bip and Amazfit Stratos look incredibly promising.

Are you going to buy a Huami smartwatch when they are available for sale? We are all ears in the comment section, do leave your feedback.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Press Renders And Live Images Leaked

Back in October 2011 when Samsung launched the first Galaxy Note, it took the market completely by surprise. The Galaxy Note 9 was the first smartphone with such a large (by 2011 standards)  5.29-inch display. Since then, along with the display size, the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Note series has seen a major overhaul. The latest smartphone in the series is the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. And, it seems like the leaks for the device just keep on coming. The latest leak is by Evan Blass, showing a press render of the smartphone with the all-new S Pen. The leak was posted on Twitter in a reply to a tweet by Marques Brownlee, otherwise known as MKBHD.

The other leak was posted by the Twitter user Ice universe showcasing what is potentially the live images of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. In recent years, Samsung has stopped making major design changes to their smartphones and the Galaxy Note 9 may be following the same trend. Except for the placement of the fingerprint sensor below the secondary camera, there isn’t much of a difference between the Galaxy Note 8 and Note 9. This puts the previous rumours of a screen embedded fingerprint sensor to rest.

The Galaxy Note 9 may come with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2960 x 1440 px resolution and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The pixel density for the Note 9 could peak at about 514 ppi. Samsung has been using Corning Gorilla Glass for most of its smartphones and the Note 9 may also feature Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

There may be more than one SoC variant for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. There could be a US variant with a Snapdragon 845 SoC as well.  The other could be an EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Asia) variant with an Exynos 9810 octa-core chipset.

If the leaked images are anything to go by, then the camera setup for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 may feature dual rear-mounted sensors. This flagship could also feature an 8MP front-facing camera. This is similar to the camera setup found on the Galaxy Note 8.

    Samsung Galaxy Note 9
    Samsung Galaxy Note8

Samsung will have to make sure that the Note 9 packs a punch. Especially since the company’s market performance has been a little underwhelming despite the Galaxy S9 and S9+ doing well. The launch of the device is right around the corner on August 9.

  • Honor 9N To Launch On 24th July

Honor 9N To Launch On 24th July

Huawei is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer which has been giving the likes of Samsung a tough competition. The company took to Twitter on 15th July to announce that it will be bringing the Huawei Honor 9N to India. As confirmed by the company, the phone will launch on the 24th of July. Previous speculations suggested that the phone would launch under the name of Honor 9i. This name could have created a little confusion in the market. There is already a Huawei phone with the name Honor 9i which launched back in October 2017. Here is the tweet by the company.

Amidst speculation, not much about the Honor 9N is confirmed. The only confirmation we got was for the design. The smartphone follows the same design pattern as its predecessor, the Honor 9 Lite.

    Honor 9 Lite

Huawei has been focussing on integrating AI in its smartphones and we could expect the trend to continue with the 9N as well. The Honor 9N may feature the company’s latest GPU Turbo update. This update, as the company claims, improves the gaming performance by 60% while reducing battery consumption by 30%. Unlike the Honor 9 Lite, this smartphone may feature a notch-display. This could mean that Huawei might go with a 19:9 aspect ratio for the Honor 9N. The smartphone may not compromise with its bezels and have a similar almost bezel-less display as the Honor 9 Lite or the Honor 9.

Several tweets by the company show that the Honor 9N will feature a dual rear-camera mounted horizontally. Below the camera setup, sits the fingerprint sensor.

The Chinese manufacturer uses its own chipsets for its smartphones named, Kirin. Such may be the case for the Huawei Honor 9N as well. The Honor 9 Lite had a Kirin 659 chipset, so we can expect similar if not better chipset for the Honor 9N.

Huawei has not confirmed the price segment at which this smartphone is aimed. Regardless, we speculate that it will be a budget-friendly smartphone. We are closely monitoring the Honor 9N news and will keep you updated with the same. So stay tuned to iGyaan.

  • Huawei GPU Turbo Update Pushing Out To Select Devices

Huawei GPU Turbo Update Pushing Out To Select Devices

The new update which Huawei is calling GPU Turbo will release in August. The company plans to roll out the update only for a few of its smartphones. The Huwaei GPU Turbo will significantly improve the graphical performance of the device without compromising on its battery life.

The Huawei GPU Turbo is similar to overclocking the CPU of a computer. The update will improve the overall performance of the device by optimizing its resource utilization. This would result in almost 60% improved graphical performance while reducing close to 30% of battery consumption. Which means, not only will you be able to game better, but the battery life of your device will also improve.

Huawei is closely working with developers to make sure the update is a bug-free experience by the time it releases. The company has placed its bets on software optimization at a time when the competition is focussed on hardware. This is a refreshing change as having the latest GPU does not necessarily mean better performance. A well-optimized smartphone can use the GPU to its full potential.

Huawei GPU Turbo will provide noticeable improvements in games like PUBG. PUBG is a resource hungry game which eats away at the battery life of a smartphone. With GPU Turbo, the battery life will improve quite significantly.

Ferrari’s Design Company Working On A $2M Electric Hypercar

The company which designed the Ferrari F40, Pininfarina, is planning to launch a $2 million electric hypercar according to reports. Pininfarina has designed Maserati cars as well. Now the company is planning to launch its own hypercar in hopes to set a benchmark in the history of car making. The company is calling this the PF0 or the PF Zero.

    Small History

Pininfarina was responsible for designing the classic Ferrari F40. The company showcased its capabilities in the 2016 Geneva Automobile Convention. With their H2 Speed 2018, the company introduced the world to its first hydrogen-powered hypercar. The car could go from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The new PF0 plans to blow that record out of the water by supposedly going from 0 to 100 miles/hr in less than two seconds.

Whether or not Pininfarina can set itself apart from the competition will be seen when the concept is unveiled at the 2019 Geneva convention.

  • OnePlus Dash Charge Likely To Be Rebranded “Warp Charge”

OnePlus Dash Charge Likely To Be Rebranded “Warp Charge”

OnePlus introduced Dash Charge with their smartphone line back in 2016. However, OnePlus is now planning to start from the scratch and rebrand “Dash Charge”. The new name for OnePlus’ fast charging feature could be “Warp Charge”.

OnePlus decided to rebrand the name after it faced a trademark rejection in the EU. There were two main reasons why OnePlus could not own the Dash Charge trademark in the EU. The OnePlus Dash Charge clashed with the name of Bragi’s wireless earphones, “The Dash Pro”. The name also clashed with Amazon’s “Dash Replenishment”.

The trademark for Warp Charge was filed at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The filing comes under the Nice Class 9, which covers:

    • Data cables
    • power adapters
    • cell phone battery chargers
    • electrical adapters
    • electric batteries
    • chargers for electric batteries
    • wireless chargers

And since the OnePlus Dash Charge is a name for the company’s charging feature, the trademark falls under the Nice Class 9.

OnePlus has made a logo for the new “Warp Charge” brand name. The look has the words “Warp Charge” in black colour seemingly warping and getting distorted due to high speeds.

    OnePlus Dash Charge
OnePlus Dash Charge Rebranded to Warp Charge

OnePlus already started doing away with the Dash Charge brand by renaming “Dash Charge” to “rapidly charging” when you plug in a OnePlus 6. So it’s evident that there will be a rebranding at some point in time. However, There is no word from the EUIPO on whether the organization will accept the trademark. We will keep an eye out for further updates to see what would be the new name for Dash Charge so stay tuned to iGyaan.

Honor Note 10 Rolls Royce Edition Images Leaked

Smartphone manufacturer, Huawei, has partnered with the British automobile company, Rolls Royce to launch a new device. The smartphone could launch on 26th July in China.  The image only shows the rear panel which houses the Rolls Royce logo and has a glossy metallic finish.

The image also shows what seems like a USB Type-C slot and a single speaker grill at the bottom. Although it would be too early to say anything for sure, from the looks of it, the smartphone may not feature the headphone jack. The rear also houses a fingerprint sensor and a dual-camera setup.

The Honor Note 10 Rolls Royce Edition might launch at a price of ¥9998 (approx $1495). The smartphone could follow the same limited stock trend of other special edition devices. At this point, we cannot say for certain if this device will launch in India.

The Honor Note 10 will also come in color variants other than the special edition. While we don’t have the official name of these colors yet, we do have an alleged image showing them.

The Honor Note 10 Rolls Royce edition could have the same specifications as the other color variants except for maybe the storage size. The smartphone could feature a 6.9-inch Super AMOLED display with 3120 x 1440 px resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. This puts the pixel density at about 498 ppi.

Huawei is known for using their own Kirin chipset for their smartphones. The Honor Note 10 could feature the flagship Hisilicon Kirin 970. This is an octa-core chipset with 4 cores running at 2.4 GHz and the other four at 1.8 GHz.

As the live-images showed the smartphone will feature a primary dual-camera setup. The setup consists of a 16 MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 24 MP Black and White sensor with f/1.8 aperture. There is still no word on whether the camera will feature OIS. The secondary camera will be a 16 MP sensor.

A marketing strategy like releasing a special edition of smartphones could either work wonders for a company or it could be seen as a gimmick. We would keep an eye out to see which way things go for Huawei with the Honor Note 10 Rolls Royce Edition, so stay tuned to iGyaan.

Galaxy Note 9 Accidentally Advertised By Samsung

In the latest leak from the company, Samsung has accidentally released an advertisement for the Galaxy Note 9. The news comes from the tipster twitter handle, Ice universe. The account shared a photo of a full-page ad of the Galaxy Note 9.

The page advertises the Note 9 as “The new super powerful Note 9”. Not sure where Samsung was going with that but the overall design of the smartphone though not new, still looks impressive. What is expected to be new, is the revamped S-Pen which will now feature Bluetooth capabilities.

A Galaxy Note 9 design render video was posted on YouTube.  The video shows an elegant design which follows the same design pattern as the Galaxy Note 8. The only noticeable difference is the placement of the fingerprint sensor, which sits right below the rear-camera module.

The color variants suggested by the video are Onyx Black, Navy Blue, Lilac Purple, and Brown Gold. The Galaxy Note 9 might have a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with 1440 x 2960 px resolution and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The pixel density for the Note 9 could peak at about 514 ppi. The display will be protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The SoC for the Note 9 could vary from region to region. For instance, EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Asia) may see a Galaxy Note 9 with an Exynos 9810 octa-core chipset. Four of these eight cores will run at 2.7 GHz and the other four at 1.8 GHz. The second variant could launch with a Snapdragon 845 SoC, for USA and China.

The camera setup for the Galaxy Note 9 may feature dual rear-mounted sensors. The rear-camera setup is speculated to have a 12MP sensor with an aperture of f/1.5 and another 12MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture. This flagship may also feature an 8MP front-facing camera. The primary sensor could have OIS capabilities and 2x optical zoom.

Samsung has been lagging behind the competition for a while. Especially after massive a sales dip last year. All eyes are glued to Samsung as the Galaxy Note 9 release is around the corner. Stay tuned to iGyaan for further updates.
