  • Oppo’s New Handset Seems Heavily ‘Inspired’ by the iPhone 6 Plus

Oppo’s New Handset Seems Heavily ‘Inspired’ by the iPhone 6 Plus

After design overlaps between HTC’s One A9 and iPhone 6, looks like Oppo has also joined the league with its new smartphone. As hardware leaks of Oppo’s latest addition to the world of smartphones emerge, we see a device with a metal uni-body which looks very similar like that of the iPhone 6 Plus.

HTC had given its device a dash of originality by placing its camera in the centre of the back of the phone. Oppo, on the other hand, has refused to be too creative with its design -its camera is located exactly where it is in an iPhone. The only thing different is the orientation of the LED flash.Oppos iPhone inspired phone

To add this, there are also other identical features which include a bottom-firing speaker grille, headphone jack and port for charging, all positioned on the underside of the phone.

What is this charm of Apple that has captivated both consumers and manufacturers all over? Whether you hate it or love it, or love to hate or hate to love it -either way it’s hard to ignore the presence the Apple in the tech world. Do you think the design of the iPhone is actually as popular as all other companies are making it out to be?

  • BlackBerry Device Sporting Exynos 7420 SoC Leaked in Benchmark

BlackBerry Device Sporting Exynos 7420 SoC Leaked in Benchmark

BlackBerry just released the much talked about Android-powered device, Priv, a few weeks ago. And now it looks like the company is working on another device already. It’ll still be a while before we know exactly how well the Priv does, but BlackBerry is in no mood to wait, which makes sense since they’ve been out of action for a few years now.

According to GFXBench database, a new BlackBerry device has been listed sporting Samsung’s Exynos 7420 SoC and running Android 5.1.1. Now, it is important you take this news with a grain of salt, as we cannot confirm the authenticity of said listing. But the image below reveals some specs about a possible upcoming BlackBerry device.

    BlackBerry Benchmark

If the above listing is in fact true, it would mean that BlackBerry is going for a chipset most popularly found in Samsung’s Galaxy S6. The handset may feature a 5.1-inch QHD touchscreen, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 16 MP rear camera, and a 5 MP front.

We cannot confirm anything as of yet, but given BlackBerry’s new found enthusiasm to get back into the game, another new device may not be such a farfetched idea at all.

  • Scientists Discover Diamond Nanothreads That are Crazy Strong

Scientists Discover Diamond Nanothreads That are Crazy Strong

A new discovery makes graphene look a lot weaker now. Australian researchers have discovered that diamond nanothreads (one-dimensional diamond crystals capped with hydrogen) could be extremely strong. This ultra-thin diamond nanothread is a 1D structure with poly-benzene sections connected by Stone-Wales (SW) transformation defects.

What this basically means is that if mixed with the right amount of defects, these nanothreads become supremely flexible and durable. This will potentially allow one to create nanoscopic structures that cater to how strong you require them to be, with a ‘perfect’ mix of bendy and rigid shapes.

“Its highly tunable ductility together with its ultra-light density and high Young’s modulus makes diamond nanothread ideal for the creation of extremely strong three-dimensional nano-architectures,” say Zhan and co.

    Diamond nanothreads

Of course, these nanothreads have been discovered on in simulation and only real-life applications can tell just how useful diamond nanothreads can be. The next step would be for material scientists to create nanothread construction kits and start measuring this material’s properties for real. Since the potential applications are wide, you may just see these little nanothreads everywhere around you very soon.

  • Samsung’s A9 Spotted On GeekBench With 3GB RAM

Samsung’s A9 Spotted On GeekBench With 3GB RAM

The specifications of a new Samsung A9 (SM-A9000) showed up on Geekbench and it looks like this new handset will arrive with a Snapdragon 620 SoC(MSM8976). Other features include a dual quad-core CPU, Cortex-A72 cores along with Cortex-A53. The chip is said to be geared towards single core performance with a score of 1446 while the multi core score was 4134. The device can also be expected to arrive with a 3GB of RAM and run on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop version.

    Samsung A9 Geekbench

The specifications of this device had earlier also appeared on An Tu Tu and match the specifications shown on GeekBench. An Tu Tu had said that the A9 could also arrive with a 5.5 inch full HD Super AMOLED display and 32GB of internal storage. The only information that seems to be missing is that of the anticipated handset’s camera. The A8 comes with a 16MP primary camera, so going by that, the new phone might comes with either the same camera or an enhanced one.

  • Nexus 6P Users Complain of Poor Microphone Quality During Calls

Nexus 6P Users Complain of Poor Microphone Quality During Calls

Seems like Apple is not the only company with its fair share of problems. Google makes sure its tech competitor never feels left out, even when it comes to running into controversies with their latest gadgets.

JerryRigEverything.com put the Nexus 6P through a series of tests few weeks ago. These tests included heat test and checking the bending capabilities of the phone. Even though the phone is otherwise a sturdy device, it has a hardware flaw which meant -the phone snapped into two when it was tested for bending.Huawei Nexus 6P 25

However, twisting your phone at unnatural angles is not something most users are likely to do. So this whole ‘bend-gate’ issue a second time over with a flagship could be simply overlooked, right? And all was well in the Nexus 6P paradise one more time…until new issues emerged.

Users are now complaining of poor sound quality during phone calls. The person on the other side is unable to hear them properly. Other than standard phone calls, this is also happening during VoIP calls, like Hangouts.

The poor microphone quality has been experienced by users in both the speaker as well as the ear-piece mode. People have taken to Google forums and reddit to talk about it. Google is currently looking into the problem.

If you have used a Nexus 6P, did you face the same, or any other problem, as well? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Fingerprint Scanners are Finally Here

    Fingerprint Scanners are Finally Here

Remember those spy movies you would watch as a kid, where the spy would have to get to this super secure vault; which could only be opened by one person, because it was locked by the most advanced technology of all time – fingerprint security system? Child’s play today.

Almost every present day high-end smartphone has a fingerprint scanner. So why not a USB fingerprint scanner which can be attached to your laptop in order to lock all your accounts with your own fingerprint? Let us find out what all the fuss is about.

    Fingerprint scanner

Today we want to talk about a startup project called iTouch ID; what this does, is basically makes your life easier by providing you with one fingerprint touch id scanner to access all your accounts. You might think that this is absolutely ridiculous as a security measure for all your important accounts.

Well, fret no more because firstly, nobody else in the entire world has the same fingerprint as you, and secondly, the device captures an image of your fingerprint and stores only the analysis data of the print. This means, that a hacker won’t be able to access your fingerprint, because it’s basically not stored anywhere.

Makes us wonder – a. When did our brains become so dull that we can’t even remember our own passwords and numbers? Oh right, when we had to protect everything. b. Why would anyone want to hack into a lay man’s account? Honestly, today, who is a layman? Enter over-protective technology, that makes us believe our life is in danger 24 X 7.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMrgMy6sdbo

Now that you have understood the iTouch ID’s basic functionality let’s take a look at a couple of other things that it can do. The iTouch can act as your laptop’s main password alternative, it can also manage multiple passwords on your multiple accounts, it can automatically log you into social networking sites and other accounts that you frequently visit, and it can even lock and unlock files just by creating a specific setting.

Way to make us lazier than we already are! It’s like technology is suddenly demeaning human power rather than enhancing it. It’s like this condescending voice in our head that is saying – Hello person, you are going to forget your password eventually, then somebody will hack into your account and steal all your money, then you’re going to die unhappy. Human reaction – Dear technology, please take over my life already.

    iTouch ID

Luckily we already know that this attachment is rather small, so it won’t cause you any hassle of tangled wires or adding weight to your device etc. What we also know is that it is not easily destructible, simply because of the way it has been crafted. It has been made out of an aircraft grade aluminum with a hard-anodized finish and laser-cut sapphire glass.

This that it is completely waterproof and has the ability to resist scratches. Basically, a lot of money has been spent to protect you, so you might as well take advantage of it by paying some more money,

    iTouch ID

Hardware wise it comes with a Fingerprint Sensor: ID FPS360, capacitive touch to detect the user’s fingerprint, 500 pixels per inch resolution, 256 x 300 pixel array, measures 0.72 inches (18.2 mm width) by 0.42 inches (10.6 mm length) by 0.24 inches (6 mm height), and has a power supply of 5V via USB. Apart from this the product also features  a USB 2.0, and as mentioned earlier is waterproof and scratch resistant. On the software front, this security product comes with an iTouch ID FPS360 Personal Identity Device USB Biometric Fingerprint scanner.

    iTouch ID

To elaborate a little bit more about the features and functionality of the product, we should know that it’s biometric fingerprint data are encrypted and stored in a secure password storage system. It supports a native USB implementation to enable the device, it has a two level authentication process, and is  AES encrypted. See what we mean by ‘over-protective technology’ to the rescue?

    iTouch ID

There are 10 variants of iTouch IDs with varying price range. The Friendly iTouch ID comes at $3, the First iTouch ID comes at $79, the Green iTouch ID, the Gold iTouch ID and the Simple iTouch ID come at $99, the Personal iTouch ID comes at $119, the Share iTouch ID comes at $189, the Share a Personal ID comes at $ 222, the High Five iTouch ID comes at $444 and the Double High Five ID comes at $888.

If that’s not enough of time and money spent on protecting yourself virtually, there are a couple of system requirements that you will have to fulfill before purchasing the device. You will need a PC with 1200 MHz or higher processor clock speed, a 512MB of RAM, 100MB of available hard disk space, Super VGA (800×600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor, USB 2.0 backward compatible for USB 1.1 and an OS Windows or Mac OS X and Android.

Overall it is quite an impressive piece of work, it’s complicated, sophisticated, intricate, well thought out and honestly it is also innovative. However that sense of awe we had mentioned in the beginning is still not there. Today technology has become so accessible that, the sophisticated technology we once thought could only be used by the CIA or MI6 or James Bond can now easily be bought by us too.

The main attraction towards technology back when we were kids, was the magic it produced and the mystery behind it. Today, even though we know everything, and what we don’t know can be found out very simply, the charm technology holds on us still unbreakable. Won’t you agree?

  • These Tiny Swallowable Sensors Analyze Your Health From Inside

These Tiny Swallowable Sensors Analyze Your Health From Inside

A team of researchers at MIT have developed an ingestible sensor which will be able to assess your vital signs from inside the body. The sensor would pay special attention to the gastrointestinal tract while making both short and long term assessments easier for patients. Athletics and soldiers also stand to benefit from this new development in the realm of health related technology.

The sensor sits inside an almond-sized silicone capsule. The method of using this sensor internally will be very helpful with trauma patients like burn victims. Even though measurement of vital signs has evolved and developed tremendously over the years with ECGs and electronic stethoscopes being two efficient examples, all these are wearables which require skin contact. But ingestible devices completely eliminate the need for external contact with the patient’s body.

“What we did with our technology is identify components that were compatible with ingestion. These are very small microphones similar to the ones that are used in common cellphones and actually listen from within the body and [can] extract the heart rate and respiratory rate,” says a research affiliate at MIT’s Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research.

The sensor works by picking up sound waves from both the heart as well as the lungs, along with the additional noise that comes from the digestive tract. The team overcame a major hurdle of devising a signal processing algorithm that can sieve and differentiate between the different kinds of noise and pay attention to the the heart beat and breathing.

This received data can be transmitted over a distance of as far as three meters. Once ingested, the capsular sensor would stay within the system for about a day, or two. For patients that require long term treatment, they might need to ingest these sensors more than once over a fixed period of time.

  • Google To Launch Play Store In China Next Year

Google To Launch Play Store In China Next Year

Google wants to launch a special version of its Play Store in China next year. Reports suggest that the company wants to launch a stand-alone version for the country in order to comply with their government’s censorship requirements.

    Google Play Store

Google has had a short and somewhat tumultuous relationship with the country. It left China in 2010 as a reaction to the Chinese hacking attacks and the government’s censorship requirements. However, with the new turn of events, it seems like the company is agreeing to comply with content censorship request, but will keep the Chinese version of the Play Store separate from the existing app store. This will be done so that the rest of the users located outside the country won’t have to comply with those specific censorship guidelines.

    Google Play Store

Even with Android being the most used operating system in China, many users do not have Google apps on their phone because of the above mentioned reasons. They currently use web browsers like Tencent and Baidu in order to access app stores from mobile phones. Therefore, hopefully with the introduction of the Google Play Store, things might change for the ‘techizens’ of China, and will inversely even help Google expand towards more areas of influence.

This app store can be expected to launch during the first half of 2016, sometime after the Chinese New Year in February.

  • iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Prices to Drop by 10k in India Mid December

iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Prices to Drop by 10k in India Mid December

Apple is ready to launch itself in the country later this year, with news of Apple launching official stores and finally breaking free of the 5 year minimum entry tie up clause with its partners including Reliance. Apple will launch as an independent company with flagship stores all around the country.

Sources inside of Apple tell iGyaan that the Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus that launched with huge price disparities between the US and Indian markets , will see some price moderation and capping. Apple will follow global pricing standards and soon, try to match up to US prices to make consumers buy locally in India.

The Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, that feature new 3D touch and 4k Video recording among many hardware improvements, launched in India with a starting price of Rs. 62,000 and Rs. 72,000, respectively for the 16 GB version.

    iPhone 6s and 6s plus igyaan 1

Apple follows a global warranty policy with all it’s products. The iPhone which has been left out of the Global warranty, here in India, due to tie ups with Indian distributors, will also come within Apple’s warranty standards. Meaning, people buying iPhones anywhere else in the world will enjoy warranty in India.

It would only make sense for Apple to offer products at a nearly matched price to reduce imports of their products from global destinations, including Thailand and UAE.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are expected to drop in price by Rs. 10,000 making them slightly more pocket friendly. You may want to hold of your purchases for a month, incase this turns out to be true. Here are the current prices.
