The first design shows a smartphone with  a pop up camera. This means that the screen will be totally bezel-less and will have a sliding compartment on the top. This will house the single or even dual front cameras. It is still not clear as to whether this will be a manual slider or will be mechanised like on the Vivo Nex

This design shows an Asus smartphone with a hole in the top left of its display. And it houses a single front facing camera. This technology is already seen in the Samsung Galaxy A8s, which was launched recently.

PUBG’s Player Count Increases Again, First Time After January 2018

PUBG has been locking horns with other popular games with a similar play style, like Fortnite, for a long time now. Fortnite had surpassed PUBG in terms of number of concurrent players and PUBG has been fighting back.

    What Happened?

In January, PUBG had recorded a concurrent player number of around 3.2 million and as of the time of writing this article, the game has a total of 1,083,312 users in it’s 24 hour peak. The widely popular game has started with a bang, but saw reduction in the number of players since June 2018. The reduction in the number was gradual and did not happen suddenly.

This indicated that the players were either moving on to other games or were bored of playing PUBG. But with the release of the new snow map, it seems like players are coming back. China, Korea and India are massive markets for PUBG players while the United States plays Fortnite majorly. The +7.04% gain in players comes after ten months of falling numbers. Fortnite on the other hand, topped the list in November setting a new milestone of reaching 200 million concurrent players.

PUBG has also been riddled in controversy with the company recently banning major teams and players for cheating after an anti cheat software went live. The map hack allowed the players to see their enemies on the mini map constantly giving them a tactical edge over the others. Other games like Call of Duty Black Ops also led to the loss in the number of players. The much anticipated game’s release saw a significant drop in the player numbers. But with the new Vikendi map and newer faster and better play styles, PUBG might make a strong comeback. PUBG also seems to be listening to their players and adding or fixing problems that are reported. They recently made small changes that has improved the overall gaming experience after listening to feedback.

  • Samsung Galaxy A10 Might Be The First Samsung Phone With An In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

Samsung Galaxy A10 Might Be The First Samsung Phone With An In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

With a looming threat from Chinese smartphone manufacturers, Samsung has started taking drastic measures to ensure that it stays on top. With competition from Huawei in the global market and players such as Xiaomi beating it in strategic markets such as India, Samsung really needs to step up its game. Earlier reports had suggested that Samsung will be reshuffling its entire smartphone lineup. And also be integrating more features into its budget and mid-range lineup. This might be turning out to be true. As the upcoming Galaxy A10 is said to be the first Samsung device to sport an in-display fingerprint sensor.

    The Galaxy A10

The Galaxy A series is the mid-range series from Samsung. Usually, these devices are not as feature loaded as the flagship phones, but lately, Samsung has been changing that. With the Galaxy A7, Samsung rough the concept of triple cameras to its smartphones. It then scaled that concept up by introducing the quad camera Galaxy A9. Additionally, the A9 features  gradient back panel, which is a first in Samsung devices. According to a Chinese leaker, the Galaxy A10 will be the first Samsung phone to launch with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Additionally, reports also suggests that an A series phone will run on the Snapdragon 845 SoC from Qualcomm.

While every leak must be taken with a pinch of salt, this one is no different. Firstly, Samsung is said to be using the Ultrasonic fingerprint scanning technology by Qualcomm for its phones. This technology is 3x more expensive than the Optical in display fingerprint sensors. This leak is hard to believe. As using an ultrasonic in display fingerprint reader will make the cost of the smartphone to shoot up drastically.

Additionally, Samsung might just save the technology for its upcoming flagship Galaxy S10 series. Being the 10th anniversary of the Galaxy S series, they will ensure that they put the best of every technology that they have, into this phone. Not doing so and putting it into an A series phone before that, might just take away the spotlight from the Galaxy S10.

  • Apple To Launch iPad Mini 5 And Entry Level iPad Next Year

Apple To Launch iPad Mini 5 And Entry Level iPad Next Year

After launching the new iPad Pro this year, it seems like Apple might also launch a new iPad Mini. This will be the fifth-generation of the iPad Mini. That is not all, the tech giant will also reportedly launch a 10-inch entry level iPad as well. What’s more, the report also claims that this will all happen in the first half of 2019. The entry level iPad is also said to be available in two versions.

The iPad Mini has been long due for an upgrade with the last variant coming out in 2015. After the launch of that model, the only changes the iPad Mini received was a few price cuts. However, things were looking up as few reports had detailed that Apple would launch an iPad Mini this year, along with the iPad Pro and the new MacBook Air. Unfortunately, we did not see that happen. But things might change with the introduction of this so called, ‘low-cost’ iPad Mini.

    The New iPad Pro

The iPad Mini 5 is said to have an upgraded processor and a lower cost display panel. The new entry-level iPad will replace the 6th generation 9.7 inch iPad. The new iPad is said to have a 10 inch display with a much narrower frame. The entry level tablet is expected to carry on some design elements from the 2018 iPad Pro, but won’t be as sleek as the same. It is, however, expected to have Apple Pencil support, just like its predecessor.

With a decline in iPad sales over the years, Apple is looking for avenues to ensure that its popular tablet is back in the spotlight. It will also look to cut costs, to ensure a cheaper price for the new iPads. One such example is the reported plan to shift to Korean made LED displays from the current Japanese LED displays.

  • Huawei P30 To Feature A 40 MP Triple Rear Camera

Huawei P30 To Feature A 40 MP Triple Rear Camera

The Huawei P20 Pro had made a mark in the smartphone industry with its unique triple rear camera setup. It consisted of a primary 40 MP lens and had great camera performance. Huawei is expected to keep up this camera performance with the upcoming P30. Earlier leaks had suggested the presence of a quad rear camera on the P30 Pro. But nothing much was known about the non-pro version. Now, a leaker has revealed that the P30 will have a triple rear camera and will be a camera-centric phone.

    The Leak

According to a popular leaker, the Huawei P30 has a triple rear camera. This includes a 40 MP sensor and also, 5x lossless zoom. Along with this, it is said to have a 24 MP front facing camera. The source also mentions that he go this information from someone who has seen the device in person, making the leak credible. At least, that is what he claims.

Considering the fact that the P20 Pro had a 40 MP , 20 MP and 8 MP triple camera setup, we can expect the P30 to have something similar to this. The 40 MP sensor had an f/1.8 aperture while the 20 MP sensor had an f/1.6 aperture. The 8 MP depth sensor had 3x optical zoom. Considering that the P30 is said to have 5x zoom, we can expect a better depth sensor on the phone. Additionally, the 24 MP front facing camera and the rear camera, might both have great AI capabilities, just like the recently launched Mate 20 Pro.

While Huawei’s camera prowess is always appreciated, their phones always fall behind competition due to slower processors or hard-to-use UI’s. However, the company is now working on the issue and has already made the world’s first 7nm Android chipset, beating most of its competition. With a little more focus on its UI and some more tweaks here and there, Huawei’s upcoming phones can surely cause a stir in the smartphone market.

  • Our First Taste Of 5G Might Not Even Be 5G

Our First Taste Of 5G Might Not Even Be 5G

With 2018 coming to a close, 2019 will usher in a new era of mobile technology. 5G is one of the most anticipated technologies. Multiple network operators, smartphone manufacturers and even chipset makers around the world testing and readying their 5G technology. The launch of the next big thing in mobile connectivity is just around the corner. However, according to the latest reports, the first layer of 5G which reaches consumers, might not even be 5G.

American telecom giant AT&T has already launched its 5G network in the US. It did so on the 21st of December. And has made the network available to users in select cities in the US. But, there is a twist to this tale. While the company is advertising this as its first 5G network, it is just a faster 4G network, under the guise of a 5G network. How and why are they doing this?

With the rollout, the company will be upgrading a few LTE enabled handsets with a “5G E” indicator. The 5G E indicator is nothing but a 4G network. This now offers 4 x 4 MIMO and 256 QAM technologies, along with other advanced LTE technologies. So now, a lot of users will see the 5G E icon pop-up on their screens, and AT&T will roll this feature out to many more LTE devices by spring 2019. Additionally, the ‘5G Evolution’ will be available in more than 400 markets in the near future, according to the company.

Also Read : Facebook Developing Cryptocurrency To be Used In WhatsApp

The exact reason for this step according to the company is that the 5G E technology will allow for the company to make the gradual shift into 5G technology. In short, this is the stepping stone to the much faster 5G netwrok. However, a lot of experts point out that this 5G Evolution plan might just confuse consumers even more, rather than aiding in the rollout of 5G.

  • Facebook Developing Cryptocurrency To be Used In WhatsApp

Facebook Developing Cryptocurrency To be Used In WhatsApp

Social media giant Facebook, is reportedly developing a cryptocurrency to be used to transfer money using WhatsApp. WhatsApp, as we know, is owned by Facebook and is going to receive the first taste fo the company’s Blockchain initiative. The report suggests that the company is developing a stablecoin. We’ll discuss what a stablecoin is, further into this article. But for now, its pretty interesting to see how this idea developed.

    The Social Currency

Facebook had been keen on entering the financial arena, for  a very long time. In fact, it had hired PayPal president David Marcus way back in 2014. After a few months at the company, Facebook named him as the head of the blockchain division. Within a few more months, Facebook hired more than 40 people into this blockchain division. however, despite having so many employees and resources, nothing that the division does was made public.

    Facebook Instagram

Obviously WhatsApp would be the ideal choice for the company to start exploring this booming, yet jittery market. More than 200 million people use the messaging service in India alone. Another notable statistic is that India also leads the world in remittances. With more than $69 million sent to India, it is a pretty lucrative market for new and more convenient currencies to be integrated. However, another challenge is gaining the trust of people. Especially in a country like in India, where either the awareness about cryptocurrencies is low or nil and those who are aware are wary of the same.

However, Facebook plans to introduce a stablecion currency to change this. A stablecoin is a type of cryptocurrency which is designed to minimise the effects of price volatility. To do this, they are pegged to an existing currency or to traded commodities such as precious metals. Therefore, they end up being more stable and don’t carry the risk of the ‘bubble’ suddenly bursting.
