  • Apple Will Sell Its Products Online In India For The First Time Through Its Official Website

Apple Will Sell Its Products Online In India For The First Time Through Its Official Website

Apple has faced long-standing obstacles in its way to fully penetrate the Indian market. The company is one of the industry leaders across the globe but is still a minor player in the world’s fastest-growing smartphone market. There were many reasons for this that include Indian policies, pricing and more that led to Apple never officially stepping a foot on the South Asian subcontinent. Now, thanks to the relaxation of a few rules the company is finally set to officially sell its products in India through its online store.

So How Did Apple Sell In India Before?

Technically, Apple was never really in India as an official retailer of its electronic products. However, it had collaborated with many 3rd party retailers, for example, Imagine stores, for the sale of its products. The company had to take such measures owing to certain laws and regulations imposed by the Indian Government. In India, companies that wish to sell their products officially through its own online or offline channels must first source 30% of their products locally. For those unaware, electronic imports in India carry a 20% customs duty which is why some products are more expensive than its MRP in foreign countries.

    Apple’s Online Store

Apple’s global online store has the option that allows people to buy its products directly from its website. However, in India, there is no such option. On the official Indian website, users are only informed as to which offline and online store sells its products indirectly. Now, owing to the easing of certain laws, Apple will no longer have to source 30% of its product locally. Currently, the company has most of its products sourced and manufactured in China but is shifting some of its production to India as well. In other words, Apple can finally start selling its own products through its own website for the first time.

So What Does This Have To Do With You?

If you’re an Android and Windows users, the changes aren’t going to affect you. But if you are into the Apple ecosystem then this change is a big deal. Soon, users will be able to officially buy Apple products which will now be noticeably cheaper since they are not, for the most part, imported from abroad. Furthermore, users can get more customizability option with Apple’s computing products such as its MacBooks and Macs. The website will be updated for direct purchases in the next few months as the company gears up for the launch of its latest iPhone generation.

The American company already has certain devices being manufactured in India which allows for its lower pricing than before. Additionally, the company is also opening its first official store in Mumbai. Selling online through official channels will also allow the company to control the quality and dissuade counterfeiting. Conclusively, Apple is finally arriving at the heated Indian market which holds one of the highest potentials in the world.

Apple Crosses $1 Billion in Annual Sales in India

The latest report on Apple sales have now silenced the skeptics. Apple has reportedly crossed the $1 billion sales mark in India for the first time in the year-ended March. according to results filed with the Registrar of Companies (RoC) on Wednesday.

Economic Times revealed how Apple managed to pull off a 44 percent increase in sales from Rs 4500.35 crore up to Rs 6472.89 crore with a doubled net profit of Rs 242.85 crore.

A customer holds an iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus after the phones went on sale at the Fifth Avenue Apple store in Manhattan, New York

These figures were bound show up. Apple had a great year since the launch of the iPhone 6. Along with the sales of the iPhone 6, Apple also introduced a number of offers like buyback and installments schemes to the excitement of many fans. The offers have only grown more and more since. In fact, in October, Apple also launched some buyback schemes for the latest iPhone 6s series.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were launched to the dismay of many for its ridiculously high price tag. Apple saw the problem and was quick to offer buyback schemes to upgraders with up to Rs 34,000 off in exchange for an older model.

Apple has also tied-up with Croma and will soon open up Apple Stores in India, which is surely going to help with the figures all the more.

  • The Apple Watch is Finally Coming to India

The Apple Watch is Finally Coming to India

Apple is all set to launch the Apple Watch in India. The company’s India website now features a Watch option on the top along with other Apple products. The smartwatch will hit the stores on November 6th, according to the website.

The Apple Watch was first unveiled in March and began rolling out in April with a few countries at a time. The Watch is available in two variants – 38 mm and 42 mm. The US price of the Apple Watch’s base Sport model is $349 (around Rs. 23,000), which can be expected to cost close to Rs. 30,000 in India. The company has launched close to 34 combinations of the Watch with prices going as high as $10,000 for the Watch edition.

    Apple Watch 01

Apple has been mum on how well the Apple Watch has been doing. The company has also refused to disclose how many units it has sold till date. Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the information was privileged and that he didn’t want to “help the competition.” That hasn’t stopped analysts trying to come up with an estimate. Some analysts have said that Apple has managed to ship 4.2 million units in the last three months.

    Apple Watch

Apple recently unveiled the new watchOS 2, the updated system software for the Apple Watch, which brought features like activation lock, native apps, email reply and more. You can also use Messenger on the Apple Watch.

The biggest challenge is whether the Indian market is ready for wearable technologies like a smartwatch. It may be a while before consumers are ready to have something expensive around their wrists, and initial sales may not be as big as one is used to when an Apple product launches in India. However, the news has already gotten Indian developers building apps for the Watch, and some of the first ones include the likes of Cleartrip, HDFC Bank app, and Avaamo among others.

  • Yes, iPhone 6s is Most Expensive When Bought in India

Yes, iPhone 6s is Most Expensive When Bought in India

By now you must be aware of the Indian pricing of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Apple’s latest phones that launched in India today, 3 weeks after the US launch, are not only heavier than the previous iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but are also heavy on your pockets.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus come at a starting price of Rs. 62,000 and Rs. 72,000, respectively for the 16 GB version. At these prices, the newest iPhones cost more in India than any other country.

If one translates the Indian pricing of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to US currency, here’s what you get.

    iPhone 6s iPhone 6s Plus
    16 GB $955 $1,110
    64 GB $1,110 $1,265
    128 GB $1,265 $1,415

The same 16 GB iPhone 6s model costs $649 in the US, which means customers in India will be shelling out $306 more for the iPhone 6s 16 GB. Similarly, the base model of the iPhone 6s Plus costs $749 in the US whereas you’ll have to pay $351 more in India.

    iPhone 6s and 6s plus igyaan 6

The extravagant prices in India is likely to bring down sales for the latest iPhones. But pre-bookings for the latest devices do not seem to show any such signs. Many retailers, both online and offline, have offered major offers for the latest iPhones. Airtel is offering free 4G data on purchase of the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, while Vodafone is offering freebies worth Rs. 8,885. These offers are only some of the many promotional campaigns being seen around India.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus may be the most expensive phones in India, but that didn’t stop fans from lining outside Apple reseller stores across the country to get their hands on the latest device. Apple CEO Tim Cook even expressed his thanks on Twitter. The excitement for the phones is still as high as ever. So, it could be that customers are willing to overlook the mighty price tag so that they can enjoy all the new features that come with the new phones.

  • Apple Watch to Arrive in India Next Month, Priced Starting Rs. 24,999

Apple Watch to Arrive in India Next Month, Priced Starting Rs. 24,999

Apple’s very first wearable was unveiled last year along with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Today, a year later, there is no sign of it in India. However we have some good news for those waiting to get their hands on the device – it arrives in the country next month.

The wearable went on sale in March, worldwide, after the Apple Spring Forward event. Although the Cupertino-based tech giant claims India to be an important market, it did not launch the Watch here at the time. The Apple Watch comes in three variants – Sport, Regular and Gold Edition. Apple Watch Edition (pure solid gold edition), available in a block of 18 carat yellow, or rose gold went on sale starting at a whopping price of US$ 10,000 for the 38mm version, however, this watch will not be released in India just yet. And if we are to believe sources, then the Apple Watch Sport will be priced starting Rs. 24,999.

    Apple watch Features Design 15

The Apple Watch is created in order to make interaction simpler and intimate. One doesn’t have to constantly be on their phones in order to check the time, reply to emails, take calls, respond to text messages etc, instead all these activities can be completed by a few glances and voice notes.  It also has some unique gesture supports that will make it easy to use and to interact with others. Here is the catch, you have to have an iPhone (or any product by Apple) too so that all the information from your device can get synced to this new iWatch.

5 Nifty Tricks Every Mac Owner Should Know

Do you think you’re taking full advantage of using one of the best computer systems in the world? Apple has hidden a few interesting hacks on your Apple MacBook, which are worth taking note of.

Here’s a list of 5 fun things you could do with your MacBook:

    1. Have Your Emails Read to You, in an English Accent

Not only is it super simple to get your Mac to read out text for you, you can even pick and choose the voice/accent you like. To have text read out to you, highlight the text, right click and pick the ‘Speech’ option, followed by ‘Start Speaking’. To change the voice, visit ‘Diction and Speech’ in System Preferences. Since we’re partial towards English accents, we like ‘Daniel’ from United Kingdom read out our articles to us.

    2. No, you don’t need to print a document to sign it.

In this age of technology, did you really think you had to print a document, sign it, and then scan it again? No. Those days are long gone. You can have signatures saved up on your Mac for quickly sending out a document.

To save your signature, launch the Adobe Reader, pick ‘Tools’ from the top bar and then ‘Annote’. Which will then give you the option to manage your signatures. Now ‘Create Your Signature’ by signing a white piece of paper and holding it up for the camera which has been launched.

This might sound like a tedious procedure, but it’s way better than relying on your printer/scanner in the future. Not just that, you can save multiple signatures at the same time.

    3. Too Lazy to Open the Calculator? No Problem.

You can use the search bar of your computer to work out a quick calculation. It isn’t too hard to locate a calculator on your desktop, but this trick saves that extra second.

    4. Selective Screenshot

We’re all aware that by using Command + 3, you can screenshot the entire screen, but have to tested out Command + 4? You can pick and choose exactly the area of the screen you’d like to grab, without getting the unnecessary background of your desktop.

    5. Quickly hide your browser

For times when you’re sneakily keeping up with the Kardashians, this is a nifty trick everyone should know. Command + H, and your browser is instantly hidden. We suggest you keep an official looking document in the background, just to add authenticity.

  • Apple Registers 40% Increase in India Revenue, Hits $1 Billion Mark in FY 2015

Apple Registers 40% Increase in India Revenue, Hits $1 Billion Mark in FY 2015

We’re sure Apple wouldn’t have thought that the Indian market, which was at the bottom of their priority list, could help increase the revenue of the company to such an extent. The Cupertino-based tech giant has recorded a whopping revenue of $1 billion in India in the fiscal year 2015. The present earning of the firm is 40 percent more than Rs. 4,500 crore of returns registered last year, and is three folds of the what was reported in 2011-12.

Apple hasn’t filed its final revenue details until now, but according to a source at Times of India, the firm can log the same with Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) anytime soon. Experts unfolded that the latest devices, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, have contributed largely to the sales income. With access to unit sales figures over the year and experts remark, Apple’s India revenue is computable. As per an analysis by Cybermedia Research, Apple has sold 1.3 million phones in the fiscal year 2015. Considering the high price of the latest models, it is evident that the company has made a total revenue of over $1 billion in the India market.

    apple-iphone 6

At a time when Apple is witnessing increased sales, Samsung is steadily losing its hold over different markets. The Korean electronics giant released a performance report of the last three months, which shows 30.5 percent dip in the profits. This was Samsung’s sixth consecutive year-over-year fall in quarterly profit, where it registered 60% fall in profits over the last quarter.

India is emerging as one of the fastest growing tech markets and a battleground for many top smartphone leaders. Such examples will only encourage tech enterprises to conquer our nation’s market and establish themselves on the Indian soil. Meanwhile, many Chinese firms spread over US and UK are now citing the Indian sub-continent as profitable marketplace for investment, and plan to enter the country soon.

  • Apple Finally Gives India the Attention it Deserves, Plans to Set Up More Than 500 Stores

Apple Finally Gives India the Attention it Deserves, Plans to Set Up More Than 500 Stores

India is fast becoming the go-to market for technology-based companies to try out their luck. A growing middle class with its increased purchasing power is growing more comfortable with experimenting with offerings of various companies. Almost every global company sees India as a potential market for their product. Every company is trying to impress the Indian consumer with better features and improved updates. Apple too understands the importance of this market and hence is pushing for an aggressive growth in the number of stores across the country.

The Cupertino-based technology superpower is planning to set up over 500 stores across the length and breadth of India. The company seems to have finally recognized the importance of our country to increase their hold on the international market. The company is already a major player in next door China and actively competes against the big brands there.

Meanwhile, India has mostly been Android dominated. A mass variety of offerings based on everyone’s preferences and budgets are available in the Android ecosystem. iPhones and other Apple offerings are seen as aspirational, as well as often berated for their high price values. But there is still a large Apple fan base which is almost as fanatical in support of the products from the company.

    iPhone 6 8

The stores will be set up in smaller towns and cities such as Amritsar, Pathankot, Moga, Coimbatore, Trichy, Nagpur and Nasik as the company sees a big number of potential consumers there. These stores are going to be small though, about 300-600 sq ft as opposed to the ones in bigger cities with a size of 2,000 sq ft. Apple will also be increasing its investments in direct advertising in the country.

Apple has been in India since 2011 but has till now operated with two distributors, Redington and Ingram. It is not sure as of yet how the business plan will incorporate the distributors as of yet. It is anticipated though that the company might adopt a franchise model to bring its products to the consumers. Reliance is also one of the reseller for Apple and had a 5 year contract with the company. But Apple might drop this partnership as they feel the service offered by Reliance is not up to their standards.

It sure is a great thing that Apple is putting its focus on the Indian soil. The setting up of 500 stores also means that any release by Apple will immediately come to India. This will surely increase competition amongst other brands to counter the giant. In the end, the winner will be the Indian consumer, who is already getting giddy with all the amazing options to choose from.

  • Apple to launch the iPhone 5S and 5C in India by Oct 20th

Apple to launch the iPhone 5S and 5C in India by Oct 20th

Apple yesterday announced the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, two new iPhones that are set to replace and enhance the experience you get from the current generation iPhone 5.

In the US and several other countries the Apple iPhone 5S and 5C will go on sale starting September 20th 2013, however no concrete information was available on their launch dates in India.

Apple sources close to iGyaan have let us know that Apple India is planning to bring the new iPhone 5C and the 5S to India as early as Oct 20th. The iPhone 5C which will be a replacement of the iPhone 5 will actually cost as much as the iPhone 5 does today, Rs. 44500 for 16GB. This is thanks to the inflated costs of Dollar vs Indian Rupee. The iPhone 5s however will launch for upwards of Rs. 50,000 for the 16GB variant making the 64 GB iPhone 5s the most expensive smartphone till date in India, since it will cross the Rs. 65,000 barrier.

Apple saw a 400% growth in the past year in India, and it thanks quick availability and easy payment schemes for it. Last year Apple was able to sell out its initial stock of 20,000 iPhone 5 units in one day, this year the company plans to bring in over 100,000 units at the time of launch, this number will include a variation of iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S in all colors.

India as a market has shown some real potential, and Apple wishes to remain at the forefront of technology. We have been planning the launch for over a month prior to the announcement yesterday, and it should happen in Oct, if the Cupertino office is in line with our Ideas.

Many claim that Apple may not have the same impact in the market with the iPhone 5C or iPhone 5S as they did with the iPhone 5, because of the lack of innovation in these new products.

Apple is hoping that the new Touch ID security features will enable a lot of business folks, who prefer Samsung phones/ Blackberry devices, to easily pick the iPhone 5S thanks to the rock solid security.

  • Apple iPhone’s India Sales Grows By 400%, Are EMI Schemes To Thank?

Apple iPhone’s India Sales Grows By 400%, Are EMI Schemes To Thank?

India has become Apple’s test bed for emerging markets, with the company rolling out a series of discounts and payment plans in order to entice purchases and improve its market standing in the 1.24 billion people market.

According to analyst Sunil Tirumalai, Apple’s equal monthly installment (EMI) and cash-back programs have jump-started sales in India, which used to be around 70,000 to 80,000 units per month before the aggressive pricing schemes, reports Economic Times.

These efforts are paying off as iPhone sales have risen 400 percent over the past four months.

Tirumalai says the benefit of the new initiatives is clear, “The 4-9 percent implicit discount coupled with the option of easy EMIs spread over 6-12 months became popular. Within a few months, our discussions with handset retailers indicated that iPhone sales went up 3-4x, forcing companies to respond.”

Based on those numbers, Apple only trails Samsung in terms of overall sales in the country. Samsung, however, offers a much larger range of devices in India, including entry-level smartphones and feature phones which attract less well-to-do buyers.

    apple

Apple’s recent success in India also followed a rebranding of the iPhone as an affordable product rather than a high-end luxury item.

Apple had introduced the cash back scheme for its iPhone 4. Under this scheme consumers had to bring in their old smartphone and could take home a brand new iPhone 4 at a minimum discount of Rs. 7,000. As per the conditions of the scheme, Rs. 5,000 was the cash back discount given and the additional Rs. 2,000 was the minimum resale value pegged for the old smartphone.

If the consumers tried to exchange a smartphone, whose resale value was more than Rs. 2,000 then the effective cash back to them was Rs. 5,000 plus the value the resale of the phone. Initially, the scheme was launched for just 15 days. However, given the popularity the scheme was extended till May.

Even now, Apple is running a scheme, where in students are eligible for Rs. 7,777 discount on purchase of Apple iPhone 4. Apart from this, the American Express card holders can get an additional 10 percent on purchasing this smartphone.

Apple also sells older models of the handset in India that pre-date the iPhone 4 and are not officially sold by the company in any other country.

  • Apple iPhone sales boom in India after trade-ins,Discounts and Payment Plan EMI schemes

Apple iPhone sales boom in India after trade-ins,Discounts and Payment Plan EMI schemes

Apple is furiously trying to create the brand image, they have worldwide, in India as-well. With the launch of new Student and Trade-in offers Apple presently offers a discount of Rs. 7000 for Trade-ins from non students and a discount of Rs. 7777 for Trade-ins from Students with a valid ID. These trade-ins are valid for any phone in working condition with a charger ( yes your old Nokia with a torch will do )

Another offer for American Express Credit Card holders ensures a 6000 Refund/ Cash back on either the  4, 4S, or 5 before June 10, this requires owners to swipe their AMEX cards and pay the rest of the money in EMI or installments with zero interest.

India has usually been one of the last countries on Apple’s radar, but with the iPhone 5, Apple seems to have changed their approach towards India. India was one of the first few countries to get the iPhone 5, which sold out on Launch day. To curb declining sales Apple launched EMI and Installment plans, after which there has been tremendous growth in the overall sales of the company.

Apple is also planning to triple its sales operations in India, with the launch of a Apple owned Retail store expected in the 2nd quarter of 2014, Apple will also have over 200 reseller locations by 2015. Apple devices took roughly 15.6 percent of smartphone revenue in India which pegs the company at second place behind Samsung whose total was roughly 38.8 percent share. However till 2011-2012 Apple only has 3-4 % market share, and in terms of growth numbers this is almost a 5 times increase for the company.

The iPhone 5 has not officially been announced, but we have been tracking its progress from the day it was announced in the US. The iPhone 5 is arriving at stores on the 28th of Oct and may go on sale as early as the same day. Some stores, including iStore (Reliance-Apple tie up) is saying that they will be allowed to sell the phones only on the 2nd of November. Most third party retailers known to iGyaan are sticking with the Oct 28th delivery dates.

The iPhone 5 price has been finalized at the earlier speculated Rs.45,500 for 16 GB with only one year warranty as always  and not the Rs. 47,999 price mark (supposedly including the 2 year warranty). Apple is expecting big sales with the iPhone 5 in India, and claims that they will sell atleast double of what they sold last year with the iPhone 4S.

Apple is also pegging big on iPhone and iPod sales this year, and has also enabled localization of apps in the App Store to show prices in Rupees instead of US dollars.  The nano sims that will work with the new iPhone 5 are already at network providers and Vodafone has confirmed that they are ready with sim cards in major metropolitan cities for the iPhone 5 influx.

Apple is pegging big on their new mini iPad and expect it to sell well during what is the festive season of the Indian subcontinent. Apple’s iPad Mini has been long rumored, in fact Apple is supposedly working on the iPad mini for several years. Leaked images and casings along with camera modules, back panels and  even displays of the supposed iPad have been found before the actual release.

If Apple does infact release an iPad Mini on the 23rd Oct event, the pricing will determine its final market worth and also will determine how well it will do in India, provided the above speculation is true.

The current leaked pricing of the iPad Mini starts at Euro 249 for the basic variant which should peg it between Rs 15000-20000 in India.

Apple iPad Mini will supposedly sport a 7.85 inch Retina display, along with new gen chipsets, will run on iOS 6 and will be available in both WiFi only and with a cellular option. Apple is holding the special event on the 23rd of October to announce not only the new iPad Mini, but will also launch upgraded Mac Minis and new iMacs and Retina Macbook Pro 13 inch versions. Apple Cinema displays are also long overdue for an upgrade, which might happen on the 23rd event too.
