Samsung Galaxy Fold Up For Pre Registrations In China, To Launch Next Month

Korean technology behemoth Samsung announced its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold back in the month of February. However, just before the device’s official launch which was scheduled for April, review units of the handsets started breaking. The company then had to recall all the smartphones and postponed the release indefinitely. Samsung then announced last month that the problems plaguing the device have been fixed and it will finally be released in September. Now, the claims seem to be rightly addressed as the ambitious foldable handset is up for pre-registration in China.

The aforementioned news arrives after Samsung has started taking pre-registration for the Galaxy Fold on its official Chinese website. There is no shipping date mentioned, so nothing can be said on when the smartphone will start making its way into the market. The pricing for the device remains the same as announced, US$ 1980 (INR 1,36,500), so no changes there. Whatever said, it seems like the company is confident on the device and rightfully so, as in its last press release Samsung listed out all the changes it has made to make sure the Galaxy Fold is durable; and can stand the test of time in the real world.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Fold has passed through some design and construction improvements to be certified for a relaunch. These improvements include the extension of the top protective layer of the inside display. The new layer now makes it apparent that it is an integral part of the display and should not be removed.

The updates to the foldable smartphone also include additional reinforcements to further protect it from external particles while maintaining its folding mechanism. Along with the aforementioned changes, the handset will also feature protection caps on the top and bottom of the hinge area; while also reducing the space between the hinge and the body of the device. If Samsung goes forward with the September release of the Galaxy Fold, it would rival the spotlight Apple’s next iPhones will get which are also due in a couple of weeks. Whatever be the case, we will not have to wait too long to find out.

Samsung Claims The Galaxy Fold Has Been Fixed, To Relaunch In September

Korean electronics giant Samsung launched its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold back in the month of February. At the event, it was announced that the device will be commercially available starting the 26th of April; however, a few weeks before its release a few Galaxy Fold review units started breaking. Many known technology journalists reported that due to a design flaw, the handset’s inside display can easily be compromised.

Samsung then announced that it is taking some time to fix the smartphone and will launch it again at a later date. Months passed, but there was no definite time bracket from the company. Until now, as it has claimed in a press release that all the issues plaguing the Galaxy Fold have been fixed and the device will be relaunched in the month of September.

The images shared by Samsung of the redesigned Galaxy Fold reaffirm its claims as the mentioned changes are visible, although only subtly. While the foldable smartphone has been redesigned, the company claims its price will remain the same, that is US$ 1,980 (Rs. 1,36,500). While Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Fold will launch in September, no specific launch date has been provided. It is also not certain why the company is not announcing the device at the Galaxy Unpacked event next month, where it is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 10. It is speculated that it is being done to not steal the spotlight away from either of the two handsets. Whatever may be the case though, we will not have to have to wait too long to find out.

Samsung Re-Engineers The Galaxy Fold, May Launch With Galaxy Note 10

Samsung’s first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold was unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event that took place in the month of February. However, due to the display issues faced by early users of the smartphone, Samsung had to push back its launch date. Unfortunately, Samsung could not ship out the devices even at the revised date.

Amidst all the embarrassment that Galaxy Fold has brought to Samsung’s brand image, a latest piece of information suggests, that the company has finally fixed the device which is expected to launch soon.

Samsung Galaxy FoldAccording to a Bloomberg report, with the latest iteration, Samsung has stretched the protective film that covers the Galaxy Fold’s display and tucked it under the outer bezels. Therefore, it is impossible for a user to peel it, unlike prior which was observed with early units shipped to reviewers. In addition, Samsung has also re-engineered the hinge of the Galaxy Fold which now sits flush with the display. Hence, the second issue that was reported in the form of a visible crease has also been fixed.

Besides, the report states that Samsung is likely to start shipping the major components of the Galaxy Fold (including battery and display) to an assembly plant in Vietnam where it will be put together.Samsung Galaxy Fold

Except for the updated display and consolidating hinge, the updated Galaxy Fold is assumed to retain features as the original device which are as follows:

The Galaxy Fold has an unconventional design which as the name suggests can fold into half. It features two displays out of which one is present on the outside and one on the inside. The company refers the 7.3 inch Dynamic AMOLED foldable panel as ‘Infinity Flex’ which has a resolution of 2152 x 1536 px. On the other hand, the main display measures 4.6-inch diagonally and has an HD+ resolution.

The Galaxy Fold is kitted with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC which is made using a 7nm fabrication process. It contains an Octa-core CPU combined with an Andreno 640 GPU. In terms of storage, the device features 12GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. It is powered by 2 batteries with a total rated capacity of 4,380mAh. In addition to fast wired charging, it also supports wireless charging.

The claim of Galaxy Fold’s availability goes in line with the statement made by a senior Samsung executive. In the month of June, the aforementioned executive claimed that all the issues on the Galaxy Fold have been resolved and the device will soon hit the shelves.

Speaking of the Galaxy Fold’s availability in India, it is expected to be launched in the country only after the launch in major markets like the US which as previously mentioned is expected to happen by the end of this month. Therefore, Indian consumers who are waiting for the Galaxy Fold could expect to get their hands on one, sometime in the month of August.  Galaxy Fold Rear Screen

Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G Receives FCC Certification Before Launch

Samsung was one of the first companies to launch a foldable smartphone. The Galaxy Fold was first introduced in February 2019 and had a scheduled launch date set later in April. Unfortunately, the commercial availability of the device has since been delayed due to multiple instances of malfunctioning caused by a premature release.

It is now reported that Samsung will also launch a new Galaxy Fold variant capable of 5G networking, as seen in an FCC (Federal Communications Commission) certification.

    Galaxy Fold

The South Korean electronics company will most likely launch the upcoming 5G variant alongside the standard Galaxy Fold model. The tech giant has reportedly fixed all the issues that had plagued the device pre-launch and is expected to be available soon. Both the 4G and 5G variants of the Galaxy Fold will probably have identical features and specifications, except connectivity and battery size. The standard version is a dual SIM device with 4380mAh battery capacity while the 5G model is only equipped with a single SIM and slightly smaller 4235mAh battery.

    Samsung Galaxy Fold

5G network bandwidth has yet to see widespread commercial adoption in various countries developed and developing alike. In countries like India where even 4G network has not had complete penetration, it is unlikely to see the release of any devices capable of the faster bandwidth. South Korea, on the other hand, has seen great integration with 5G and devices capable of it. Samsung’s Galaxy S10 5G is one of the biggest examples with over 1 million units sold in just a short amount of time.

Besides, Samsung has reportedly been working on a new foldable smartphone with a curved edge. It is highly unlikely that any of the aforementioned foldable phones would sport the new design immediately. Since Samsung has announced that a new foldable phone will be launched annually, it is probable that the Galaxy Fold 2 may incorporate the new aesthetical feature.

The Galaxy Fold is a revolutionary smartphone which had a failed start. Samsung has stuck to the device and is planning to make good on all the promises it has made for its customers. The upcoming foldable handsets are expected to release around the launch of the Galaxy Note 10, probably between August end and September. More information regarding this will soon be available in the coming weeks.

Samsung Fixes Galaxy Fold And Is Ready For Launch

Foldable smartphones were all the buzz early this year with Samsung being at the centre alongside its highly anticipated Galaxy Fold. However, the smartphone that was expected to launch in April to the global audience had been inevitably delayed. The reason for this was the display issues faced by influencers which were sent pre-release units. Unfortunately, most of these units had fatal flaws that caused Samsung to take a step back. The Korean giant now claims that Galaxy Fold has been subjected to some changes and is finally ready for the world.

Huawei in a statement had held off from releasing its own Mate X foldable handset, fearing a similar reception as Samsung. The Galaxy Fold had ensured Samsung’s win in unveiling the first foldable smartphone but lost the quality in its product. All in all the device had proven to be rushed with its various screen related problems, the very aspect which was key. Ever since then Samsung has publicly announced that it has fixed issues that were plaguing its foldable devices screen. The tech giant further on, even claimed that the Galaxy Fold is even ready to be shipped to the international market.

The news was broken down by a senior company executive and Samsung is expected to bring an official announcement soon regarding the commercial availability. Notably, the company’s spokesperson’s have had a varying degree of replies to the initial debacle faced by the Galaxy Fold. The month of May had seen the company claim the device is ready, which was followed by a report that detailed how no progress was made. The latest announcement was made directly by Samsung’s Vice President and are likely to be more reliable than the ones in the past.

The Galaxy Fold is confirmed to launch soon by the company, although exact details have yet to be discerned. Speculations have popped up that even point at launch right before the upcoming flagship, the Galaxy Note 10. Since the initial release was planned for the US in April, it may see a similar trend in the coming weeks. Information will be available once updates are given out by the company.

Samsung Galaxy Fold To Be Delayed Further, Might Launch After August

Samsung introduced its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold at the Unpacked event back in the month of February alongside the Galaxy S10 series. It was revealed that the sales for the device will start from the 26th of April. However, early review units of the handsets started breaking and malfunctioning for reviewers. This led to the company recalling all review units and release a statement that the launch date of the Galaxy Fold has been delayed. It has been over two months now, and no official re-launch date for the smartphone has been provided by Samsung. Now, a senior company executive has told a Korean media outlet that the launch is being delayed further, as no progress has been made on the device.

    Galaxy Fold Delay

    Samsung Galaxy Fold

As mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy Fold has been delayed once again in hitting the market. While it was being speculated that the smartphone will be reintroduced in the month of July, a senior Samsung executive has revealed that is not the case. He claims that if a launch was scheduled within a month from now, an announcement would have been already made. It has also been revealed that no progress has been made since the recall of the device in the month of April. It may insinuate that the company has not found a real solution for the hinge problem with the handset, or it hasn’t progressed with a new launch date. With the latest news of a delay, the Samsung Galaxy Fold may be launched after the Galaxy Note 10; which is speculated to launch in the month of August.

Some reviewers inadvertently peeled off a protective covering (which acted as an adhesive), leading to screen breakage. Others had issues arising because of the material (dust and debris) that entered the gap in the phone’s hinge. Even though the company previously claimed that it has successfully eliminated all the problems with the device, a statement regarding the launch date is still awaited.

AT&T To Cancel All Galaxy Fold Pre Orders

Samsung’s premier foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold is highly awaited by customers who preordered the device back in the month of April. The smartphone has been a centre of buzz being the first foldable device from the company in the market. However, when the handset started breaking for some reviewers across the globe, the company had something to be worried about. Previously, the company had announced that the Galaxy Fold units will be shipped out to customers in the month of June, but since then, no update has been provided by the concerned authorities. In the light of the event, American telecommunications conglomerate, AT&T has cancelled pre-orders for the Galaxy Fold smartphone.

All the customers who pre-ordered the $1,980 Galaxy Fold device received notices from AT&T stating that their order has been cancelled. Even though customers would again be able to place orders when Samsung announces an official launch date, those who were waiting eagerly for the rollout of the device will be quite disappointed about this.

The email from AT&T clearly informs that the order is only being cancelled because Samsung delayed the launch of the Galaxy Fold, clearing all responsibilities from its side. As compensation, the company also provided a US$ 100 AT&T Promotional Card to the customers who pre-ordered the device, which will be delivered within 60 days. Any funds held on to the customer’s card will be released immediately as stated by the company.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Ready To Launch Next Month

The revolutionary Galaxy Fold was first unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked Event in February 2019, and being the first one of its kind in the market, it had a lot riding on its shoulders. After an issue with the smartphone’s display came to light, the company recalled multiple review units and postponed the initial launch date for the same (26 April, 2019). However, as per latest reports, Samsung has overcome the hurdles that it previously faced and will re-launch the device next month.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Rear ViewReports state that the South Korean company will test out the updated Galaxy Fold models with three US mobile carriers in the month of June. Furthermore, launch date in the same month will be confirmed by Samsung itself in the upcoming days. This will be a relieving piece of news for those who had pre-booked the smartphone and wanted to get their hands on the Galaxy Fold earlier than other consumers.

    Issues In The Galaxy Fold

The first reports of the underlying issues with the Galaxy Fold’s display surfaced around 17 April 2019. Thereafter, many noted reviewers had stepped forward and reported that the inner display of the foldable device has stopped working. The major cause for the issue was later found out to the removal of the outer screen protector over the inside display. The South Korean company had bundled instructions along with the device indicating that the removal of the screen protector can lead to malfunction in the display. However, some devices still faced the same issue even without the removal of the screen protector.

Reportedly, some reviewers also pointed out the handset’s susceptibility to dust and debris owing to the gap in the hinge at the bottom of the smartphone. To fix the aforementioned issues, Samsung is speculated to introduce a protective plastic coating under the device’s frame, making it really difficult for a regular user to peel it off and cause screen issues. Also, the hinge gap will be reduced in order to make it less vulnerable to foreign material. Hopefully, the company’s attempt at fixing the problems will be fruitful. Noteworthy, even after the re-launch of the Galaxy Fold, it will still be the first foldable smartphone in the market, holding it’s edge over other brands.

    Samsung’s Statement

Samsung in a press release has confirmed the reports floating online since yesterday. While the company announced the handset will be available for customers starting April 26, early review units were provided to a few journalists in the US. The Issue

The first reports of the Samsung Galaxy Fold breaking for some reviewers started arriving on Wednesday. A noted journalist from media house Bloomberg tweeted a photo of his smartphone with the inside display not functioning completely. After that, many more reviewers stepped forward and reported they were facing a similar issue wherein the display on the inside stopped functioning. At the time, it was unclear if it was a hardware issue or physical damage was inflicted on the handset. A few people even reported facing issues of dents or physical damage to the screen just by opening and closing the folding mechanism.

    The Cause

While it didn’t apply for everyone, the major cause for the display malfunction was later reported to be the removal of the outer screen protector that was applied to the inside display. Samsung mentioned in the instructions the protective film shouldn’t be removed under any circumstances as it may lead to the smartphone malfunctioning. However, some cases wherein the layer have not been removed the device still faced issues in the inside display. In a bid to control the outburst and panic caused by the same, Samsung has released a video showcasing the durability of the folding mechanism of the Galaxy Fold.

In a 34 second video released by Samsung, multiple Galaxy Folds are being opened and closed simultaneously. The company has claimed that this has been tested 2,00,000 times. According to its estimates, if one opens the mechanism 100-150 times a day, the smartphone’s hinge may last up to 5 years of use. The test took a week of test to achieve the aforementioned number.
