Gearbox Reveals Borderlands 3 Trailer, Showcases Abilities & Characters

Borderlands 2 was released in 2012, and the game has retained its player base over the succeeding years. As per fans, the game is full of “gratuitous violence, crude humour and a boatload of guns”. The game featured a fun-to-play storyline with lovable characters like Maya (Siren) and Axton (Commando). On March 28 2019, the game’s developer, Gearbox Studios revealed the official trailer for the third instalment in the series, Borderlands 3.

    About The Trailer

The game trailer begins with two new characters treading in all their glory, and thereafter, Lilith (a playable character from Borderlands 1) is brought to the scene. The game trailer sheds some light on the new character in the game, which has a special ability that reveals six huge spectral arms. Further parts of the video showcase the combat mechanics of the game, including all the skill sets of the four playable characters.

Previously, the Soldier class of characters had abilities like a turret for offence and defence, but the redefined classes in Borderlands 3 include a large exoskeleton robot that accommodates the character. In addition, the trailer exposed a plethora of characters from the previous iterations of the game, including everyone’s favourite Claptrap, Aurelia, Sir Hammerlock, Maya and Brick, who was spotted playing a saxophone solo in the trailer.

As per the trailer, Borderlands 3 will feature over a ridiculous amount of 1 Billion Guns. Gearbox has been over the top before, but seemingly a lot of weapons won’t be unique, instead, they will be custom painted or custom modded. What’s more, a running gun was seen in the trailer. That’s right, a gun with legs. If Gearbox studios can pull this off, they can probably hit the “1 Billion Guns” mark as well.

    Expected Availability And Platforms

The game studio confirmed that more announcements regarding the game will be made on April 3, 2019. Interested fans can visit the Borderlands official website for more fascinating news regarding the third iteration of one of the greatest “looter-shooter” games of all time. In a joke of sorts, Gearbox did what Valve couldn’t – not stopping at Borderlands 2. The game will probably be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC since none of the prequels was designed to be exclusive to one single platform.

  • Google Unveils Stadia Cloud Gaming Platform And GamePad At GDC 2019

Google Unveils Stadia Cloud Gaming Platform And GamePad At GDC 2019

At a much-awaited event on March 19, Google launched a cloud gaming platform at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, which is named Stadia. Hints were being dropped by the company previously which had indicated that the company wants to enter the US$ 140 billion gaming industry. The newly launched platform will allow gamers to stream their games to all types of devices, including Chrome, Chromecasts and other Pixel devices.

    What Is Stadia?

Stadia will launch in the latter part of 2019, with only four major countries targeted as of now: UK, Canada, US and Europe. The company will take advantage of the huge viewer base of Youtube to help improve Stadia and mainstream the service into streaming and gaming. Gamers will be able to play any game they want directly from Google’s data centres, without actually downloading the game. According to the company, it has successfully tested the high resource-demanding Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on Chrome Streaming with flawless results.

Google’s new platform is not limited to a single game, rather, players will be able to purchase games from a variety of stores affiliated with it. Amongst other interesting features, Stadia will allow users to share gaming clips from their favourite moments during the gameplay which other users can just click on the game to instantly play it. The platform makes use of Virtualization and Advanced Cloud computing to make this possible.

As mentioned previously, the games will be streamable across a multitude of devices. Laptops, desktops, TVs and smartphones will be able to run the games without any glitches, Google says. Moreover, the company claims that the gameplay can be transferred “seamlessly” across various Google devices as well. Of course, latency and data centre availability will play a huge role in keeping the experience smooth and stutter-free.

    The Stadia Controller

Following the software, Google also launched its new controller, known as the Stadia Controller. The controller sports Google’s signature minimalistic design and connects directly via Wi-Fi to the game that the user is playing, not to the device he/she’s playing it on. Google states that by doing so, it will eliminate response delays between the hardware and the software, thereby ensuring lag-free gameplay.

The controller also features a “Google Assistant” button, which lets users pull up the voice assistant during the game itself and ask it relevant questions. For instance, if the gamer is stuck on a level and needs some help, he/she can directly ask the assistant regarding the level and get instant tips to complete it. The other special button on the controller is the Capture button, which lets the user capture a screenshot or a gameplay video for personal use or sharing purposes.

    Google Data Centres

Regarding computing, Google stated that it is continuously updating its Data Centres for better ping across all areas. Gamers were ecstatic when the company announced that upon launch, Stadia will support 4K games at 60 fps, with support for 8K/120 fps in the future. For achieving this milestone, Google will partner with AMD to build custom GPUs which will deliver 10.7 TeraFlops of power to each machine. Each module of Stadia will run on a 2.7 GHz x86 processor with 16 GB of RAM. Furthermore, Google also announced that one of the first games supported by Stadia would be Doom: Eternal, which is a first-person shooter with a huge fanbase.

    Other Features

It also includes support for cross-play, where gamers can play the same game across different platforms. Stadia offers game developers a chance to use its machine-learning based transfer tool, which will let developers drop an image into each frame of the video/game to transform the entire game into the image’s style. Moreover, State Share will let gamers share the exact state of their game via a URL, which can be clicked by users to launch a similar instance of the game on their own device. For streamers, Google introduced Crowd Play, where an advanced lobby system will let viewers play with or against their favourite streamers/content creators on YouTube.

Towards the end, Google announced its new Stadia Games and Entertainment Studio to develop and design new games for the community. The American company also stated that more than 100 renowned studios already have devkits for Stadia, so more games should be added to the library really soon.

As of now, Google has not come forward with a precise launch date for the platform, but rest assured that it will launch sometime during the end of 2019. Similarly, no pricing for the same was unveiled at the event. Google Stadia may face some serious competition from Microsoft’s upcoming XCloud Service, which will let users stream games directly via the Xbox and Steam’s upcoming game streaming service.

  • Facebook Mobile Application Update Introduces Dedicated Gaming Section

Facebook Mobile Application Update Introduces Dedicated Gaming Section

In a survey, it was discovered that Facebook Live Streams generated almost three times more views than those videos which are not live. Facebook live streaming is a major thing now, with content creators flocking to get their content noticed on the world’s most popular social media platform. More and more users have becoming aware of the fact that Facebook can be used for much more than just sharing images and posting comments. To address the growing gaming community, the American social media company has added a dedicated gaming section in its smartphone application.

    Features Of The Update

With an approximate 700 million users interacting with game-based content (as per Facebook), live streaming is becoming a platform to connect with gamers over social media. Previously, users discovered new gaming channels via their news feed, where they followed the streamer’s page and got notified every time they went live. To make it easier to find live games at one place, Facebook is rolling out an update which adds a gaming tab in the app navigation bar, using which gamers and other users can discover popular games being streamed around their area, as well as gaming content from the creators they follow.

The newly added Facebook Gaming Tab enables the user to:

    • Play Games: Facebook has a host of fun games that users can check out when there are no notifications waiting for them. Using the tab, gamers can play games, start chats with other gamers, invite their friends to play and share high scores with each other.
    • Watch Live & Offline Gaming Videos: If the user has followed a particular streamer/gamer, he/she will see the most recently published videos from that account. Moreover, as mentioned before, popular videos posted by game publishers and esports organizations will also be showcased in the tab. Based on the user’s preferences, Facebook will also recommend users new gaming content developers in the gaming tab.
    • Join Dedicated Gaming Groups: There is a huge number of gaming groups on Facebook for almost every game out there, where users can directly interact with like-minded people. The company states that Gaming groups are the most engaging communities of Facebook, so it would be interesting to see how Facebook will integrate gaming groups in the new tab.

  • Google To Launch A Gaming Console And Streaming Service At GDC 2019

Google To Launch A Gaming Console And Streaming Service At GDC 2019

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2019 is scheduled to take place from the 18th of March to the 22nd of March. The world’s largest game industry event will be held in San Fransisco, California. It is often seen as a platform to showcase and experience the future of gaming. Google, a company that is not generally associated with games and gaming, has teased its presence at the event time and again. In a fresh video shared by the company, it announced that it will showcase both gaming oriented solutions on the 19th of March.

    Google’s Gaming Hardware

While it is not clear what Google will announce or showcase at the event, reports claim the company is working on gaming hardware. The project has been codenamed ‘Yeti’ and has been in the works for a while. The event may see the company launching a gaming console, controllers and a streaming service. The teaser videos shared by the company include a text that reads “Gather around as we unveil Google’s vision for the future of gaming at the GDC 2019”. The video further shows hallways set in various sci-fi, fantasy, and racing-themed areas that match the gaming theme.

Google has also created a placeholder on its online store for the product that it will announce on March 19. This step seemingly confirms the presence of a hardware device at the launch as it is the only type of product the company sells on its online store. Multiple reports have asserted the Google Gaming console will just be used to connect with the game streaming service the company will announce at the event. The gaming on the device will be cloud-based and would require an internet connection to work.

Interestingly, Google’s new game streaming software may not be hardware dependent. As cloud games are capable of running on devices with humble specifications, the service may also be available for non-Google devices. However, the company might launch a gaming console anyway, which will best demonstrate what Google envisions of its gaming service. Whatever Google has planned for the 19th of March, we will not have to wait for long as the date is approaching fast.

  • Nvidia Announces New GPU Driver, Game Bundle & G-Sync Compatible Monitors

Nvidia Announces New GPU Driver, Game Bundle & G-Sync Compatible Monitors

Nvidia has given its users even more reasons to purchase its RTX series Graphic cards. The American technology company launched its RTX series of graphics cards in the second half of 2018, and they have been favourites amongst gamers and video editors owing to the new Ray tracing support. Now, the company is giving gamers the chance to take home a three-game bundle with the RTX graphic cards. Apart from this, Nvidia had a couple of other surprises for their gaming audience.

    Game Ready Driver

Nvidia released the new 419.35 game ready driver package that extended optimization for games like Apex Legends, The Division 2 and Devil May Cry 5. Since the launch of Apex Legends, a lot of players are facing random game crashes, followed by an error message. Forums were being spammed by gamers for solutions but no successful fixes were posted by the company. With the release of the new driver, players should be able to get rid of this issue. The driver update also includes some bug fixes and tweaks for high data consumption issues.

The patch notes are available below. Additionally, you can download the updated display driver here

    G-Sync Compatible Monitors

The list of G Sync compatible monitors is growing day by day, and now the latest driver package has introduced support for three new monitors with G Sync. The latest additions include:

    • Acer ED237 A
    • Acer XF250Q
    • BenQ XL2540-B/Zowie XL LCD

Nvidia is continuously testing new displays to see if they’re compatible with G Sync or not. Nvidia CEO says that the company will optimize the software that’s necessary to make the monitors G Sync compatible. If a user has a G Sync monitor, he/she can manually turn on G Sync support in the Nvidia Control Panel to check if driver support has been introduced for that specific model or not. However, Nvidia has warned the users not to experiment with the G Sync Nvidia control panel if their monitors are not certified by the same.

    Triple Threat Gaming Bundle

To keep gamers on their heels, Nvidia has announced that it will give away a game bundle containing three A-list titles with the purchase of each RTX series graphics card, laptop or gaming desktop. • The Highs And Lows Of Gaming In 2018

The Highs And Lows Of Gaming In 2018

The year 2018 has been tumultuous for the gaming industry. From match fixing, to mass banning of players to a new gaming style becoming the hot favorite – the year has seen it all! In this article let’s discuss all the high points and low points that we have seen in the gaming industry for PC, Mobiles as well as consoles.

    PUBG Banned Over 30,000 Players

PUBG the famous multiplayer Battle Royale game banned approximately 30,000 players from the game including 16 professional players. The players were accused of using cheat codes. The cheating techniques in question were Radar hacking. Radar hacking allows a player to know the exact location of opponents. This provides an edge to the player since he or she becomes more aware around enemies. The game also implemented a similar ban sweep back in June.

Still No Diablo Or Half Life 3

Diablo 4 was one of the most anticipated titles in 2018. But at BlizzCon, when the makers announced a mobile Diablo game instead of Diablo 4, the audience did not hesitate to show their displeasure. During the Q&A session, an audience member also enquired if Blizzard was playing an ‘Out of season April Fool’s Joke’ on the gamers. The company later said that they have heard the fans loud and clear and will take appropriate steps. Meanwhile, ‘Half Life 3 Confirmed’ still remain a meme and is nowhere to be seen. Valve is said to have shelved the game for good, much to the displeasure of gamers.

    Console Exclusives

Many gamers belonging to the ‘PC Master race’ complained of console exclusives this year. Many of the biggest titles this year was released as console exclusives and came to PCs much later. Games like Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War were highly anticipated but it seems like most games these days are first released for consoles. This makes PC gamers angry as they have to wait for months. Many streamers have also complained that this affects their business since by the time they receive PC versions of the game, it has already lost a lot of audience opportunity making them lose viewers.

    Micro- transactions And Paid DLCs

In the earlier days, if you bought a game, you would be playing the same game as anyone else. But nowadays, and specially in 2018, in-game micro- transactions, paid DLCs and even different versions of a game have made the experience bitter for a lot of people. In game micro- transactions include different skins for your character, different weapons or even different map styles in games like Dota 2. DLCs or Downloadable Content is another paid feature that many games have introduced. DLCs also include cosmetic changes or even extensive story-lines. We hope this changes in 2019 and we get a singular version for all players but in all possibilities, that wouldn’t happen.

Epic Games Sues 14 Year Old

Another extremely famous battle royale game banning two players. Fortnite not only banned the players from the game for cheating, but also took them to court. It has been revealed that one of the accused is only 14 years old. The game explicitly states that an underage person needs parental permission to play the game. The mother of the child has appealed to court stating that she did not give her son permission. This has caused a lot of furor as Epic games alleges that they have faced loss of profits and that the 14 year old helped create the cheat software. While Epic has had a very good year, we sure hope they resolve problems of cheating more maturely.

    CS:GO Team Cheats

A CS: GO team disbanded after a cheating scandal that erupted during the finals of a tournament. The player accused of cheating was Nikhil ‘Forsaken’ Kumawat, from OpTic Gaming India’s team and the tournament was eXTREMESLAND Asia finals. He was found to be using aimbot. Following the dismissal, OpTic gaming released the entire roster along with Kumawat and released a statement asking for forgiveness.

    Rise Of Battle Royale

The rise of battle royale mode was seen in 2018. This mode drops players in a map and they fight against each other, either alone or in a team, to emerge as the winner in the end. This format of the game gained ground with Playerunknown’s Battleground and later Fortnite. Several other games like Call Of Duty have also followed the path. These games are usually short in duration and require high levels of concentration. PUBG mobile has also become a trend with everyone with a decently specced phone are playing the game.

    Big Titles Released

The gaming industry was surrounded by controversies and cheating scandals throughout the year, but there were some high points as well One of them was the fact that 2018 saw some big gaming titles being released. These include games such as Monster Hunter: World, Red Dead Redemption 2, God Of War, Spider- Man, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Far Cry 5 and so many more. Gamers couldn’t ask for a better year in terms of big names and big companies bringing out games in a year.

    E- sports Becomes Career Goal

E- sports had always been considered as a passtime by ‘adults’ who thought playing games on the computer and consoles would just affect studies and would never contribute to a career opportunity. But the scenario is changing. Tournaments are shelling out millions of dollars in prize money, big brands such as Football Team PSG are sponsoring teams, SkySports and other channels are regularly featuring programs on E-sports and a lot more. It has become a phenomenon and playing E-sports is not considered to be ‘Child’s play’ anymore.

More Viewers For Game Streams In YouTube

YouTube used to be primarily for video content of all kinds. While some streamers shifted to Twitch, some like PewDiePie and  markiplier stayed on YouTube. It seems that YouTube has now shifted their focus on gamers a lot. With popular celebrities like Conan and even more recently Jack Black streaming games, the future for YouTube’s game streamers look quite bright.

Asus ROG Gaming Smartphone Launch In India Confirmed

Asus has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Zenfone 5Z in India. While the device is impressive, hands down its most attractive quality is its price. It will go on sale in India on 9th July at a starting price of Rs 29999. Another Asus device that has grabbed the headlines recently is the Asus ROG gaming smartphone, which was recently announced at Computex in Taipei. It has now been confirmed that the new gaming smartphone will launch in India in Q3 of 2018.

Speaking at the launch event of the Zenfone 5Z in New Delhi, Asus CEO Jerry Shen conceded that Asus has plans on launching the ROG phone in India in the third quarter of 2018. This essentially means that the device will launch in India before September ends.

For sure, we will launch the ROG phone here in India. I cannot tell you the exact date, but it will arrive in Q3. It is already Q3, so we have three months to do so.

From the images of the smartphone, at least, the Asus ROG phone looks like a quintessential gaming device. The ROG logo at the back has RGB lights which can be customised and be used as a notification light as well. The all-glass build is in line with modern flagship smartphones. The fingerprint sensor has a unique shape and gives off a very gamer vibe. Even the speakers have a unique placement, to make sure the sound is muffled while playing games in landscape mode.

The Asus ROG (Republic Of Gamers) smartphone has a 6 inch AMOLED display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Unlike the Zenfone 5Z, the ROG smartphone does not have a notch. Asus has certainly worked a lot on the display of its gaming device. The screen has a 1ms response rate, 1000:1 contrast ratio and a 108.6% DCI-P3 colour gamut. Moreover, thanks to a distinct image processing chipset, the display has HDR playback capabilities.

Under the hood, the Asus ROG smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset specifically overclocked to 2.96GHz (compared to 2.8GHz). The overclocked chipset is coupled with 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and 512GB of UFS onboard storage. To deal with the overheating caused due to intensive usage (something the phone is built to do), it has a vapour cooling system called GameCool. It uses a copper heat spreader and a 3D vapour chamber to transfer heat away from the processor and disperse it evenly around the body of the device.

Powering the smartphone is a 4000 mAh battery which charges via a USB C port. Out of the box, the ROG smartphone will run Android 8.1 Oreo. Apart from the USB C port and a headphone jack at the bottom, the device also has an accessory port on the left in the centre. This port can be used for charging the device while gaming so that the cable doesn’t hinder your gaming experience. This is a very smart move by Asus. The port can be used to connect AeroActive Cooler accessory.

To the back of the device is a 12MP primary sensor coupled with an 8MP secondary sensor. The dual camera setup is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps. The front of the device houses an 8MP camera. There are no details about the pricing of the Asus ROG smartphone as of now. • Honor Play Gaming Smartphone Running On Kirin 970 Launched

Honor Play Gaming Smartphone Running On Kirin 970 Launched

Gaming smartphones are gaining popularity by the day. After Razer, Nubia, Black Shark and Asus, Honor has launched its own gaming smartphone. After weeks of leaks, the Honor Play is now official and will be available in China exclusively for now. One of the highlights of this gaming smartphone is its pricing and should give other gaming Android devices a run for their money. The base model with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at CNY 1999 (Rs 21000 approx.) and the 6GB RAM model will retail for CNY 2399 (Rs 25000 approx.).

The Honor Play takes design cues from the likes of Honor 10. It follows the notch trend but, unlike the Mi 8, it has a narrower notch which can be hidden using software. The all-glass design with an aluminium frame is something we have seen already in devices like the Honor 10 and Huawei P20 Pro. The Honor Play is no different here. There is a special edition Honor Play with a textured back and two colour options which will be retail for CNY 2499 (Rs 26100 approx.).

The Honor Play has a 6.3 inch IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. Like the Honor 10, this translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio which will come in handy when users hide the notch. Once the notch is hidden, the display will revert to a more traditional 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the device runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC with a dedicated NPU for AI capabilities. This is the same SoC that powers the Huawei P20 Pro, which is priced at Rs 64999 in India. Honor claims that its new GPU Turbo technology not only improves the performance of the device but, runs games twice as stable as the Xiaomi Mi 8. This can only be tested once we get our hands on the device. Coupled with the flagship chipset is either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The storage is expandable via microSD card.

The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back of the smartphone at a central and ergonomic location. Powering the Honor Play is a 3750 mAh battery which, according to Honor, will last up to 1.5 days even after heavy usage. Again, we will test this once we get our hands on the device and won’t vouch for any claims the company makes. The Lenovo Z5 has taught us an important lesson here.

To the back is a 16MP primary RGB sensor mated with a 2MP depth sensor. The depth sensor will enable bokeh effect and portrait mode shots. The notch houses a 16MP camera with AI capabilities such as portrait lighting, like the iPhone X and Huawei P20 Pro.

At this price point, the Honor Play, at least on paper, looks like an impressive device. There is no information about whether Honor will make the Honor Play available in other markets like India.

New Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 Trailer Displays Gameplay Features

Konami, maker of the famous football video game series – the Pro Evolution Soccer, was present at Gamescom with a new trailer for Pro Evolution Soccer 2018. The latest trailer showcased some of the features that could be expected in the 2018 version of the game.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0FCfnmlEwI

Konami announced that the playable demo of PES 2018 will be out on August 30th for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. However, the demo won’t be available on PC  and the overall content hasn’t been confirmed just yet.

There will be 12 teams available to choose from – FC Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool FC, Inter Milan, SC Corinthians Paulista, CR Flamengo, CA Boca Juniors, Club Atlético River Plate, Colo Colo, Germany, Argentina, and Brazil. The stadiums included are Camp Nou and Signal Iduna Park.

There’s not a whole lot to the trailer other than plenty of gameplay and some fancy-looking cinematics. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder, David Beckham will lend his image to PES 2018. The 42-year-old will be featured as a legendary player in the PES 2018 ‘My Club’ mode on the game.

The American GPU maker, Nvidia, also released a trailer of PES 2018 PC version. The trailer is more of a demo for the Nvidia Ansel capture technology than it is a gameplay trailer, showing off actual in-game features. The new Nvidia Ansel technology will allow players to capture unique images from any point within a game. Provided you’ve got the right graphics card, you can capture professional-grade 2D, 360 degree, Virtual Reality 360-degree screenshots and even apply a wide-range of image filters. The PC version of Pro Evolution Soccer has never been well-received due to the inferior graphics as compared to its console counterpart.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 releases on September 12th for North America and September 14th in Europe and Australia. No official release date has been announced for other regions yet. The official game will be available for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
