  • Xiaomi Redmi 5 With 4GB RAM Launched

Xiaomi Redmi 5 With 4GB RAM Launched

In November 2017, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in China. Two budget-oriented devices with thin bezels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. At the time of its launch, the Redmi 5 was priced at CNY 799 (Rs 7,800 approx) for the 2GB RAM/16GB storage variant and CNY 899 (Rs 8,800 approx.) for the 3GBRAM/ 32GB storage variant. It is available in Black, Blue, Gold and Rose Gold colour variants.

    Redmi 5

In order to keep up with the market demands, Xiaomi has launched a 4GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5in China at a price of CNY 1099 (Rs. 11,000 approx.). The 4GB RAM variant, however, is only available in Blue, Black and Gold colour variants.

    Xiaomi Redmi 5 Specifications

    The Xiaomi Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch 1440 x 720 px display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the Redmi 5 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset, a 1.8GHz octa-core processor, Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage which will be expandable via microSD card. There is a fingerprint sensor placed at the back of the phone just below the camera.

    Redmi 5
    Redmi 5 Plus

Powering the device is a 3300 mAh battery which, Xioami claims has a standby time of up to 12 days. The battery is charged via a micro USB slot which means no fast charging. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack placed next to the charging port as well.

The Redmi 5 has a 12MP camera at the back with 1.25-micron pixel size. The camera surprisingly only records 1080P videos at 30fps. To the front of the device is a 5MP camera with Beautify 3.0, which is Xiaomi’s software for enhanced selfies.

It doesn’t look like the Redmi 5 will make its way to the Indian market. For starters, Xiaomi has strong contenders in the price segment and the Redmi Note 5 is expected to grab all the headlines if and when it is launched.

  • Vivo X20 Plus UD With In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Launched

Vivo X20 Plus UD With In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Launched

The launch of the Vivo X20 Plus UD was highly anticipated. Vivo, one of the top five smartphone manufacturers in the world became the first company to unveil a phone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The Vivo X20 Plus UD is not a prototype or a concept, it is a consumer-ready device with a fingerprint sensor placed inside the display.

Now, the company has made officially launched the device in China. UD, presumably, stands for “under display”. It will go on sale in China starting February 1st at a price of CNY 3598 (Rs. 36100 approx.).

    Vivo X20 Plus UD

    Specifications

The Vivo X20 Plus UD is basically the Vivo X20 Plus, with an in-display fingerprint sensor instead. It has a 6.43 inch Super AMOLED display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution which translates to an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset powers the device. The Vivo X20 Plus UD has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage which is further expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card.

The smartphone is powered by a 3900 mAh battery. The Vivo X20 Plus UD runs Android 7 Nougat out of the box. Since Android 8 Oreo was launched in August of 2017, this news is a bit disappointing.

To the back, it has a dual-camera setup consisting of a 24MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS along with a 5MP sensor. To the front of the phone is a 12MP sensor with a soft LED flash and an f/2.0 aperture.

    What Is Clear ID?

Clear ID lets users OEMs embed a fingerprint sensor under the display. Synaptics claims that it has a failure rate of 1 in 50,000 which, for a first gen product, is admirable. Early reviews of the device are in and mostly paint a positive picture. People have praised the accuracy of the sensor after initial usage. While it is slower than the OnePlus 5T, it is hard to complain when the process feels so futuristic.

The fingerprint sensor sits between the mainboard and the OLED panel where it illuminates the finger and then processes the beams of light. Hence, this technology will not work on LCD panel, at least for now.

Vivo has already listed the device on its official website in China. However, there is no word on its global availability yet. Considering the precedence that this phone has set, Vivo would want to launch the smartphone in other markets as well, since there will be a lot of suitors for a new technology like Clear ID.

  • Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ To Launch On 25th February

Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ To Launch On 25th February

Samsung will officially announce the eagerly awaited Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ on the 25th of February. The company has sent out press invites for the launch event which hints at a very important aspect. The invite simply has a large “9” on it along with the words “The Camera. Reimagined.” This is a huge hint that, as per some leaks, the Galaxy S9 devices will receive a huge camera upgrade.

    Samsung Galaxy S9
    Galaxy S9 Renders

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ were launched with a slight improvement in the camera department over the Galaxy S7. However, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will come with much better cameras this time around. According to a previous leak, the Galaxy S9 will have a 12MP camera with an f/1.5 aperture. It is worth noting that the Galaxy S9 will have a variable aperture this time around. With a variable aperture of f/1.5/ to f/2.4, the camera on the Galaxy S9 will be able to adjust aperture similar to a DSLR camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S9+ is poised to become Samsung’s second phone with a dual-camera setup. While the specifics are unknown as of now, it could have a setup similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note8. Leaks have also suggested that we might see higher frame rates in slo-mo videos on the Galaxy S9 for example, 1080P @ 480fps.

Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+: What Do We Know So Far?

The Galaxy S9 will have a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display while the Galaxy S9+ will have a 6.2 inch display. Both the devices will have a 2960 x 1440 px resolution.

    Samsung Galaxy S9
    Galaxy S9 Concept

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset (US and Korea), 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Like every Samsung smartphone, the onboard storage will be expandable via a microSD card. This time around, the fingerprint sensor will be placed below the camera. It will have an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and stereo speakers tuned by AKG.

As was the case last year, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will run on the Exynos 9810 chipset in all markets except the US and South Korea. The Galaxy S9 is powered by a 3000 mAh battery, similar to the Galaxy S8. Apparently, the fast charging technology won’t see an upgrade either as discovered in a new leak. This kind of 15W Adaptive Fast Charge has been present in Samsung flagship phones since the days of the Galaxy S6, so this doesn’t come as a surprise.

    Samsung Galaxy S9

Similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S9 will have a single 12MP SuperSpeed Dual Pixel camera. This time around, however, the camera will have an f/1.5 aperture and record super slow motion videos, probably at 960fps. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ will become the second phone from Samsung to feature a dual-camera setup on the back after the Galaxy Note8. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note8, the Galaxy S9+ will have a wide-angle and a telephoto lens setup.

There has been no word on the pricing of the smartphones yet. Samsung is, however, expected to launch the devices at a price similar to that of the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

  • Xbox One X Launched In India At A Price Of Rs. 44990

Xbox One X Launched In India At A Price Of Rs. 44990

Microsoft has launched the Xbox One X in India a few months after its global launch. The new gaming console will be available at a price of Rs. 44990 and will go on sale via Flipkart and Amazon. The Xbox One X will also be available to buy from select offline retail stores like Landmark and Croma.

Each Xbox One X will ship with a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial along with a month of Xbox Game Pass subscription trial. Talking at the launch, Priyadarshi Mohapatra, country general manager, Consumer & Devices Sales, Microsoft India said:

We are delighted to offer gamers the world’s most powerful console with access to the largest and most diverse games lineup in Xbox history, including Forza Motorsport 7, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Cuphead and Super Lucky’s Tale, out of more than 1,300 titles and more than 220 exclusives available on the Xbox One X, just a few short months after the device’s global launch.

    [amazon_link asins=’B075R6NQYL’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’igyaan-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’f5903da2-0029-11e8-be98-3daed61206df’]

The Xbox One X is a mid-cycle Xbox refresh from Microsoft but, has enough horsepower under the hood to grant it the label of being the most powerful gaming console in the world. Since the new console runs on the Scorpio engine, it is backwards compatible to run all 900px and 1080px Xbox one and 360 titles at upscaled 4K. Which means all existing Xbox One titles should look better on the Xbox One X due to enhanced visual fidelity, anisotropic filtering, and faster loading times. The new console will also work with all current Xbox One accessories, Microsoft has confirmed.

Xbox vs PS is the gaming version of iOS vs Android and this debate will not fizzle out anytime soon. The Xbox One X has whopping 6 teraflops of graphical power while the PS4 Pro ships with 4.2 teraflops of graphical power. The Xbox One X also has a built-in UHD Blu-ray drive and although PS4 Pro supports 4K, it does not include a UHD Blu-ray drive. It is worth noting that the PS4 Pro is priced at Rs. 38990.

  • Vivo X20 Plus UD With In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Is Now Official, Launch Set For 24th January

Vivo X20 Plus UD With In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Is Now Official, Launch Set For 24th January

It was a highly anticipated unveiling and one that would set the precedence for all the smartphone makers across the market. Vivo, one of the top five smartphone manufacturers in the world became the first company to unveil a phone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Not a prototype or a concept, a consumer-ready device with a fingerprint sensor placed inside the display.

Now, the company has made the device official in China as the Vivo X20 Plus UD. UD, presumably, stands for “under display.” While there is no word on the smartphone’s availability or price yet, it is expected to be priced at around CNY 3998, which is Rs. 39000 approximately. The smartphone will be officially launched on the 24th of January.

The Vivo X20 Plus UD is basically the Vivo X20 Plus, with a fingerprint sensor placed inside the display instead. It has a 6.43 inch Super AMOLED display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution which translates to an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage which is further expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card. It is powered by a 3930 mAh battery which charges via a USB C port.

To the back, it has a dual-camera setup consisting of a 24MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS along with a 5MP sensor. To the front of the phone is a 12MP sensor with soft LED flash and an f/2.0 aperture.

The technology found in the new smartphone is known as Clear ID and lets users OEMs embed a fingerprint sensor under the display. Synaptics has claimed that it has a failure rate of 1 in 50,000 which, for a first gen product, is admirable. Early reviews of the device are in and mostly paint a positive picture. People are praising the accuracy of the sensor while it is slower than other fingerprint sensors found on devices like the OnePlus 5T, it is hard to complain when the process feels so futuristic.

The in-display fingerprint sensor sits between the mainboard and the OLED panel where it illuminates the finger and then processes the beams of light. Hence, this technology will not work on LCD panels as the sensor looks through the dots of an OLED panel, and then recognises the fingerprint.

  • Sony Sends Out Press Invites For MWC 2018, Could Launch The Xperia XZ Pro

Sony Sends Out Press Invites For MWC 2018, Could Launch The Xperia XZ Pro

Sony has maintained a similar design language for its flagship smartphones ever since the launch the Xperia Z. It recently launched the Xperia XZ1 which also followed a similar design language with thick bezels and rectangular block build. However, all of this might change with the upcoming Xperia XZ Pro, Sony’s first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Sony has started sending out press invites for MWC 2018, scheduled to take place from the 26th of February to 1st of March. This is an indication that the upcoming flagship smartphone from Sony could be launched at MWC. Recent leaks have revealed a lot of key specifications about the Xperia XZ Pro.

It will have a 5.7 inch OLED display with 4K resolution, thin bezels and possibly, an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the Sony Xperia XZ Pro will have the Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of onboard storage. The storage is expected to be expandable via a microSD card. The fingerprint sensor is expected to be housed inside the lock button on the side. Although, with the presence of an OLED display, Sony could go ahead and use a screen embedded fingerprint sensor.

The device will be powered by a 3420 mAh battery which will support QuickCharge 4.0+.

The Xperia XZ Pro will have a dual rear camera setup, with one of the cameras having an 18 MP sensor with 1.33 microns pixel size and a 12 MP sensor with 1.38 microns pixel size. On the front will be a 13 MP camera.

The Xperia XZ Pro could be the beginning of a new lineup of smartphones from Sony. So far, Sony has strayed away from experimenting with the design of its devices and with more companies adopting the bezel-less design with an 18:9 aspect ratio as the new normal, Sony might have to force the issue and launch more devices with the new design.

The Xperia XZ Pro will also be one of the most few phones to be powered by the latest and greatest Snapdragon 845 chipset, the Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+ and potentially, the Xiaomi Mi 7 are the other three devices. Sony will also enter the realm of dual-camera phones, something that has gone from being an industry trend to a norm.

  • HTC U11 EYEs With Dual Front Cameras Launched

HTC U11 EYEs With Dual Front Cameras Launched

After leaking the device in its entirety on its own official website, HTC has launched the HTC U11 EYEs in Taiwan and China at a price of CNY 3299 (Rs. 32,000 approx.). The device will go on sale from the 25th of January with pre-orders starting today. Back in November, HTC gave in to the industry trend of no headphone jack and thin bezels with the HTC U11+ and now, the HTC U11 EYEs has a face unlock feature.

As expected the  HTC U11 EYEs has a 6 inch Super LCD3 display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution.

    Available in three colours

Like a lot of smartphones from HTC, it has the Edge Sense technology which allows users to squeeze the frame of the phone to launch a particular app or action. This feature can be customised to launch a specific action while inside a certain app.

The HTC U11 EYEs has a 12MP “UltraPixel 3” primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture, OIS and “UltraSpeed” autofocus. HTC has revealed a DxOMark score of 90, which is exactly the same as what the HTC U11 received, which probably means that it is the same camera. To the front is a dual 5MP camera setup which will work together to create a bokeh effect. The dual-camera setup also supports Portrait Mode and AR Snapchat-like stickers.

the HTC U11 EYEs might not make its way to India, especially considering that the previous two devices from HTC never saw the light of day in the Indian market. However, if HTC does plan to launch it in India, it will have to priced much lower than Rs. 32000 to stand any chance in the competitive mid-range segment.

  • HTC U11 EYEs To Launch On 15th January

HTC U11 EYEs To Launch On 15th January

HTC has confirmed what was being rumoured for a while now. The company will continue to diversify its HTC U11 moniker with a new mid-range smartphone, the HTC U11 EYEs. The company posted an invite on its Weibo account confirming that the U11 EYEs is real and will be launched soon.

In the image, the date mentioned is 15th January but, doesn’t mention the name of the device. However, in the accompanying post, it does mention ‘Eye,’ effectively confirming that the HTC U11 EYEs will be the centre of attention at the event. It looks like HTC wanted its VR products to be the highlight of its CES 2018 stint and that is why decided to unveil the new smartphone at a separate event.

The HTC U11 EYEs was leaked a few weeks ago by a popular leakster on Twitter. According to the leaks, the smartphone will have a 5.99 inch LCD3 display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution.

Under the hood, it is expected to have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which will be expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. Due to the thin bezels, the fingerprint sensor will be placed on the back of the phone since we are a few months away from using in-display fingerprint sensors on a majority of phones.

The HTC U11 EYEs will also have an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance along with HTC Sense feature which allows users to squeeze the frame of the device to launch a particular app or action. The surprising bit about the smartphone is also the software, as it appears that the HTC U11 EYEs will run Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, even though the HTC U11+ and U11 Life were launched with Android 8 Oreo out of the box.

The smartphone will be powered by a 3930 mAh battery which will charge via a USB Type C port.

Similar to the recently Samsung Galaxy A8+, the HTC U11 EYEs will have a dual 5MP camera set up along with a 12MP primary camera.

The HTC U11 EYEs may not make its way to the Indian shores as HTC has not launched a smartphone after the HTC U11 in India. The U11+ and U11 Life are yet to be announced in India and the U11 EYEs might be treated the same way by the Taiwanese tech giant.

  • OnePlus 5T Lava Red Colour Launched In India

OnePlus 5T Lava Red Colour Launched In India

Another week, another red colour variant of a popular smartphone has launched in India. After dropping hints on social media for the past few days, OnePlus has launched the Lava Red colour variant of the OnePlus 5T in India. The Lava Red colour will only be available in the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant and we are expecting it to be priced at Rs. 37,999. The device will go on sale on 20th of January via Amazon.

    [amazon_link asins=’B0756ZFXVB’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’igyaan-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’3625574e-f69b-11e7-bb87-8bb52ae72ae3′]

Just like the Star Wars Edition or the Sandstone White edition, the OnePlus 5T Lava Red has all the same specifications as the original Midnight Black OnePlus 5T which was launched in November of 2017. OnePlus has continued the trend of launching a “Limited Edition” and a new colour of its flagship device, something that it did with the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 3T as well.

A couple of months after the launch of the OnePlus 5, the company launched a Soft Gold variant and a limited edition Castelbajac OnePlus 5 in Paris which was exclusive to France. In the case of the OnePlus 3T, it was the Midnight Black colour variant.

    OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition

In late-2017, the company launched an India-exclusive Star Wars Edition OnePlus 5T and the Lava Red variant in China first, and now in India.

People who bought the Midnight Black colour variant right after the launch of the OnePlus 5T have expressed their disappointment at the launch of a new and exciting colour variant of their smartphone, just over a month after they bought it.

The OnePlus 5T Lava Red will be available in limited quantities and prospective buyers will have to be quick on the 20th of January after reports from China claim that the device was sold out within two hours after it went on sale. You can register for the sale by clicking here.

  • Honor 9 Lite Could Be Priced At Around Rs. 11,000 In India

Honor 9 Lite Could Be Priced At Around Rs. 11,000 In India

Honor, Huawei’s sub-brand has confirmed that it will be launching “a smartphone with four cameras” in India in January. Slowly, the company is revealing few key details about the device and while many would’ve thought that Honor 9 Lite was a result of mere speculations, its launch has now been confirmed. Honor announced that the upcoming smartphone will be a Flipkart-exclusive even though, the Honor 7X and Honor View10 are being sold via Amazon.

Ayyappan R, Senior Director, Smartphones at Flipkart said:

With the new upcoming Flipkart exclusive launch of Honor 9 Lite smartphone which is positioned on beauty & design along with flagship quad cameras the Flipkart – Honor partnership will further set new heights in the e-commerce market in India.

In China, the smartphone starts at a price of CNY 1199 (Rs. 11600 approx.) for the 3GB/32GB variant and goes up to CNY 1799 (Rs. 17400 approx.) for the 4GB/64GB variant. In India, Honor already has the Honor 7X priced at Rs. 12999 and the Honor 9i priced at Rs. 17,999. It might make sense for the company to launch the Honor 9 Lite at a price lower than that of the Honor 7X. In a price-sensitive market like India, a difference of even Rs. 1,000 can sway a consumer to one smartphone over the other. Hence, an inexpensive alternative to the Honor 7X or even the Honor 9i will be ideal.

This statement from Flipkart also confirms that the device will be named Honor 9 Lite in India as well. Honor is known for launching smartphones in the global market with a different moniker than its native Chinese market. In China, the Honor 9 Lite is available in three variants and if Honor does launch the device at Rs. 11,000 or thereabouts, it could launch the basic variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage and then price the high-end variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage at around Rs. 15,000.

Flipkart has also listed the device with 3GB and 4GB of RAM along with 32GB and 64GB of onboard storage. This means that the base variant will launch in India and could be an inexpensive alternative to the Honor 7X.

Samsung Launches Galaxy A8+ In India At A Price Of Rs. 32990

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy A8+ in India at a price of Rs. 32990. The device is an Amazon-exclusive and will go on sale in India from the 20th of January. At this price point, the Samsung Galaxy A8+ will compete with the likes of Honor View10 and the OnePlus 5T.

The Samsung Galaxy A8+ has a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2220 x 1080 px resolution which translates to an 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, it has an Exynos 7885 chipset, an octa-core (2.2GHz Dual + 1.6GHz Hexa) processor and Mali-G71 GPU. The Galaxy A8+ has been launched in only one variant in India, which has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Just like every other smartphone from Samsung, the onboard storage can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. The smartphone is IP68 rated for water and dust resistance and supports Samsung Pay for contactless mobile payment.

Powering the Galaxy A8+ is a 3500 mAh battery which is charged via USB Type-C port.

One thing that might come as a surprise, especially for phones launching in 2018 is the OS. The Galaxy A8+ will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with Samsung’s own custom skin on top.

The Galaxy A8+ is also the first of Samsung phone to have a dual-camera setup on the front. The Galaxy A8+ has a 16MP + 8MP camera setup with an f/1.9 aperture on the front. The Live Focus feature lets users chose whether the background should be in focus or blurred to a soft bokeh. The phone will switch between the two front cameras to get the effect the user needs. To the back of the phone is a 16MP camera with an f/1.7 aperture and digital stabilisation.

The Samsung Galaxy A8+ has a new design when compared to previous Galaxy A smartphones with a new Infinity Display. With the smartphone entering the “affordable flagship segment,” it has the advantage of an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance over its closest competitors, OnePlus 5T and Honor View10. With a chipset that isn’t a flagship, it will be interesting to see how many consumers are drawn towards the Infinity Display and its ruggedness.

Honor Drops Another Hint At The Launch Of The Honor 9 Lite In India

Huawei sub-brand Honor has recently launched two popular smartphones in the Indian market, the budget-oriented Honor 7X and the affordable flagship, Honor View10. The company is now gearing up to launch another budget smartphone with four cameras, similar to the Honor 9i which was launched a few months ago in India. Honor has dropped another hint that the device in question here could very well be the Honor 9 Lite.

The Honor 9 Lite was launched in China in late-December and has a camera setup similar to the Honor 9i, which retails for Rs. 17999 in India. The company, in a press release, has conceded that the upcoming device will have a glass unibody, exactly like the Honor 9 Lite:

Ensuring its consumers to stay connected while in style, the new smartphone will be equipped with a sleek looking glass unibody with mirror effect rear glass, similar to what has been seen in premium smartphones like Honor 8 and Honor 9, and other smartphones like Apple iPhone X.

The Honor 9 Lite shares a lot of similarities with the other two Honor devices in the sub-20K price categories, the Honor 7X and Honor 9i. The Honor 9 Lite has the same Kirin 659 chipset as the other two phones, a quad-camera setup like the Honor 9i and thin bezel-less design. THe differentiating factor here will be the build quality and most importantly, the price.

It has a 5.65-inch IPS LCD display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution which translates into an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the Honor 9 Lite has the HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset, an octa-core processor, the Mali-T830 MP2 GPU, 3GB or 4GB of RAM and storage options of 32GB and 64GB. It is worth noting that the onboard storage will be expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back and the bottom bezel on the front houses the Honor branding.

Powering the device is a 3000 mAh battery which also supports the Super Charge technology.

The Honor 9 Lite has four cameras. To the front and back, it has a 13MP + 2MP setup and both the setups record 1080P videos at 30fps.

The company has not hinted any date for the launch as of now and the price for the Indian market as well, is being kept under the wraps.
