OnePlus 7 Leaks: What We Know So Far

OnePlus is known to release a new phone every year, six months after their ‘T’ series release. So the new OnePlus 7 phone is due this March or April and we are stoked! Over the past few months there has been several leaks and speculations and in this article we list what we know about the much rumoured phone so far.

    No Notch

One of the recurring themes of the leaks so far have been the absence of a notch in the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 6 featured a full fledged notch while just six months later, the notch was turned into a water-drop one on the 6T. If this trend continues, the notch could very well be removed on the OnePlus 7.

Moreover, BBK Electronics owned Oppo and Vivo have both tried to remove the notch completely by using ingenious ways like sliding camera, sliding back panel etc. If trends are anything to go by, OnePlus has been known to borrow technology that has been well received by the market. A prime example is the in- display fingerprint sensor which first appeared on a Vivo phone and then was featured on the OnePlus 6T. The absence of the notch will mean the phone will either have a retractable camera or a sliding back.

    Optional 5G

The era of 5G is upon us and OnePlus being one of the industry leaders, won’t be far behind. The company has confirmed that a 5G model of the phone will be made available to the European market at a premium. OnePlus’ CEO also stated that the 5G model will be $200-300 more than the 4G one.

    More Than Two Rear Cameras

OnePlus 5 was the first phone in the company’s stable to feature dual rear cameras. With most high end smartphones like the Huawei Mate Pro being sold with three rear cameras, it won’t be a surprise if OnePlus goes the same route. This rumour also comes from our next point.

    Round Camera Bump

The rumour of the OnePlus 7 with more than two rear cameras comes from an image leak where OnePlus officials are seen using a phone with a round camera bump that looks quite big for two cameras. While it isn’t clear if the leaked photo is just a prototype phone or the upcoming OnePlus 7, it will be interesting to see how the company implements the three camera setup and what lenses they choose to put in it.

    Hardware Speculations

There are several specification leaks as well and some guesses based on past OnePlus device features about the hardware of the upcoming OnePlus 7. The phone will feature a Snapdragon 855 processor which is the latest flagship processor from Qualcomm. The OnePlus 6T has 6GB and 8GB RAM options with 128GB and 256GB  but we expect more from the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 7 will probably have 8GB and 10 GB RAM with 256GB and 512GB storage. The phone will also feature a larger and more efficient battery compared to the 3700 mAh battery seen on the OnePlus 6T.

The CPU consists four Kryo 385 Gold cores and four 385 Silver Cores. Memory & Storage:

The new limited McLaren Edition variant of the OnePlus 6T gets 10 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. In terms of internal storage, the device has 256 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. Both, LPDDR4X RAM andUFS 2.1 contribute in making the smartphone extremely fast. Like other OnePlus smartphones, it does not support memory expandability.

Over at the rear, the device gets dual 16 MP (Sony IMX 519) + 20 MP (Sony IMX 376K) camera sensors. Both the 16 MP and the 20 MP sensor are equipped with a f/1.7 aperture. The smartphone can also capture 2160p videos at 60fps from the rear cameras and 1080p videos at 30 fps from the front camera.

To support this rapid charge, both the phone and the charger now have an integrated circuit chip. OnePlus also ships the device with a Papaya Orange coloured braided cable which is essential to support the Warp charge. Furthermore, the McLaren Edition variant does not thermal throttle. • OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition Will Have 10 GB Of RAM

OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition Will Have 10 GB Of RAM

Compared to big players like Apple and Samsung, OnePlus is a fairly new company. But due to excellent features and aggressive pricing, their smartphones have already made a mark in the industry. Late last month the company announced their OnePlus 6T smartphone which is the successor to the remarkable OnePlus 6. Earlier this month the company launched a limited Thunder Purple variant of the same. To turn even more heads, the company has recently teased yet another upcoming limited edition variant of the OnePlus 6T. This time the company has collaborated with the British supercar maker McLaren. A report claims that the upcoming limited variant will have 10 GB of RAM and 256 GB of ROM.

McLaren Meets OnePlus: What To Expect?

Woking based McLaren is one of the first car company that springs to mind when one thinks about supercars. The company has won a large number of racing titles and is a big name in the global car scene. The upcoming McLaren F1 Edition OnePlus 6T device gets the tagline ‘Salute To Speed’ which clearly indicates that the company is cooking something speedy. The tip from mysmartprice about 10 GB of RAM could actually turn out true.

Till date, Xioami’s is the only company that offers a device with 10 GB of RAM which is the Mi Mix 3. However, that smartphone is only available in China currently. To bring this high spec feature to a wider audience, OnePlus can actually become the first company to offer 10 GB RAM smartphone to the global market.

    Release Date & Price

To summarise, these rumors will only be cleared up as the company officially announces the McLaren F1 Edition OnePlus 6T. The device is first set to launch in Woking, England (McLaren Headquarters) on the 11th of December which will be followed by its India launch on December 12. The price of the McLaren F1 Edition OnePlus 6T is currently available. But it is expected to be a sub 50K smartphone in India.

  • OnePlus May Launch A Phone In Partnership With McLaren

OnePlus May Launch A Phone In Partnership With McLaren

Most Chinese manufacturers these days have been known to team up with big brands such as Marvel, Lamborghini, Porsche and others. Joining the bandwagon, OnePlus might soon surprise us with a McLaren version of one of their phones. Oppo recently released the Find X Lamborghini edition and OnePlus has released Marvel’s Avengers edition phones in the past as well. Via tweets, both OnePlus and McLaren have announced a partnership.

OnePlus has also shared a video and written “Experience the #SalutetoSpeed” which can only mean a McLaren edition of their OnePlus 6T. Or atleast that is what the tech industry believes as of now. The announcement will be made on December 11, 2018.

This partnership is in line with OnePlus’ motto of ‘Unlock The Speed’ for their OnePlus 6T phones. This further cements the idea that the company will be bringing in a new edition with cosmetic changes from McLaren. Some are also speculating higher RAM and better performances from the McLaren version but it is too early to tell. McLaren is known to launch new cars with orange liveries. We suspect the new phone may have an orange tinge or an orange back.

The OnePlus 6T was launched in India on the 30th of October. The phone is the latest flagship from OnePlus. It has an array of new features including a bigger display, water-drop notch, in-display fingerprint sensor and more. However, at the time of the launch, the device was available in only two colours; midnight black and mirror black. But, keeping in mind the trend that OnePlus follows, we were sure that more colour options were on the way.

As mentioned before, keeping in mind the trend that OnePlus follows with the launch of its devices, we can expect to see a few more colour options for the OnePlus 6T in the future. This may include a limited edition which was earlier leaked. Another possibility is a special edition device representing  a movie, like the OnePlus 5T Star Wars edition and the OnePlus 6 Avengers edition.

One of the most attractive features is the in-display fingerprint sensor. It uses a  fourth generation in-display fingerprint sensor, which is extremely fast and responsive. It is one of the best in-display fingerprint sensors out there right now. What’s more, the fingerprint sensor gets more accustomed to your fingerprint every time you use it. This results in faster unlock speeds every time.

Under the hood, the Thunder Purple 6T packs a 3,700 mAh battery and has Dash Charging support. The phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and has 8 GB of RAM along with 128 GB of storage. OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple Edition Shown Off In Official Renders

Earlier this week, a listing had given us an idea about the existence of a OnePLus 6T Thunder Purple variant. The listing now seems legit as official press images of the same have now been leaked. The OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple sure does look great. It also hints at the fact that OnePlus may have some more variants of their latest flagship in store for us.

This trend was started way back with the OnePlus 5T. The 5T saw a limited edition variant launching sometime after the smartphone itself was launched. The OnePlus 6 also carried forward this trend by releasing two new colours, Silk White and Red, followed by an Avengers Limited Edition device. Keeping this in mind, it is safe to say that we might see the launch of many other colours and maybe even limited editions of the OnePlus 6T.

Last month, a listing on a German website had given us a glance at an Ultimate Edition’ OnePlus 6T. But it was taken down soon after. The listing detailed just a 100 pieces of this truly limited device. However, OnePlus is yet to make a comment on any new editions of the OnePlus 6T which we might see in the future.

    OnePlus 6T

The OnePlus 6T is the latest flagship by OnePlus. The phone sports a 6.41 inch Super AMOLED display with a water drop notch. It has a 2340 x 1080 px resolution and a 402 ppi density. The most striking feature is its in-display fingerprint sensor. The OnePlus 6T is power a 3,700 mAh battery which supports Dash Charging. Running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, it runs Oxygen OS based on Android 9 Pie, out of the box. The device has 6 GB and 8 GB RAM options along with 128 GB and 256 GB storage options. The display has Corning Gorilla Glass Protection and it is better water sealed due to the absence of a headphone jack. It has a 16 MP + 20 MP dual rear camera setup along with a 16 MP front camera.

OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple Variant Listed Online

The OnePlus 6T is the latest in the line of ‘flagship killers’ from OnePlus. The device sports a company-first, in-display fingerprint sensor, a water drop notch, bigger screen and battery and improved camera and performance. What the phone did lack at its launch, was a bit of colour. While the OnePlus 6T has a lot of colours on its AMOLED display, the device in itself is only available in Midnight Black and Mirror Black variants. This might change as a listing of the device showed an option that is sure to make you excited; the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple.

With such an exciting name, we just hope that the device looks as great as it sounds. The Thunder Purple variant was listed for a brief while after the Keynote at the New York launch ended on 29 October. It was taken down soon after, but not quick enough to escape the eyes of ever-so vigilant leakers and fans. The new colour variant is sure to add another level of excitement to the OnePlus 6T which is already available on sale in India, starting at a price of Rs 37,999 for its 6 GB + 128 GB base variant.

OnePlus 6T Receives Oxygen OS 9.0.4 Update

The OnePlus 6T was launched in India on October 30th and the device is already getting updates. We are all familiar with OnePlus’s Oxygen OS which provides an almost stock Android experience, almost mirroring that of the Google Pixel. Additionally, the OnePlus 6 is also the one of the first devices to receive Android 9 Pie, second only to the Google Pixel. Therefore, it is no surprise that the Oneplus 6T has already started receiving updates.

The Oxygen OS 9.0.4 update is rolling out to all the OnePlus 6T devices and brings in changes in the Nightscape feature and some security updates. Since the camera hardware used in the 6T is the same as the OnePlus 6, the company had to look for ways to make sure that the performance improves. The Nightscape feature on the OnePlus 6T claims to improve the lowlight performance of the camera. As of now, Nightscape does offer visible improvements, but not something that is a game-changer. The slight upgrades brought by this update might change that. It also added studio lighting to enhance pictures taken by the phone.

The update also includes power consumption optimisations, bug fixes and improvements to the Screen Unlock feature. The update also mentions brand new navigation gestures, but we are not sure as to what that means as the OnePlus 6T had new navigation gestures out of the box.

OnePlus 6T Launched In India Starting At Rs 37,999

The OnePlus 6T has been launched in India at an event held by OnePlus in New delhi. The phone is the successor to the OnePlus 6 and has a larger display, which replaces the traditional notch with a water-drop notch, which is less invasive. The fingerprint sensor has also been moved into the display.  Internal specifications mostly remain the same, apart from a few distinct features.

The device has been  launched at a starting price of Rs 37,999 and will be available starting November 1st on Amazon and the OnePlus website .

    What’s New

OnePlus has worked hard in the design of the 6T to make sure that they deliver something unique. Apart from changes in the display, the phone is also now better water-sealed thanks to the lack of a headphone jack. Although it does not have an official rating yet, company officials claim that it is close to an IP 67 rating which will protect it from submersion in depths upto 1 metre. The display has Corning Gorilla Glass 6 which offers a high degree of protection, but OnePlus has pre-applied a screen protector to the device to ensure more safety.

The company has also gotten rid of the 64 GB storage variant due to lesser demand of the same. The RAM configurations of the phone remains the same as the OnePlus 6, with 6 GB and 8 GB options. Rumours about the microSD card slot in the 6T turned out to be false as the device does not have a slot for the same, but has a dual SIM card slot with 4G capability in both.

The display is a bigger, 6.41 inch Optic AMOLED display with a 2340 x 1080 px resolution and 402 ppi pixel density. The device has a 19:5:9 aspect ratio, owing to the water-drop notch which can also be hidden by accessing settings. The phone has a greater, 86% screen-to-body ratio compared to the 83% on the OnePlus 6.

    What’s Same

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC is the same as seen on the OnePlus 6. Despite firing at the same speed, the phone is expected to be faster, thanks to performance and gaming improvements. It has Smart Boost which claims to improve the app cold start speed by 5-20 %.

The 6T uses the same sensors as its predecessor for its camera. It has a 16 MP + 20 MP dual camera setup at the back. Both the cameras have an f/1.7 aperture. The 6T records 4K 2160p video at 30 or 60fps. There are improvements in the main camera which does boost its performance. These include Nightscape, which make images taken in extreme low-light better by improving the sharpness, quality and the amount of light that in the scene. The main camera also has portrait mode and continuous to get OIS. The front camera has a 16 MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. It can record 1080p video at 30 fps.

The OnePlus 6T runs Oxygen OS based on Android 9 Pie with a 3,700 mAh battery. This is bigger, compared to the 3,300 mAh battery on the OnePlus 6.
