Xiaomi Launches Redmi Note 7 In India

In an event held in New Delhi, Xiaomi India has launched four products in the country which include two smartphones, an LED Television and a pair of wireless water-resistant earphones. Certainly, the showstoppers of the event were the Note 7 and Note 7 Pro. The Redmi Note 7 was first launched in China in the month of January and surprisingly the Redmi Note 7 Pro has made its global debut in India.

Redmi Note 7 Layout and Specifications

On the front of the Redmi Note 7, sits a 6.3 inch LCD display with a small waterdrop notch up top. The display panel has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio with a resolution 2340 x 1080 px and pixel density of 409 ppi. For protection against scratches, it also has Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The top, left and right side bezels around the display are negligible while the bottom bezel is comparatively thicker.

The right side of the Redmi Note 7 is occupied by the power button and volume rockers while the left side accommodates the Dual-Sim slot. The USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer is present on the bottom of the device which is flanked by loudspeaker and microphone grille. The top side of the Redmi Note 7 harbours a 3.5 mm audio jack and an IR Blaster.

The rear gradient panel of the smartphone is made out of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which houses the fingerprint sensor, Redmi branding and dual camera setup. The smartphone is available in three colour options which are as follows:

    • Sapphire Blue
    • Ruby Red
    • Onyx Black

The dual rear camera setup of the Redmi Note 7 is comprised of a 12 MP sensor and a 2 MP secondary sensor. The front facing selfie camera of the device uses a 13 MP sensor which is housed in the waterdrop notch above the device. Noteworthy, the smartphone has P2i hydrophobic nano coating which will allow the device to sustain accidental liquid splashes.

The Redmi Note 7 is kitted with the Snapdragon 660 SoC which consists of Adreno 512 GPU and an Octa-Core CPU. Out of the eight CPU cores, four Kryo 260 cores are clocked at 1.8 GHz for better battery efficiency and four Kryo 260 cores are clocked at 2.2 GHz for maximum performance.

The Redmi Note 7 is powered by a large 4,000 mAh battery which supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0. The Quick Charge 4.0 support allows the handset to be charged with 18 watts of maximum power. Connectivity options on the device include 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and FM Radio. Redmi Note 7 Pro Visits TENNA, Specifications Leaked

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi launched its first smartphone, the Redmi Note 7 in the month of January this year. Soon after its launch, the company confirmed that it will also launch a Pro variant of the smartphone. As the name suggests, the Redmi Note 7 Pro will be a beefed-up version of the standard variant. A senior Redmi China official has confirmed that the anticipated smartphone will launch in the last week of February. Before its official announcement, the device was spotted on Chinese regulatory website, TENAA.

Redmi Note 7 Features and Layout

The supposed Redmi Note 7 has been listed as model number ‘M1901F7BE’ on TENAA which is similar to the Redmi Note 7’s model number. The device in the listing measures 159.21×75.21×8.1mm and weighs 186 grams. It sports a 6.3 inch display with a resolution of 2340x 1080 px. According to the listing, the unreleased Redmi Note 7 Pro runs on the latest Android 9.0 Pie which apparently will be skinned with MIUI. The smartphone will be offered in three storage variants which are as follows:

    • 3 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM
    • 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM
    • 6 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM

In addition to the internal memory, it also supports memory expansion upto 256 GB via microSD card. The supposed Redmi Note 7 packs an Octa-Core CPU which is clocked at 2.0 GHz. The clock speed of the aforementioned CPU is equivalent to the Snapdragon 675 which the smartphone was previously reported to have. The device has a total of three cameras out of which one is placed on the front and two on the rear. The front-facing camera uses a 13 MP sensor and the rear dual camera setup is comprised of a 48 MP sensor and an 8 MP sensor. Noteworthy, the 48 MP sensor on the Note 7 Pro is dissimilar to the 48 MP sensor the standard variant has. Redmi executive had previously confirmed that the 48 MP sensor on the Pro variant will be the Sony IMX 586 sensor which is used on high-end devices like the Honor View 20. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is powered by a 3,900 mAh battery which like its younger sibling is likely to support fast charging support.

Interestingly, the listing reveals eight colour options of the smartphone which include Black, Red, Blue, Pink, White, Green, Purple and Gray. Though it is unlikely that Redmi will offer the smartphone in all these colour options. The TENAA listing also includes live images of the Redmi Note 7 Pro which exhibit that it resembles its younger sibling from all sides. The front of the smartphone has a waterdrop notch display that houses the selfie camera. The rear of the device is made out of a transparent panel with a gradient finish that houses the fingerprint sensor and dual camera setup. The placement of ports and switches on the upcoming device are also the same as the Redmi Note 7. Although specifications listed on TENAA are chiefly accurate, official specifications will only be confirmed once the company officially launches the handset. As mentioned previously the launch of the Redmi Note 7 is imminent and will take place in the last week of February.

  • Oppo Working On A Foldable Phone With Pop Up Camera Claims Patent

Oppo Working On A Foldable Phone With Pop Up Camera Claims Patent

Chinese smartphone maker, Oppo has slowly emerged as a leader in mobile phone technologies. In the year 2018, the company launched the Oppo Find X smartphone that was laden with remarkable features like a motorised camera slider and 50w SuperVOOC flash charge. Freshly granted patents claim that the company is developing yet another praiseworthy smartphone with a foldable display and a pop up selfie camera.

    The Conception Of Foldable Smartphones

Ever since the inception of smartphones, the maximum number of devices have had a rigid form factor. Over the years, several OEMs have proposed smartphones with a flexible form factor to pack in a large display on a device with a small footprint. None of the devices launched in the past were polished enough to be adopted by the mass audience.  However, it seems modern day foldable smartphones can turn the table for such devices. Earlier this month Samsung had launched its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold which will be available for purchase from 26 April this year. Numerous smartphone makers like Huawei, LG and Xiaomi are also expected to soon join the foldable phone bandwagon. Oppo being a competitive company cannot miss out on the industry that is likely to explode soon.

    Oppo’s Patent Revelations

The patent granted to Oppo exhibits a futuristic smartphone with a foldable display. Noteworthy, the display on the Oppo smartphone folds on the outside which is unlike the freshly launched Samsung Galaxy Fold. The device when in its unfolded state turns into a large screen tablet that has minimal bezels. The exceptional feature of the device is its pop up selfie camera which is similar to Vivo’s V15 Pro

The hinge on the rear side of the device is reminiscent of the Royole Flexpai. It seems to be made out of a pliable material which will provide the device with its foldable ability. The left half of the device has a ridge-like contour that accounts for the camera module. While the right half has an indentation which will make up for the camera module ridge when in the folded state. The patent also reveals that the bottom side of the device is occupied by the 3.5 mm audio jack, microphone pinhole, loudspeaker grille and cutout for a connector.

The most affordable smartphone out of the three, the Galaxy A10 has a black coloured rear panel which houses a single camera sensor with an LED flash. Qualcomm Is Designing Chipsets For Android Go Devices

Qualcomm is an American chipmaker that is renowned for its Snapdragon chipsets which are mostly featured on Android smartphones. The company makes chipsets which are suited for devices in a varied price range. The company is reported to be working on a budget chipset which will be targetted towards the affordable Android GO devices.

    What Is Android Go?

Android Go can also be referred to as Android Lite as the applications developed for this platform are tailored for entry-level devices. More often than not, the devices that fall under this category have 512 MB to 1 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, Android Go smartphones usually have 8 GB or 16 GB of inbuilt storage.

Benefits  and Need Of Android Go
    • Faster App Loading Time- The applications for Android Go platform are designed in a manner that they look up quickly on less feature rich smartphones.
    • Data Saver- Another important aspect that is kept in mind while developing apps for this platform is Data saving. Android Go smartphone users usually don’t have access to reliable high speed internet. Therefore, Android Go applications are designed to work stutter free even on a low speed internet connection.
    • Storage Preservation- Android Go smartphones usually have 8 GB or 16 GB of inbuilt storage. Therefore the Applications developed for this platform are more or less half the size of its regular version.
    • Minimum Pre-Installed Apps- Android Go smartphones only have nine pre-installed applications some of which include Google Go, YouTube Go and Google Maps Go. Notably the applications are optimised so they work smoothly on the entry level hardware.

The need for Android Go arises as the penetration of smartphones in rural regions and countries booms. Civilian of these areas do not buy high end smartphones which are either due to limited income or individual choice.

    Qualcomm QM215 Chipset

An unreleased Qualcomm chipset, QM215 has been appearing on the company’s developer platform database for several weeks. Noteworthy, the chipset does not carry the ‘S’ prefix. Therefore, it is unlikely to be a member of the Snapdragon lineup. Not many details about the unreleased chipset are known as of now. However, reports suggest it will be comprised of a quad-core Cortex A53 CPU which has a clock frequency of 1.3 GHz. In addition to four Cortex A53 cores, it is reported to pack a GPU with 650 MHz clock frequency.
