Here’s the First Look at the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini

With reports that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus next month, a new set of images have been leaked about the company’s latest device, a compact version of the Galaxy S6. Named the Galaxy S6 Mini, the company will apparently launch it on August 13th, along with the S6 Edge Plus.

As reported by PhoneArena (via BGR India), the images show the Galaxy S6 Mini from varied angles. The phone looks a lot like the Galaxy S6, with a micro-USB port and 3.5 mm audio situated in the same manner. The phone is rumoured to come with a Snapdragon 808 SoC processor with 2GB of RAM, a 4.6″ or 4.7″ screen with 720p resolution, and a 15 MP camera.

Samsung has not revealed any official details yet, but given the date the report has mentioned, the announcement is expected to be made soon. We will be on the lookout for more details of the Galaxy S6 Mini.

  • Samsung’s Latest Monitor Can Wirelessly Charge Your Phone – iGyaan

Samsung’s Latest Monitor Can Wirelessly Charge Your Phone – iGyaan

It happens to the best of us. You are working, you realise your phone’s battery is dying and you connect your phone to the charger located across the monitor or you charge your phone by plugging it to a USB port on your laptop/desktop. Soon your workstation becomes a wired mess. Samsung has found an elegant, if not unique, way to solve this problem – by building a wireless charging station into the monitor.

    vlcsnap-2015-07-27-12h44m33s612

Can’t you just buy a wireless charger, you might ask. You can, but wireless charger is like your ordinary charger, as it will be located away from your desk and will involve a wire anyway. Thanks to smartphones, we are more prone to multi-tasking and as people prefer to keep their smartphones close to their workstation, it probably makes sense to work on a monitor that has a built-in wireless charger. After all, the aim is to reduce the amount of wires in any way possible.

It is to be noted that the wireless charger will only work with smartphones which have built-in wireless charging capability, like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The monitor comes in two sizes – 24 inches and 27 inches – and AMD’s anti-gaming flicker tech with a 178 degree viewing angle.

Samsung has not released any launch date or region for now, but is expected to announce more at IFA 2015 in September.

  • Here’s How You Can Watch the Moto G (Gen 3) Launch Tomorrow

Here’s How You Can Watch the Moto G (Gen 3) Launch Tomorrow

With just a little over 24 hours left for the launch of the Moto G (Gen 3), Motorola India has decided to stream the event live on its YouTube channel. It’s interesting though, given that the company has not admitted that it will launch the new Moto G/Moto X.

To watch the live event, you have to search #mymotobff live on YouTube and click on the event. The event was announced ten days ago through a media invite. The new Moto G has been in the news recently, for the amount of details leaked about it.

Just a few hours ago, Flipkart listed the details about the Moto G (Gen 3) only to remove it a few moments later. The listing included the price of the 8GB variant at Rs. 11,999 and various details that were previously leaked such as a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, which is consistent with the reports that the phone will sport a 1.4GHz processor and a 13MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, a 5MP front camera, and a 2470 mAh battery.

With just a little over 24 hours left for the launch, it is better if we wait for Motorola to announce the phone and do not ruin the surprise, if there’s any surprise left at all.

Here’s the live stream that Motorola has launched:

We will also post the unboxing of the new Moto G and our review on iGyaan. So stay tuned.

  • Apple’s Electric Car to be Based on BMW i3

Apple’s Electric Car to be Based on BMW i3

The news about Apple‘s electric car project is gaining traction day by day and according to a latest report, the company is negotiating with BMW to use i3 electric cars as a base for the project. Similar reports surfaced in March this year, but BMW denied such claims.

    BMW i3
    BMW i3

BMW’s i3 is an all-electric car which can run for 80 and 90 miles on a full charge. At a recharge rate of 20 miles per hour, it takes four hours to charge the car from a public charger. The body is made from carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, which reportedly attracted Apple in the first place. The carbon fiber polymer can be of great use in the manufacturing process of iPhones and iPads. BMW used carbon fiber polymer to reduce energy consumption, so it can also be used to extend the battery life of Apple’s devices.

If Apple enters the car market with its electric car project, it would not only face Tesla (currently one of the major players in electric cars), but also Google, BMW and every other car manufacturer trying to break into electric cars.

As we earlier reported, Apple is hiring new staff from automobile companies to start its electric car project, called Project Titan. The recently hired include Doug Betts, a former VP for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Steve Zadesky, a veteran product designer and former Ford Motor Co. engineer.

  • New Leaked Promo Video for Moto G (Gen 3) Confirms Specs

New Leaked Promo Video for Moto G (Gen 3) Confirms Specs

Just a few days back we reported that the upcoming Moto G will be waterproof. A new promotional video for the Moto G has been leaked and confirms most of what we knew about the phone so far.

The Moto G (Gen 3) will boast of a 5-inch display and since it is referred to as HD, our guess is that the resolution will probably be 720p. The processor used will be a quad-core, but we don’t know which one since it hasn’t been mentioned. The phone will be water resistant for 30 minutes, as it has been certified IPx7. The battery will be large enough to power it around the clock.

The phone sports a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera. The device will run on Android Lollipop 5.1 and will offer expandable storage via MicroSD card upto 32 GB. The Moto G (Gen 3) can be customised using Motorola shells, like in the first Moto G. The dual SIM phone will support both 3G and 4G. There is no mention of the fingerprint sensor though, which is supposed to be an important feature.

At this point the video pretty much confirms many of the specs that the new Moto G was rumored to have. The video seems authentic since it uses the same design element that was used in the media invite sent for the July 28th event hosted by Motorola.

  • LG Launches the Pro-Selfie Max, Priced at Rs. 10,990

LG Launches the Pro-Selfie Max, Priced at Rs. 10,990

LG has released a new mid-range phone aimed at selfie enthusiasts, the LG Max, in India at a price of Rs. 10,990. Successor to last year’s LG L Bello smartphone, the LG Max features a larger display and a more powerful selfie camera than its predecessor. LG has launched the Max in India ahead of Europe and the CIS. However, judging by the specs, it doesn’t look like a winner.

The LG Max boasts of a 5.0-inch FWVGA display with 854 x 480 resolution. The phone uses a 1.3GHz Quad-Core chipset with 1GB RAM. The phone has a storage capacity of 8GB with MicroSD support. It runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and is powered by a 2,540mAh removable battery. It supports 3G and is a dual-SIM phone.

    D1_Black_2_On shot (NXPowerLite) (1)

The LG Max comes with features like Gesture Shot and Selfie Flash that makes it easy to click selfies. Gesture Shot enables users to take selfies without pressing any buttons by simply opening and closing the palm in front of the camera and Selfie Flash turns the phone’s display into a soft flash for portraits.

At this range, LG Max can be easily beaten by Yu Yureka and Lenovo K3 Note, which possess better specs than it. If LG says that the phone is specially manufactured for selfie enthusiasts, then the phone has to prove that its image processing software is good.

  • New Leaked Images Show the Upcoming iPhone in Production

New Leaked Images Show the Upcoming iPhone in Production

September is only a month away and it seems Apple has already started the preparations for the launch of the next iPhone. According to photos leaked on the French website nowhereelse (via AppleInsider), Apple has reportedly begun the production of the new iPhone.

If we go by the photographs, it seems the latest iPhone will be identical to the existing iPhone 6 lineup. The leak cannot confirm though, if the material used is sapphire or alkali-aluminosilicate glass like Gorilla Glass.

The photos also do not indicate the presence of Force Touch, which Apple will reportedly include in the new iPhone. ‘Force Touch’ is a feature that detects the level of force in a tap and responds accordingly. For example, a light tap on the screen will perform another task than a hard tap. Tiny electrodes surrounding the Retina display sense the difference in the amount of pressure applied on the screen. Thus, a user can perform simple tasks such as fast-forwarding a movie or using pressure to zoom in on a map with ease.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the next-gen iPhone would be thicker than the existing iPhone due to the integration of the ‘Force Touch’ feature. Also, Apple is reportedly integrating support for the feature in the beta versions of iOS 9, which will allow developers to make use of ‘Force Touch’ in navigation and media controls.

  • Sales Numbers of iOS Devices Make Us Question the Requirement of PCs

Sales Numbers of iOS Devices Make Us Question the Requirement of PCs

We have more proof that history repeats itself – after Android phone sales surpassed those of Windows computers in 2012, an analyst has estimated that the same thing will  happen again, this time, it will be iOS devices instead of Android. As ZDNet reports it, an analyst has tweeted a trailing 12-month chart of iOS and PC sales using data from various companies.

    https://twitter.com/BenedictEvans/status/623668376280395776

If you look at the graph closely, you will see that while PC sales increased post June 2009, right when Microsoft introduced Windows 7 and experienced a sharp decline post June 2012, when Microsoft introduced Windows 8, a well-intentioned but misfired attempt for cross platform OS. At the same time, Apple introduced iPhone 4S, which set a precedent for future iPhone designs and was a notable improvement over iPhone 3GS. Not to forget, iOS 5 achieved what Microsoft tried to – cross platform OS for the iPad, iPhone and iPod.

    Windows_Product_Family_9-30-Event-741x416

Moreover, over the years, developers and manufacturers have made phones and tablets suitable for tasks that required PCs. For example, you can now create and edit a PowerPoint Presentation on your phone, a task which required a PC in earlier times. Apps like Instagram and Pixlr allow users to edit their photos at a basic level, WordPress’ app allows you to manage your blog on the go and more such apps have made it possible to ditch the PC for basic tasks. Still, the PC won’t be extinct right away, as there is still some use for it.

Microsoft still has a chance to beat Apple at its cross-platform game, when it rolls out Windows 10 next week. It seems Microsoft has learned from its mistakes; Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 and can hopefully regain its position as the leader of the PC market.

Earlier this year, Sony partnered with MediaTek at CES, Las Vegas and announced that it would manufacture Android Lollipop based Smart TVs. Sony’s Android TV aims to provide the proper TV viewing experience on Android and deliver the large screen experience it was designed to do.

Users can access a number of features present on Android OS such as the Google Play Store and YouTube and can play HD videos as long as they have an Internet connection of 8Mbps or more. Plus, you can also play your videos from your smartphone onto the TV, using the the Google Cast feature. The users can also give commands using the voice feature. Sony has customised the OS for Indian users with the app SerialAbTak, that plays most popular soaps and shows from Indian channels.

Sony has gone one step further and has added the 3D feature onto the Android TV, which means you can plug in your PS4 and enjoy the 3D movies, which will look better with Sony’s X-Reality PRO Picture Engine.

Motorola’s latest move comes just a week before it announces the latest Moto G and Moto X on July 28. In addition to that, it seems Motorola has been keeping track of its rival Xiaomi, which has slashed rates of its phones in the past two weeks.

The Moto E (Gen 2) 4G LTE, touts a 4.5-inch qHD (540×960p) screen and a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor as compared to the Snapdragon 200 processor of the Moto E(Gen 2) 3G model. The handsets features 1GB of RAM and 8GB of inbuilt storage capacity, expandable up to 32GB. A rear camera of 5MP is fitted onto Moto E (Gen 2) LTE, while the front has a 0.3MP shooter. Running on Android 5.0 Lollipop, the device comes with a 2390 mAh battery.

According to our very own Bharat Nagpal, the 2nd Gen Moto E is “a budget hero and gets better with an improved build and customizable options thanks to the new grip bands”.
