Huawei P20 Pro Officially Launched At 899 Euros

After months of constant leaks, Huawei has launched its flagship device for early-2018, the Huawei P20 Pro. Up until a few weeks ago, there doubts over what moniker this phone will carry, many believing that the P10 successor will be the P11. However, at the Paris event, all the doubts have been put to rest. The Huawei P20 Pro will start retailing at a price of 900 Euros. There is no word on the pricing and availability of the smartphone in India, as of now.

Two of the most striking features of the Huawei P20 Pro lay on the front and back. The front of the smartphone houses a very iPhone X-esque notch which houses the earpiece, sensors and a front camera. That being said, the device also has a front-facing fingerprint sensor. Unlike the P20 Pro, the iPhone X has nearly zero bezels on the other three sides of the device. The fingerprint sensor also doubles up as a single navigation button if you don’t like on-screen navigation buttons.

The iPhone X reminiscence doesn’t end there, as the P20 Pro has a vertically place camera setup, much like the iPhone X. However, where it differentiates is the hardware and implementation of the camera setup. It is the first ever smartphone with a triple-camera setup on the back.

The Huawei P20 Pro has a 6.1 inch RGBW full-colour OLED display with a 2244 x 1080 px resolution.

Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset, a 2.2GHz octa-core processor along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Powering the smartphone is a 4000 mAh battery with support for SuperCharge, a proprietary fast charging technology. Interestingly, the Huawei P20 Pro also has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

In an appreciable move, the P20 Pro will run on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The caveat here is that EMUI 8 will be on top of the Android Oreo, which means no stock Android OS experience. Then again, Huawei has never launched stock OS smartphones.

In the optics department is where this smartphone will grab all the headlines. The Huawei P20 Pro has a 40MP primary sensor, which supports 5x hybrid zoom. There is a secondary 8MP sensor, which offers 3x optical zoom, which also helps to create portrait mode. Similarly, there is a third sensor with 20MP resolution. Unlike the other two sensors, this is a monochrome sensor which helps to capture contrast and sharpness. Another mindboggling feature of this camera setup is a maximum ISO of 102,400.

On the front of the smartphone is a 24MP sensor. Apart from the selfies, this camera will also be responsible for Face Unlock, a feature that has become increasingly common with Android devices. The front-facing camera also has a new 3D Portrait Lighting feature, which sounds very similar to Apple iPhone X’s Portrait Lighting effect.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s Vs OnePlus 5T

Xiaomi officially launched the Mi MIX 2s in China, which is the first Chinese smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset. The smartphone has an almost bezel-less design. The entry-level model with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at 3299 Yuan (~Rs 32,999). The one smartphone that can challenge the Mi MIX 2s is the OnePlus 5T. Which is priced at Rs 32,999 for the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage.

The Mi MIX 2s has a 5.99 inch 2160 x 1080 px IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio, protected by Gorilla Glass 4. The smartphone has no bezels on three corners. However, it has a noticeable bezel on the bottom, which houses a front-facing camera. Similarly, the OnePlus 5T has a 5.99 inch FHD+ 2160 x 1080 px Optic OLED display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Unlike the MIX 2s, the OnePlus 5T is powered by the Snapdragon 835 Octa-core chipset with 6/8GB RAM and 64/128GB storage.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s has a top of the line camera hardware. The smartphone has the iPhone X-style dual camera setup. The 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4-micron pixel and an f/1.8 aperture. Similarly, there is a secondary telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture, which offers x2 optical zoom and portrait mode. When it comes to camera capabilities, the OnePlus 5T is no slouch either. The smartphone has a dual 12MP and a 20MP camera with an f/1.7 aperture on both sensors. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s is the first Xiaomi smartphone to support wireless charging. However, the OnePlus counterpart misses out on the same.

Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker Officially Launched

Xiaomi has launched one of the most affordable Mi A1 Speaker in China. The accessory has been launched along with the Mi MIX 2s and the Mi Gaming Laptop. The Mi AI Speaker comes with a cubical design with rounded corners. The speaker is priced at 169 Yuan (Rs 1,699) in China. The speaker has a shiny white plastic build quality, which is acceptable for the price tag. As of now, the company has not made any announcement on the global availability.

The mini speaker is powered by AI, which has an access to more than 35 million songs. Additionally, the speaker can also work as a smart alarm clock, with the ability to schedule a memo or a reminder. Similarly, the speaker can also voice-dictate news, information, or even you can make enquiries about upcoming and popular movies.

Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker Specs

The smart speaker is powered by the Cortex -A7 Quad-core chipset with 1.2 GHz clock speed. It supports 2.4Hz Wi-Fi band, Bluetooth 4.1 and has a total of 4 microphones. Like most of the Smart speakers, the device has to be connected to a power source using a micro USB port.

On the top, it has volume and navigation buttons surrounded by four microphones. Additionally, the device has a tiny RGB LED, which changes colour according to the task. The Xiaomi Mi A1 Speaker can work with either Android or iOS smartphone running on Android 4.4 KitKat and iOS 8.0 or the latest OS.

Xiaomi has officially launched the Mi MIX 2s in China, for a starting price of 3,299 Yuan. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core chipset with 6/8GB RAM and 64/128/256GB storage. The smartphone has a dual primary camera setup, with a 12MP wide angle lens and a 12MP telephoto lens with AI capabilities. This is also the first Xiaomi smartphone to support Qi-based wireless charging capability.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s Officially Launched

Xiaomi has launched its most anticipated smartphone of the year, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s in China. The smartphone’s price starts at 3299 Yuan (Rs 32,999) and has flagship hardware with premium build quality. There are no drastic changes in design. However, incorporation of the iPhone X-style dual camera setup does give this smartphone a unique expression.

The company has used ceramic to offer mirror-like finish with added protection from 7000 series aluminium frame. Unlike most of the Android smartphone markers, the Mi MIX 2s doesn’t have a notch, instead, it has a prominent bezel at the bottom. To make it more premium, the company has used 18K gold around the camera and fingerprint sensor. The device will be available in Ceramic White and Black colour.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s has a 5.99 inch IPS LCD display with a 2160 x 1080 px full screen 2.0 display with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Under the hood, the device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core processor with 2.8 GHz CPU and Adreno 630 GPU. This chipset is paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM along with 64GB/128GB/256GB storage. Just like the previous MIX smartphones, the Mi MIX 2s doesn’t have expandable storage.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX and the Mi MIX 2 were highly criticised for their camera capabilities. And now, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s might resolve this issue using dual primary camera setup. The smartphone has a 12MP wide angle and a 12MP telephoto lens, similar to the Apple iPhone 8. This camera setup can offer 2x optical zoom and portrait mode, which blurs the background by focusing on the subject. The primary camera is a Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4-micron pixel. Additionally, the camera also supports dual-pixel autofocus, which helps the smartphone to focus on a subject in low light environments. The smartphone can also record 4K videos.

The camera features do not end there. Xiaomi claims that it uses AI to improve background blurring to create perfect portrait photographs. The company also uses AI for scene detection, to improve the colour and clarity of the photo, depending on the subject in focus. The 5MP front-facing camera can also capture bokeh shots using a single camera. The phone also has an instant translation with instant currency conversion straight from the camera app. Based on the DXO Mark rating, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s scores 101 points in Photos, which is same as the Apple iPhone X.

Similar to Samsung and Apple, the company is also launching its own voice assistant. Which eases out the day to day tasks. The smartphone also has an NFC chip, which supports cashless payments (limited to China). The smartphone also supports Qi standard wireless charging with 7.5-watt output, which is faster than the iPhone X.

There is no word on the device’s availability outside in India. However, considering the Mi MIX 2 was launched in India, its successor will also hit the Indian shores soon.

Possible Xiaomi Mi A2 Specifications Leaked

The Mi A1 was the first smartphone from Xiaomi to run on stock Android. And now, the company might launch the Xiaomi Mi A2, which was recently spotted on TENAA as the Mi 6X. Last year, the Xiaomi Mi A1 was just the Mi 5X with Android One operating system. Similarly, the Mi 6X, which will launch in China, could be launched in India as the Mi A2.

The specifications of the Mi 6X have now been listed on TENNA. The smartphone has a metal unibody design, similar to its predecessor. However, it has undergone a design overhaul with the iPhone X-style dual camera setup and an 18:9 aspect ratio display. The listing also specifies that the smartphone will be available in Black, Rose Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, Silver.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 has a 5.99 inch IPS LCD 2160 x 1080 px display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device has a 2.2 GHz Octa-core chipset, which could be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626/660 chipset. Additionally, the device has either 4/6GB RAM with 64/128GB onboard storage.

The device has a dual 20MP and an 8MP sensor. However, the exact implementation of this dual camera setup is yet to be known. For the front-facing camera, the phone uses a 20MP sensor, similar to the one found on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Additionally, the front-facing camera is likely to support Face Unlock.

The phone runs on Android 8 Oreo. In China, the smartphone is expected to run on MIUI 9 and for the rest of the world, the device is likely to run on Stock Android OS. Lastly, the phone has 2910 mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than the 3080 mAh battery found on the Xiaomi Mi A1.

Moto G6 Specifications Leaked

Motorola is expected to launch three devices under the G6 series, the Moto G6, G6 Play, and G6 Plus in the next few weeks. These will be the next generation of affordable smartphone series from Motorola. The Moto G6 is officially on TENAA with complete tech specifications. Which means, the device will launch in China in no time. Additionally, the device was also spotted on Amazon UK with a price tag of 239 Euros (Rs 19290).

The phone has a glass front, glass back, and a metal mid-frame. In fact, the design has taken a hint from the company’s own Moto X4. The Phone has a dual rear-camera setup, with a chrome-like ring. In fact, this could be the first Motorola smartphone to have an 18:9 aspect ratio display.

Moto G6 Specs

The Moto G6 has a 5.7 inch FHD+ 2160 x 1080 px IPS LCD ‘Max Vision display’ with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core chipset with 4G RAM and 64GB storage.

The mobile has a dual primary camera setup with a 12MP primary camera and a 5MP depth sensor. For the front-facing camera, the phone has a 16MP sensor with probable support for Face Unlock. The smartphone has 154.5 × 72.2 × 8.3 mm dimension with a sealed 3000 mAh battery. The device will run on Android 8 Oreo with stock Android OS.

Looking at the specifications, the Moto G6 looks like a true successor to the Moto G5. However, we will hold on to our final verdict until the official launch of the Moto G6.

Huawei is poised to launch its flagship smartphone for early-2018, the Huawei P20 Pro at an event in Paris today. Along with that, the Huawei P20 and P20 Lite will also be launched. Interestingly, the Huawei P20 Lite has already been on sale in a few markets although, it is going to be officially launched today.

The Huawei P20 Pro will be the first smartphone to have a triple camera setup on the back while the other two devices will have a dual-camera setup. All the three smartphones will have an iPhone X-style notch. So far, the renders have revealed a notch and a front-facing fingerprint sensor for the P20 Pro and P20. This means that despite the notch, the smartphone will not have minimal bezels around the display, like the iPhone X.

Samsung Could Soon Introduce Over The Air Wireless Charging

Samsung is known to introduce new features on its Galaxy Note lineup. The company introduced Iris scanner on the Galaxy Note 7 and the Note 8 was the first Samsung smartphone to have dual primary camera setup. Similarly, the company might incorporate Over the Air (OTA) wireless charging on the Galaxy Note 9.

Over The Air Wireless Charging

The company had registered a patent in 2016, which explains this technology. The OTA wireless charging works differently from the present generation wireless charging. In the conventional form of wireless charging, the charging pad surface has to touch the back of the smartphone to transfer charge. However, the devices with OTA wireless charging support starts to charge, as soon as one enters into the perimeter. This means the device can charge being inside your trouser pocket.

The device with this technology will use an algorithm that focuses energy on a device, inside the OTA charging enabled room. The technology will be capable of charging the device, even if the object is moving. Additionally, this technology uses reflectors to send the power signal, which can bypass certain barriers.

This will be a breakthrough technology, which can change the way that we use and charge our smartphones. The transition from a wired-charging to OTA-wireless charging will be similar to the transition from landline to wireless phones. However, the technology is still in its nascent stage and might take at 3-4 years to come to fruition.

Xiaomi Black Shark Will Be Powered By The Snapdragon 845

If an OEM is launching a gaming smartphone in 2018, then the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is the chipset to go with. It offers top of line GPU and CPU performances with peak benchmark scores. Xiaomi has partnered with a Chinese startup named Black Shark Technology Incorporated to launch a gaming smartphone named ‘Black Shark‘. According to a teaser image released by the company, the smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset.

The CEO of Black Shark recently announced a lucky draw on Weibo. Where three winners will be gifted with Black Shark smartphone on 30th March. Soon after 30th, we are most likely to see these smartphones in action. As of now, there are no details of pricing of the smartphone. However, considering Xiaomi’s pricing strategy, the Black Shark is expected to retail around the price of US$ 500. Another teaser said that the phone will be launched in May 2018.

The smartphone will have dual stereo speakers at the bottom with a USB type C port. The features of Xiaomi BlackShark are expected to match with the features of the Razer Phone, which offered top of the line specifications with gaming-centric features like the dual stereo speaker, 120Hz refresh rate, and the Snapdragon 835.

The Xiaomi BlackShark is expected to have a 6 inch display with 2160 x 1080p resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone will have the Snapdragon 845 chipset with 8GB RAM and 32GB storage. However, the company might also launch additional storage variants with either 64GB or 128GB memory.

The BlackShark might offer a full metal unibody design with dual stereo speakers at the bottom. Out of the box, the smartphone will run on Android 8.0 Oreo. However, it might feature either MIUI or stock Android. As this is a gaming smartphone, it comes with one of a kind aviation class cooling system with additional tweaks. The smartphone has scored an impressive 270680 points on Antutu, in fact, it is more than that of the Galaxy S9’s 265267 points.

Nokia 1 Launched In India For Rs. 5499

At the Mobile World Congress 2018, HMD Global unveiled a plethora of smartphones. Right from the infamous “Banana Phone” from The Matrix to the Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 7 Plus. However, the Nokia 1, an Android Go running smartphone was also an important announcement. It has now been launched in India at a price of Rs 5499. In fact, the Nokia 1 will only be available via offline outlets from the 28th of March.

Google introduced Android Go back in early-December 2017 tailor-made for devices with 1GB of RAM. The company said the idea behind Android Go is to create a version of Android software which is designed to run better on phones with either 512MB or 1GB of RAM.

Google has claimed that Android Go’s Oreo edition will be a variant of Android Oreo that a manufacturer can just set by ticking off a configuration flag. What this basically does is that it sets up the phone to use the “Go” versions of a handful of Google apps such as the main Google app, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Gmail, and others. Google claims that the smaller apps and slimmer OS can as much as halve the amount of storage that’s taken up by default on a new phone running default OS.

Nokia 1 Specs

The Nokia 1 has a 4.5 inch FWVGA display with an 854 x 480 px resolution. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A retails in India for Rs 5999 and has a 5 inch 1280 x 720 px resolution.

Under the hood, the Nokia 1 has the MediaTek MT6737M chipset with a 1GHz quad-core processor. This is coupled with 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. There is nothing to write home about its camera as well. The Nokia 1 has a 5MP primary camera with an LED flash. On the front is a 2MP camera. However, the Redmi 5A offers 13MP primary camera and a 5MP front camera.

Out of the box, the smartphone will run Android 8.1 Oreo-based Android Go operating system. Powering the smartphone will be a 2150 mAh battery. The company claims will deliver up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time.

A new video of what might be the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s reveals the design the smartphone.

Sony Xperia XZ2 Tablets To Launch Soon

Sony has not launched a flagship tablet since 2015. Most of the brands have been doing the same, due to decreasing tablet sales number. However, Sony might reconsider its decision on the same, by launching a flagship tablet in 2018. According to a report, the teardown of Sony’s camera app has hinted towards two tablets from the Japanese smartphone maker. The company is most likely to launch an 8 inch and a 10 inch tablet. These devices might launch under the Xperia XZ2 moniker, which was launched at MWC 2018.

Sony is expected to launch these tablets in the summer of 2018 along with the Xperia XZ2 Pro. The Xperia XZ2 Pro is expected to be the most premium offering from the company, which might have a 4K resolution display with flagship class hardware. Apart from Huawei and Samsung, not many smartphone makers have launched premium Android-powered tablets in the recent past. The leak does not mention any specifications. However, going by the flagship device standards, it is likely to launch a device with at least 1080p resolution. Under the hood, the device is likely to be powered by a Snapdragon 800 series processor. Additionally, we might see different variants of these tablets with Wi-Fi or LTE capabilities.

As this leak was seen on camera application, the devices are likely to have a camera similar to the Sony Xperia XZ2. If that so, this could be the first tablet to support slow motion 960fps video recording. However, considering this as a tablet, these devices will have a mediocre camera and a massive battery, which can last for a complete day or two. These tablets are likely to run on Android 8 Oreo.
