OnePlus 7 May Have Wireless Charging

Information for the next OnePlus device is already pouring in as the launch for the OnePlus 7 comes inevitably closer.  If industry trends are to go by, OnePlus phones might soon feature wireless charging. OnePlus is slowly moving from the budget flagship tag to becoming a full fledged flagship phone and in doing so they will slowly introduce features and benefits that other competing flagships have. These include wireless charging, IP Rating and better cameras. While we know very little about the upcoming phone from OnePlus, we do know that they like to share certain technology with their sister company Oppo.

Oppo has joined the ‘Wireless Power Consortium’. The consortium is an an open, collaborative standards development group of more than 600+ company members around the globe. The members include big names such as Apple, Samsung and Huawei.

Oppo had refrained from wireless charging so far. They have not used this charging technology citing that the technology is not upto the mark since their Super VOOC technology can charge faster. OnePlus’ reasons are similar and the company has said that they will include wireless charging when they figure out a way to include fast charging technology onto wireless chargers.

Oppo joining the consortium maybe a good sign as it might mean their next flagship featuring wireless charging which might eventually lead to wireless charging supported on OnePlus devices. While the industry suspects that this technology will be available on OnePlus 7, we feel it might be added to the OnePlus 7T six months from April/May 2019.

  • Nokia N9 Spotted Running KaiOS At CES 2019

Nokia N9 Spotted Running KaiOS At CES 2019

The month of January saw one of the biggest tech conventions of the year, CES 2019. The tech event was held in Las Vegas, United States and companies from around the world showcased their latest and greatest innovations. Global search giant, Google showcased a wide variety of products and services. Intriguingly a Nokia device that looks similar to the honoured Nokia N9 running KaiOS was spotted at the Google booth.

    What Is KaiOS?

KaiOS is a Linux-based mobile operating system that was first developed to bring smart features to non-touch devices. The OS intends to provide an optimised user interface and long battery life to devices with less memory. It is a lightweight OS that is even able to run on devices with just 256 MB of RAM. The main features that the operating system aims to add to affordable phones are 4G LTE and Wi-FI.

Phones running on KaiOS are capable of receiving OTA (Over The Air) updates like Android and iOS smartphones. Additionally, the company has readied a dedicated market place for the OS called KaiStore from where the users can download applications.

    KaiOS On The Nokia N9

During the CES event, Google showcased three voice assistant compatible devices which include the Nokia 8810, Jio Phone and a Nokia N9 lookalike. Although the screen of the Nokia N9 doppelgänger was turned off, its placement with other KaiOS powered phones indicate it also runs the same operating system.

Since most KaiOS powered devices have an affordable price tag it is possible that Nokia might launch an affordable touchscreen smartphone. Possibly the company might launch a complete lineup of affordable smartphones that run on KaiOS. Unfortunately, Nokia has not made any comments about the launch of such a device but its presence at CES indicates a strong possibility of this turning into reality. Furthermore, if the company does launch the Nokia N9 with KaiOS, it is expected to have better features than the original smartphone.

OnePlus 7 Leaks: What We Know So Far

OnePlus is known to release a new phone every year, six months after their ‘T’ series release. So the new OnePlus 7 phone is due this March or April and we are stoked! Over the past few months there has been several leaks and speculations and in this article we list what we know about the much rumoured phone so far.

    No Notch

One of the recurring themes of the leaks so far have been the absence of a notch in the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 6 featured a full fledged notch while just six months later, the notch was turned into a water-drop one on the 6T. If this trend continues, the notch could very well be removed on the OnePlus 7.

Moreover, BBK Electronics owned Oppo and Vivo have both tried to remove the notch completely by using ingenious ways like sliding camera, sliding back panel etc. If trends are anything to go by, OnePlus has been known to borrow technology that has been well received by the market. A prime example is the in- display fingerprint sensor which first appeared on a Vivo phone and then was featured on the OnePlus 6T. The absence of the notch will mean the phone will either have a retractable camera or a sliding back.

    Optional 5G

The era of 5G is upon us and OnePlus being one of the industry leaders, won’t be far behind. The company has confirmed that a 5G model of the phone will be made available to the European market at a premium. OnePlus’ CEO also stated that the 5G model will be $200-300 more than the 4G one.

    More Than Two Rear Cameras

OnePlus 5 was the first phone in the company’s stable to feature dual rear cameras. With most high end smartphones like the Huawei Mate Pro being sold with three rear cameras, it won’t be a surprise if OnePlus goes the same route. This rumour also comes from our next point.

    Round Camera Bump

The rumour of the OnePlus 7 with more than two rear cameras comes from an image leak where OnePlus officials are seen using a phone with a round camera bump that looks quite big for two cameras. While it isn’t clear if the leaked photo is just a prototype phone or the upcoming OnePlus 7, it will be interesting to see how the company implements the three camera setup and what lenses they choose to put in it.

    Hardware Speculations

There are several specification leaks as well and some guesses based on past OnePlus device features about the hardware of the upcoming OnePlus 7. The phone will feature a Snapdragon 855 processor which is the latest flagship processor from Qualcomm. The OnePlus 6T has 6GB and 8GB RAM options with 128GB and 256GB  but we expect more from the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 7 will probably have 8GB and 10 GB RAM with 256GB and 512GB storage. The phone will also feature a larger and more efficient battery compared to the 3700 mAh battery seen on the OnePlus 6T.

  • Redmi Note 7 Has A Hidden Feature That The Company Is Not Even Promoting

Redmi Note 7 Has A Hidden Feature That The Company Is Not Even Promoting

Xiaomi has turned Redmi, its most popular lineup, into sub-brand. On 10 January 2019, Redmi launched its first smartphone called the Redmi Note 7. It is a successor to the highly popular Redmi Note 6 Pro. Albeit Xiaomi devices are made with budget focused consumers in mind, the devices have praiseworthy build quality. Same is the case with the Note 7 Pro, even though it is aggressively priced, the smartphone has a laudable feature that the company is not even promoting. A teardown of the device suggests that the device is well worthy of waterproof certification.

    Watertight Seals and Membranes

An up-close image of the innards of the newly launched Redmi Note 7 was shared on Chinese social media site, Weibo which reveals intriguing findings. The images of the dis-assembled smartphone exhibit that it has rubber seals around several components that indeed make it watertight. Blue and Violet colored seals can be easily spotted around the camera modules. 3.5 mm audio jack and even the hybrid SIM card slot. In addition to the watertight seals, the loudspeaker is also protected with a watertight membrane.

Although, it is unclear why is Redmi not boasting about this noteworthy feature on the Redmi Note 7. It is possible that to keep the prices down, Redmi did not opt for any waterproof certification on the device. All in all, it is a great feature that other smartphone manufacturers must definitely take a note of.

The Upcoming Samsung Foldable Smartphone Will Have Dual Batteries

Samsung is expected to launch its first foldable smartphone in Q1 of 2019. The company had previously showcased a working prototype of the device with two screens. Having a smartphone with two displays have growing concerns about its battery backup. A report claims that the upcoming Galaxy foldable smartphone allegedly called the Galaxy F will not only have dual displays but it will also have dual batteries.

    Need For Two Separate Batteries

The claim regarding the Galaxy F aka Galaxy Fold having dual batteries was made by a Dutch website, Galaxyclub. According to the source, the upcoming foldable device from Samsung will have two batteries each with a capacity of 3100 mAh, resulting in a total battery capacity of 6200 mAh.

The display of any smartphone is one of its most power consuming components. Apparently, the dual 4.5-inch and 7.3-inch displays will be the biggest battery consumers on the Galaxy F as well. The source adds that opting for dual batteries on the device is a necessity and not a choice.

The two 3,100 mAh batteries make it easier to accommodate a large battery in a device with a foldable form factor. Similarly, the dual display ZTE Axon M’s battery life was cut in half when both the displays were simultaneously used. Moreover, the factor Galaxy Fold that is capable of displaying three apps at once is another reason for concern.

  • Redmi Note 7 Vs Redmi Note 6 Pro : What All Is New

Redmi Note 7 Vs Redmi Note 6 Pro : What All Is New

Xiaomi had previously announced that Redmi, it’s most popular series of smartphones will be turned into a separate sub-brand. On 10 January 2019, Redmi launched their first smartphone, the Redmi Note 7 in China. It is the successor to the well knownRedmi Note 6 Pro which was launched last year. The Remi Note 7 seems impressive as such specifications have not been seen on a sub US$ 150 smartphone. Not only did Redmi price the device similar to its predecessor, but the new device also gets significantly bumped up specifications. Here is a list of all the major changes between the Note 7 and its forerunner.

    Camera

The Redmi Note 7, unlike the Note 6 Pro which had four cameras, has three camera sensors. Although Redmi has replaced the dual front camera setup with a single sensor on the new device, the dual rear camera setup gets a massive boost. The rear camera setup of the Redmi Note 7 now consists of an f/1.8 aperture equipped 48 MP camera sensor paired with a 5 MP depth sensor. The 48 MP rear camera uses the Sony IMX 856 sensor which is usually seen on flagship devices like the Honor V20.

    Hardware

In addition to the better camera, the SoC on the Redmi Note 7 is also beefed up. The new smartphone packs the Snapdragon 660 SoC while both the Redmi Note 6 Pro featured the Snapdragon 636 SoC. Even though the Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 636 consist of a similar Octa-Core CPU the former has a higher clock speed and better Adreno 512 GPU. The Snapdragon 636 has eight Cores which are all clocked at 1.8 GHz whereas the Snapdragon 660 has two clusters of four cores which are clocked at 1.8 GHz and 2.2 GHz.

    Design

The Redmi Note 6 Pro has a wide notch at the top of the display that houses the dual front cameras and the earpiece. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 7 only has one 13 MP camera which is housed in small waterdrop notch above the display. The earpiece on the new device is built into the top bezel of the front side. Additionally, the rear of the new smartphone gets an all-new back design. Unlike the aluminium back on its predecessor, the Note 7 has a gradient style back panel that seems to be made out of glass.

USB Type-C Port And Quick Charge 4.0 Support

To catch up on the latest industry standard, the Redmi Note 7 gets a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer whereas the Redmi Note 6 Pro has the Micro USB port. Additionally, the latest smartphone also supports Quick Charge 4.0 that enables a device to be charged with up to 18 watts of power.

    Price

The Redmi Note 7 is available in three different variants for which the price is as follows:

  • Samsung Might Have Accidentally Leaked The Galaxy S10 Design, Launching 20th Feb

Samsung Might Have Accidentally Leaked The Galaxy S10 Design, Launching 20th Feb

Samsung in a press release, may have leaked the design of their upcoming smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy S10. The press release was about Samsung’s new user interface called One UI that is at it’s beta phase at the moment. The One UI is a radically different designed UI compared to the older UI that Samsung used. One UI has enhanced features such as ease of one handed use, minimalistic design eliminating unnecessary distractions and a night mode.

    Galaxy S10

Coming back to the phone, Samsung will be releasing their flagship Galaxy S10 this year and the rumour mills suggest that it will have an under display camera at the front. If rumours are anything to go by, there will be two variations of the phone this year. A Lite version with a smaller screen and a bigger screen version. The bigger S10 will feature a pinhole for the camera instead of a notch.

The photo, which was taken down after a Reddit user pointed out the mistake, shows an in display camera at the top right which looks to be Samsung’s Infinity – O patent coming to life. The phone also had a very thin chin and looks almost all screen. The pictures also showed buttons on the side with the power button to the right and the volume rocker and Bixby button on the left. However, these are all assumptions at this point, the actual design shouldn’t be too far off we feel.

Keeping the photo aside, there are also rumours that the phone may feature an in- display fingerprint sensor. Other rumours for the flagship phones include Snapdragon 855 chipset, 8GB/12GB RAM and 12MP, 16MP and 13MP rear cameras. The launch date for the S10 has been announced by the company to be February 20th, 2019 which is just a few days before Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Panasonic Lumix S1, Lumix S1R Mirrorless Cameras To Go On Sale Soon

The entire photography industry slowly moving towards mirrorless cameras. More manufacturers are focusing more on their mirrorless lineup than ever before. Panasonic being on the forefront of mirrorless camera technology, along with brands like Fujifilm, Olympus, Pentax and Leica, has a great lineup of cameras. The company had announced the Lumix S1 and Lumix S1R mirrorless cameras in Photokina 2018 equipped with a Leica L mount lenses.

Now, at CES 2019, Panasonic has revealed that both the cameras will be available for purchase from end of March of this year. The LUMIX S1R will feature a 47MP sensor. Whereas, the LUMIX S1 will feature a 24MP sensor. Panasonic had also claimed that these cameras will be the world’s first full frame digital single lens mirrorless cameras to feature support for 4K 60p/50p video recording. • Apple Maps Get Turn-by-Turn Navigation Support In India

Apple Maps Get Turn-by-Turn Navigation Support In India

Apple initially released the Apple Maps application back in 2012 replacing Google Maps as the default mapping service. But the application had limited users in India due to the absence of an important feature. Till now most iPhone users in India were forced to use Google Maps for navigation as it allowed turn by turn navigation in the country. Three years ago Apple set up a development center in Hyderabad which was focused on improving Apple Maps in the country. The latest update of maps offers detailed directions for both driving and walking.

    Apple Maps Update

The latest Apple Maps update for India allows the users to navigate turn-by-turn to their desired location which was previously absent. Additionally, the updated application allows its user to book cab services like Uber and Ola from within the Maps application. This feature has been available on Google Maps for quite some time.

Like Google Maps, the updated Apple Maps service will also provide voice-guided navigation. In addition to the iPhone, iOS devices including the iPod Touch and iPad will also be able to avail the new maps features.

    What’s Still Missing?

Although the Apple Map update brings key features that were previously unavailable, it still misses out on a few notable features. The Maps application still does not provide information about public transit which is critical for the last mile connectivity. Other features that are still missing after the update include the support for lane guidance and speed limits.

All in all, the new update adds necessary features to the Maps application for Apple devices and the missing features are expected to be added in the near future as the company is continuously working to improve it.

  • Bose Introduces Noise Cancellation For Cars

Bose Introduces Noise Cancellation For Cars

Bose has been in the forefront of noise cancellation technology for a long time now and it seems the company is making strides into in- car noise cancellation as well. This technology will keep the sound of the car engine and other peripheral sound away from the passengers sitting inside. While some of might love the growling engine and exhaust of our cars, some do prefer a quieter journey, specially for long distances.

The new technology is called QuietComfort Road Noise Control. Bose is known worldwide for their excellent noise cancellation headphones also, aptly named QuietComfort series. This technology uses your vehicle’s audio system, accelerometers, microphones, and Bose’s own signal-processing software. While cars, up until now provided noise reduction, by increasing the insulation and use of specialised tires, the QuietComfort Road Noise Control works differently.

    How It Works

Bose headphones continuously measure, compare, and react to outside noise, then cancel it with the opposite signal. The car’s noise cancellation system works in a similar fashion. It uses an algorithm that counteracts noise produced by the body of the car with equal and opposing sound waves. These sound waves are transmitted through the car’s speakers. The technology also makes use of small microphones inside the cabin to generate the precise noise reduction signal that is required.

This technology will provide a quieter in- car environment. This will allow the passengers and the driver a chance to enjoy their music, calls or conversation without any disturbance. This technology is aimed towards the future, according to Bose, because it will substantially reduce noticeable road noise from electric propulsion and lighter cars. The technology will theoretically also help the car become lighter because noise insulation will not be required in cars anymore.

Bose has been pioneering the noise reduction technology and has several patents to its name. It will be interesting to see how the company changes in- car noise reduction as we know it.
