Samsung Unveils Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge; Both Feature Incredibly Fast Charging Capabilities

The much anticipated forthcoming flagship from Samsung has finally been officially unwrapped. Our earlier leak might have ruined surprises, if there were any. As expected, there are indeed two versions of the flagship – one with the standard screen while the other one is a curved display.

Watch our Hands On with the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge here:

The normal Galaxy S6 boasts a slightly larger screen size than its predecessor with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED QuadHD display with a pixel density of 577PPI. Powering the new Galaxy S6 will be an Exynos Octa-Core chipset clocked at 2.1 Ghz which is bundled with a 3GB LPDDR4.

Meanwhile, in terms of optics, it retains the same 16MP count just like its predecessor, though it gets OIS which was missing in its previous iteration. In addition, it also gets a 5MP front facing camera.

    Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge side

On the memory front, the Galaxy S6 will be available in three variant, 32, 64 and 128 GB variants. All based on UFS 2.0 (Universal Flash Storage). And yes, just like the iPhone – the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge will not have micro SD expandability.

Connectivity on the new flagship has been given a slight upgrade, it gets LTE Cat 6 compatibility, while other connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, while globally unlocked variants will work on TDD and FDD  LTE bands so networks should not be a problem for Samsung this time around. It also gets a fingerprint scanner while juicing up the smartphone would be 2550mAh battery.

Coming to its curved counterpart, all specs and features  are the same except it gets a slightly beefier battery unit at 2600mAh along with an Exynos Octa core chipset clocked at 2.5Ghz. Meanwhile, the edge is mostly for aesthetic appeal. At the event the company announced that it took upto 800 Degree to bend the Gorilla Glass 4 display.

Samsung has included quick charging and wireless charging capabilities in the new S6 and the S6 Edge. The company claims that a 10 minute charge will result in 4 hours of usage.

Charging the Galaxy from 0-100 takes the half the time as the iPhone 6

The pricing remains a question (which should be answered shortly), however it is rumored that the Galaxy S6 Edge will cost more than the Note Edge did at launch.

We have pitted them against each other for a closer look at their specifications:

Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy S6 : How Far Has It Come

Last year, Samsung launched the tweaked Galaxy S5 in the February, and today, exactly after a year, the Korean electronics firm has added one more iteration to the S series listing. Samsung today official brought out two of its much-awaited flagships Galaxy S6 and the curvy fellow Galaxy S6 Edge, which look robust and classy at the same time.

The two bad boys pack a punch, and if we talk about the Galaxy S6, then it holds an all-new design language. The phone reminds us of the new iPhone in terms of fixed storage and packs many top-notch specs that were missing in the previous generation S5.

Let’s take a look at the two flagships and how the S6 has advanced over time:

  • This Kickass Headset Comes From HTC and Valve

This Kickass Headset Comes From HTC and Valve

Taiwanese smartphone maker, HTC is known as one of the premier smartphone companies. It was one of the first companies to bring out Windows and Android based devices. It’s known for its unique design elements that make its devices recognizable in the crowded smartphone market. HTC is now taking an aim at a new device segment; virtual reality(VR) headset with the new HTC Vive.

HTC has unveiled the Vive at a special event held in Barcelona, Spain. The device is made in collaboration with an entertainment software technology company called Valve. Valve will offer its Steam VR tracking and input technologies whereas HTC is responsible for the design as well as the build of the product.

HTC Vive will take on the likes of Oculus Rift, Gear VR and Project Morpheus.
HTC Vive will take on the likes of Oculus Rift, Gear VR and Project Morpheus.

HTC Vive is claimed to offer immersive VR experience that includes moving around and interacting with the virtual space. The device comes with wireless controllers that make it rather easy to operate and get on with the virtual gaming. It offers high-quality graphics, 90 frames per second video and impressive audio fidelity.

HTC has collaborated with many game developers such as Vertigo Games, Wemo Labs, Google, Owlchemy and others to generate content for the HTC Vive. Beta versions of the games for the Vive Developer Edition have already been produced. HTC is also working with companies like Google, HBO, Lionsgate and the National Palace Museum in Taiwan to create unique content for the new VR device.

In its present iteration, the HTC Vive looks like the first generation Oculus device. It looks massive and messy with the cables hanging on top of it. Being the Developer edition, it still has a look of a prototype device. HTC might tweak the design to make it wireless by the time it arrives in the consumer market.

The Developer Edition of the HTC Vive will be launched this spring. The consumer edition is expected to come out by the end of 2015. Virtual Reality headsets are one of the most promising consumer devices and have tremendous potential. HTC’s entry into the VR foray definitely makes things interesting for the market.

  • Exclusive Hands On : HTC One M9

Exclusive Hands On : HTC One M9

HTC’s latest flagship has arrived and it might just live up to expectations. HTC has made a more mature incremental upgrade to an already promising product. The new HTC One M9 highlights everything that was good about the M8 and M7 and fixes what was horribly bad about them.

    HTC ONE M9 iGyaan 21

Big major fixes include a bumped up camera, a 20 MP shooter with a sapphire lens cover. The camera now not only looks good, but also shoots 4k video. However we are majorly missing the OIS found in the Korean rival’s handset.

    HTC ONE M9 iGyaan 20

Last year’s main camera the Ultrapixel snapped, is now the front facing camera, improving low light selfies and it looks really good. The camera adds a lot of details and  pictures are actually very visible in low light. HTC claims that the camera sees more light than the human eye, our tests confirm that.

    HTC ONE M9 iGyaan 27

The M9 is powered by an all new Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, a 64 bit SOC, with an Octa core 2.0 GHz CPU and Adreno 430 GPU. 3GB of RAM and 32 GB storage makes the memory part complete, but, you do get a 128 GB card support and 115 GB of Google Drive.

    HTC ONE M9 iGyaan 6

The two tone color of the Silver One M9 looks fantastic and will be an instant hit, with anyone who appreciates quality handsets. However the new Samsung Galaxy S6 looks too fancy to ignore. HTC has found inspiration from luxury watches, and the minute  we look at the M9 we see Hublot.

    HTC ONE M9 iGyaan 3

    HTC ONE M9 iGyaan 2

Everything runs on a highly optimized 2800 mAh battery, bundled with Android Lollipop 5.0.2 out of the box and HTC’s new Sense 7 promises a major improvement in the battery life, and out of experience there is a big difference. The quick charge also improves the charge times and you will be on the go in just a few.

HTC has included a new flurry of covers, none of which come with the device. The new rugged cover will make the device IP 67 and it honestly feels great on the phone and does not add much bulk. The DOT case has been improved quite a lot, adding more functionality. Including Dot-breaker (a cool game) and custom wallpapers that you can sketch, see below.

The government also stressed on green renewable energy and has set a target of 1,75,000 MW from green sources by 2022. Out of this, a massive share of 1,00,000 MW will be derived from solar power from the current 3,000 MW. At present renewable energy sources contribute 5.6 percent of all the electricity, which will be raised to 12 percent in the coming three years. The boost in investment in renewable sector will also lead to a lot of jobs in the green energy space in India.

Android YouTube App Now Lets You Easily Trim Your Videos Before Uploading

Uploading videos on YouTube have always been super easy. Just make a selection, and the video-sharing service will do the rest. However, now you can even choose which part of the video you wish to crop and how much your subscribers can see. YouTube recently added a new feature for Android phones that allows you to trim videos before uploading them.

From now on, before you upload a new video to your channel, a timeline will appear at the bottom of the video. It will come with two control points that can be moved to fix the starting point and end point of any clip. Not only this, but also YouTube has given users the freedom of precision. One can crop the clip frame by frame and can exhibit exactly what they want.

Once the video is trimmed, the YouTube app offers a preview option where you can see the content before making it live. This is a pretty appreciable and long awaited feature, which has now landed on the Android platform. The company has started rolling out the same, but it may take some time for the feature to reach all the users across the globe. As earlier said, it has arrived for Android ecosystem only; iOS users can expect to receive it soon after.

The company recently launched YouTube Kids app where children can watch the entertainment as well as educational content for free. Along with that, Offline viewing service was also initiated a few weeks back that permits viewers to watch their favourite chips within 48 hours timeframe once they have downloaded it.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that YouTube has further plans to introduce Instagram-styled filters and licensed music to replace audio. The company is working on embedding it onto the app.

  • Researchers Discover 5G Zone That is 65,000 Times Faster Than Present 4G

Researchers Discover 5G Zone That is 65,000 Times Faster Than Present 4G

The last discovered 4G internet is still to reach the far-flung areas of the globe and researchers have already found a new 5G zone. According to a report by PTI, researchers at the University of Surrey have successfully tested the 5G data connection that gives a record-breaking speed of 1Tbps (1 terabit per second).

The research was conducted in the university’s 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC), where they managed to reach a speed that is thousand times faster than the present data connection. It is 65,000 times faster than the average 4G speed that we presently fetch. Theoretically, at 1 Tbps, users will be able to download GBs of data in a matter of seconds. In simple words, 100 movies in just three seconds; though for that you’ll need to know the 100 movies you wish to download.

Rahim Tafazolli, the Director Professor of 5GIC, remarked about the technology –

We have developed 10 more breakthrough technologies and one of them means we can exceed 1Tbps wirelessly. This is the same capacity as fibreoptics but we are doing it wirelessly.

The first dig into the 5G segment was done by Samsung, who set the remarkable record of 7.5Gbps. The UK research team took an extensive leap and set a new record of 1Tbps, 1% greater than Samsung’s 5G speed.

The development is most welcome, and we hope that it will give the same rate as it intends to. It is still in testing mode, and the technology is expected to be made public by 2018.
