Latest OnePlus 7 Pro Renders Show Off Almond Colour Variant
The highly anticipated OnePlus 7 lineup is all set to debut on May 14 2019. Amidst leaks and rumours, the devices have been speculated to have flagship-level specifications at competitive price points. On May 3 2019, two colour variants of the OnePlus 7 Pro were leaked, which were Mirror Grey and Nebula Blue. Allegedly, the smartphone was rumoured to have one more colour variant, known as Almond. In latest news, the aforementioned colour variant has been leaked in all its glory.

OnePlus 7 Pro: Specifications, Features & Availability

The Almond-coloured OnePlus 7 Pro resembles a “gold” shade and features similarly coloured accents on the edges of the smartphone. It will sport an all glass design on the front and back. Former leaks suggest that the smartphone will have a 6.7-inch Optic AMOLED display with 3120 x 1440 px resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Eliminating the “notch”, the smartphone will use a pop-up camera mechanism to house the selfie camera. For security detail, it will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner along with face unlock technology.

Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Clears Mandatory BIS Certification, Launch In India Imminent
Xiaomi launched the Black Shark 2 gaming smartphone at an event in China on the 18th of March. The device succeeds the Black Shark Helo launched last year as the top end handset from the company made for mobile gaming. Now, fresh leaks claim it is launching the device in the Indian market soon. The smartphone has passed the mandatory BIS certification in the country which suggests it may be announced later this month.

About the BIS Certification

The Bureau of India Standards (BIS) has certified the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 with the model number SKW-HO. BIS is a national standard body of India which is responsible for providing certification to certain products. It is often seen as a means for providing a third-party guarantee of quality and reliability of the products. While the BIS certification is voluntary in nature, the government of India has made it mandatory for certain products citing public health hazards.

The Xiaomi Black Shark 2, like its predecessors, has an unconventional design language with a distinctive pattern on the rear and a large screen display on the front. It measures 163.61 x 75.01 x 8.77 mm from all sides and weighs in at a hefty 205 grams. It sports a 6.39 inch AMOLED display which is surrounded by minimal bezels on all sides. The smartphone’s display has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 px and a pixel density of 403 ppi. The display panel can reach brightness levels of up to 430 nits and has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Noteworthy, the AMOLED display also supports pressure sensitive controls which means the amount of pressure applied to the screen while playing games would affect the on-screen controls. Under the hood, the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 is kitted with the Snapdragon 855 SoC which is comprised of an Octa-Core CPU and the Adreno 640 GPU. In terms of optics, the smartphone has a dual rear camera setup which consists of a 48 MP sensor combined with a 12 MP sensor and an LED Flash which can capture 2160p videos at 30 fps. However, this mode will be called ‘Black and Grey’ and the control for toggling the mode will reside in the control center. Other notable changes are expected to be as follows:
- Updated Health App- With the upcoming iOS 13, the Health app will get a new screen that displays the daily health of the user. In addition, the application will also track new metrics including the loudness of the music the users listens and bring extensive support for menstrual cycling tracking.
- Updated Reminders App- A simple addition yet an important one. The updated app will be redesigned to add a grid layout with sections which will reflect tasks for the day, flagged tasks and scheduled tasks.
- iMessage Update- Even though Whatsapp, owned by Facebook is one of the largest internet messaging (IM) platform, the iMessage exclusive to Apple maintains its dominance. With iOS 13 update, the application will allow users to set a profile picture to their account which is unavailable as of now.
Other notable features include sticker versions of Animojis and Memojis, block incoming email from certain contacts in the Mail app, option for frequently visited locations in Maps.

The report also highlights that the company will launch a new sleep mode that will automatically darken the lock screen as the night falls. The clock alarm will get the new option for bedtime alarm which as the name suggests will work as a sleep reminder.

Apple Home app will have better integration with security cameras and allows users to view the past recording. Limited to the iPad, the iOS update may redesign the multitasking screen and multi-window support on the tablet. A senior Xiaomi executive, Donovan Sung has shared a Tweet which boasts of the reliability and build quality of the Redmi Note 7. The Mi team launched a couple of units of the aforementioned smartphone into space which surprisingly made it’s way back to Earth in an unharmed condition. The whole stunt was performed with the help of a helium balloon which was attached to a contraption holding multiple units of the Redmi Note 7.

The Tweet highlights, the smartphones made their way into space with a recorded elevation of 35,000 metres above sea level. Noteworthy, the temperature the Redmi Note 7 units had to encounter at the height was -56 ° C which is far lower than most units would ever be exposed to. American electronics giant Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones and updated variants of the iPad Pro tablets later this year. The latest research note from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he predicts both the smartphones and tablets will make use of new antenna technology. According to Kuo, who has been notably accurate with his leaks in the past, the iPhones and iPads will shift from using the Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) design to the Modified-PI material antennas when they launch later in 2019. The shift to the new antenna technology is expected to make mobile networks indoors more reliable.

LCP vs. MPI Antennas

As mentioned above, Apple will shift the antenna design in its upcoming devices from LCP to MPI material. LCP or Liquid Crystal Polymer design of the antenna is a low cost organic flexible layer that has some unique electrical properties making it suitable for antennae. It also behaves consistently across the entire radio frequency range, has a very low signal loss, making it useful for the application of 5G, the next generation of mobile connectivity. The LCP material is vastly seen in the application in products like Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and mobile phones.

Modified-PI material for antennae, on the other hand, offers the same performance but are significantly more affordable. Interestingly, Apple uses six LCP antennas in its current generation of iPhones, namely the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR. These six antennas will be replaced by two MPI and four LCP antennas in the upcoming iPhones and iPads. However, the analyst claims Apple will make use of the LCP antennas primary in the year 2020. This is because of the advantage of the technology for use in 5G devices, which the company is expected to introduce starting next year. Apple is expected to launch the new iPhones in the month of September later this year, while the iPad Pro is expected to be unveiled at the end of this year or early next year.

Smartwatches, since their introduction has become an important part of people’s lives. The devices function as fitness trackers, show notifications and in some cases, like the Nubia Alpha, also help make calls and click pictures. According to known research organization Counterpoint, the global market for smartwatches has seen steady growth. Since the first quarter of last year, the sales of the wearable product has grown around 48 percent Year on Year (YoY). And the Apple Watch is the most sold smartwatch in the time period.

Results Of The Research

In a result published on its website on the 2nd of May, Counterpoint claims the smartwatch industry has grown by 48 percent YoY as mentioned above. Apple, whose Apple Watch is a really popular product in the segment, led the pack by clocking in the most sales in the first quarter of 2019. According to the research organization, its demand grew by 49 percent compared to the first quarter last year. It also claims that because of such unprecedented growth, one of every three smartwatches sold in the time period belonged to Apple. In the second place is Samsung, witnessing an exponential growth of 127 percent; which is accredited to the strong sales of its latest Galaxy smartwatches. Also in the list are companies from the likes of Fitbit, Amazfit, Huawei and Fossil. All these brands are a known name in the smartwatch market.

The growth of the Apple Watch in the ever-increasing market of smartwatches is not surprising according to Counterpoint. According to it, the ECG and the fall detection feature on the current generation Apple Watch Series 4 are the most desirable worldwide. The device has been claimed to have saved numerous lives due to the aforementioned features. While these functionalities are available in a limited number of countries worldwide as of now; Apple is also said to be bringing the ECG feature to 20 more countries after seeking necessary approvals for the same.

An Unknown HTC Mid Range Smartphone Spotted On Geekbench

Taiwanese company HTC is best known for its smartphones. However, due to intense competition in the space, sales for HTC have fallen significantly. It has been long speculated that the company may exit the smartphone business altogether. However, last month a mid-range HTC handset surfaced on performance benchmarking platforms Geekbench and Antutu which suggests otherwise. In a fresh leak, another smartphone from the company has been leaked on Geekbench revealing its specifications.

The unreleased HTC smartphone has been listed as the model number “HTC 2Q741” on the benchmarking website Geekbench. The specifications of the unreleased smartphone suggest it will be a mid-range device which will compete with the likes of the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy A50. According to the listing, it features the “ARM MT6765V/WA” SoC which is the code name of the MediaTek Helio P35 mobile processor. The chipset is comprised of an Octa-Core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and the IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. Notably, the base clock speed of the SoC is measured at 2.3 GHz in the listing.

The Geekbench listing reveals the mysterious smartphone from HTC will have 6GB of RAM which might be paired with 128GB of internal storage. On the benchmarking platform, the device attains a single core score of 897 and a multi-core score of 4385. Unfortunately, the listing does not uncover more details about the handset. However, reports are rife it will be a region-specific variant of the HTC 2Q7A100, which as mentioned above, was leaked last month.

Unfortunately, HTC has not confirmed the authenticity of the leak, therefore, the price and the launch date of the upcoming smartphone by the company is anyone’s guess. But, the specifications of the device insinuate it will be a sub Rs. 20,000 handset when and if launched in India.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro Specs Leaked Showcasing Kirin 985 SoC And Quad-Lens Setup

After Huawei’s P30 Pro received rave reviews worldwide for its optical system, the Chinese company is all set to release its next flagship smartphone in the market. Succeeding the Mate 20 Pro, the Mate 30 Pro will probably be unveiled in the month of October, 2019. As per recent reports, foreign media has exposed some major specifications of the upcoming flagship device.

Industry sources reveal that the Mate 30 Pro will feature a large BOE-manufactured 6.71 inch display with a 4-curve design. The fingerprint scanner will be embedded inside the display, similar to the Mate 20 Pro. Not divulging any more details regarding the screen, reports claim that the Mate 30 Pro will run on the 7nm Kirin 985 chipset, which includes the Baron 500 chip, indicating that the Mate 30 Pro will have a 5G variant as well.

In terms of optics, reports state that the upcoming flagship will have a quad-lens design on the rear panel, which will interestingly resemble the Mate 20 Pro’s triple camera setup. The in-depth details of the camera sensors is unknown, but the module will be equipped with a ToF sensor. Instead of the persicope camera lens (featured in the P30 Pro), the Mate 30 Pro will feature a rectangular-design camera setup, as per sources. Furthermore, the LED flash will be placed at the centre of the module. The details of the selfie camera, unfortunately, are unknown as of now.

The battery capacity will be similar to the Mate 20 Pro i.e. 4,200 mAh, but the Mate 30 Pro is expected to feature 55W Super Fast Charging from Huawei. Additionally, reports also claim that the device will retain the reverse wireless charging feature, but the power output will be bumped to 10W from the previous 5W charging. More features may be revealed in the course of time, but as of now, the company has not confirmed such a device yet, so the exact launch date and price is unknown.

Realme devices are highly popular in the budget smartphone segment in India. The company’s latest release, the Realme 3 Pro received rave reviews for offering competitive specifications at a budget aggressive price. The Chinese company is yet to release a flagship smartphone in India, but it seems that it is gearing up for the same. As previously reported, an unknown Realme handset was spotted on TENAA, which showcased the specifications and features of the device. The smartphone, named as the Realme X was recently spotted in a YouTube video, which affirmed the dual rear camera setup of the device.

Realme X: Expected Design, Specifications & Features

The design of the smartphone falls in line with the previously leaked images for the same. As per past leaks, the upcoming device will feature a 6.5 inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution. The absence of a notch suggests that the Realme X will sport a pop-up camera mechanism for the front camera. The back panel of the device will be expectedly made out of a polycarbonate material, and will have a gradient colour pattern. As per reports, it will measure 161.2 x 76 x 9.4 mm.

Under the hood, the upcoming flagship is expected to run on the 7nm based Snapdragon 855 chipset. The SoC is one of the most powerful chipsets in the market right now, comprising of a Kryo 485 octa-core CPU and the Adreno 640 GPU. Previous reports claim that the Realme X will boast of vertically placed dual rear cameras. As of now, specifications of the same are unknown as an official statement from the company is awaited. The pop-up camera mechanism discussed above will house the selfie camera.

A 3,680 mAh battery will power the handset, and most likely, it will have support for 50W VOOC fast charging. In terms of OS, the Realme X will run on the company’s latest iteration of ColorOS on top of Android 9 Pie. As mentioned before, the Chinese manufacturer has not released any concrete information regarding such a device, but previous listings suggest that the device may make its debut soon.
