Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design Has Two Fingerprint Sensors And Three Cameras

Along with the P20 and the P20 Pro, Huawei has launched the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design in Paris. This is the third generation Porsche design device from the company. The smartphone has a premium design with flagship class specifications. Unlike the other two devices, the Porsche Design variant will only be available in China. The base model with 6GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at 1600 Euros.

Like the P20 Pro, the Mate RS is IP67 certified for water and dust resistance. The device uses aerospace cooling technology, which keeps the phone cool all the time. Additionally, the smartphone also has an in-screen fingerprint sensor embedded in the display and a conventional rear-facing fingerprint sensor. The dual SLS speakers are certified by Dolby Atmos. The Huawei Mate RS Porsche is also the first Huawei smartphone to support wireless charging along with Huawei Supercharge capability.

    Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design

The Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design has a 6 inch OLED curved display with a 2880 x 1440 px resolution. Under the hood, the device is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core chipset with 6GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB of onboard storage.

The device will run on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The caveat here is that EMUI 8 will be on top of Android Oreo, which means no stock Android OS experience. Then again, Huawei has never launched stock OS smartphones.

The Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design has a 40MP primary sensor, which supports 5x hybrid zoom. There is a secondary 8MP sensor, which offers 3x optical zoom, which also helps to create portrait mode. Similarly, there is a third sensor with 20MP resolution. Unlike the other two sensors, this is a monochrome sensor which helps to capture contrast and sharpness. Another mindboggling feature of this camera setup is a maximum ISO of 102,400.

On the front of the smartphone is a 24MP sensor. Apart from the selfies, this camera will also be responsible for Face Unlock, a feature that has become increasingly common with Android devices. The front-facing camera also has a new 3D Portrait Lighting feature, which sounds very similar to Apple iPhone X’s Portrait Lighting effect.

Huawei P20 Officially Launched At 649 Euros

Huawei has officially launched its flagship smartphone, the Huawei P20 in France. Along with this phone, the company has also launched the Huawei P20 Pro with a triple camera setup. The smartphone is priced at 649 Euros and will be available from April 2018.

The Huawei P20 has a modern design with a glass back, glass front, and a metal frame. The smartphone will be available in Twilight, Midnight Blue, Graphite Black and Pink Gold colour variants. Similar to the P20 Pro and P20 Lite, the Huawei P20 has an almost bezel-less design with a notch on the top. Additionally, the smartphone has a front-facing Edgeless fingerprint scanner, which can also be used as a single navigation button. The device has an IP53 rating for water and dust resistance.

    Huawei P20

The device has a 5.84 inch FHD+ 2244 x 1080 px LTPS IPS LCD display with 423 ppi.

Under the hood, the device has a HiSilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core chipset with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Additionally, the storage is expandable using a micro SD card (up to 256GB).

The phone has an AI-powered dual Leica camera setup, with a 12MP wide angle lens and a 20MP secondary sensor with an f/1.6 aperture on both the lenses. The device has 1.55 microns pixel size, which is bigger than the 1.4-micron pixel lens found on the Galaxy S9.

The phone has a 24MP front-facing camera with 3D facial enhancement, to improve the selfie-taking experience. The device also has a 3D facial lighting similar to the iPhone X. The smartphone scores 107 in photos and 94 points in videos DxOMark benchmark, which is highest to date.

The device can record 4k videos at 30fps. Additionally, the smartphone also supports super slow motion 960fps video recording. The mobile uses both EIS and OIS to offer steady photos and videos. The Huawei P20 runs on Android 8 Oreo with custom EMUI skin, fueled by a 3400 mAh Li-ion battery with fast charging.

  • Huawei P20 Pro Officially Launched At 899 Euros

Huawei P20 Pro Officially Launched At 899 Euros

After months of constant leaks, Huawei has launched its flagship device for early-2018, the Huawei P20 Pro. Up until a few weeks ago, there doubts over what moniker this phone will carry, many believing that the P10 successor will be the P11. However, at the Paris event, all the doubts have been put to rest. The Huawei P20 Pro will start retailing at a price of 900 Euros. There is no word on the pricing and availability of the smartphone in India, as of now.

Two of the most striking features of the Huawei P20 Pro lay on the front and back. The front of the smartphone houses a very iPhone X-esque notch which houses the earpiece, sensors and a front camera. That being said, the device also has a front-facing fingerprint sensor. Unlike the P20 Pro, the iPhone X has nearly zero bezels on the other three sides of the device. The fingerprint sensor also doubles up as a single navigation button if you don’t like on-screen navigation buttons.

The iPhone X reminiscence doesn’t end there, as the P20 Pro has a vertically place camera setup, much like the iPhone X. However, where it differentiates is the hardware and implementation of the camera setup. It is the first ever smartphone with a triple-camera setup on the back.

    The Huawei P20 Pro has a 6.1 inch RGBW full-colour OLED display with a 2244 x 1080 px resolution.

Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset, a 2.2GHz octa-core processor along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Powering the smartphone is a 4000 mAh battery with support for SuperCharge, a proprietary fast charging technology. Interestingly, the Huawei P20 Pro also has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

In an appreciable move, the P20 Pro will run on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The caveat here is that EMUI 8 will be on top of the Android Oreo, which means no stock Android OS experience. Then again, Huawei has never launched stock OS smartphones.

In the optics department is where this smartphone will grab all the headlines. The Huawei P20 Pro has a 40MP primary sensor, which supports 5x hybrid zoom.

  • Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s Officially Launched

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s Officially Launched

Xiaomi has launched its most anticipated smartphone of the year, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s in China. The smartphone’s price starts at 3299 Yuan (Rs 32,999) and has flagship hardware with premium build quality. There are no drastic changes in design. However, incorporation of the iPhone X-style dual camera setup does give this smartphone a unique expression.

The company has used ceramic to offer mirror-like finish with added protection from 7000 series aluminium frame. Unlike most of the Android smartphone markers, the Mi MIX 2s doesn’t have a notch, instead, it has a prominent bezel at the bottom. To make it more premium, the company has used 18K gold around the camera and fingerprint sensor. The device will be available in Ceramic White and Black colour.

    [section label=”Specifications”]

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s has a 5.99 inch IPS LCD display with a 2160 x 1080 px full screen 2.0 display with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Under the hood, the device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core processor with 2.8 GHz CPU and Adreno 630 GPU. This chipset is paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM along with 64GB/128GB/256GB storage. Just like the previous MIX smartphones, the Mi MIX 2s doesn’t have expandable storage.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX and the Mi MIX 2 were highly criticised for their camera capabilities. And now, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s might resolve this issue using dual primary camera setup. The smartphone has a 12MP wide angle and a 12MP telephoto lens, similar to the Apple iPhone 8. This camera setup can offer 2x optical zoom and portrait mode, which blurs the background by focusing on the subject. The primary camera is a Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4-micron pixel. Additionally, the camera also supports dual-pixel autofocus, which helps the smartphone to focus on a subject in low light environments. The smartphone can also record 4K videos.

The camera features do not end there. Xiaomi claims that it uses AI to improve background blurring to create perfect portrait photographs. The company also uses AI for scene detection, to improve the colour and clarity of the photo, depending on the subject in focus. The 5MP front-facing camera can also capture bokeh shots using a single camera. The phone also has an instant translation with instant currency conversion straight from the camera app. Based on the DXO Mark rating, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s scores 101 points in Photos, which is same as the Apple iPhone X.

Similar to Samsung and Apple, the company is also launching its own voice assistant. Which eases out the day to day tasks. The smartphone also has an NFC chip, which supports cashless payments (limited to China). The smartphone also supports Qi standard wireless charging with 7.5-watt output, which is faster than the iPhone X.

There is no word on the device’s availability outside in India. However, considering the Mi MIX 2 was launched in India, its successor will also hit the Indian shores soon.

  • Five Netflix Originals To Binge Watch

Five Netflix Originals To Binge Watch

Weekend plans, for a lot of people, revolve around what’s new on Netflix. Right from Sci-Fi to Standup Comedy, the video streaming service has some of the best content available. So, we have listed the top 5 Netflix Originals you need to binge-watch this week.

    Ricky Gervais: Humanity

    Cast: Ricky Gervais

    Duration: 1 hour 18 minutes

If you love standup comedy and don’t get offended very easily, then the new Ricky Gervais Netflix special is a treat to watch. The 1 hour 18 minutes long standup special takes a dig at everyone from the society to some famed celebrities. While some people had doubts because of the effect of a seven-year hiatus, Gervais, in his typical snarky style, addresses that, too.

The last few minutes see Gervais narrate a personal story with a brilliant ending. A fan of Brit humour or not, this special from Ricky Gervais is something special!

    Jessica Jones

Cast: Krysten Ritter, Rachael Taylor, Janet McTeer, Eka Darville

    No. Of Episodes: 13

Marvel has been killing it in the cinema business. Marvel and Netflix have struck up a great partnership as well in the TV sphere. What started with Daredevil and crumbled a bit with The Defenders, Jessica Jones season 2 revives it. The second season follows the dark and sarcastic Jessica Jones in the aftermath of Killgrave’s death. All this while, she also deals with now being a superhero, constantly defying the fact that she isn’t one.

The rise in popularity of ‘special people’ plays an important part in the narrative as well. Patsy Walker, this season, has a great character arc which takes an unexpected turn during the fag end of the season. With 13 episodes, this season is the perfect binge-watching material this weekend!

    Altered Carbon

Cast: Joel Kinnaman, Martha Higareda, Dichen Lachman, James Purefoy

    No. Of Episodes: 10

A TV series that so far, has divided many opinions. Altered Carbon is a cyberpunk TV series that isn’t for everyone. While the show looks extremely beautiful and the dystopian world is almost believable, the show has a few shortcomings. The series, at its core, is a murder investigation with AI, replaceable human sleeves and some over-the-top characters.

However, beyond the spectacular, the human emotions and especially the connection between key characters are lost. That being said, Altered Carbon is worth a shot thanks to its visuals and the representation of a mindboggling dystopian world.

    The Confession Tapes

    No. Of Episodes: 7

Although an old show, The Confession Tapes is a chilling docuseries about people coerced into confessing a crime. The series breaks down six cases in the US where specially trained police officers allegedly influenced innocent people into confessing crimes they did not commit.

From a mother believing she killed her daughter to a man committing to having drowned his own kids, the series sheds light on the gruesome process of interrogation in the US. While there are a couple of episodes that show the stone cold coercion in confession, a few episodes really leave you questioning the suspect and whether they actually committed the crime or were fed some lies.

    The Punisher

Cast: Jon Bernthal, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ben Barnes, Amber Rose Revah

    No. Of Episodes: 13

The second season of Daredevil showed us to what extent Wilson Fisk will go to attain his goal. But, it also showed us a glimpse of a very unusual bromance between Daredevil and the Punisher. The character of Frank Castle/Punisher was well-received in Daredevil Season 2 which pushed Netflix into giving the character its own standalone series.

Jon Bernthal plays The Punisher and completely owns it. A few minutes into the series and you can’t imagine someone else playing this manic character. The series falters in the middle and unlike Jessica Jones, the flashback episode barely solves its purpose. However, the last three episodes are worth the drop in the middle.

  • Samsung Could Soon Introduce Over The Air Wireless Charging

Samsung Could Soon Introduce Over The Air Wireless Charging

Samsung is known to introduce new features on its Galaxy Note lineup. The company introduced Iris scanner on the Galaxy Note 7 and the Note 8 was the first Samsung smartphone to have dual primary camera setup. Similarly, the company might incorporate Over the Air (OTA) wireless charging on the Galaxy Note 9.

    Over The Air Wireless Charging

The company had registered a patent in 2016, which explains this technology. The OTA wireless charging works differently from the present generation wireless charging. In the conventional form of wireless charging, the charging pad surface has to touch the back of the smartphone to transfer charge. However, the devices with OTA wireless charging support starts to charge, as soon as one enters into the perimeter. This means the device can charge being inside your trouser pocket.

    OTA wireless charging

The device with this technology will use an algorithm that focuses energy on a device, inside the OTA charging enabled room. The technology will be capable of charging the device, even if the object is moving. Additionally, this technology uses reflectors to send the power signal, which can bypass certain barriers.

This will be a breakthrough technology, which can change the way that we use and charge our smartphones. The transition from a wired-charging to OTA-wireless charging will be similar to the transition from landline to wireless phones. However, the technology is still in its nascent stage and might take at 3-4 years to come to fruition.

  • Nokia 1

    Nokia 1

Nokia 1 has been officially launched in India for Rs 5499. The smartphone has been optimised to get most out of its hardware using Android Oreo Go OS. The device has a 4.5 inch IPS LCD display, powered by the MediaTek MT6737 Quad-core chipset with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage. The phone has a 5MP primary camera and a 2MP front-facing camera with 480p video recording capability.
